~The Daily Grind~ 11/8/09

It's Sunday!! Last day of the weekend. What do you have planned for today?

Mouse update: The no-kill trap has a lil sucka from the kitchen! Looks like a tiny guy. Waiting for DS17 to get up and take the pup for a long walk...and he can let my little friend go on the field... The trap upstairs is empty :confused3 Was DS21 seeing the same guy in the kitchen and the laundry?

My list for today:

Caffeinate http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e147/ddavis860/smiley/smiley_drinkcoffee.gif This repeats every day!!

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e147/ddavis860/smiley/chores004.gif Scrub the kitchen... :mickeyjum

Make meatball soup in the crockpot. Didn't get this done yesterday...got a rotisserie chicken instead for dinner

Climb Mt Washmore again http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e147/ddavis860/smiley/laundry.gif

I have some cleaning to do too. I've got to vac and start some laundry.

We have to make a banner for parades for the GS troop. Probably will do that today too.

I have got to get to the grocery store sometime today too. A mouse (snicker) would starve in my house!

Football today. DH will be parked in front of the TV. Hmmm, I wonder if PrincessM's friend is going to take her to the high school pool? She mentioned it last week. I'm sure they'll call if they are going. (The dad is going to the Patriots game, so the mom was going to take the kids to the pool - that's why the strange connection between football and swimming ;) ).

Congrats on the catch, Deb!

Hope everyone has a great day!

My drama from last night:

So, about 7:30ish the doorbell rings. Dogs go crazy as usual. If I'm not expecting someone, I don't answer in the dark...had a friend scare me at the old house a long time ago, and just don't do it anymore. So, I sit there in the chair and ignore it...

DS17 comes plunking down the steps, and asks why the dogs are going crazy. I tell him the doorbell rang, and before I can say don't open it, he turns on the light and opens that door... I was furious...

He closed the door, and turned off the light... So I tell him that I don't open at night. Guess no one was there right?

He says..."Nope, just a dead squirrel" :confused3
Me: "You're kidding right"
Him: "Nope, on the front step"
Me: "Gross! Did you react?"
Him: "Nope, I looked out the door, looked down, thought great dead squirrel, turned off the light, and shut the door again"
Me: :lmao::lmao: "Guess you ruined that plan, I think you were supposed to scream, or react or something. They are probably going to take the squirrel and sulk all the way to the next victim's house"
Him: "I'm gonna check in a few min to see"
Sure enough he checked bout 10min later...squirrel was gone again...

He took a ride to see if he could see anyone creeping around the houses, but didn't see anyone. I told him to check our other vehicles for it too...Today he has check the mailbox. Wasn't Mischeif Night last week or something? Sheesh...

Good Morning:

Sorry to hear about the squirrel!

We had someone stop by our house at 7am this morning to let us know the cows in the pasture beside us were out in the road (main highway). So then I had to call a church member that knew who owned the cows to get in touch with them.

I'd like to run to ACM, but we'll see.

DH is wanting to make steak and cheese calzones for lunch and La Princessa has requested lasagna for dinner. Since she rarely asks for anything I make (DH is the majority cook here), I will grant her request.

We're going out early to get what we need and then home to cook and clean.

I've got a cranberry bread in the oven. Smells luscious!

You guys are up and busy this morning!

We finked out and didn't take the kids to skating/hockey this a.m....bad, bad. Need to get DS larger skates, since he's complaining his feet hurt.

DH got a lot done yesterday (while we were croppin'!), but today I have to:

Do the 2x annual clothes swap-out - for real! I've been talking about this for weeks now.
Plan the dinner menus for the week - Yippee! Did TWO weeks worth - all out of the freezer or pantry!
Cut DHs hair
Walk the dog
Clean up window seat area (apparently, the "dump your crap here" area by the front door)
Verify homework and music practice actually were completed
Assist DH with yard/garden clean-up tasks - it it gorgeous and warm today!
Add journal boxes to the five (!) pages I got done yesterday at TBs - (one down, four to go!)
Watch football in there somewhere
Practice waltzing with DH so I don't look stoopid again this week at the lesson.
1/2 hour of basement cleanout so we can make a thrift store drop off sometime soon?
Oops - forgot to list dinner! Probably tacos if I can get Z2H to do them...

Enjoy the day, everyone!

Mornin'! I'm up...

Today: I'm just gonna putter around the house..

DH is finishing the west wall w/ drywall YEAH! One more step to a painted room by the 22nd!!!
DH is having one of the lazy boys prime the east wall of the dining room (can you see I'm a little irrate they both sit on their butts watching football while DD, DS13 and DS9 helped their dad left drywall into place.... ) Needless to say, I was NOT nice last night at dinner when I told them what they will be doing. :headache: I hope they have good jobs because they'll be hiring all handyman chores out including changing lightbulbs!

