Any Freeport/Nassau beaches you can go to w/out an excursion?

Hi~~again:D . got a quick question. We are taking the 4 day cruise and we really don't think we want to do an excursion at Nassau or Freeport but just want to go to the beach and have some fun. For those of you who have been to Nassau or Freeport, is this possible to do without taking an excursion and say maybe going back to the ship for lunch? If so, I would appreciate any and all suggestions as I have begun making our "list" of to-do's. Thanks so much!!!

Cable Beach and Paradise Island have great beaches. You should be able to easily catch a taxi to these beaches and do them on your own at your own pace. I think Dave may have info at his site about beaches in Nassau at www.dcltribute.com (it could also have info about Freeport too but I can't recall seeing that off hand).
