When does the value season start? I just got a quote from DU for over $300 a night... yikes! Any ideas how I can stay at BC for a LOT less money?

Well, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that Jan. 4 IS Value season. :( However, the good news is that the rate you were given is the rack rate because there are no discounts available for that time period yet. There may be discounts offered for that time period that will significantly reduce the rates. :D We stayed at BC during Value season last year and received a rate of $189 for a water view room.

That was what I was hoping for... last year we went at the end of November and paid $169 for a standard view... would love to come close to that price this time!

What do you suggest? Book it and hope for the best?

You could do that. I usually just book for different dates when there are discounted rates available. Then when discounts are announced, I change to the dates I really wanted. For instance, I am currently booked for Sept 25-29 but I really want to go during the Columbus Day weekend. If discounts are announced on Monday (please!!) then I will cancel the Sept ressies and book the Oct.
