All our dreams can come true... if we have the courage to pursue them...

That's what this PTR WAS called when I started it. Now it's just the neverending PTR. I'll finish it when we actually GET back to WDW! *stomps feet defiantly*

Hello all! *big wave* (where's that darn waving smiley?)

My name is Karen, I'm a little sappy, a little snarky, and a LOT OCD. Here I am!

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW20091764a.jpg

That's my husband (Rey) and I at Boardwalk a few weeks ago celebrating our 18th Anniversary! Yes, yes, I know I don't look NEARLY old enough to be celebrating 18 years...RIGHT?!?!?!? :rolleyes1

A little background: We just got back from our first family vacation to WDW in October 2009. We went with my husband's family and stayed offsite, there were 8 of us. I'm actually starting this pretrip report b/c one of my faithful trip report readers suggested it! Here is my report if you would like to read it, it will help you decide if you even want to read more of me for 10 more months!

I'll start by saying that I'm starting a Pretrip for a trip that may never happen. I'm hopeful, I'm dreaming, I'm planning, and I'm going to save until I can't save anymore...and what comes of it we won't know until September 2010! Did you know that's about 10 1/2 months from now? Doesn't sound very long when you start crunching dollar signs!!! Money will be our biggest obstacle, we don't have a lot and it's going to take a lot of saving to make this happen!

Sheesh, I had a whole new post typed up and firefox crashed. :sad2:

Let's see, I guess I better find out how these pretrip reports work or I'll tell you all my plans in the first post! I'm guessing I have to drag it out so you want more, huh?

If you have read my trip report you will know I'm not capable of such a thing, so no worries! ;)

The planning started before I even made it home. We homeschool and have a wonderful group of families that we have a co-op with and weekly playgroups. When I got back and showed them the pictures it took about 5 minutes before they were onboard for a homeschool trip in Jan. 2011. After crunching numbers I realized that Sept. 2010 would save us a LOT of money, so that is what we are planning for.

Free dining is a must if we are to do this right. Rey & the boys love to eat, Savannah is a picky vegetarian, and I'm a vegan (vegetarian on a bad day). This means we spent a TON of money on food this past trip and we were blessed to have MIL paying for it. This time it's on us baybee and when I crunch the numbers, the dining plan will save us...FREE dining will save us even more. :thumbsup2

We will have to get a 1 day ticket for all of us to do Free dining (IF they offer it) but we will also be able to get the rest of our tickets through homeschool days. They only have them in Sept. and Jan, so this is another reason for September!

Ok, it seems SO strange not to be posting pictures? Don't you find it boring? If you read my trip report, you know I'm a VERY amateur photographer who is slowly learning and I LOVE taking photographs. LOVE it. I may just have to start adding random pictures in this pretrip report to make it fun! :p

Here's one of my cats.

Hmmmm, I want to do introductions on this report too, it will be hard to not use the same pictures from the trip, but I'll resist!

THE CAST:

Yours Truly! Karen-36 (OMG, I'll be 37 on the trip! eek!)~
A little about me: I'm a homeschooling mom who lives in rural Missouri. I've learned to love it out here, but it's been hard. I'm a city girl at heart, I think, and although I am largely a treehugger, I also love my comfort and when you can't find a Starbucks for 43 miles, there's no comfort in that! Let's see, what else about me?
I can knit, but only do it in the winter, I love to garden, read, do yoga when I'm not being lazy, I'm vegan or raw vegan most of the time, but there are always days off (ahem...like ever since the trip!) :rolleyes1 I'm a petsitter as well, I go to people's homes and make visits each day to care for their pets while they are out of town. It's not full time, but it helps! You already know I'm OCD, I like to ramble, and I take lots and lots of pictures...
(you don't REALLY need another picture of me, do you?) Grumble...

Rey-my soulmate!:
Rey & I just celebrated our 18th...ok, I already said that, right? You'll soon learn, just as he has in the past 18 years, that I repeat myself. My memory is horrendous, so if I repeat myself, just do what he does and say "uh-huh"...I'll never know! :p Rey is a truck driver. He's been an over the road truck driver for 14 years now! He just bought his own truck this past spring and although rewarding, it's a financial strain.

Rey is devoted, he's devoted to caring for his family. Sometimes this gets in the way of caring for us emotionally though b/c he forgets that financial isn't everything. I had to sick his mother on him and practically beg to get him to go on this last trip, he didn't think he could afford to take off work. He had NEVER taken off more than a week and never taken a real vacation before this.

Unfortunately, things ARE very tight now that we are home and he's saying things like "I shouldn't have taken a vacation", so I will have to make sure we have enough set aside for this trip that he feels comfortable taking any time off. Until then he'll work himself into the ground. He just got shut down again tonight (no ticket thank goodness!) for having driven too many hours again. I love him, but he never thinks of himself!

I'm sorry, rambling there! Get used to it. ;)

He's not all work though, he's the funniest person I've ever met, if you think I'm snarky or sarcastic just multiply it by 10 and you get Rey. He's a wonderful father and we have a wonderful, fun-filled time together no matter what we are doing. We are almost always just spending time together at home when he's here. He doesn't want to go anywhere when he finally gets out of that truck!
Ok, I've got to use a pic from the trip b/c I rarely get a smile like this JUST for the camera, but I got one for Piglet! ;)

I better post this before I lose it!

THE CAST (continued!)

Dylan, my oldest son-15 (16 on the trip!)~
My first born, enforcer of all rules (to all but himself!!) and very snarky like his father. He plays the drums, loves talking to his friends (who are ALL girls) online, and giving his siblings trouble! He LOVED Ohana and says we MUST go back, dislikes any rides with ANY kind of drop or gforce, but still immediately said he would like to go back to WDW when asked! :thumbsup2

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/newcamera001bw.jpg

Eli, my stepdaughter-14 (15 on the trip!)~
Eli is a new addition to our trip that hasn't been introduced! It's a long and personal story that I can't really delve into here, but she is a part of our lives that we wouldn't trade for anything! I hope hope hope that we can find a way to get her out of school for this trip, I looked at her schedule from this year and they had teacher conferences at the end of Sept. so I'm hoping she doesn't have to miss much. I'll be honest, I believe that a family trip with her brothers and sister is ABSOLUTELY more important than a few days of school. We haven't gotten to spend much time with Eli in the recent years and I want so badly for her to come on this trip! She has a huge heart and a wild streak, she fits right in our family! ;)
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/EliAug09165a.jpg

Dallas, my youngest son-14 (15 on the trip!)~
Dallas, my thoughtful, kind, and funny son. He is quiet and likes to watch people but the moment you don't notice, he says something that has you rolling on the floor. He plays guitar, LOVES World of Warcraft, and is my ride junkie. Loves anything fast and furious, couldn't get enough of the rollercoasters at WDW. Someday I'll have to get him to Universal...hmmmm...Harry Potter will be open in Sept, won't it??? Dallas cannot stand having his picture taken but tried to oblige me on our last trip.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/moremay093600bw.jpg

Savannah, my baby girl-9 (and STILL 9 on the trip! WOOT!~
Savannah is my heart, she's loving, kind, with a whole lot of spunk thrown in! So opposite of how I was at her age, she's secure and has a self-esteem I didn't know possible in a child her age. She likes herself and it shows. LOVER of Disney (she hates when I call it walt disney world. LOL) but missing her friends on this last trip. She's very social and is going to be over the top having WDW AND her friends at the same time if the homeschool group goes at the same time. :)
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/summermike202600.jpg

THAT'S US! Did you keep count? SIX. SIX this time, not EIGHT! :p

But, you know what this means...two rooms! I've priced the Family Suite at ASMU, but I'm concerned about bed space with 3 teenagers, I think 2 rooms will work better at a value, hopefully we can get them connecting?!?!?

Life is calling, I'll be back for more!

Raaahhhahahahahahaaa! :lmao: I'm glad you pointed out the pun, I'm slow to catch them! ;) I'm glad you talked me into this, it should be fun...and if it's not, I can blame YOU!

You can blame me if you want, but it looks like you are having fun already! I meant to tell you that your pix were fabulous! I hope you don't mind, but a couple that you posted of the castle during wishes, well I used them as my background for my desktop. They came out way better than the ones I got in July!

We traveled with 7 this last July, my one step son is in the Marines and could not get leave. :sad1: Anyway, I priced getting a suite versus two rooms and clearly 2 rooms was the way to go (at a value) We did later upgrade to a moderate after I saved a little more money for it - but still the best way to go. One bathroom is tough to share!!!

Another thought is to book your trip now:scared1: do they have free dining offered yet for that time frame? Anyway if you book now they will only want a small down payment which is fully refundable for up to 30 days before your trip, and then it is easy  to make payments on line whenever you want - so when you get a few extra bucks put aside (like that is soooo easy - not) just throw is towards your balance and you will be paid off in no time! Just be sure to book off their website - the only way to make payments.

On a side note, last year I had only booked for 5 days. Then like 3 months later they came out with buy 4 get 3. So I called to see if I could tack on the extra and also get the reduced rate for only paying for 4. They said no, so I said no problem, cancel my ressie and I'll make a new one - they happily added the extra time - no problem! And actually adding the extra days, with the passess with hoppers and dining for 5 adults and 2 kids only cost $75 extra! My point is that even if they don't have any specials for that time right now, go ahead and book - keeping checking whats out there and you can always take advantage of it later. Wow that was long! Who's trip report is this anyway!:rolleyes1

Oh please keep posting Gina, makes me feel less alone in here! :goodvibes

I didn't realize you could only make payments when you booked online? How do you make those payments? Do you just go online and give them a debit card number each time you make a payment or something?

I was thinking of making room only ressies and then calling up and adding/changing when and if they release free dining. I don't think they let you make payments on room only ressies either? :confused3 They have been announcing free dining around the beginning of April, not sure how that will work in 2010 with ADRs back to 180 days now (MARCH for SEPT ADRs!).

I can't imagine making ADRs in March!...ok, scratch that! I CAN imagine it, I just can't believe I'll be able to! I already have an idea and I'm starting to figure out least busy days (YES, 10 months out!) Told you I was OCD! :lmao:

OK first of all - MY BAD!! I meant to say book by calling the 800 disney number. I never book online because of my OCD I like to talk to someone and know what I am getting, what the options are etc. etc. I always think I am missing something on line!:scared1: They gave me ressie numbers and sent me confirmation emails and then I logged on to the website and was able to log into my ressie and make payments with a credit card. Sorry for the bad info. It's been a long day! I am not sure if it makes a difference if you book dining plan later or not?:confused3 I did mine all at the same time. Since my last trip we bought into the DVC so now I book completely differently through them - and I did my July trip last October so it's been a year already! Time does fly! We also started a spare change water bottle and even had the kids putting there change into it! I cashed it in before the trip and had around $1200! It adds up quick and the kids had a blast knowing it was for Disney! They actually started throwing their change in on their own! I have another one started for this July - I can't wait to see what we get up to! Remember every little bit helps!

HOLY COW! $1200?!?!?! We did this and got about 120$. Guess I need to work on that!

Ok, thanks for clarifying, I had thought calling was better than doing it on the website, especially if I'm reserving 2 rooms! :)

It has occurred to me this morning after starting to read the myriad of preTR's here at the DIS, that I'm not the only nutcase that starts preTR's a year in advance!

In fact, browsing the preTR area has comforted me quite a bit! I do, however, feel quite inadequate that I don't have a neat theme like the TC3's or pregnancy contingencies like punkin413! ;)

I'll have to work on it. I certainly have time when I wake up at 4am. I have an odd habit of waking unbelievably early, I'm never quite sure if it's a physical thing (insomnia) or the fact that this is the ONLY time I get in a quiet, dark house with no one bothering me. :p

This morning I'm contemplating how to save. save, save, save! I admit, I'm no good at it. We live paycheck to paycheck most times but when there is extra I have the tendency to buy things we haven't had the money for. Sometimes this is things we NEED like clothing or shoes, but sometimes it's just stuff I feel like I've been deprived of living check to check.

I can't think of anything I've purchased that we didn't need right now b/c for MONTHS that extra stuff I was purchasing was all for the trip (and therefore NEEDED! DUH!) Actually, I purchased WAY more than I needed for our trip. Did I REALLY NEED mickey head shaped mac-n-cheese? :confused3

50+ tshirts were probably a bit over the top as well. :rolleyes1 They didn't even use the passports I made or the pressed penny holders. (ahem...you realize I just found an excuse to post pics!)

...................ok, nevermind! I'm having all kinds of trouble with photobucket lately. Anyone have any other suggestions for where to upload pics? I guess I could use snapfish? :confused3

So, since I cannot post pics, I'll have to ramble some more. Should I open a savings account? Hmmmm. OR, I could just book soon and start making payments, that's just as good as a savings, right?

I should also work on ways to cut costs and maybe pick up more clients so that I'm making more money petsitting. I haven't gone to the vets in quite a while to give them my cards. More clients means more money. Of course it also means that it's hard to plan a trip b/c no one wants me to leave town, but I digress...

It is killing me that I can't post any pictures, so I am off to find a different site to upload to. Photobucket is just too flightly lately and I'm in no mood for it. Then I'm off to start my day and TRY to live in the moment and not think of Disney every second. :rolleyes1

Do you think it's unhealthy to be thinking of WDW ALL the time while living everyday life? Maybe I should try to leave it here in my preTR when I log off. I doubt I can though, I'm constantly thinking about ADRs, things I missed, and crunching numbers in my head all day long. Is this normal?!?!?

Karen -soooo, the big question is..... is Rey on board with this? I know you said he kept saying "when we come back blah blah blah" so I would take it to mean so. Anyway, I would pretend you are booking a trip on the website, I mean go through the motions and figure out the pricing without actually making the reservation. They won't let you book 2 rooms anyway. So then crunch the numbers, divide by the amount of months left till the big day and start the savings!! I am sure you have done this all about 10 times already anyway!:) Personally I would book the ressie over the phone asap and then start chipping away at that balance when you can. If you put it in savings, no doubt something will come up that you will use the money for and there goes your vacation! Just think of all the extras (50 shirts:scared1:) that you DON"T have to buy this time and all the money you don't need to spend at DTD cause you already have that Mickey Mouse bottle opener!!! Maybe you can cut back on Christmas, birthdays, etc. and tell the kids their present is going to be the upcoming trip - of course a few little disney items to open could go along with it. Last year I gave my kids scrap book pages that I made them with their princesses, dates of the trip, etc. for Easter - they had no idea I had been planning this since the prior October! Talk about a hard secret to keep! But they were so excited they did not really notice that except for some candy, there were no "big" presents for them to open. Hey every little bit helps! Hey did you see the post about a woman getting $1000 back because she booked her vacation prior to the buy 4 get 3 deal? She called and they refunded her money. Her ya never know! ;) Talk to ya soon - Gina

Gina, he's onboard as much as he's going to be at this point!

When I started talking about actual months, he did crab about going in Jan. 2011 because he wants to go during F&W. Well ok then! Works for me! ;) I love MNSSHP, so I've chosen the last week of Sept. so we can do both!!

Anyway, he knows that I'm planning for September and I have told him that we have to PLAN it and go from there. If we don't plan, we won't go at all, I can't come up with money for a trip overnight and I have to do things like get someone to cover for my petsitting, etc. There's a chance it won't happen, the truck could break or something else, but for now I can't live like I'm not going back, I'll be miserable. :p

I'm being careful to not talk about it TOO much though b/c he's sensitive about money right now and will just get negative about it. He even knows that I made this PreTR, so that's a good sign! :thumbsup2

Oh yes, I've run the numbers on the website, I am hoping to book as soon as possible, right now I'm just trying to play catch up with the bills from the trip we just had!

It is hard to do a table of contents, I can't decide what to include and I ramble so much in ALL my posts that half my trip info isn't in my main posts! :p

Ok, so......

Got to talk Disney with one of my friends who is part of our homeschool group going in September! THIS is going to be fun! :cool1: I think it has something to do with sharing my obsession. :lmao:

Here's my thoughts on the costs right now, try to follow me, if you can't, I won't blame you! (besides, they will most likely change a bunch as well!)

All Star Music
2 rooms for 6 of us. My dd and I stayed at Pop and enjoyed it when we went in 2008 on our first trip with friends, but I want to try something different. I'm also concerned that Pop is just too big for Rey. He doesn't like crowds (although once in the parks he really didn't seem to mind at all, even when F&W was packed one night???) :confused3

but what he dislikes more than crowds are HOTELS. I grew up going to quite a few hotels and I love them! What's better than a place you don't have to make the bed or do dishes that has a pool?? ;)

Anyway, I have heard that ASMU is smaller than Pop and seems less busy. If I had the money, a deluxe would be wonderful place for him to go back and relax at, but it's just not going to happen. Even with a 40% pin code we couldn't pull off 2 rooms at a deluxe, so I have to hope that he loves the theming and doesn't absolutely hate it.

