View Full Version : Most on DP, one OOP-question

Here is my situation, my stepson told us he didn't want to go to Disney with us this year and now a few weeks away, he has changed his mind. We already have our documents and so rather than add him to our plan (we would incur penalties) we are going to pay oop for his tix and food. Here is the question, our 10 yr old is considered an adult, but he will be ordering off the child's menu anyway because he does not like most of the adult offerings. I was wondering if we could use the adult credit for our stepson and pay oop for the child's meal? Also will it be a problem ordering a separate meal at TS? We are a party of 9 so we will already be paying 18%.
TIA

Technically your stepson is not on the reservation, but if you order the child's meal and the adult meal and switch meals between your stepson and your son it will work. You'll still be paying OOP for the child meal and you are not ordering an extra meal past what your credits entitle you to.

I could b wrong here but my guess would be that if you order 8 adult meals and one child's meal and then you have them charge your DDP credits for 8 adult meals you would automatically be paying OOP for the one child's meal. Make sure you are really clear, and check your reciepts so they do not charge you 9 credits off your DDP early in the trip and then youwill run out of credits! Also - I am not sure if they will let a ten year old order off the kids menu but I would hope so!

If you have no children in your party, any child meal you order will be paid OOP unless you specify that the child meal should be paid for with an adult credit. All you do is order the child meal and order what your stepson wants, then give him the adult meal and your son the child meal. Don't try to order an extra adult meal beyond the number of people you have listed on your reservation - that will not be accepted.
This won't work at buffets though. Your only stumbling block is if the restaurant tells you a 10 year old cannot order from the child's menu, but we don't see that here much.

Not that you asked, but if your stepson is staying with you and not officially on the reservation, you do realize that he won't be eligible to go to the parks using extra magic hours or use Magical Express as he won't be recognized as an onsite disney guest.

Yes, we don't do EMH or use Disney transportation so we should be fine. Thanks for the info though.
Our actual party break down is 7 adults, 1 child (we have a 5 yr old). My stepson will make 8 adults, 1 child. I think we'll be fine as they usually only take up one card for each room so as long as I am clear on what I am doing they should be okay. I noticed in another post that you can only use the max. credits you have per room(s) per meal. So I am guessing thst since we eat together at every meal, there is really no way for them to go over. Right? So the second child's meal would have to be oop?

I am glad. I always hate to hear about someone getting to WDW and finding out something that they didn't know that sends a glitch into plans.
If your plan lists 7 adults, and 1 child, then that is the maximum number of credits that they will allow you to use at one TS meal.
In your case, you would use all of them and then pay OOP for the 2nd child's meal.
Have a great trip!

Usually if you add someone to the package they will not charge any penalty. Only when you try to remove them is there a penalty. I would call and see how much trouble it would be to add him and then go from there. I think it will give you much less headache in the end. JMHO. hope that helps

Did you call and ask about adding him? It is very likely that you will not be charged a penalty because you are ADDING to you package. How old is your stepson and where is he staying? If he is over 18 there will be an additional room charge.

Glad to hear this is acceptable. For our reservation after our cruise, it is MIL, DD10, DS3 and myself. DH will be joining us for dinner the first night but then has to leave. DD10 will most likely want to order off the kid's menu. I had hoped that DH would be able to use her adult credit and us just pay OOP for her kid's meal. Sounds like it won't be an issue.
