WHO WE ARE:

Zoe Dog -- Me; 41; went to MK several times as a child and to EPCOT once in late 1980s with DH; compulsive planner, list-maker, and tip-gatherer, but (much to my and my family's relief) was able to be flexible once we arrived

DH -- turned 41 during vacation; late 1980s trip with me was only foray into the World; was a little spooked by memory of how perfect and "Big Brothery" everything was and loved to tease me about my "disney obsession" but is a total kid at heart and began to lurk on the DIS and other helpful sites during the last weeks before departure

E -- DD (11 years) - has an incredibly vivid imagination and so was a bit apprehensive about "spooky" rides, but determined to be a big kid; loves interaction with characters and spotting live animals and noticing all of the little unexpected things

D -- DD (almost 10 years) - wants to do it all and then do it again and again . . . absolutely fearless and utterly enthusiastic

L -- DD (6 1/2 years) - doesn't like to be left behind by the big girls, but is not a thrill seeker; began to swim like a little fish thanks to daily access to warm pools

WHERE: 6 Nights WL; 3 Nights AKL

DAY FIVE: Wednesday June 26

We slept in! Yippeeeee! No Wake-Up call from Stitch! DH and I did some laundry as a tag-team while the girls watched some TV. We all wandered down to the Whispering Canyon for a 10:45 PS. The girls didn't know that it was a goofy place until we got there. Our waitress seemed to sense that we were all too tired for much kidding around - so she gave us some gentle joshing and we enjoyed the silly antics from a slight distance. Ordinarily we'd all enjoy being in the midst of the silliness, but we appreciated the toned-down experience that day. We went to the resort pool until about 2:00 when we headed (by car) to Typhoon Lagoon. It was very hot and humid and crowded and we felt confused and overwhelmed at first. Then DH led us to two lounge chairs fairly near Ketchakiddee (sp?) Creek. He and D and E rode the lazy tubes around the lagoon to get a lay of the land while L and I went to explore the kiddie area. L was on about her 10th ride down the mini-kiddie-tube ride (she felt like quite the daredevil!) and the others had just entered the wave pool when we were all ordered out of the pool because of lightening. We crowded under an awning with a lot of other folks, enjoyed some ice cream, got to visit with our "neighbors" a bit, and still the thunder and lightening continued. People began to leave after about an hour. We figured that we had stayed that long, so we may as well hang out a while longer. We shared a couple of kids meals and some picnic food we had brought with us until about 5:30 when -- hooray! -- we got the all clear signal. The one and one-half hour wait was well worth it -- almost everyone had left and we had the water park practically to ourselves for the next two hours! Incredible! We rode the family tube rides and Keelhaul and Mayday tube rides over and over without any wait at all - as soon as we went down we'd race back up to do it again! Great fun! It was particularly fun for me, because up to this point I had sat out a lot of rides at the theme parks that L had decided were a little too much for her, while DH went on them with the big girls. But during this two hour free-for-all, he played with L and managed to convince her to ride in the lazy tube ride with him. E and D and I were able to have some wild time together. We all had a ball until it closed at 7:30, then back to the WL, showers, and bed -- we're off to the AK and MGM tomorrow!

That sounds great. I have a couple of questions about Ketchakiddee creek. Was it really loud, not from the kids, but from the water? We have a kids pool here that just opened and they have so much spraying water out of the thing that is is deafening. I was wondering about that. Also, I was wondering about the slides for kids. Are they windy small slides, or are they pretty much 12 feet or so of straight slide? Just trying to figure out which park, TL or BB, would be more fun for our dd, 3. She is quite the daredevil with slides and likes the windy ones that aren't really fast. I just don't like the deafness that comes with too much shooting water. It becomes much too easy for her to ignore us in that situation.

Thanx.

Funny - but I can't really remember whether it was noisy or not, sorry. There were a lot of water sprays, but it seemed like L and I were able to hear each other pretty well.

The slide in the kiddie area was a windy one with very little if any incline. The tubes there had bottoms in them rather than the open donut shapes of the lazy tube ride that circles the whole water park (can't remember the name of it). L initally wouldn't go on the lazy ride becuase she didn't like the sense that she might fall through, but once DH convinced her of it, she liked that ride as well.

If she's a daredevil, your DD might like going on the family raft ride with you as well. But you may want to try it out first because it goes quite fast and you get sprayed with water.

We thought it was a great place for the whole family -- Enjoy!

Sounds like a nice, relaxing day. It worked out so well that you waited out the rain. Good strategy! :)