To be honest, I don't think it will be much of a big deal. After seeing him go and go and go at the parks and not really want to stop, I don't think we will be at the hotel all that much anyway! :)

We will have to get 1 base ticket for each of us to do the dining plan (and hopefully free dining!) and then we will get the discounted homeschool tickets. They are 5 day park hopper/WP&M tickets, so that will be nice. 6 park days and probably a waterpark will fill our days to the max...and we cannot forget MNSSHP!

Right now I have priced what it will cost IF it's free dining. I should put my calculations here in case I lose the paper:

ASMU
Room 1 (1 adult, 1 child), 1 base ticket each:
882.06
Room 2 (1 adult, 3 children), 1 base ticket each:
1064.42
Homeschool 5 day hopper/WP&M tickets:
978.00
MNSSHP:
(approx)
330.00

Total: $3254.42
Uh, that is WITH free dining and without air! (another 1200$ at least) Alright Karen, breathe....

So, when I call to book, I have to add the dining plan as well and have a huge bill that will most likely go down or can I not add the dining yet and wait to see if free dining comes out?!?!? Hmmmm.

Also, I think I have to put down $200 on EACH room? Or is it just for one reservation?

Gah, this stuff annoys me, I just want this part out of the way and start planning DAYS and ADRs! THAT's my idea of a good time. :p

Shew! Last night I started stressing out after adding everything up. I need to take the costs in steps and I think I'll be fine, but when I add it all up it seems overwhelming! :scared1:

SOOoooooo, what better to do than plan my days?!! ;) I used 2009 calendars/hours to work on this, I know I may have to revise when the actual hours/parties come out, but it gave me a good guideline and I can still use my TGM and UG subscriptions right now to look at best days.

Arrive Saturday 9/25
avoid F&W at all costs as this will be the opening weekend, most likely!
settle in, DTD

Sun 9/26
MK
It's not the best day to go, but not the worst either. We MUST make our first day MK, no if's, and's, or but's! ;) It's a party night, so we'll do something else this evening, no idea what!

Mon 9/27
DHS
This is the best day for this, last trip we went on a Friday when they had added Fantasmic and it was busier and less magical than I would have liked. Maybe we can do Ohana or something for dinner this night? No TS at DHS for us!

Tues 9/28
EP
rope drop, natch. I want to do more of Future World! I've been to WDW twice and still never been in Innoventions, Nemo, and numerous other areas in front.

Wed 9/29
EP again, this time WS. Rey loves EP, so I want to spend lots of time here, but we have to avoid it on the weekend, mid-week will be best. Probably do Biergarten this day, Rey said it was a must when we go back.

Thursday 9/30
AK
This is the best day for AK this week, thinking that in the evening we should do MNSSHP!

Friday 10/1
BB?
I'm having a harder time fitting all the parks into the 7 days we will have (don't think we'll be able to add another day and go 8 days, we'll have to see how well I can save!)
I know Savannah will want to go to BB, so today will have to be the day. Maybe we can do Boma dinner this day? DTD?

Saturday 10/2
We would have to leave this day, but thought maybe we could do Ohana breakfast and then we would still have a park ticket and we could go to MK for a couple hours before leaving. Note to self: make airline ressies later in the day if we are flying!

Hmmmmm....1 more day would REALLY help. AND, I was wanting to go to Harry Potter World at some point on this trip too. I'll have to wait until reviews come out on that to see if it will be worth the extra day and $$$$.

I need a picture in this post! Photobucket is not cooperating, yet again, so I can't upload any new ones this morning so I'll just post a Hallowishes shot: :p

I am loving your posts, "twoboysnmygirl". I am curious about homeschool days? Is that something that Disney sponsors? Where can I find more info about it?
We are also homeschoolers (with an OCD mom, that's me), with a DD (10) and a DS (8), we are planning a trip for next Sept. 20 - Oct. 1 (provided DH can take off work that long). Looking forward to our first MNSSHP and F&W!! So, you are absolutely NOT the only one planning a year out!

Oh you MUST get the tickets for homeschool days! (they will save you a ton!). Yes, it is Disney sponsored. They usually have 2 days of activities at one of the parks, it changes each Sept. & Jan. There are also special "yes" programs on those days as well which are like classes. We didn't go to those, just purchased the 5 day hopper/WP&M tickets. You do not have to actually attend on the homeschool days, just 7 days before or after. They usually have them the 2nd or 3rd Monday and Tuesday of Sept. Here is the website with info (BUT, it only has Jan. info right now and they will not release the Sept. info until about 3 months out so you have to GUESS when it will be!)

Thanks for the link to the homeschool days. It looks like the tickets are a great deal, and my kids might actually want to attend one of the sessions, too. Kind of hard to plan when they don't have the dates out for Sept. yet.

Also, how does one "subscribe" to a thread? Newbie here.:upsidedow

I can tell you that they have been doing it the 20somethingth, Monday & Tuesday, for the last couple times. I believe they will do it on Sept. 20th and 21st in 2010, but this is just an estimated guess at this point! They did it Mon. (9/21) and Tues (9/22) this year.

To subscribe, go to the top of this page and above my first post you will see "thread tools" when you click on that you can choose to subscribe to the thread! :goodvibes

Oh yes! I got Rey talking about food last night and he was talking about the trip like we are already there! :woohoo:

Rey LOVED the different foods last time, including the F&W festival, so that was one of the big reasons I wanted to go during free dining or get the DDP. We have a few places we loved on the trip, a few that were fun to try that we won't go back to, and a few that we would like to try! We're going to let the kids choose 1 place they would really like to go as well.

Biergarten: This is an absolute must for Rey, he was born in Germany when his father was in the military and lived there until he was 3. He loves the "traditional" German atmosphere and anything German (maybe why he married me??)
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW20091710a.jpg
Please remind me to make a DINNER reservation this trip so we don't lose 2 HOURS of touring like we did last time! I couldn't get him out of this place!
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW20091679a.jpg

Ohana: This is Dylan's pick, he LOVED it. I think it must have something to do with endless food! :lmao: I enjoyed my veggie meal but went on a night that Chef TJ wasn't there (known for making amazing vegan/vegetarian meals) and this time I want to make sure he's there! He doesn't work on the weekends, so I'll make sure to pick a weekday!
I think this must have been one of Dylan's favorite things at WDW, he was happy as a clam at Ohana!
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW20092230a.jpg
YES, this IS happy as a clam...he's 15, cut him some slack! :p

Tusker House: This is my choice! They have a huge selection of vegan food and I love the spices that are used. Boma is the same way for me (you'll notice as I go along just how many choices I have for restaurants! Here is my yummy plate of food at Tusker House and me, STUFFED, afterwards!
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW20091070a.jpg
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW20091075a.jpg

Crystal Palace:This is a MUST do, not b/c I loved the food or the characters (yet I'm sure we shall enjoy them again) but b/c of THIS:
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW2009269a.jpg
I LOVED LOVED LOVED having an early breakfast at Crystal Palace and not having to rush down Mainstreet with rope drop. I unfortunately didn't realize that the lens hood that I was using was showing in my shots until during breakfast, you can see a little black in the top left corner of that shot, that's the hood. So, I must be there early again, non-negotiable! I'm not demanding, really, I just like what I liked! :rolleyes1

Boma: Surprise, surprise! Another place that KAREN wants to go! We didn't go to Boma this past trip, Savannah & I went our first trip when we went alone with my friend M.A. and her daughter. LOVED it! The chef came out and walked me around to let me know what was vegan and what was not. It was a great meal. I would like to go here again. If for some reason we have to cut a meal though, I guess it will be Boma? Not sure. It's similar to Tusker and so the family may negotiate me out of this one. Here is a shot from our first trip, look how young Savannah looks! *sob*
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW2008579.jpg
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW2008581.jpg

Are you keeping track of how many meals that is? No, no, don't go back and count, I'll do it for you. It's 5. That leaves 2 more TS meals to choose and we are leaving those for Eli & Dallas to choose. Eli is coming for the weekend, so we'll look over some of the TS restaurants and she can pick something that sounds good. I'm not sure if Dallas will pick something from a list or not, he doesn't like making choices like that. He didn't care for Ohana though so I want him to pick a place that HE might like, especially since we're going back to Ohana when he doesn't like it!

Savannah wants to go to RFC at DTD. They are NOT on the dining plan, so I told her that I would make an ADR and we would go for a VOLCANO. It's the only reason other than the atmosphere that she likes the place...and I can get a margarita! Everyone's happy! :p
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW2009148a.jpg
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW2009169a.jpg

So, where did we go that we will not be returning? Sci-fi is the first one. It was really fun for the experience, we had a nice time, but the food was meh, ok, and it wasn't something we wanted to repeat. It's one of those been there-done that kind of places for me. :confused3

Chef Mickey's was another! Although we got Savannah's cake there and it was AMAZING, without the cake we would have been sorely disspointed in CM. Characters were fun but the food was dismal. There was really only one thing (some sort of mixed veggies) that I ate, I had 3 servings of it and for the price of this place? We'll pass this time. If they put the same effort into the food as the cake we had ordered for Savannah that would be another thing! We loved it and she did as well. Besides, going back and not getting a cake would kind of ruin it, I think. It was a once in a lifetime sort of thing for her 9th birthday.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW2009826a.jpg

Big River Grille is another we ate at that we won't return to. It was perfect for Rey & I to celebrate our anniversary and sit outside, but there was really nothing very good about the food. Atmosphere was perfect sitting on the boardwalk, but I could have done that at one of the free tables! ;)

Oh, we also ate at the pizza place on the Boardwalk one night and Rey hated it. it was ok, just pizza...the beer was good! Apparently it cost a LOT though (MIL was paying) and I wouldn't spend a lot of money on it.

If we ate anywhere else, I don't remember, so it couldn't have been that memorable!

So anyone have suggestions of great places to eat?!?

Did you catch that I've found a way to post photos! It makes it better to have them, doesn't it?!?! ;)

Wow, a book?!? You are too kind, I doubt I could write a book! ;)

Homeschool days is something that Disney does in September and January, most likely to boost crowds. It is usually the 3rd Monday & Tuesday of that month and there are 5 day park hopper/WP&M tickets you can purchase as well as special programs they have on those 2 days. Here is the website, but it will only have info for Jan. 2010. You have to sort of guesstimate when they will do HS Days in Sept. b/c they don't release the dates until about 2 months beforehand. THAT is not enough time for a planner like me!

Let's see, what has been going on? In my head, I've been constantly planning, but I think it's just the same stuff rolling around in there over and over again! :rolleyes1

I got the verbal OK for Eli to miss any school in September to go with us! There will likely be some teacher conferences anyway, so she won't miss too much. She's here this weekend, so I've been filling her head with Disney, she has no idea what she's in for! :p

Rey's idea of having Dallas & Eli each pick a restaurant might be harder than he thinks! Neither of them have any idea what place they would like to eat at and most of the restaurants are a little more "exotic" than they have tried, so they have no clue if they will like them. I sat down at the computer with Eli and when she saw the list of restaurants for WDW, her eyes got big and she and asked if THAT was the list. I laughed and said yes and she said "I'M GOOD... No, really. I'm good!" She wasn't about to go through that list!

I'm unclear as to how many in our homeschool group will be going in September, but my friend Hope and her family are for sure. I've been having a good time sending her link after link and chatting her up about WDW ever moment I get! Sharing an obsession can be fun! ;)

Rey is finally (I say finally like the trip is tomorrow or something or I've been planning this for months! LOL) talking about the trip like it is going to happen. He still says things like "we need to make sure we get this paid off" and "I hope we can swing this" but that's a BIG FAT YES WE ARE GOING in Rey's world!

I have more petsitting than normal coming up for Thanksgiving, so I'm hoping to actually BOOK our rooms! I was going to wait until January, but if I have it, I think I'll just go ahead and do it. I had to laugh b/c I got a pin code yesterday! 30% off at a value...for the next month or two. Nice rate, but I don't have the time or the money in the next 2 months! I'm pleased that I'm on "the list" though and have a chance at more pin codes! I doubt any of them will save us what free dining will, but then again, they could not do free dining for some strange reason and a pin will help! :thumbsup2

I just realized there's no pictures in this update...we can't have THAT! Here are some shots of the girls yesterday, making a fire and attempting to roast marshmallows.

Oh I hope it's normal....

So I read your trip report, and LOVED it, but couldn't reply b/c they close finished trip reports on the WDW area. Not so much on the DLR trip report forum, thank goodness!

I loved your report b/c you tell it all, you don't just gloss over the negatives. I do that too, and people have said that they love it, but I didn't realize why until I read your report. Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to have an all happy happy joy joy trip, but it hasn't happened yet, and I don't want people to think that they are the only ones having moments that are less than pure joy. So anyway, loved your report. And I noticed it b/c you had updated your post about when Rey's truck was having problems, etc, and I'm SO glad you were able to go!!!!

It's pretty cool that you're vegan and raw most of the time. I aspire to be vegan, but, being honest with myself, I'm not sure it'll ever happen. But then you're also open to allowing yourself to be "just" vegetarian, and that's cool.

I wish the homeschool days were in December, b/c that's when we want to go! :) Your posts about your group made me long for a group of our own. Sigh. We're still kind of hermit-ish about homeschooling, but it's early days, so we have plenty of time to find people (DS is 5).

Just wanted to let you know I'm reading and appreciating! Oh and you also showed me the beauty of putting trip-report-related posts in bold and replies in just normal font. Thank you for that!!!! I'll be reading!

OMG, I had NO IDEA that they closed the finished trip reports and wouldn't let people post! I wouldn't have been so pushy about it being put in the finished trip reports if I knew THAT! :lmao:

I'm so glad you liked it and so glad you are reading my pretrip report now too!! :goodvibes

Oh and as for a homeschool group, I started ours when we moved out here. We were "hermitty" when we first started too, you'll know when it's time to get a group going or find one. We love ours, it's grown to a large group and we've started a co-op as well, which is perfect for my kids as they are getting older now! If you ever want to chat homeschooling, PM me! :)

Hey Karen, I have not been around much - don't get much computer time on the weekends - Kids take it over!:surfweb: Yes, you would have to put $200 per room down. Have you figured out if free dining is cheaper than getting a buy 4 get 3 free deal? I don't think I paid that much for the 7 of us in July and we were there for 8 days?

Anyway glad you are planning away - great job! I am leaving Sunday and still have nothing packed UGHHHH! But I am definatley getting hyped up for sure! Have fun planning and keep a look out for those specials!:woohoo:

Leaving Sunday and you have nothing packed!?!?!?!?!?

Yes, I crunched the numbers and with all the places that Rey wants to eat, Free Dining is the best value for us.

So, even if I'm booking a package of 2 rooms with 1 base ticket for each of us, will I need 200$ per room? Anyone know? I thought if it was a package and not just rooms that you just paid the $200?

We're down here, feeling under the weather, sorry I don't have any new updates!

I'll help you think about your past trip and the future one, by asking you questions! What did you find to eat at the biergarten? Although I do love beer, since all of us are vegetarian, I figured we'd just cross that place off the list. But if there's something good to eat as a family of ovo lacto vegetarians, maybe we could swing by. :)

Also, you had lunch at Tusker House, yes? I know you enjoyed your meal and I think you said you're going again on the future trip? I had thought about breakfast there, just to be at the park early, but honestly lunch looks so much more interesting!

Mmmm, I really loved the potato leek soup at Biergarten! I know, I'm supposed to be a vegan (I am a vegan for health first, then ethics, so sometimes I slip right back into vegetarian when faced with amazing veggie food!) I couldn't resist that soup and I dipped their pretzel bread in it and thought I would just float away! Very good stuff.

There was also a variety of salads, I remember liking the beet salad, tomato salad, and cucumber salad. There were some amazing roasted potatoes and I had sauerkraut as well that I enjoyed. My dd, who is vegetarian, had mac-n-cheese, if anyone in your group eats that. There was Cheese Spatzle as well.

I'm not sure I would go there with just an amazing vegetarian meal in mind, but I felt there was plenty of food for me to at least enjoy and take in the atmosphere, which is what I was really there for...and of course the beer was the icing on the cake! ;) We will be going back b/c Rey LOVED it, it is top on his list for the next trip!

Tusker House (and Boma, but we didn't go there this trip) were the two that I felt had an amazing variety for vegetarians and I WOULD go there for just the meal! I haven't had breakfast at either though, but if your family is ovo-lacto, there should be lots of selections for breakfast as well!

Mini-update!

I can't help it, I just want to update every day and I'm pretty sure I'll run out of things to say if I do that for 10 months!