I want to finish cutting a few more things for my 25 Days of December book. I thought of a cute way to number the pages so I want to get those pieces done today...
I want to get more photos of them working in the dining room
Dishes
finish the last load of laundry (fluff and fold)
dinner - beef and noodles per DD

Tomorrow:
remove wallpaper border from kitchen

Today, the original plan was to go over to the apartment and start cleaning. But we'd miss football games again, and neither DH and I really want to. So new plan is to work on stuff around the house.

Yesterday, went well though. Big furniture was moved with no problems, and faster than we expected so it cost less than we had budgeted. :woohoo: And we joined the ranks of homeowners by doing yard work. We have a nice, big, white maple in the front and after the white stuff came it dropped all its leaves. So we had 8 bags worth to rake up. And the money we saved earlier...DH spent part of it later in the day. 5:30 PM we had to go into Denver because DH found someone on Craigslist who was selling some old LEGO for $35. He got one of the old 9-volt trains that they don't make anymore, so he is happy. Plus, 2 other random sets that he didn't care about but will use for parts, and a container full of misc LEGO.

Later that evening, I opened the container and started poking around. I asked DH if he had looked in it yet. He was like "I only care about the train." Then I pulled out a handful of classic Pirates LEGO. Classic Pirates and Classic Castle are his two FAVORITE lines because they were the lines that he had when he was little. Trains is his 3rd favorite, but he didn't have any when he was a kid because they were way more expensive than his parents would go for. So we figured out which set the pieces came from. And so now he is absolutely tickled because he got a train and a pirate set for $35.

So today's list:

Costco
Put shelves up in library - DH
Arrange furniture in living room
Put hutch on desk
Unpack clothes - DH
Assemble computer desk - DH
Start bringing in boxes, especially the last few kitchen boxes
Unpack kitchen boxes

Happy Sunday everyone! It's a beautiful weekend here, warm(ish) and sunny!

Yesterday was busy for us, so today, the boys and I are just taking it easy. We went to church this morning, had lunch, and now they're playing Wii until time for the race. DH is working a 24, and has to go with his coworkers to a funeral this afternoon.

The short list:

gather up laundry
work some on laundry, depending on how much there is
wash dishes from lunch
watch race
hopefully scrap some while watching the race
probably go to MIL's for dinner

I'm sitting here teary eyed. My DH is a paramedic, and I posted earlier that he was going to a funeral today. The funeral is for a 911 dispatcher and former EMT; he was not quite 50 years old. They just game his "last call" and the command to retire his unit number. I've heard it a couple times before, but it always gives me chills for some reason.

Anyway, I just needed to say it. I'm here with the boys and no one to say it to, even though DS6 asked why they said last call and thank you for your service.

I've heard last call before... OMG! That one still has an effect..
My DH didn't realize what an emotional wreck I would be when they played Taps for my Pap and my Uncle... he was ready for it with my Grandpa but it was the worst for me emotionally as he was my last grandparent... :(

Anyway, I hit the clearance racks at stores and have a boatload of Christmas done for the boys (except little one).. .anyway one great buy.. I had a $5 coupon.. I found two college shirts on clearance and total price... $2.14!!! I was dancing... :woohoo:

I'm going to go through my list and my totals but so far I think I have spent less than $100 on all 5 kids! I've been little Miss Bargain hunter.. I forgot my coupons for Target but will be getting some clearance PSP/DS games on sale for the little boys this week.. I hope to have all my Christmas done by Thanksgiving!

It's Edy's pumpkin ice cream, it was sooooooo good! OMG, I loved it! I'm about to break my rule of having ice cream twice in one day!

She did not go swimming, the weather was amazing, so they played outside all afternoon. She took a bath and is now eating, said it's just her snuffy nose now. I'll give her some Advil before bed tonight. Hopefully, it's just a cold!

She was pretty sick earlier this school year, wasn't she?

It is probably just a rhinovirus. Give her some extra OJ, Lemonade or lots of pickles. The acid raises your PH balance and the virus doesn't like that. :thumbsup2 You do need quite a bit over a period of time, like you do with regular medicine. It kept me from getting the illness my kiddos had this year. :confused3 Well, okay, I can't swear to that. But I like pickles anyway. :rotfl2:

Hope, what an awesome find.

PN, you are doing great on your Christmas shopping. I need to get in gear for DH and DD. Don't know what to get for either one. :confused3

Jennifer, I have been making up about three lasagna at a time and then freezing. Great to take out and pop in the oven on those days when you don't want to cook

We were up early today - 3:00 am, but didn't get motivated until about 9:00. Ran an errand, picked up my Mom, took DD to swim class. Noticed a ferral kitten about three months old in the front field. Worried that a fox will get the little guy but we can't get near it. It is white with some grey, the cutest little thing.

Calling it an early night since we got up so early.

She was sick in late-May, early-June. She hasn't been sick at all this school year. Pickles? She likes pickles, I don't know if we have any...

Yup. It's the vinegar in them. Actual vinegar is recommended. Apple Cider to be exact, but there is no way on this good green earth I am going to ever drink vinegar straight again. I about keeled over. Course it was later that I read you were supposed to add water to it. :lmao:
So the pickles work for me. They have vinegar in them, no calories, and taste great. :thumbsup2