I appreciate all the questions, I would love to answer any that anyone has (anything to keep me talking, right?) :p

I'm still annoyed with myself for pushing to have my trip report put with the finished reports, I had no idea that meant it got closed and no one could post on it! DOH! :headache:

On to the "update" ;)

I told Rey today that for Christmas I would pretty please like the money to book our rooms. I know, I know...if you read my OFF WITH THEIR HEADS TP, you are gasping right now that I didn't tell him I wanted the 35mm lens that I complained about not having the WHOLE TRIP! I swore I wouldn't ask for another thing until I had that lens, but...

Finding 200$ is a little tricky for a trip 10 months away. It seems that when I have it, there is always something else that it can be used for. :sad2: This is EXACTLY why I want to book soon and start paying on it instead of just SAVING for it. If I save the money for the trip, things will happen (like they always do), stuff will break, etc. and we will end up using that money. If I book and make payments to Disney, the money is "gone" and we will find it elsewhere when things happen.

So, my goal is to get over this little mini-hump and book those rooms! I talked to Rey and he said he would like to give the money to the whole family for a group Christmas gift! WOW! He's really onboard here, I'm thinking I have completely converted the man!

In FACT, HE said that he would save up on the road from his advances (this means the food money he gets folks!) and make payments on the trip as well. WOW! I don't even know what to do with that!

So anyway, it's just a tiny report, but I think that's news worth reporting! :woohoo:

hmmmm...I need a picture, don't I? ;)

Ah yes, the ramblings of an OCD planner! If you think this is fun, just wait until they change EMH to something off the wall compared to 2009, change fantasmic nights or hours at the parks...THEN you'll see me in full form!

Until then though, I plan and plan until I have it in my head how it's going to work so that when they change stuff I can FULLY experience stressing out and the joy of changing it all!

I sat down with my friend Hope last night to plan, they are the other homeschooling family that is going with us. There may be more, but for now, we are the only people planning 10 months out. You'll see though, if anyone else joins us, they will be scurrying around trying to get free dining or figure out days and get ADRs and we'll be all ready! :p

Hope is *almost* as much of a planner as me. Well, maybe she is just as much of a planner, just not as OCD about it! This will for all purposes be her first trip, she only went to MK for about 6 hours with her senior trip years ago. Anywho...

she sat down and had her days tentatively planned out already! I was impressed! 2 hours an a bottle of wine later we had the plan! ;) There are a few days they will be at different parks and they are leaving a day before us, but I think it's going to be a great balance of being together and not, if that makes any sense! :p

So, I have it planned down to meals now, wanna see??!?!? I have mixed up our TS, CS, & S credits to fit how I thought they would work best, that's why some days you will see 2 TS and some you don't see any. I also put an (H) when Hope's family would be in the same place at the same time as us. We'll also be swimming together at ASMU in the afternoons a bit as well!

Okay 3 days out for me - suitcases still in the attic - I guess I am in a funk since I am not taking the kids this trip and feel a little guilty:confused3? I def need to get my you know what in gear and big time! I need some pixie dust and soon!

Hey Karen, Love your TR and PTR reading both right now. I'm Sheila, newbie here but a well researched newbie. We are homeschoolers (LOVE IT!) too and are planning our trip for Sept 2010. I think we will be able to enjoy it more with going off-season.

Oh I must say you are not the only ocd that plans a year in advance I have been planning for Sept 2010 since July of this year. We have our hotel ressies, and our car rental ressie. Yes we are driving!:scared1: But we are only in Tennessee and we will driving down at night, so hopefully it won't be too bad.
And just a couple of days ago I just ordered our tickets:cool1:....lol...so talk about ocd. Only problem having to wait until March to make our ADRs:rotfl:.

Well good luck and have fun on your trip.

The homeschool discount is just discounted tickets. It's not part of a package or any other discount. They only have the info out on Jan. 2010 right now, but they do it every Sept. and Jan! Here's the link:

WOO HOO!!!! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!:worship: This is going to save us soooooo much $$$ :worship:I

I am going to have to try to control myself and just wait it out until they post the Sept. dates. I just have to keep telling myself that is will save me about $700. That just may be my excuse to rethink staying offsite and actually stay at a resort. But then the decision is whether to stay at Disney and travel to Universal or stay at Universal and travel to Disney. hmmm something for me to ocd about :rotfl:

Ooooh, I'm itching to post that I have booked our rooms! I haven't though.

Next week! I have a lot of clients for Thanksgiving and will have the extra to put down and reserve our room! I think we have decided (for today) that we are going to do the family suite at ASMU. It makes more sense to have the kitchenette and with 2 rooms I can just see the teenagers fighting over those beds. Now they will just be crammed into one room and have to deal with it! Rey & I will be nice and comfy in our Queen size bed tho! :lmao:

Rey came through for 2 days this week, I was so pleased b/c he wasn't planning on coming home until Christmas. Each year he stays out on Thanksgiving so that we can be sure that he'll be here on Christmas. Well, found out today that they got him a load that comes through here next Wednesday night and he'll leave Thursday night. He's going to be home on Thanksgiving!!!!!!

I think he's only been home on Thanksgiving twice in the last 15 years, so I'm excited! I have lots of petsitting in the morning and evening, but there should be time to make a little meal for us and I think I'll put up the Christmas tree too. That way he'll get to see it more than once before Christmas is over. ;)

Of course we all know that he could care less about the Christmas tree, but if I can find a reason other than my OCD to do something, that's what my story is and I'm stickin to it! :p

Whohoooo!!!!! It's official!

I called up and booked our room at ASMU this morning! My heart is POUNDING I'm so excited! (I know I'm a dork, you'll just have to humor me here) I booked the family suite since there are 6 of us, I chose that over 2 rooms b/c of the kitchenette. Here's a picture I found:

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/Allstarmusicsuite.gif

It was a *little* annoying b/c she really was pushing everything, trying to rack up that price. She REALLY wanted the ddp on my reservation, she said it would be easier to just call up and switch to free dining, but she was kind enough to tell me how much less it would be with free dining and that since I was making payments, just don't pay off more than that amount. I had to double check twice to make sure she wasn't adding that trip insurance but in the end, we have the reservation and now I will pay my payments and hopefully have it paid off right around the time they release the free dining! So, family suite at ASMU, here we come!!!!!

I.AM.SO.EXCITED!!!!!!! :cheer2:

I know it seems silly when all I did was put $200 down on a room, but it feels like a first trip for us since the last trip was not only offsite but paid for my my MIL. I have to run and call Rey to tell him all about it! BTW, last night he was already talking about Bounceback offers and how he'll never go to WDW unless it's F&W, he'll just keep going at the same time EVERY year!

I have to leave you with one of my pictures, of course! How about a TA-DA! We're going to WDW shot!

Yup, I am one of those nutcases that started a September 2010 PTR too. I have had it going for quite awhile now, since October. :rotfl2: I was going to wait until March or May but then I decided I am going to need suggestions and sounding board so I do not drive my DH crazy! ;)

I am so happy you were able to book your trip!!! :cool1: One thing I noticed was in planning for Free Dining, don't forget to add the upgrade cost into your budget to get to the DDP instead of the QSDP that is free for value resort guests. If you are like me, I have a huge excel sheet for our budget with everything I can think of on it.

Looking forward to following along with your trip planning process.

Yay! I'm so glad you are reading! I'm hoping that we'll get the FULL ddp dining that they have been offering from mid-Aug to the end of Sept. in the past years. If they only do the QSDP, I guess we'll have to throw in the extra to make it the ddp, but I'm hoping we don't have to!

Gah, he's not coming home for Thanksgiving after all. :sad2: You would think I was used to this, but sometimes it just gets to me. I was way too excited for him to be home, I should have known. The load is taking WAY too long and now he'll be rushed to get it delivered, yada, yada...so is the life of a truck driver. :confused3

I made a little payment today on our package! Seriously, it was LITTLE! I just wanted to make a payment, maybe if I keep this up I can actually get it paid by August! :lmao:

I have lots of petsitting this week b/c of Thanksgiving, so that will not only keep my mind off Rey not coming home after all but give me a little extra cash! I'm glad they won't take less than $20 b/c I would probably just make a $5 payment every day if I could!

Hummmm, what picture should I post? How about the tree that I put up so Rey could see it before Christmas that I put up for nothin'. At least someone will see it!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! (a day late!) :thumbsup2

But, but, we DID celebrate today! Rey couldn't make it home yesterday, but today he came through for THREE hours! I warmed up all the food from yesterday and we had Thanksgiving together. :lovestruc

Oy, I worked on the budget the other day and was adding everything in my head and just stopped before I got overwhelmed. :sad2: Separately everything looks do-able, but when I start adding it up, it just seems like SO MUCH MONEY.

Isn't this supposed to be FREE dining, value resort, and homeschool tickets?!?!?!

Rey is no help at all. The man is crazy when it comes to souvenirs, he spent WAY more money than me on the trip and is talking about using the pin (if they send it right before our trip) to get one of those $600 or $1000 gift cards (that can ONLY be used on merchandise). WHAT?!?!? We don't need all that! I guess it's a good thing that he's excited about the trip though, so I shouldn't complain. I'm the realist in this union and I'm tellin' ya...we won't have that kind of money to get a gift card! We'll be lucky if we squeak in enough for my drinks! And we WILL have some money for my drinks!

Tomorrow I'm heading to Hope's house to let the girls play and talk more Disney. We really have almost all our plans made already, so we'll have to figure out something to plan! :lmao:

Hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving!

Ok, I'm getting a little nervous thinking I'm just talking to myself here...but then again, that wouldn't be anything new!

I decided that I would make up a to-do list of things I haven't seen yet that I would like to see. Savannah and I nave been to WDW twice now and I was pretty amazed at all the things we still haven't seen. There are quite a few that I have no interest in seeing that aren't even on the list! I suppose this will force me to make a list of our favorites as well. How convenient! ;)

So, starting with MK: The first time we went, we missed Space Mountain and this last time it was closed for refurb. It's TOP on our list!
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/space-mountain.jpg

Next on the list is Philharmagic! It was on my list this past trip and we missed it yet again! I think it's b/c I'm trying to get all the rides out of the way at rope drop and then forget to go back for it later.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/mickeysphilharmagic.jpg

Last at MK is Carousel of Progress. I just never found the time? :confused3 I can't figure out if people like this or it's just a classic like IASM? Some of my readers will have to let me know.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/IMG_1222.jpg

Next comes Epcot. Oh Epcot, how your countries elude me! :sad2: First trip we got through Mexico, China, and Norway and then walked right by the rest of them over to Morroco to eat and then were too pooped to do more. Why we only had 1 day here, I have no clue, but I never even SAW France, Canada, UK or that side of WS at all. The 2nd trip we actually walked BY them, and were at Epcot 3 times, but F&W (and IL's...ahem) kept us from spending enough quality time at Epcot. Rey hasn't been INSIDE a single country area except Germany! We will be spending quite a bit of time at World Showcase this trip!

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/AL_UKPAV_240.jpg

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/AL_CANPAV_240.jpg

We also have planned for Savannah to do Kim Possible since she missed it last time. We have planned an afternoon that she can do it with one of her friends who will be at WDW as well for homeschool days!
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/KimPossible_1_240.jpg

I won't forget Marie either! We were very disappointed to miss her and it will be one of the first things we do when we get to WS! Savannah loves Marie, she even had a Marie shirt for meeting her:
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW20092956a.jpg

and that is just World Showcase! What we have missed in Future World is even more dismal!

Folks, I've never seen Figment. No clue who he even is! How awful is that?
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/AL_JOURIMAG_240.jpg

Never been in Innoventions East OR West!!
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/AL_INNO_240.jpg

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/AL_NEMOP_240.jpg

Right about now you are asking yourself..."How could she have missed all this?" Well, you must not have read my trip report if you are asking yourself that!

DHS is much better, I only have two on the list for there. The Magic of Disney Animation and Star Tours.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/2404723425_204713033f.jpg

At Animal Kingdom we have seen a LOT, but we have missed Nemo, so that is top of the list for this trip!
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/EL_FNM_240.jpg

So there you have it! Epcot is scheduled for quite a few different times and days, I gave Future World and World Showcase their own days and then we are also going to be there for dinner 2 different nights. Hopefully that will help! MK is a little harder b/c there are so MANY favorites that we want to do on top of the others. I know we'll do Space Mountain for certain but the others we'll have to see.

We will be at MK on our first day and also for the Halloween Party, so we should be able to see a lot of our favorites and hopefully add a couple more.

Nemo is a must at AK b/c Eli LOVES Nemo! We'll skip Lion King this time, Savannah & I have seen it twice and Rey didn't care for it that much anyway. :confused3

Alright, Peace-out! (if there is anyone actually our there reading!) :lmao:

Hi, I'm following along too! Just found your PTR. My husband and I will be taking his parents to Disney to celebrate their 40th anniversary and our 10th the same time you will be there! I booked our package in August when the rates came out. This will be their first trip and I can't wait to show them why we like it so much! It seems like such a long time away but the more time we have is the more time I have to pay on it! :thumbsup2

Hi Mary!!! I'm so glad you are reading, we can countdown together! I think today is 296 days!

Have you gone at the end of September before? The first time I went with a friend was early September and it was HOT! Crowds were great though, but we didn't do a lot of TS and I'm a little worried the restaurants will be packed. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has though about how the last week of Sept. will have free dining AND F&W, so I'm worried it will be busier.

Anyway, there I go on a tangent about what I'm worried about! ;)

I haven't went in September before but we've been twice at Halloween (this year and last year) and this year was HOT and last year was COLD. We've been during spring break also so I figure if I could handle that I can handle most crowds. We will be doing the Deluxe Dining plan and I am so ready for the time to make our ADRs arrives. I really like the F&W and look forward to using my snacks over there!

I had considering booking the ASMusic family suites at first but we decided to go with 2 rooms at Coronado Springs instead.

--side note, my husband was also born in Germany (dad was in the military) and lived there until he was 2 or 3.

Karen,
All caught up now:goodvibes, I'm happy for you that Rey made it home for Thanksgiving although it was the next day, at least you were able to spend a few hours with him:hug:. Keep the PTR coming, you always write good reports. How's the book coming along(HA,HA).:rotfl2:

 Yes, on the DIS everyone tells me to write a book and in my daily life, friends tell me I need to be a WDW planner or travel agent! :lmao:

Maybe that would help FUND my Disney addiction?!?!?

Right now I'm on a rampage, doing search after search, trying to find people or reports of that last week of September. I know it's not a busy time, but I also know that the DAYS you choose have a lot to do with it.

I've seen people who went the same week(not September, just TR's in general) and one of them thought it was pretty busy and the other thought it was dead, I know this is b/c of the day they chose to go to the parks.

I'm stressing b/c our first day I want to do MK. It just doesn't seem like WDW if I don't do MK first! Well, that's going to be a Sunday. Last year on that Sunday (I believe it was Sept. 27th), they did NOT have MNSSHP even though they usually do on Sundays? AND it was EMH in the evening. That's better than AM EMH. I will not go to AM EMH, I think they are more crowded than just going to an park at regular opening. Anyway, I'm worried about MK on a Sunday but I know Monday will be worse and even leaving a day early would put us there on a Saturday which wouldn't be better either. Sigh. :confused3

See how I overthink things??? :rolleyes1

Hello, I'm reading too!! Your trip report was fun to read and I'm also enjoying your new pre-trip. I was at WDW this year from September 26th - October 3 with free dining. It was extremely HOT!! I'm from Idaho and we have no humidity so that was difficult to get used to. Our first day was at MK and it was on a Sunday. Other than our last day at Epcot this was the most crowded day. This was my first trip to WDW so I have no comparision to crowds but we thought the crowds were pretty low. The waits for rides was pretty good, maybe 10 or 20 mins. The wait was always less than the sign said. :cool1:

The worst crowds we encountered the whole week was for our ADRs. We always had to wait 45 mins or longer before we got seated. But with free dining I wasn't too surprised. But it did get a bit annoying after a few days.

Bwahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa! :lmao:

Ok, when you are done with the Nutcracker, you must call me or we have to get together. An emergency F&W change issue!

For those of you following along, Hope is my friend who is going at the same time as we are. We have been planning like mad.

Looks like we will have more planning b/c there is conflicting info on whether the F&W will start on the last weekend of Sept. 2010 after all! The Disney site actually says Oct. 1-Nov. 14 instead of Sept. 24-Nov. 7th like on the pamphlet handed out for 2009 F&W.

This throws everything I have planned out the window as we will have to try and spend Friday (our last park day) at the opening of F&W. Rey is bummed about not having F&W going on the whole time.

Anyway, we'll have to have 2 itineraries until they release the date for F&W 2010. Now part of me is annoyed, but the part of me that likes to plan??? Well... :rolleyes1

Jodi, thank you for the info! I'm concerned about doing MK on Sunday, but it's our first day and no matter how I move things around, my dd (and I) are pretty adamant about going to MK on our first day. I just don't know what to do about it! Even if we arrived a day earlier or later we would be heading to MK on bad days. :confused3

Why, oh why, Disney, must you mess with my plans??? :sad2:

Other than having my first day at MK on a Sunday (not an optimal day for crowds), the rest of my week looked perfect! We would spend mid-week at Epcot and the F&W wouldn't be as busy, I had it all planned out.

So then I'm looking at the WDW site and see that they have F&W listed to start on OCTOBER 1st?!?!?!? I called and was told that the "official word" is that it's still starting Sept. 24, but that doesn't really make me feel better. Why would the site say October 1st? Me thinks they are doing to change the dates on us. :scared:

So I rip out my schedule and start moving things around. *grumble*

You know how when you have everything all set up and scheduled perfectly and then a wrench gets thrown into it? It was not easy changing it and now we have to spend our only full day at World Showcase on the opening day of F&W! It's our last day and Rey really wants to go to F&W. He was pretty disappointed when I told him it wouldn't be going on all week.

I tried to extend my days, change when we arrived and left...it just doesn't work. I did call up and add 2 days to my reservation, but I know I won't keep them, it jacked the price up almost 1000$???? Probably b/c they have the ddp on there as well.

Anyway, I have a new "contingency" plan for if they change the F&W dates and the CM said they were going to contact the web people to see why it was listed as Oct. 1st, but I'm guessing it's not a mistake. It was even extended out a week into November. I just hope they officially announce it before the end of March, that is when I need to make my ADR's and they will be different depending on which schedule I use.

Ah, here is another answer I got from someone that has a recent Epcot guide, that pretty much confirms it: "On the current EPCOT Holidays Around the World festival guide, the dates are listed from October 1 - November 14."

I guess if I wasn't a planner and just winged it, I wouldn't be having this problem!

I'll leave you with a picture that is related to my ranting...
here I am with 2 margarita's at F&W (Rey didn't want his, I'm not THAT big of a lush to order two...at once!)

I know! I understand they have to change things, but I think it's awful that they printed the Sept. 24-Nov.7 dates on the 2009 F&W pamphlet and THEN changed it. They should have known long before that or they shouldn't have changed it. Even the CM's are confused about it, but it looks like on the newest pamphlet and website the dates HAVE changed.

Ok, since we had the F&W "glitch", I needed to move things around. It's not perfect as I really don't WANT to go to the first day of F&W, especially since it's our only WS day and last time Rey didn't see ANYTHING INSIDE the countries as all and I was hoping we could spend a fair amount of time in WS NOT doing F&W. Argh, I'm so torn right now. I have enough money to buy my lens for myself for a Christmas gift, OR, I can make another payment on the reservation. I don't know what to do! I think this will be a common theme and I have to wonder WHEN I will get the lens if I'm always choosing to make a payment? BUT, I could work towards getting the room paid off and THEN get the lens in late spring? Of course then I'll have to be coming up with airfare, ticket, and spending money. Hmmmm

AND, b/c I don't have a new lens, I haven't been taking pictures so I have nothing new to share with you. BAD Karen!

I've been requesting DISigns for t-shirts already, I'm going to try VERY hard not to make 50 shirts this time, but I can't help it! To make matters worse, I've decided that I am going to decorate the window at ASMU! That's even MORE designs! I do have our "Theme" if that's what you call it, for 2010. We all love Nightmare Before Christmas and this will be our first family trip with ALL of us, it will only be our 3rd vacation ever, but our FIRST with Eli and just "US". So, I found a quote from Nightmare that fits us, I'm putting it on our window and on a shirt: "For it is plain, as anyone can see. We're simply meant to be."
:lovestruc

I'm sure my family will think I'm nuts...not that they don't already!
It's official...I'm certifiable. :ccat:

Did I mention it's FREEZING here?!?!? 6 degrees this morning. Yep. So I was looking through my pictures trying to find something "WARM" to post and this is the best I could come up with...this would warm ME up, I don't know about you! :p

Besides, a wedding in 2011 will give us another excuse to go to Disney AGAIN!!!! Anyways, I am really looking forward to reading your updates!!! You have a beautiful family! OH, and cat, too! (I have 3 of my own and am babysitting another one while a coworker is in Iraq). Don't guote me on it but I'm pretty sure last year when we went to MNSSHP, Columbia Harbor House was closed.

Ooooh, I will have to check. I do plan on getting there around 4pm, we can get in then even though the party doesn't start until 7pm. If it's closed during the party I will have to make sure we go straight there and eat before party time. We had the same issue with Cosmic Rays closing part of their food area during the party (the ONLY part that had a vegetarian item...except a veggie burger) the first time my dd & I were there with friends in 2008.

Ah, no pressed penny folder (but that's a GREAT idea!...Hope???) I had made penny rolls out of mini M&M tubes, that's probably what you read!

Oh and I have more than 1 cat...I have 2 cats and 2 dogs. Now...this may seem like a lot less than you, BUT, I implore you...do you have a really large dumb Boxer who likes to escape the yard? A polydactyl cat with extra thumbs who likes to open doors on his own? A japanese bobcat with no tail who licks anything made of plastic? Oh no, you are making me want to post photos of them! ;)

But that will have to wait...the next photo I post will be with MY NEW LENS!!!!! :woohoo: That's right folks, I got a Christmas bonus from a client and it pushed me over the edge! Yes, the honeymoon will most definitely be in Disney ---- is there anywhere else? Although I think it will be a quick honeymoon weekend here in Maine and then a family trip for the 3 of us to Disney!!! Nope, he's never been to Disney, so I will have to convert him. Ah, no pressed penny folder (but that's a GREAT idea!...Hope???)

I'm ordering my pressed penny folders on eBay (they have lots for super cheap so I'm willing to share my source ;) ). I'm just doing plain, non-Disney ones because the kids already have lots of these on other vacations (yep, I go to places other than WDW :scared1: ) and will just put them all in the same folder. Of course if you wanted you could cover the folders bought online- hmm, maybe when I get the mine and get the dimensions I'll see if someone can do a personalized non-Disney cover. :rolleyes1

I can hardly contain myself, I purchased my lens and it will arrive Thursday! That seems like an eternity, you would think I could be patient, I've been waiting for months for this thing! I was lucky enough to have a couple clients give me Christmas bonuses, so it made the decision easy! :thumbsup2

I have decided, however, that I just can't talk about payments on our package with Rey. He doesn't get the concept that if we "wait until next month" b/c things might be tight with money, that it will never get paid. He doesn't deal with the bills other than handing over his hard earned cash, so I understand that he doesn't get it. He told me to hold off on making a payment right now when I brought it up. So, I'll wait b/c he asked me to, but in the future I think I should just pay pay pay a little at a time and not discuss every payment. It's the same concept as coming up with the deposit that I talked about previously. There is ALWAYS something else it can go to, so you just have to bite the bullet and pay it and then the money is "gone". I'm rambling, I digress...

We went to see The Princess & The Frog yesterday (with Hope no less!) and we loved it! I can see some new tshirts designs in my future! It was funny, going to WDW has changed how I notice Disney stuff. Savannah too. During the opening credits where they show the Disneyland castle and play the music/fireworks, Savannah looked back and me and smiled with that knowing smile. I almost leaned over the told Hope that she would never watch another Disney movie opening without thinking of Wishes, but I was trying to control myself...Rey says I talk too much during movies! :p

So, now that I have my lens (well, almost! Hurry up UPS!) I can dig a little deeper (heehee...reference to the movie) and start making those payments as frequently as possible! I think I have it in my head that they need to be at least $100 or more, but I bet I would pay off more if I did $20 at a time as well. It doesn't seem like much, but if I keep waiting for bigger amounts I might spend the smaller amounts on things that aren't needed. Ooops, there I go rambling again! :rolleyes1

Expect lots of photos starting Thursday or Friday, I have to get lots of practice with the new lens, right?!!! and...since I can't seem to post without posting pics, I'll make good and show you a shot of my dogs. Max is my dumb Boxer, he's normally in a confused state and don't hold any food in your hand like you are going to give it to him as he drools like a faucet all over the floor! He's 2 1/2 and calming down "a bit" but can be quite a spaz!

It's quite a ways away, but it will go by so fast!!!

Ooooh! I'm so happy you joined my PTR! I read your trip report right before leaving on our trip in October, it got me in the spirit! :)

OH, your dogs are sooooo cute!! and my goodness you take awesome pictures! This weekend I purchased Victoria & my white t-shirts and a tye dye kit. I've traced the Mickey head on both and I will be attempting to make the spiral mickey t-shirts soon. Hey, there's a lot to do in 9 months and 9 days.....

Oh Yay Tie dye! My advise (even though you didn't ask) is to take your time and make sure the rubberbands around the mickeyhead are tight! We will be making more as well, but probably not until early summer. You'll have to show me how yours turn out!

OH, I forgot to ask ---- I think in one of your posts yhou mentioned making your own pressed penny folder....or am I dreaming???? Are there instructions on the Dis creative boards????:flower3:

Hey Ann, I thought of you today when I found these while I was deeply lost in the DISign boards...

http://www.4shared.com/file/54217281/bc7076f0/Pressed_Pennies__Left.html?dirPwdVerified=b6bb9149

http://www.4shared.com/file/54217280/cb774666/Pressed_Pennies_Right.html?dirPwdVerified=b6bb9149

I've decided to just let the kids glue their pennies to these and keep them in their scrapbook instead of buying the folder on eBay. I'm assuming only one side has a design like most pressed pennies, otherwise I'll have to revise this plan!

and what is this about glueing pressed pennies into something? I haven't seen something on the DIS??? How is that possible? Off to click on that link of yours...

Oh, that's so nice of you to think of me, Hope. I haven't quite decided what to do yet! Putting them in the scrapbook is a great idea since I'm a huge scrapper myself.

Well, I am going to use the idea! It will work well b/c I have found that before the trip I'm all gung-ho about pin trading and penny smashing, but then we never get around to it?? :confused3 Last trip we got ONE penny! So, gluing (is that how you spell that?????) will work well for us as I'm guessing there won't be that many...but I'm gonna try harder this time!

Oooooh Squeeee! I told you I would be a happy camper when I got my lens and I am! It arrived today and I've been playing with it. Cannot wait to get it to WDW and get all those shots I couldn't get in October! ;)

It's a 35mm 1.8 and it's great for low light and has a beautiful creamy bokeh (the blurry background). NOW I can finally start making payments more consistently. It's no good to have the lens for the trip and not have a trip for lack of money! Here's just a couple shots I took a little bit ago...

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/nikkor35mm086ab.jpg

So, Hope and I decided that we're going to start walking 3x a week. I'll go to her house once, she'll go to mind once and then the other time will be after homeschool playgroup. I really need to get some weight off, but more importantly get in shape for all that walking! I just feel better and it really annoyed me when my body didn't want to go anymore when we were on the trip but my mind did!

I'm playing with the idea of training for the 1/2 marathon F&W Festival opening. I think I'm nuts and I'm not sure yet AT ALL, but it's rolling around in my head. How far is a 1/2 marathon anyway??? I think it's at midnight or something at Epcot? I swear I read something about it, I'll have to look into it. Not only would it be great for my health, but so so so fun...

Eli is coming on Sunday for the week and we're all excited for Winter Solstice & Christmas, the lens just happens to make it even more exciting for me. ;) I'll be posting pictures but it may not be until after the holidays. Merry Christmas to everyone if I don't check in before then! (who am I kidding? I think I can go 2 days without updating??) :lmao:

Awesome Pictures!!! Wow! What a difference a lens can make. I especially love your doggie!!! As for me, I still haven't been able to put the deposit down on the trip yet. Money has been so tight with heating season, Christmas, and just plain life!!! Can't wait for the good old tax refund to come in....oh, wait....I have to actually file the taxes first! UGH!:rotfl: But, I usually get most of it back being a single mom, head of household, so some of that money will go towards the trip! That's great that you and Hope are going to go walking! Need to practice for Disney!!!!

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/cookies156a.jpg

What does this have to do with WDW, you ask?

Uh...er..um...well, they are Christmas cookies and Christmas is making money tight and to add insult to injury, Rey won't get paid Monday like normal (paperwork issues?) so my petsitting money, which was SUPPOSED to make a payment on our package, will have to pay for groceries. Bah humbug! Each time I don't make a payment when I wanted to, I get frustrated and a little more stressed about getting this paid for. I know it's 9 months away, but time FLIES when you have excuses for using the money elsewhere and I don't want to get stressed out in the end (uh...so I'm stressing now? Makes sense)

Kareeeennnnnnn--

I loved your Offffffff with their heads report. I am in for this one, too. I am a planner too, but work too many hours to devote my time to it. Not planning a trip till next December (gotta see the holiday decorations at least once!), but we are starting the planning already. It will be me and my sister (no husbands or kids, he he he). We are Dis fanatics - she more than me.

Oh, and a half marathon is around 13 miles. I did the Avon Breast Cancer walk one year (I'm a survivor!), and I believe it was 26.2 miles for the marathon length. Good luck. It should be great fun, with the right attitude.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to tripping along with you....:thumbsup2

Hi Stinkerbell!!!! I found out there is a 5K as well in MK at 7am on our last day. I'm contemplating it, but we'll see if I can get off my tush and get myself training!

I'm so glad you liked my TR! Let me know if you start one too. I would love to see the holiday decorations, but my busiest time of year for petsitting is during the holidays, so I won't get to see them anytime in the near future! *pout*

Merry Christmas! (a couple days early!) We are celebrating today, as well as tomorrow and Christmas b/c Eli is here and we take her home tomorrow. The house is rocking to the sound of Beatles Rockband, uploading MP3 players, and laughter this morning! :lovestruc

There is a very large blip in our celebration and it very much effects our trip plans (or at least the payments I was intending on making!). Rey got suspended from work for 30 days! It's a truck driver thing, but basically he had 3 logbook issues in a year and had been shut down by DOT, so they gave him a suspension. I'm trying to roll with the punches here, we'll be ok, I think, deferring some bills and using my petsitting money (ahem...that was supposed to be making trip payments) for groceries, etc. He'll go back Jan. 21st, so it will just be very tight until then! There is ALWAYS a bright side to everything in my world though, and this means I get him home for a month! I don't think he has been here for a month for over 13 YEARS, so it will be nice to have an extended period of time to spend with him, especially in the dead of winter. Hopefully he'll be missing out on driving in some bad storms as well. You have to try and find a silver lining sometimes, right?!?!?!

Anyway, I attempted to get a family pic of all 4 kids and failed miserably. My boys really do hate having their pics taken, so it was like pulling teeth! On top of that, learning a new lens and the ins and outs is NOT something that's easily done with resistant subjects! :p The girls did great though! Here are some of our holiday pics:

party: Happy New Year!!!!!!! pixiedust:

I hope everyone is starting off the year well today! We stayed up and had a couple friends over to ring in the new year. Lots of board games and silliness! This is going to be a great year...b/c we're going to WDW! How could it not?!? :goodvibes

I got online right away this morning and signed us up for Give a Day-Get a Day! I'm so excited! We have to drive into St. Louis (about 100 miles) to do it, but Eli lives there anyway and she'll be volunteering with us, so it will work out perfectly!

There were not a ton of opportunities with younger (under 16) kids, but I found one that looks nice. We will be making origami flowers and cards on MLK Day to be distributed to residential elderly care facilities in the area. Sounds like a worthy cause and we'll either get a ticket each or FP's for our trip. We really won't need the tickets, but I thought this would be a great opportunity to not only connect as a family and get excited for our trip but to give back to the community. We don't do it nearly enough and we should!

Hope & I haven't started walking yet b/c I'm a lazy bum and it's 11 degrees! :cold: The only indoor place in our area to walk costs money. Looks like we're going to have to bite the bullet and just bundle up. I keep saying that, but do you see me walking???

Off to petsit this morning! I hope your first morning of 2010 has started off well!

Joining your PTR cause it'S GREAT!

Planning is part of the fun for me too!

We are hoping to do a Sept. trip as well (with free dining) - if hubby can find a job - big if there.

Keep telling me all your plans so I can keep going on mine.

And the homeschool tickets are great - we don't homeschool yet but is a MAJOR option for middleschool which is a year and 1/2 a way.

PS Can you walk at the mall? We have lots of mall walkers here.

Ah, athe mall. I miss those days of living in the city. I guess I forgot to mention that we live 100 miles from the nearest mall! It's a pretty rural area and there just aren't a lot of places we can go inside to walk.

Hey Hope, we could walk at Voldemart?!?! It could be an in-your-face gesture b/c we could walk but refrain from buying anything! (which would take some will power on my part!) Do you think they would notice we were just walking in circles? :p

:cutie:Hello my friend. Sorry I have not been around much since my last trip to Disney in November and then the holidays kept me hopping. It was a great trip, and very different without having the kids with us, although I did miss them somewhat, somehow I don't think hubby shares that opinion with me! So glad you got your lens, the pix are great as usual. Actually I think I have the same table as you, I noticed it in the pic of your tree (beautiful) and then the pix of the kids - I thought they came really nice, I know what a job it is to get 6 kids to smile all at the same time - usually they are beating each other up in that close proximity!:rotfl:
Sorry to hear about Rey being suspended but I hope you are enjoying your time with him! Some days I would like to be suspended from work to stay home, but then again we like to eat - haha! As always your plans and back up plans look great! I have to start calling for ADRs for my July trip next month and I have not a clue what I am in the mood for! It's hard to plan not knowing EMH, etc. We just switched from staying at Bay Lake Tower to the Animal Kingdom at the kids request UGH:upsidedow. I'll get there someday I hope! Actually I have to go to West Palm Beach in 2 weeks to see my family. My uncle is not doing so hot, so off I go. Of course I got the call that said I should make a trip down, the day after I got home from Disney - boy did I feel bad!

Well I hope your holidays were great and a happy 2010 to you! Gina:cutie:

Well I hope Florida is warmer when I go. Today it was in the 30's. Although for you that would be like a heat wave! I subbed in on Hope's PTR so now I can keep up with the both of you! So many great ideas so little time!! As for ADR's I have some swirling in my head a must do repeat is Crystal Palace for breakfast, and Whispering Canyon for dinner can anyone say pass the ketchup! I think Ohana is in the running since we liked the luau but not paying for it again - pineapple bread is my 9 yo's new weakness. Also Boma is in the mix - me and hubby went in November and loved it, not sure how the kiddies will do, but I am sure they can make a meal out of mac and cheese and Zebra Domes. Hell I could just eat dessert myself! Also planning on Chef Mickey's this time as. Gee it does sound like I have more planned than I thought, I just have to pick the days! It so hard without knowing park hours and emh either, UGH! Plus I have to find out how to avoid parks with tour groups - I got stuck in that mess in DHS last year with the dreaded yellow and green flag people and I thought I would kill someone. I almost came to blows in a restroom but that is another story! Time to start researching!:surfweb:

Well, I found out that there were Thursday parties last Sept. but now I'm concerned that there won't be, it looks like maybe they released those nights later? Either that or the first site I found was just incorrect. AND, some Thursday's did have MNSSHP and some did not. Sept. 24th did not, but the following Thursday did, and since we are going around this time it is difficult to guess what they will do. Either way, I don't want to make all my ADR's at the end of March and then find out there isn't a party on Thursday. So....

I'm bombarding Hope with emails trying to figure out how things can be changed so it doesn't mess up her itinerary. It would be best if we did MNSSHP on Tuesday night and BB on Wednesday, the day after the party so that we could sleep in a bit (and Rey won't be going, I suspect the boys won't either) but that evening we were going to go to MK for Spectro/Wishes and we don't want to switch that with Thursday in case there IS MNSSHP b/c we will miss out on Wishes/Spectro. So, we need to make sure we have enough park days/tickets do go to MK on Wednesday after BB. I was originally planning on BB being a non-park day, but I think there are enough tickets.

Twoboysnmygirl

No, because of the Halloween party, Spectro is on limited nights. Argh...and I tried to talk to Rey about it (EPIC FAIL) and he got annoyed that we will only be at F&W on our last day. I told him this previously, but he forgot, so now he's upset all over again. The way they have F&W starting a little later this year, it makes it really difficult to fit everything in. Why did they have to mess with a good thing? :p

My poor PTR, it's not getting any attention as I'm over on Hope's PTR more than my own!

It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO cold here. Seriously. Cold. Frigid. Mind numbing (and toes too!). I've taken to searching for September 2009 trip reports and reading all about how crazy hot it was! Sounds divine right now (remind me of this when I'm complaining of the heat this summer, please!) :p

So cold and snowy that Hope and my plan to start walking has been thwarted two days in a row b/c of the road conditions. We live in a really rural area and finally figured out that we could walk in circles around the rec center gym in my town, but then the snow came and Hope has been stuck!

Looks like we will also be doing movie days once a week after our walks...surprsed by this? You must not have been following along! :lmao: I don't even know if I'll tell Rey and the boys, they are likely to have me committed!

The other day I was telling them about volunteering and I hadn't even mentioned Disney yet and Dallas says, "THIS IS SOME DISNEY THING, ISN'T IT?!?!?!" What? Are you saying I don't do anything that isn't Disney motivated????

Alright, I'm off to chat more on Hope's PTR, there's more action over there!

Making them at home would be great! There weren't any options for at home volunteering, in fact, we are driving 95 miles to do ours! We'll be making paper oragami flowers and cards for elderly in residential homes, it's worth it to get the kids out there (uh...and to get those FP's!)

Heehee! I'm so lucky to be planning this trip with Hope! She's making it so much fun! :cool1:

In addition to our walking 3x's a week, we will be doing Disney movie day once a week after walking! We're watching UP this week and will have a snack/activities that revolve around the movie. I never get to do this sort of thing b/c my boys are too "old" for it and Savannah never has anyone to do it with! I'm so excited! I'll be sure to take pics of our movie day, Hope will as well, I'm sure. Another thing we happen to share a love for is our amateur photography! We bought our camera's within a week of each other last spring and have a wonderful time comparing shots and talking photography.

I've been tweaking our itinerary more, trying to squeeze in as many visits to WS as possible for Rey. He's not too happy that he will only get 1 day at F&W and that it will be opening day and probably packed, but it's just another reason to come back in 2011, right?!?!? (oh yes, you KNOW I've already been looking into it.)

Oh nothing big, I was going to switch our Biergarten ADR for our Park Fare and hit Epcot WS on Sunday evening after Park Fare (so that there was less time eating at WS and more time actually getting to see stuff) but I decided to just let it be and go to WS on Monday night AND Thursday night after Park Fare if we are up to it. AND we'll be there all day Friday...so I'm hoping that's enough time for him. He would stay at Boardwalk and spend the whole trip at Epcot if he could! :rolleyes1

Oh and I decided that we will do a later (7ish) ADR at Chef's on Friday and use our snack credits for lunch at F&W. The later on in the evening on opening day, the busier it will get, so I thought starting off with the F&W stuff and then doing dinner at Chefs later when it's really gotten busy will work best! :D

Hi Janine! I just saw your night time pic on your PTR from 2008, it's so pretty! We only got a couple night shots, once at MNSSHP (when Rey & Dylan weren't with us) and one with Rey & I at Epcot. I'm going to try and remember to get a night shot of us all in front of the castle next time. I'm STILL waiting on the pics. I did a photopass share (never again!) and after emailing her last week saying I was beginning to wonder if it was all a scam, she said it was being mailed. Still haven't gotten it though. :confused3

Which would you choose? Rental car or WDW buses????

I'm so torn. Money IS an object in this case, but I have this little niggling telling me to add 200-300$ to the budget to rent a vehicle for the trip. This far out it COULD be done, I'm just not sure if it's necessary.

Background: First trip Savannah & I went with my friend and her dd. We flew in and used Disney transport the whole trip. I did NOT really like it. :confused3 My friend seemed to love it, so I tried to relax and see what all the fuss was about, but it seemed that we were always WAITING (this is a dirty word to me, I'm very bad about waiting) and then we were packed on buses most of the time, standing at night when we were tired, etc. I also felt a little out of sorts and turned around b/c I couldn't tell where we were or where we were headed.

Second trip we drove and stayed offsite. First off, let me tell you, that drive was BRUTAL. We've done road trips to Texas, my husband is a truck driver for cryin' out loud, but 2 days of driving with 3 kids in our SUV that doesn't have comfy seats was horrid. On our way home I remember repeating over and over how our next trip we would be flying. And so we are!

But, staying offsite and having our vehicle was wonderful! I can tell you that it took about the same time or less to drive from the offsite house and get to a park as it did when we were onsite. I loved being able to sit down and relax, I even liked seeing where we were and looking at Disney go by in the car. Lots of people say that there's no magic in it, and no magic in staying offsite and that they get sad when they see that sign each day, but I loved it and it made it seem MORE magical.

I'm rambling. Sorry! :p

So, why are we even staying onsite you wonder? Well, Rey & the boys have never done it, FREE DINING, and the only issue we had with staying offsite was that the boys did not last as long as us at the parks. Had we been onsite they could have taken a bus back to our resort and we didn't have to drive them back and forth. I think the buses will be great for that this trip.

Have I totally lost you? I'm just not sure if we should shell out the money for a rental or not. It seems to me that staying onsite with a rental car would save SO much money and I'm thinking that by the end of the week Rey will really hate the buses. We did take one just for the fun of it last trip and everyone seemed to like it, but that was just one ride in the middle of the afternoon. They have no idea what the closing of a park is like or standing 20 minutes for a bus when you have an ADR and could have been there already!

I should add that Savannah loves the buses and will be annoyed if we get a car but I'm guessing we will use disney transport some of the time still and she'll be happy with that. Here she is on the last trip when she BEGGED to take the bus from DHS to Epcot instead of a ferry...just for fun.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/WDW20093099a.jpg

EDITED LATER TO ADD: I think I've decided what to do. I don't want the extra cost of a BIG rental (since there are 6 of us) to the trip, but I don't want to feel like I'm at the mercy of WDW transport either if I don't have to be. So, I'm going to budget 100$ for cabs. I believe that will be 4 cab rides during the trip and then I won't feel so stuck.

After dinner at Ohana and watching Wishes, I have interest in taking the monorail back to MK and standing in a huge line for a bus, so this would be one of the times that we would use a cab. I think this is a good compromise and if I don't use it all, I'll spend it on souvenirs!!!

Hi Karen,

Been lurking for a while - read your "Off with their heads" trip report and am now following your PTR. We are planning a family trip to WDW immediately following you guys - 10/2 - 10/9/10.

I read about your dilemma with the MNSSHP dates for 2010 and wanted to share with you what I have learned about the 2010 dates so far. According to the 2010 crowd calendar on the Unofficial Guide's web site MNSSHP is scheduleld for: 9/24, 9/26; 9/28, 9/30 and 10/1.

Now I don't know how "official" or set in stone these dates are - but the Unofficial Guide is pretty thorough and I'd bank that there dates were pretty accurate.

Oh, I also remember reading somewhere that there is usually a "soft" opening for the Food and Wine Festival. Meaning that many ( if not all) food booths will be open and operating several days before the published opening date. So the gal you spoke with on the phone that thought it should still be open on the 24th is probably correct. I'm sure this news will make Rey very, very, happy.

As I said, we will be in WDW in October. Staying off site at Windsor Hills with my 2 ds ages 6 & 10 at that time. First visit for the 6yo - 10 yo visited back when he was 3 1/2 so it will be practically new to him as well!!

Oh - and I can totally understand your OCD trip planning!! I am exactly the same way! I love the planning part! It adds to the excitement and plus - vacations are special and I don't want to waste any precious time trying to decide where to go and when to do it!! Or get home and realized we missed something really cool!

Welcome!!! :cool1: So you'll be arriving the day we are leaving! I saw that UG had MNSSHP listed for those dates but I'm hesitant to trust them, they have the F&W dates incorrect so I'm just not sure. I do know that they always have them on Tuesday's, so since I found a way to make it work in my itinerary I thought it would be safer to plan for the Tuesday.

As for the soft opening, I made sure we were at Epcot on Thursday as well, I read that they almost always have a soft opening the day before. Hope will be there that day as well, so maybe she'll get to experience it a bit without all the crowds! :)

Have you stayed at Winsor Hills before? I've heard only good things about it! Our house wasn't in Winsor Hills, but pretty close from the neighborhood maps I've seen. I think you will be even closer to the parks than we were, which will put you REALLY close! I hope you do a TR when you get back as I'll be in full fledge WDW depression after returning home, by that time!

Ohiovolfan~ I just went and double checked the Sept. crowd calendar for UG and you are right, they have changed the MNSSHP dates and taken AWAY the F&W dates! It's not listed at all, I'm guessing b/c there has been no official announcement about the date change for F&W. They better get all this together before my 180 days, I hate guessing! :sad2:

Karen,

Perhaps we'll cross paths at the airport!! After reading your first TR I would recognize your crew instantly!!

I love to plan but sometimes it drives me crazy as I cram my head full of so much information that it makes it literally impossible to make a decision!! I was on the boards yesterday and stumbled across a thread discussing how you should avoid WDW the week before and after Columbus day because of the Holiday and many of the Southern schools have fall break those weeks! So then I start debating whether we should reschedule our trip...UGH. But the crowd calender on UG has all those weeks listed as a 4 (which is the lowest rating they give ANY week) so I figure just go with it!

We haven't stayed at Windsor Hills before but are looking forward to it! With my two boys the extra room is always a necessity! They are psyched because their room has a PS2!! Plus - for the price you can't beat it! 2 beds, 2 baths, kitchen, washer/dryer for $525.00 a week! Compare it to the costs of staying on property and you can't beat it. I admit that the DP definitely had me thinking about staying on property though.....but for right now the extra room won! Maybe later when the boys are older and can use the WDW transportation on their own when needed we will rethink staying on property. Of course my problem is that if we did stay on property I would have my heart set on the Poly or AKL! LOL.....typical - champagne taste on a beer budget!!

We actually drove over to the Windsor Hills entrance 2 weeks ago. We were in Florida visiting the in-laws in Sarasota and drove over on Saturday 1/2/10 to Disney. We played putt putt at Winter/Summer Land and then met up with my neice and her dh at DTD. Wow - DTD was packed!! Sooo packed that it wasn't even fun! However we did manage a delicious lunch at Fulton's!

OK - enough for now! DS 9 is pestering me to help with his reading homework!

I FINALLY got my photopass pics from our 2009 Off With Their Heads trip!!! :cool1:

I'm not sure I will ever do another photopass share, that's for sure! I know they don't do them anymore on the DIS, and I know why now. I did mine on the TGM site and it seemed very on the up-in-up and organized. It only cost me 15$, so I figured if I got ripped off, it was worth it. Well, it took FOREVER for the person in charge to get them out, as you can see, it's Jan. 12th and our trip was at the end of October!

I'm pretty sure I will do photopass again b/c it's the only way I can get in any of the shots! Some of them aren't the best quality and the family could have cooperated more, but overall I was pleased with them. Wow, you sure can tell that I was eating poorly though b/c by the end of the week when Rey & I had out pic together I look like I've gained 10 pounds!

I did lots of borders, B&W, cropping, etc.(there were a few times I really wanted just our immediate family, so I cropped Rey's parents and sister out! I'm awful! I did crop THEM in some of them as well, so they could have some individual pics too) and there are TONS of them, more than I remembered. Rey's mom clearly doesn't realize that she's not much taller than her daughter! so she's hiding behind her in quite a few shots! :p Here are 20 or so that were my favorites: (yes 20! Don't you know me by now?!?!?)

Movie Day! I know, I'm on a roll today with the updates, right?!?!? :D

Today Hope & I met for our first day of walking and movie day! We met at the rec center and walked for a little over 30 minutes (I think, right Hope?) It was a good start. I ran a few laps before Hope got there and my lungs were hurting by the time we got done walking. It's been a while! At least we have over 8 months to get in shape! :)

We headed to my house (2 minutes from the rec center) for our UP Movie Day! Hope outdid herself, I should have known! :lovestruc They made balloon cupcakes and had an activity book and an Adventure Book with badges to make. They had a good time, I got some pics, although Jace is only in one b/c that boy can MOVE! All the shots I took of him were blurry!

We watched the movie, I cried (again) and then the kids played for a while before Hope had to leave. It was a great day!

Here are the pics:

Kya & Savannah (I LOVE this picture)

Hi Karen!

Thank you for sharing pictures of your UP night. It looks like you had a lot of fun. I also wanted to thank you for doing this pre-trip report. Even though I don't know you personally, you've made me feel like a part of your trip planning and that has been really wonderful for me. No one around me understands the Disney obsession!

Thanks Ann! :lovestruc

It makes me feel good as well that there is someone out there reading and enjoying! (sometimes I feel like I'm talking to myself!...which wouldn't be anything new anyway!) No one really gets my WDW obsession either, so it's nice to share it here on the DIS with like minds! ;)

How are you doing? Is it cold where you are? We're going to warm into the 40s today and I think it will feel like a heatwave compared to what it's been like lately!

Victoriasmom98
01-13-2010, 08:46 AM
Is it cold here? Yeah...it's 9 degrees today with a windchill of minus something....ugh! I don't believe we will be getting a January thaw! That's ok...just think --- the tulips should start poking up in March! Late March...maybe! :rotfl2: I'm doing ok. Actually not really, so I've been escaping to my happy place ---- the Dis boards! Just waiting on my W-2's from work so that I can file my taxes and get my refund to put the money on my Disney trip. It's just been a really rough winter so far, as I'm sure you know with your own money issues....but anyways, enough about depressing stuff.....WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY IN SEPTEMBER...YEAH!!!!!

Twoboysnmygirl

That's a spirit! It's been a hard winter so far for me as well, how about we cheer each other up. I'm always better at cheering someone else up than myself.

Money is getting really tight as the month of Rey being home progresses! He goes back next Friday, which is good for income, but I'll miss him! It's been so nice with him here, I think my winter blues would have been worse had he not been here. I'm a little worried about how down I'll be once he leaves though. Hopefully his W2 will come as well soon, he didn't buy his truck until March, so we have to include that in our taxes. We're just hoping to not have to pay!

Victoriasmom98
01-13-2010, 09:05 AM
It's a deal --- we'll cheer each other up!! I've never had to pay in to the IRS, being a single mom with income under $40,000, I still qualify for Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and some child care as she's still under 12. But, money's been tight as I work for the state government and our raises have been frozen for 2 years due to the economy and we now have to pay a percentage of our health insurance, which we never had to previously. We also have to take 13 unpaid days off per year now. I know, I know --- I am very fortunate to still have a job and one which offers health insurance. But my mortgage has gone from $422 (which I know was FANTASTIC!) to $800 per month. That's quite an adjustment if you are used to having that extra money! Ok, ok....I need to shut up now......Rey's been out of work for a while now and you know exactly what I mean! And you have 3 kids!! So, I should just take my big girl pill and deal with it! OH, I did get my mini M&M container filled and my cards for the veterans for Give a Day/Get a Day are done and on their way to the volunteer coordinator. :thumbsup2

Yes, it will be just about identical to this one with the dark blue betas. We are getting married on the beach at the ocean (bless the coast of Maine) so I thought this would be perfect. I just need to find friends around here to adopt the betas once I'm done. It will just be a small wedding of about 100, so I'm figuring on 13 tables so 13 betas.

I LOVE those Ann!! A wedding on the beach sounds heavenly. :lovestruc

You shouldn't have a lot of trouble finding people to take the betas- they are such cool fish and really easy to care for when paired with a plant. We had one a long time ago, when Jace was about 3. He couldn't understand why he couldn't put his hands in the bowl to pet it so the poor thing didn't last long. :sad2: Come to think of it he's still kind of that way- he is constantly on the floor petting my mom's cats and gets his feelings hurt when they want to be left alone.

Walked with Hope again yesterday and really enjoyed it. It's nice to have someone to talk to, it changes the whole experience of exercising! :p

I made a decision on the renting a car issue! I decided that we probably wouldn't want to use it the whole time and it would just cost too much since there are 6 of us. Instead, I'm going to budget about 100-125$, which should cover 4-5 cabs during our trip. I have an idea of when we will need them (later at night after Ohana/Wishes, for example) but this way I won't be spending as much money will won't feel completely at the mercy of Disney transport. If we are late for something we can hop in a cab, etc.

We have a pretty quiet weekend and then we are headed to O'fallon, 95 miles from here, to volunteer for King Day! I'm really looking forward to it and just need to make sure I budget my gas money wisely this weekend, things are tight since we are coming to the end of Rey's suspension. He leaves out Friday! WAH! I thought I would be happy but I've gotten used to him being here, it will be an ajustment all over again.

Oh and in case you think I'm rambling more than usual, I had coffee at mom's night out last night and couldn't sleep. I think I'm STILL wired and it's 7am and I'm ready for my morning coffee!

I agree that exercising is completely different when you have someone to talk to- especially since we spend so much time talking about Disney!! :lmao:

We did GAD today! I didn't realize it, but today was the perfect day to give to others and volunteer. I really think we should do this every year and more often.

We did our volunteer work in O'fallon, Missouri, which is about 95 miles from where we live. My mom lives in St. Louis though, so we went in early and had a nice lunch with her. Lunch with my mom was wonderful. She told stories about her father and her grandfather to us, something she has never done, and I really loved that time spent with her. Before we knew it, lunch was over and we headed to O'fallon.

Rey was teasing me (uh, nothing new) so he didn't read that we were supposed to be at the municipal building, but just the address, which I couldn't find. After driving in a small circle, we found the building. Dylan got nervous when he saw all the families headed into the building and although later he said it was just b/c he was wanting to use his phone, I think he WAS nervous about volunteering.

Hope arrived and we all headed in. It was GREAT to see all the people voluneering! We stood in a short line and they checked off our names and had Rey & I sign as the adults present and then we went in and chose what we would do. There were card tables and flower tables and also a table where they were putting together identification packets for something (that didn't seem to relate to the residential facilies) We chose flowers!

It looked intimidating at first b/c there were just piles of different colored tissue paper and pipe cleaners. HOW could we make flowers from that??? Hope's family sat with us, so we had a table all to ourselves! Don't worry, we only talked about you a little! :rolleyes1

The room filled up, which was great to see, and they explained what we would be doing and showed us how to make the flowers. It's a learning process! :p I feel bad for the people who get those first few flowers before we figured out exactly what we were doing!

My camera was giving me a LOT of trouble, the colors seem messed up, at first everything was washed out and too bright and then when I adjusted, everything turned REALLY pink/red! I don't know if the colors from the tissue paper were reflecting or if the vivid setting on my camera with those florescent lights did it, but I didn't have many keepers. You'll see them below.

Anyway, we had a wonderful time, Dylan did finally come in and help and I really think that Disney has done something wonderful here. Yes, I know they are a company that wants to get people to come to WDW, but I think they also knew that when you get people to volunteer and see how wonderful it is for the community, they will want to do it again. I know that I do! The kids enjoyed it more than they thought they would and it was such great familiy time! I can't say enough about it.

Here are some of the (crappy) pics...
This is part of the room we were in. I would guess there were 70+ people there

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/kingday157a-1.jpg

After the break, the kids all wanted to switch and make cards, but I wasn't going to! I was having fun with the flowers! So, the kids went by themselves over to the card table and they let them make cards! Savannah really loved this.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/kingday179a.jpg

Ohhh, that face! Do you think she is sick of Mom's camera???
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/kingday180a.jpg

At about 3:30 they announced that although we were supposed to stay from 1-5pm, we had all done so well that we had exceeded the 500 cards and 500 flowers that they had wanted to make! That was a great feeling as well and we ended up leaving around 3:45.

I wish that they had more opportunities to volunteer in our area. I've done the animal shelters, but there aren't things like this in this area, or at least none I have seen. I was even thinking that it might be an optiong to ORGANIZE something like this and get our own community involved. Regardless of where we did the volunteering, it was so worth the gas and time to drive in. I am looking forward to doing it again! :goodvibes

I think Jace was upset with himself when he had his head down because he tried to do something creative with a flower that didn't work out... such a perfectionist. The pics when they moved over to make cards are funny! Kya and Savannah both look like they'd like to strangle you with your camera strap!

A Bugs Life!

If you have already read Hope's PTR it's repeat day for you!

We started off the day meeting at the park to walk! Yes, we've hit our January thaw and it was about 50 yesterday so we decided to take advantage of it. I know it won't stay that way for long! Grph.

After walking at the park and sitting while the girls played a rousing game of hide/spy on Mom, we headed to my house! The girls put bug stickers all over their faces and then tricked us by going to the bathroom to fix them and then deciding we would just take more pictures so removing almost all of them before coming out. :p

I have like 16 pictures, I couldn't reduce it more than I already did. You'll just have to humor me! ;)

This is a Mom-you-are-annoying-me face:
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/bugslifeday019a.jpg

Kya is so photogenic, I LOVE taking pictures of her! Now she doesn't just have her mom taking her pic all the time but me too. Poor girl.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/bugslifeday022a.jpg

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/bugslifeday037a.jpg

The girls made antenna headbands with pipe cleaners and golf balls, they had a great time and it was pretty cute! I would have never thought of this.

My little bug...
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/bugslifeday096a.jpg

Did they eat or paint their bugs after that???? Maybe I should go over and read Hope's PTR again to find out! :p I'll just have to guess, for the life of me I can't rememeber! I have short term memory issues, I like to joke about it but it probably won't be funny as I get older. It's ok though b/c I doubt I'll REMEMBER! :lmao:

So, they painted egg cartons to make catipillars. I remember doing this in school! I think they liked mixing the paint the most.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/bugslifeday107a.jpg

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/bugslifeday129a.jpg

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/bugslifeday142a.jpg

Then they ate (I think!) See, if I weren't TALKING the whole time with Hope, I might have paid more attention, but once you get me started, I just go and go...maybe that's why I can't remember anything, I'm too busy listening to myself!

Hope made the cutest snacks! Apple ladybugs with chocolate plus spiders and beetles(were those beetles?) with peanut butter, crackers, apples, & pretzels. They were cute and the girls ate them ALL!

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/bugslifeday041a.jpg

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/bugslifeday003a.jpg

Savannah thought it was amusing to eat bugs made of other stuff, I think partially b/c she identifies herself as a vegetarian and partially b/c she usually won't eat pb & crackers...apparently if they look like bugs, she will! :p

Kya is off in lala land in this pic, I wonder what she was thinking about??? ;)
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/bugslifeday190a.jpg

After eating the girls didn't want to watch the movie?!?!?! What? So, I had printed out a little activity book and they did that for a while and then played a little in Savannah's room
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/bugslifeday004a.jpg

Eventually they came around and watched! I got about halfway through and was getting tired of it, so Hope & I sat in the kitchen and talked while they finished watching it. We had a fun, buggy day! Looking forward to next week, we'll be doing it on Mondays from here on out. No clue what movie Hope is choosing!

-Hope-

Great shots! Most of mine with them making the headbands came out blurry! Lots of my shots of Savannah came out blurry yesterday. Jace wasn't there so she was taking on the role of 'child in constant motion'.

It's funny that you say that about taking Kya's picture because I do the same thing with Savannah- I get home and look at my pics and notice I have more pictures of her than my own kid! :rotfl:

I don't know what I'm choosing next week either! I have to look at my list of ideas ands see what I can pull off!

Yay!!!!! I think?!?!?!? :confused3

So yesterday I sit down to check my email and see there is one for our other email that used to be my sons. I registered on the WDW site with 3 different emails trying to get on their PIN code list and it worked. I had previously gotten a 20% off code. So, I opened the email and BAM! I see it says: Get FREE* Dining! in big letters and I skim and see the dates are for fall and started yelling across the house! I think Rey thought something bad had happened!

THEN I read the fine print. It's free QUICK SERVICE dining. This is during the normal free dining dates they usually have (mid august to beginning of Oct) and my heart dropped.

Don't get me wrong, free dining of any sort is great, but we can't utilize quick service well b/c I can't eat at most of the CS places. We will HAVE to upgrade to the ddp for it to be worth it. It's $420 to do that, which is STILL great to get all your food for 6 people, but just a little disappointing.

What's worse is that I believe that other people on the code board got REGULAR ddp b/c they were staying or showed interest in moderates & deluxes, so this makes me think that even when they do release to the public, it will be Quick Service for values and ddp for moderates/deluxes.

I've run the numbers and we're better off enjoying ASMU than trying to do a moderate for the free ddp. If there were 4 or 5 of us, it would work out to do moderate, but once you hit 6 there are really limited places or you need 2 rooms. Fort Wilderness was a brief thought, but to be honest, I LIVE in the wilderness, I don't need to vacation there too! :lmao: Besides, for the kids I think it will be more fun to be in a value with the theme.

I did go back on the WDW site and price some moderates and save them in hopes that I will get the ddp code, but it's a longshot. My email did NOT say that I was being offered quick service just b/c I was at a value, it said at select resorts. Hopefully they will release in March that there will be free ddp for all, but it seems silly to send out pin codes to a select few for quick service just to release ddp for free to the public. Everyone would just call up and switch???

So anyway, I did call up and change my reservation and it was nice to hear that number drop dramatically! We will be saving a great deal of money and since Rey and I agree that this will probably be the only time we stay onsite for a long time and "try out" a lot of the TS places, then free dining is the way to go! Then we'll know our favorites (already have some!) and we can stay offsite in a house. Staying onsite is something imperative right now though with the teens not driving, etc.

Ok, I'm rambling now!

So, I got KINDA Free dining!!! :thumbsup2 I figure kinda-free dining is better than NO free dining!

I'm hoping Hope (teehee) doesn't hate me for dragging her into this free dining mess. We knew it might not be offered or altered in some way but I think we thought that we would get free ddp. Now we'll have to wait until the end of March to see what they release I guess!

BTW (too lazy to compose an email and since I'm here...I MAY need you to pick up Savannah & I today. Rey got a small side job for the morning unloading for his company but he should be back. If he's not I would need a ride. If it weren't pouring, we would walk, but it is! Can you call me at like 10:45 and see if I need a ride or if he's gotten back?

Hope and I walked today for over 45 minutes! :goodvibes

While we walked, we talked ALL DISNEY (I'm sure this surprises you.) At first I really freaked out about getting the Quick Service dining free offer, but I think I'm going to like it more! :cool1:

I know, how quickly I change my tune when backed in a corner! :rotfl2:

We are still going to do 3 TS meals at Biergarten (a must for Rey), Tusker House (a must for me) and 1900 Park Fare (so we can have 1 character meal that I think everyone will enjoy). This will cost a bit oop (ok, more than a bit!) but we will save on tips that we won't be paying for those TS that we aren't doing anymore, we'll save b/c the refillable mugs are included, and we will have a TON of food more than if we had done the regular ddp.

It will also give us more freedom and spontaneity, something Rey complains we don't have enough of! Of course, I know all the CS places I would like to go and can eat at and will plan on which ones we will go to, but Rey will still get to feel spontaneous! :p

So, now that I'm sold on the QS free dining with a few oop TS thrown in, I'm going to get mad if they offer the regular ddp for free! It will be hard b/c it will be less food but save a little (not too much) and I don't want to have to make that choice!

I'll type up my new itinerary later, I figure eventually it will be perfect with all the changes I keep making!

Hey Karen, I'm not understanding this right now.......(big surprise there!) So, are you saying that the DDP would be less food but save a little or that the QS would be less food but save a little? I would think that the QS is a lot less food, but I can see where it would save ALOT of money due to the tips. I guess I just haven't crunched the numbers myself to see which would work out better. I figure even though let's say the DDP would be offered for free, there's $10 tip per ts meal x 10 days then I would have to buy 2 resort mugs at $15 each. So, there's $130 with the DDP offered for free. Now with the QS being offered for free, the mugs would be included and I wouldn't have to tip. But that also leaves us with no definite dining plans, not knowing where we would eat, etc......But, then, I've never had any table service meals at Disney and I really think I would enjoy that experience. Ok, you and Hope decide and then let me know!! ;)

I guess it's not actually less food with the ddp but there are more opportunities to eat more often with QSD. The extra snack credits make it feel that way. With 2 snacks and 2 CS, we can utilize them better. But, I guess it's all in the planning.

I think by adding a few OOP TS meals, the Quick service works out to be perfect for us and plenty of food and I love that there are more snack credits b/c we would use them at F&W. I also love that I feel like I've freed up all this time! Instead of a couple hours for a TS and waiting to be seated, etc. we can go where we want.

As for tips, I added up what we would pay for each of the 4 TS meals on ddp we would have added (we will still do 3, so I didn't count those!) and then multiplied each meal by 18% tip b/c there are 6 of us and we will automatically be charged 18% for tips (which is fine with me, this is what we would pay either way). Anyway, the tips were WAY more than 10$ a TS meal. The cheapest was 21$ and the most expensive was 37$! Then the mugs as well for 6 of us would have been almost 90$. It's still a little more money out of pocket to do the QSD for free than DDP for FREE, BUT...it is not cheaper than upgrading. If we were to upgrade it would be 420$ more PLUS more tips, PLUS those mugs. So, OOP for a few meals with the QSD will work.

Unless they release DDP for FREE, then I'll have a conundrum! The DDP free would be cheaper but I'm not sure if anyone at a value in the general public will be offered the ddp this fall. It seems they are leaning towards tiered dining with QSD offered to the Values.

Since I have dietary issues being a vegan, I'm pouring over the CS menu's and I already have a pretty good idea of where we will eat for our CS meals. I will most likely leave a few open as a "choice" for Rey, for example when we are at Epcot around dinner on a certain night we can eat at Tangierene Cafe or Italy's new CS place (I think it's going to be pizza?) Anyway, that's just an example, but I'll have it set up so I have a general idea of what CS's we will do.

Hope I haven't lost you!! I know my rambling can sometimes lose focus and do more damage than good! :p

I need to escape in my PTR for a bit. Rey left today, which is nice b/c he's finally gone back to work, but I'm sad he's gone and just as I expected, as soon as he left I realized a couple bills that will automatically come out of our account next week that I don't have money for. It's only going to get worse for the next couple weeks until the money starts coming back in. I had to call my mom and borrow a couple hundred dollars to cover it. Sigh.

Enough of that! I was supposed to be ESCAPING here!

So, I have my FREE Quick Service Dining all planned out and I think I like it more! Lots of new CS places to try out and 3 TS meals OOP make it seem very well rounded to me. I'm excited!!!! Here's what I have right now...

Yep, I'm looking forward to it! I really struggle with CS at MK b/c they don't have many vegan options. We are already eating at Columbia Harbor House, which I'm looking forward to, but I've eaten at Cosmic Rays twice now and really wasn't wanting to eat there again, so I thought we could go to Contempo and then just hop the monorail to MK for MNSSHP! :wizard:

 We are contagious to each other!

So, a new issue has arisen that I will have to find a solution to. A few months ago when I was mentioning flying, Dylan joked about how he didn't want to fly. Or maybe it wasn't joking???

We were talking the other day and he flat out said he didn't want to fly. He's afraid of heights and does NOT want to get on a plane. Dylan is turning 16 this summer, but he's an unusual 16 year old. He doesn't care much what other people think, he's VERY headstrong, but not afraid to tell people what he's afraid of. He did NOT like most of the rides at WDW b/c of the g-force and drops. He won't even go on Pirates again b/c of the drop and hates TT. Soarin was the only thing he didn't mind.

Anywho...there have been a couple times in the past where he was scared of doing something and just FLAT OUT REFUSED to do it. No coaxing, threatening, or rationalizing would work. If you tell him he will be grounded, he says, "Ok, ground me.". Also, these situations are always spur of the moment. We get there and BAM, he won't get out of the car, etc.

This terrifies me b/c what if we get to the airport and he refuses to get on the plane??? I can't drag him, he's a big boy, and it would ruin the whole trip if this happened. I can talk to him for the next 8 months, but there is NOTHING to ensure that he won't panic and refuse at the last minute. We have talked about phobias and I am hoping to have him look up some info on fear of flying, but I have to have some alternatives.

Here is what I've come up with: We buy the tickets, we talk about it, I talk to my mom privately (she is driving us to the airport) and arrage with her that IF the worst happens and he freaks, he can just go home with her and stay with her for the week. :sad2: This is not optimal b/c we not only will have spent money on his tickets and airfare, but it won't be the same without him. This is our first family trip with Eli and just US. I'm sure we would have fun still and he would be fine with my mom, but it would be a cloud over the whole trip.

The second option I presented to Rey and he's thinking about it. It would cost the same amount of money to use their airfare money (Rey's and Dylans) and have them leave the day before and drive. Rey is a truck driver, so the distance (17 hours...that's not including stops) wouldn't bother him, they could sleep with the seats reclined, AND, a bonus would be that we would have a car onsite. No more fretting about being at the mercy of the buses. It would also make packing and bringing stuff easier. We can't ALL drive b/c although we would fit, it would be MISERABLE with 3 teens side-by-side and Savannah cramped in the back. There is also the issue that we couldn't get just 1 motel room b/c there are 6 of us and we would have 2 more days of food for 6 people during this drive. We spent SO much money driving last trip that I realized it would be about the same amount to fly.

Ugh. Anyway, I have a friend that told me I just need to tell him to face his fear and basically "be a man" about it, but I don't think it's just about that. I have adult friends that have fear of flying and it is a REAL fear them. I'm not sure he'll be able to do it. AND, what if he does get on the plane and we have turbulence or something and then on the trip back he refuses to get on??? Then what???

-Hope-
01-23-2010, 09:33 AM
I think the option of him and Rey driving down togethere sounds like a good plan. I know its not ideal but it is better than leaving him behind.

I'm not afraid to fly but, as you know, I do have some irrational phobias. No amount of reasoning, self talk, etc. turns off those fears. The thing is that it is worse when something is unexpected- remember how I reacted to Lucky when I didn't know he was there? (for those following along Lucky was our friend's rat) I could be in the room with him once I knew he was there- I didn't like it but I could tolerate it. BUT that first time, when I had no idea I was FREAKED out- I felt sick, sweaty and my eyes were watering. If your flight is uneventful he'd probably be fine but any surprises, like storms or turbulence, could be bad for him.

Twoboysnmygirl
01-23-2010, 09:41 AM
Right! Unexpected! AND, the whole THING will be unexpected since he's never flown (well, he was 2 and doesn't remember). At first I was thinking maybe it would be good for him to face his fear and do this or that we could get him some Valium or a drink??? :rolleyes1 but I'm just not sure that would work either. It just makes it a little harder to have Rey & him drive. I keep going back and forth and I'm unsure but I'll have to decide when it's time to book flights!

3princesses+aprince
01-25-2010, 09:01 AM
Honestly, a fear a flying is a very serious thing. For someone to say that he should face his fears, just doesn't understand a fear so strong. If you really think about a plane...... An enormous tin can that is supposed to keep you up above the clouds, safely? Now, to most people without a fear can say, yes, they are safe, they fly everyday. But to some one with a fear, that certainly sounds like a nightmare, right? :headache:

I think your idea of having him drive with someone else is the best option, especially if he has refused things in the past. Can you imagine being there and not being able to get him back on the plane. And if you had to leave him behind, i'm sure you would feel bad. I'd go with the drive, this way, you have nothing to worry about and neither does he. We actually looked into the autotrain last night because Emily told me she does not want to fly. She didn't enjoy it in May, neither did my stepson, so.... who knows!

Victoriasmom98
01-25-2010, 09:35 AM
I have to agree with Hope and Pam. The best (not ideal) idea is to have him and Rey drive down together. Like you said, you'd have a vehicle there so that would be convenient --- not at the mercy of the buses. And it takes the "what if" factor out of it. ;)

Twoboysnmygirl
01-25-2010, 09:58 AM
Pam & Ann, thank you so much for your input! I agree with you, I think it would be EASIER to fly, but not if he freaks out. I want him to know that we aren't going to force him to do something he's terrified of, so hopefully Rey will agree to driving. I'm pretty sure he will...that means I don't have to factor in cab money at all and we'll have the car! :woohoo:

PixieDustPrincess05
01-25-2010, 09:38 PM
I agree with everyone else- see if you can talk him into it at first, and if not, see if Rey will do it. Making him get on that plane is easier said than done, as a lot of people are terried of flying :scared1:!!! If you cannot coax him into it by the time you are ready to purchase your plane tix, I would have the backup driving plan available. I see you are going to be there in September as well- awesome there are soo many of us going!!!! Are you staying at Pop too?

Monsters Inc. Movie Day!

Well, kind of a movie day. :p We didn't actually WATCH the movie! All the kids had seen it and the girls just wanted to play after we did our activity.

After we went walking, we came back to my house and made door & eye cookies! I thought I had sugar and I didn't, so when I got to the store and saw that sugar was the same price as just buying the cookie dough premade, I jumped on it! Call me lazy if you please! It's the truth! ;)

After rolling out the dough and cutting out rectangles for the doors and circles for the eyes, we baked them up pretty quickly. The girls decorated theirs while Jace had fun (hopefully!) playing a little Rock Band with Dallas.

The girls printed out a picture of Boo's door and it had flowers on it, so they were determined to put flowers on theirs. Very cute and simple thing to do that didn't cost a fortune (which is important right now!)

Here are a couple pics of them decorating...
I printed out a little activity book as well, but it was HARD to find Monsters Inc stuff? Next week will be easier b/c I think I already have some stuff saved on my computer. What's next weeks movie, you ask? Well, you have to look through my pictures before I'll tell you! I'm not above bribery!

Hey Karen!!!

I just booked last week and our dates are 9/20-9/25 at POP. All Star Music is a great place as well, very big and bright, and the Broadway secition looks very cute in pictures I have seen- I have stayed in the Cowboy boots and the Calypso buildings there. I don't think it will be too hot at the end of Sept- and if it is, at least the crowds won't be as bad.

I read your last TR and loved it!!!! Maybe you, Pam, and Ann can get together for a DIS meet if you are there at the same time!!!

I'll be prepared in September with misting fans and a lot of pool and water park time!!

Oh boy!!! The heat sure does sound good right about now. I'm preparing myself now to go out into the damn cold! Although I think it's going to be up near around 28 today, so that's better than yesterday!

I'll be prepared in September with misting fans and a lot of pool and water park time!!

The heat DOES sound great right now! I would rather be sweating in the sun than freezing in the snow like I am today.

Have fun dress shopping Pam! Can't wait to see what you pick!!! :goodvibes

Hmmmm, lots of reviewing things and a big blip that might change things. Rey was talking to Eli yesterday (my step-daughter) and she said she wasn't really sure if she wanted to go to WDW with us.

She's 14 and has a lot going on, she was saying that she didn't want to miss her mom's bday (this is the day we leave) but her mom was fine with it. We could change our dates, but something tells me she would either feel forced into a corner b/c she wouldn't have an excuse if we did that. I don't want to make her go if she doesn't want to, but feel like we have limited years that the kids are going to be going places with us, Dylan will be able to DRIVE this year! It blows my mind.

Anyway, I'm heading in the wrong direction...if she doesn't go, this changes a few things. First off, we don't need the suite, although I love that they are in a preferred location and that Rey & I would have a private room. Is this worth 200$?

Then there is the issue of more ADRs. I could upgrade to ddp but no matter how I work the numbers/itinerary, it doesn't seem to fit or please me. ddp is too many TS meals and not enough QSD. QSD has no TS meals and we want some. Of course, this leads me right back to paying OOP for some TS meals, but it just seems like a LOT of money to save 200$ for a single meal! It's crazy. Throw in tips and mugs and I'm all over the place.

We have movie day today, HAUNTED MANSION!!!! :woohoo: Hope & I will walk first though and I'll pick her brain for ideas on what to do. If they would just offer ddp for values, I would be ok, but I'm almost certain they won't and even with just 5 of us, we can't fit at any of the mods except POR and there isn't much about that resort that seems to interest me. I LOVE the theming of the values. Argh! Yup, that's me with my aggravated pirate voice. pirate:

If you have any words of wisdom, bring it on! I need all the help I can, it all seems to just unravel in my brain.

Back later with pictures of HM Movie Day!!

Oooo, Haunted Mansion movie day!! My girls will LOVE that. I can't wait to see what you guys do! It will give me some more ideas! I know for HM night for us we're going to eat in the dark with candles flickering on the table.

As for your dilemma? I don't know! I know to save ourselves money we decided not to upgrade to DDP. We'll stay where we are. Which is nice too because I won't have to worry about having 300-400 dollars worth of tips on me. For a family of 6 to eat, even though free, the tip is still going to be a big one.
That is a bummer too, that your stepdaughter doesn't want to come. I'm afraid that Anthony may say that this year. I don't know what we would do if that happened. He hasn't said anything yet, and i know he'll enjoy another Disney trip ,but he will be 14 as well in August, so who knows?

Yesterday was Haunted Mansion Movie Day!

Hope & Kya came, Jace (Hope's son) stayed home today. We walked at the rec center and then went back to my house and decided to watch the movie first thing! I didn't want the girls to get caught up playing and then I wouldn't get to see the movie! :p

I printed out an activity book, this one I had to make most of the stuff. I made a word find, printed a couple coloring pages I found for HM and then I found some fun facts about HM and printed those out as well. For later I printed some activities on cardstock and masks of the hitchhiking ghosts!

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/snowHMday082a.jpg

Hope made our snack! Mmmmm, this thing smelled GOOD, too bad I don't eat pudding & cookies with worms in it! I can imagine myself doing so though! Probably b/c I HAVE eaten stuff like this before, but I'm trying to be good so I refrained. :rolleyes1
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/snowHMday083a.jpg

The girls got their activity books and we all sat down to watch the movie. Savannah was determined to munch on worms while watching, but she was having a tough time of it, those worms were hard to chew! ;) My camera was being strange, blowing all the light out and making it way too bright in the pictures. I have no idea what I was doing wrong, I checked everything. It's a learning process!

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/snowHMday142a.jpg

We liked the movie! It was funny and had lots of little tidbits of the ride thrown in that I would have never noticed had I not ridden HM. It made it feel even MORE like a Disney Day. They need more movies that are based around WDW so I can watch them! Kya was a little scared by a couple of the parts in the movie that were really creepy, I hope she didn't have nightmares last night. My daughter, however, will do anything to be the oddball, so she loved the creepy stuff and probably would have liked more.

After the movie they started on making the paper models that I printed out. Oh wait, did I say THEY??? These models were not necessarily for children, so Hope and I had to do a lot of them. Savannah was FINE with this b/c she was scarfing down the mud snack that hope brought! I think she would have eaten it all if I had let her. What's bettter than chewy candy worms? Chewy candy worms covered in pudding and cookies. :p

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/snowHMday168a.jpg

Kya diligently went to work cutting out some of her models and making them!

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/snowHMday182a.jpg

I think the bookmark was my favorite (and easiest!). It had a front and back, pics from the portrait room in HM and you could slide out the pic to reveal the spooky bottom part, just like in the stretching room.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/snowHMday194a.jpg

Here's some of the other models. Master Gracey's tomb and Madam Leota's tomb, and a little box that was also easier (the things I got from the disney site were much more child friendly than the tombs which were from doombuggy.com, I think.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/snowHMday195a.jpg

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i161/twoboysnmygirl/snowHMday219A.jpg

The masks were cute, but hard to cut out without an exacto knife. I should have put these on cardstock as well, but ran out of white cardstock.

I think everyone had fun! No clue what we are up to next week, I'll leave it up to Hope. We were supposed to be going to our Homeschooling Conference, but we canceled b/c of finances, so we'll have to think of something extra special next week.

the DIS is acting up for me today! I can see you responded to me in my email, but can't get to the actual page in my PTR??? :confused3

Anywho! I got the printables in 2 different sites. One was a Disney family site and those were the easier printables:
http://family.go.com/holidays/pkg-disney-halloween-printables/

Then there is another site with models (this is where I got the tombstones) and they are VERY intricate! They have the actual mansion that you can make, it looks amazing, but I don't have the patience for it and they say they are not for kids. The girls did ok with them, but needed a little help.

I read your TR from October and really enjoyed it! I tried leaving a post on the thread, but there are no reply buttons anywhere....? Weird. I've never had that happen before unless the thread is closed, but there's no padlock on the thread. Very strange. Anyway, I wanted to post that I read it all in two nights, and I'm hopeful I'll be able to follow this one, too! I haven't read far to know if your trip is still on, but I'd guess it is since you're still going strong with the posts here!

Yay! Another reader! Yes, I didn't realize either, but apparently when they put the trip reports in the finished area, they LOCK them???? I wouldn't have asked to have it put there so soon, I missed out on chatting with others about it. Now I know why people drag them out for months!

I hope join in and like my PTR for this trip, it's not nearly as fun as an actual trip, but it keeps me going and looking forward to our trip this fall! :lovestruc

I just need to ramble. Anyone else just have to do that sometimes? Maybe it's just me. :rolleyes1

So, with the possibility that Eli may not come, it threw me into more planning and rearranging. Surprised?

We are pretty set on the Family Suite regardless. I think Rey & I need our space. We already have issues having any space to ourselves and limited time b/c he's always gone. On vacation you should be able to sleep in a queen bed in a separate room, right? I also don't have to worry about preferred buildings then as the suites are already in the preferred buildings. The fridge will be nice for my soy milk and the coffee will be invaluable. So, spending $200 extra on the suite isn't THAT big of a deal.

BUT, I'm driving myself mad with ADR's and the QSDP! For anyone who hasn't kept up here, I was sent a pin for free dining, but it's for QSD instead of DDP. I'm pretty sure this is what value's will be offered. Anyway, after looking over the CS places, I found some GREAT options and was pretty excited that we won't be tied down all the time by ADRs. BUT, there are a few places we just HAVE to go. Well, the list keeps getting longer and the OOP cost is making me feel like it's not free dining after all.

We must go to Biergarten, it's really the only place Rey wants to go. Park Fare is the one character meal we really want and Tusker House lunch is a must for me at AK. Not only is it hard to find food for a vegan or vegetarian at AK, but I just LOVE the food there. I couldn't believe it, but really, I remember commenting on how all the ANIMALS seemed to have lots of fruits and veggies, but none of the CS places offer anything I can really eat.

THEN I have the MK issue. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to avoid rope drop on our MK day. BUT, even though we will have the GAD fastpasses, we will need to do Dumbo first. I don't like rope drop much b/c it SEEMS like there are a million people, even though they thin out pretty quickly. I just don't like the rush at RD and if we were to have an early ADR like we did last year, we could be in the park and miss the rush of people down mainstreet. Is this worth a 100$ meal? I'm not sure. The characters aren't a big deal, I like Pooh, but I can take him or leave him. The food was good, but what I really liked was an empty mainstreet for our pics, not feeling rushed, and missing that hoard of people at RD.

I guess if I save up the money and put it on a gift/disney card for our OOP meals, it won't seem like a big deal once we are there, but looking at the numbers, it just seems annoying to me to spend almost $600 OOP on 4 meals when we are supposed to be getting FREE dining! :sad2:

The driving issue is still up in the air, if Eli doesn't come, Rey may push for us ALL to drive, which I REALLY don't want to do. The drive was pretty long and we spent just as much money on 4 days driving (2 there, 2 back) on gas, food, and 2 hotel rooms. Rey sounds more and more worried about the buses though, so he may be more willing to drive himself and Dylan down when he realizes that having the car there will give us more freedom at times.

Ok, I'm done rambling. Didn't figure a single thing out and I think I'm just repeating myself over and over, but eventually I'll work it all out in my head!

It's ok, Karen. Please feel free to ramble on and on.......I think we all understand and if nothing else, we can be here to listen. it really will all work out --- you know it will!!! Just keep swimming!!!! :rolleyes1 My little monkey wrench now is that Peter might not be able to get the time off to go to Disney. So our honeymoon might just be me and Victoria!!! :lmao: He works in the heating industry and September is the start of the busy season! Ugh! He thinks if he sends a nice letter off to the owner, it all may work out.....All I can say right now is WHATEVER!!!!!

It annoys me that I can't even take 1 week a year off without having an issue.

Oy, I'm just in a complainy mood this morning, don't mind me! :rolleyes1

Darn!!! I was just going to go on a "mission" to get you to come over to POP with the rest of us- but I can TOTALLY understand where you are coming from with you and Rey needing your privacy. I would probably do the same.

As far as your dining dilemma- it would probably actually be cheaper for you to upgrade to the regular ddp. You would get more TS meals out of this then paying OOP for the original 3 that you plan to do. The only thing is, you still have to factor in tips, the extra snack, and the mugs. Darn- you got me on that one :confused3. Ok, so I was doing a little math. You figure you would be paying about 137.95 (4 adults, 1 child) for the QSDP x 7 nights = 965.65, that is what you would be paying if you didn't have free dining. So you figure, even if you do have to pay the 600.00 OOP, you are still saving $$$$$$ by being on the QSDP. Hope this helps!!!

Nope, you can't talk me into POP, Janine! :p We stayed at Pop on our first visit and loved it, but I was determined to stay somewhere different this time. I LOVE the value theming though, it makes me feel more like we're at WDW, so Music was an easy choice for us with the family suites! Too bad they aren't finishing POP, they could put family suites over there on the other side of the lake. I wonder if they will ever finish those???? :confused3

NOTE TO SELF!! Ann reminded me that we need to do something about MNSSHP bags. Last year we had forgotten that not only are the bags small, but they are open at the top with no closure and I was worried on a couple rides that the candy was going to fly out! :p Anyway, I want to make or purchase bags that are a little bigger, canvas maybe, for the party for us!

So, for dining, if I were you, seeing how you really want to do some TS meals, I would probably upgrade to the DDP. The price of the OOP meals, should be coming up pretty darn close.
I decided to just stick with the QSDP that we were offered for free. We'll have the mugs and plenty of food, and we did enjoy it in May. And like you said, won't have set times for being at a meal.

As for your plans being god only knows where. I think planning this far out we all know how you feel. We went back and forth with flying and driving. What resort to stay at. Should we try to upgrade to DDP or stick with QSDP. Add waterpark and more option or not...... And because nothing needs to be finalized this early on we keep going back and forth :headache:

I'm really trying not to stress out, try not to. We have plenty of time to plan if things keep changing.

I do think we are going to end up driving to this year. My kids prefer it, they are actually getting very excited about it. We're going to have a lot of road games planned. Plus I really like the fact that we'll have our truck there and on the days when we want to be in the park until close or get there at opening we won't be standing on a crowded bus with kids, strollers and mugs that are leaking :rolleyes1

Twoboysnmygirl

Pam, I think what bothers me most is not being able to decide. I'm a planner, but for me it's all about the END plan. I HATE being not sure or not knowing what I'm going to do. All is right in the world when I have the plan SET, even if it changes, I can roll with that, but this not-sure stuff is driving me bonkers!

I think what is bothering me most is that it's supposed to be FREE dining, ya know? Either way, we are going to have to pay more to get what we want. 600$ out of pocket for 4 TS meals OR about the same for more TS meals but less CS and Snacks for the same price after you add in the tips, mugs, and upgrade. AND we are locked into meals and less flexible. Grumble...

I'll figure it out, but I'm not going to be happy until I do! :lmao:

Twoboysnmygirl
02-04-2010, 10:16 AM
AND, just when I feel like I'm comfortable with the decision (I was almost there with the QSDP this morning), then I talk to Rey. :sad2:

He says that he thought we were going to do all the TS restaurants this trip so that the next time (when we are offsite) we will know our favorites, etc. and can eat at CS places to save. :confused3

This makes sense, BUT, there will only be 2 meals added that he hasn't been to. In fact, 4 out of the 7 TS places we would go to, we have already been to! 5 for Savannah & I. The only new places would be Park Fare, Chef's, and Boma (for him & the boys). Everything else we've gone to and they are favorites and yes it will be fun to go back, but I'm just concerned there won't be enough CS or Snacks if we upgrade and then we will pay even MORE for those extra things. Where's the pulling your hair out smiley????? :scared:

Bummer!!!!!! Oh well, at least I tried right :thumbsup2? You guys seem like a fun family and will have a great time wherever you go. I totally understand about staying somewhere new each time. That is what we are doing this time. I have been to WDW probably about 6 or 7 times since I was a child. I took Bill and Austin for the first time in 2008 (we stayed at ASMo-loved it). I went on a girls trip in June 2009 and stayed at POP for the first time- and I think Austin and Bill will love it. Bill said last time that he thinks we should try a new place each time- I am slowly bringing him around to the magic of disney :wizard:!!!!!

You will find a solution to your dining dilemma, and it will be a great one!!! Notice in my PTR we are having the great park hopper debate- so see it happens to us all!

Monday, September 27-
-DHS rope drop (Hope)
-CS(5) breakfast ASMU
-S(1)at DHS
- BOAT straight to:
-TS (OOP) Biergarten late lunch 2pm (before 3pm so it's lunch!)
-back to resort for evening
-CS(6) dinner at ASMU/or pizza
-(Spectro/Wishes if we can't see it previous night)

So, first, I'm caught up and enjoying your PTR. I like you coming by to ramble. :)

Secondly, I thought you were wanting to be sure to do Biergarten for dinner since Rey was there for 2 hours? So how did it get to be a lunch reservation? Onto the next issue...

I feel that I have a unique perspective on this issue. Maybe I don't, but I feel like I do. :lmao: Anyway, I'm a (recovering) scared, very scared, very :scared1: flyer.... and a mental health counselor. And I've worked with kids, so on top of that, I think I might be able to help a bit. So that's why I think I have a unique perspective; not only do I know how it feels to be terrified, but I know what I should be saying to myself to keep me from royally freaking out. So a bit about my fears: I don't mind take-off and landing, but I used to really, really, REALLY hate the actual being-up-in-the-air part. It seems very unnatural to me that a several thousand ton tin cylinder can hurtle through open space with trajectory and accuracy in landing. Again, :scared1:!

Anyway, I say "recovering" because I've flown about 14 times now, and ironically enough, it got worse. The irrational fear of "this will probably be the time I die" got stronger over time. And I was usually more nervous on the flight home, thinking, "Yeah, wouldn't this be the luck. We just had our amazing time, and I die right after it."

Some of my friends and family all gave me the whole "don't you realize it's safer to fly than to drive?" bit, but that didn't help. I don't know that I actually thought about it at all, but once I did, that made sense. Here are a variety of the tips I used to help me fly:
A) The biggest reason I'm doing better with this is all the prayers I've offered. The Lord is really helping me. If you aren't people of faith, there are still things you can do (I do these things, too, and they help, but the praying has been the biggest thing to help this change for me).

1) I started telling myself, "Jen, there are planes in the air right now. Thousands of people all over the world. It's tomorrow in Japan, during the day, and they are flying and having no issues."
2) I made a list of every single person I could think of that I personally knew who had flown. Fortunately for me, I know some people who fly often. I've been to California, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, and Orlando. I have an aunt from Iran, a friend from India, my best friend's husband's dad was a missionary in Papua New Guinea growing up so they flew back and forth from the states every couple of years, my sister has flown to Japan, Scotland, Amsterdam, and Vancouver for business, our secretary at work flew to Singapore and Italy, my boss flew to Argentina, my coworker flew to Hong Kong.... you get the idea. I had that list in my carryon so that, as we flew, I could read it and realize that these people flew much farther than the distance between Ohio (where I live) and where I'm headed (Orlando).
3) My secretary's nephew is a flight attendant. He says that, in 20 years of flying, he has NEVER had an experience where he thought the plane was going down.
4) I look to the flight attendants for comfort. They don't have to know I'm doing it, so I don't feel silly. If they are walking around, we're fine. If they have the drink cart out, we are DEFINITELY fine. If they don't react with nervousness at the bumps and jostles along the flight, they are minor.
5) I remember that, if I were driving, the bump I just felt would feel normal, like driving over a pothole. So it feels funky now because I'm 37,000 feet in the air. But this is actually safer because we hit an air pocket. Air cannot hurt metal. Air cannot make metal plummet to the earth. Air is air... harmless.
6) The pilots don't want to die.
7) The pilots and flight attendants do this every single stinkin' day. This is their job. Flying is as normal to them as my talking to a client about past trauma is for me. That would be terrifying to some people; to me, it's normal and enjoyable. This is their every day job, and this is not a scary or unsafe every day job. Being a cop is, or being someone who works on wind turbines is, but not flying. If it were unsafe, they wouldn't do it. My sister always says the government cares about its citizens (debatable at times, maybe :)). But the FAA and the airlines do NOT want lawsuits, so if they send a flight in bad conditions or in a plane in less-than-tip-top-shape, they are exposing themselves to HUGE fines, bankruptcy, lawsuits, and even jail. So they don't do that, obviously. :) They only send flights when it's completely safe to do so.
8) (These are more mental health-y tips.) When we get anxious, our heart rate increases, our BP rises, our mind races, our face gets flushed, we tense our muscles, etc. These are all normal physiological reactions, but they actually HEIGHTEN the sense of anxiety. The more we are tense in our bodies, the more we notice that we are tense. And the more we notice our tension, the more we remember WHY we are tense. So doing some progressive muscle relaxation will help. Start with the top of the head and move down to the feet, relaxing each muscle group in succession. As you do this, focus on breathing - breathe in for 4 counts, hold for 2-4, and breathe out for 4. This evens the breathing, which increases blood flow to the cells, decreases heart rate, BP, and racing thoughts. It helps the body know what you mean when you tell it to relax.
9) When we feel anxious, we generally fight it. Fighting it feeds it. Counselors who treat anxiety will (hopefully :)) tell you NOT to fight it. Instead, if you can tell yourself something like this, you'll be better off: "Yes, I feel nervous. It's normal to feel nervous; I don't fly every day. But feeling nervous does not mean I have to stay nervous. I can think about something else. This doesn't make me weak or a bad person; in fact, I'm strong for realizing this. Now I know I have a choice and don't have to be a victim of my fears!" Then focus in on a thought that's really pleasurable, preferably that incorporates all of the senses. The more senses we involve in a memory, the more our brains focus on that memory because senses occupy different parts of the brain, so we're asking the whole brain to work together. A memory that you can recall the smells, sights, feel, taste, or sounds of is great.
10) Try to delay looking at the watch. Doing some time-delay can help. "I can wait 5 more minutes before looking at my watch." If he can't wait 5, wait 3. You get my point. Putting it off helps you focus less on it and gives your brian a chance to be distracted in the meantime.

In general, I'd say this is good for him to "face his fear" in the sense that this will be a huge confidence boost for him if he can do it. I recently had to fly to Phoenix for a work conference, but I found out when my flight landed in Denver for the layover that the conference had been cancelled! Talk about :scared1::scared1::scared1:! So I got on a flight back to Dayton that night, and basically me, a petrified flyer, took a completely pointless flight! It's pretty comical, and a God-thing as far as I'm concerned. But I was flying solo, into bad weather - all my fears. But I did it! And I'm so confident that I can handle future flying that I'm almost looking forward to it! Very new feeling for me. I bet Dylan would have a similar experience. He should not force himself, and you are wise not to either, but he's assuming he'll be terrified, when maybe he'll love it. At the same time, if he can avoid letting his fears do all the talking, I think he'll learn that his rational mind is more powerful than his emotional mind in this area, and that's a powerful weapon against fear. He's reacting to the future as if he knows what it will hold (very common in teenagers), so if he can give himself the freedom to think it might be better than his expectation, that will help.

Last but not least - no one but the PTR writer has business writing posts this long, so I'm sorry - I read a thread recently about a free flying video. It's given by a social worker/pilot. It's pretty good. If he'll watch it, it could really help. I didn't realize planes had 5 back-ups for things - pretty amazing!!! Here's the link: http://www.fearofflying.com/.

I hope this helps. I hope he makes a choice that he is at peace with; I think it'd be cool to see him fly and find some victory over this fear, but I empathize that he might not be ready. If he is, I think some of the tips above could really help.

Whew. And I'm done... finally. Sorry again!

Jen, I think you just broke the record for length of reply on my PTR! :cool1:

Thank you SO MUCH for typing that all out! Lots of stuff to think about and I appreciate the link. I'm going to see if he will watch it. Once he gets an idea in his head, it's hard for him to change his mind, but it's definitely worth trying! It's interesting some of the self-talk you do, I have done many of the same things! I never had a fear as a child and flew quite a bit, but as I have gotten older, it has begun to bother me. I wonder if he has picked up on any of that? I don't talk about it, but he's very intuitive.

Rey is almost positive he will drive now, he sounded like he wanted the car with us and didn't want to be at the mercy of the buses. He was talking about snack credits as well and saving them up to take a ton of stuff back for the ride home.

Oh and Biergarten in the afternoon...
First and foremost, it's about 80$ more to have dinner there vs lunch, so that was a factor. I mainly wanted to go on a NON-Epcot day more than anything, so that we could enjoy the meal without me thinking about what we were missing at Epcot. So, that's why I planned it this way. We will do a 1/2 day basically at DHS b/c we will have our GAD FPs and many of the shows we saw we are not wanting to see again. Then we will be able to go to Biergarten and spend as much time as we want. We don't have plans that evening and although I left a CS open for dinner, it will be a late lunch and I have no idea if we will even need it!

The great QSDP and DDP debate is still raging in my head. I found a way to fit the 7TS into our itinerary, but to be honest, after having all those CS and S credits on the QSDP, it doesn't seem like much food with the DDP when you take them all out??? We would have to eat breakfast in the room every day with DDP but with QSDP there are so many CS that we can eat some breakfasts in the food court if we want. BUT, we would only get 4 TS instead of 7 with QSDP paying out of pocket, and I'm having a hard time choosing which ones. If I wanted to try different things, I would choose places we haven't gone, but I can't seem to give up Tusker House and we all want to go to Biergarten. Park Fare is the only new place and it seems silly to go to Crystal Palace just to get in the park before RD. I may just have to deal with the hoards at RD. The other place I would love would be Chef's of France or Boma (for everyone else to experience, Savannah & I loved it) but Boma is super expensive and Chef's is as well, really.

I WILL figure this out, I'm driving myself crazy at this point, but to be honest, I think part of it is b/c things are very tight here right now and it feels like the walls are closing in a bit on me. This causes me to go into a frenzy of wanting to avoid worrying about things I can't change right this moment, so I escape into Disney stuff. Normally, that's just fine, but I think being uncertain about Disney makes it harder for me. Planning my trip is my CONTROL that I don't have over other things right now, so to not really know what I'm doing kind of ruins the escape!

Well, if you didn't know that I was a Psychology major in college, you know now! Welcome into my head, folks! Try not to get lost! :lmao:
