So, we are back from our Disney trip (:sad1:) and this was the first time we ever used the Deluxe Dining Plan. We booked LOTS of signature restaurants to use up the credits and we still were stuffed most of the time. We did try lots of new restaurants.

SO..review number 1 is Sci Fi Dine in for dinner on arrival day. We had been there once before for lunch and loved the theming, but the food was just OK (besides the really yummy onion rings and dessert).

I ordered the onion rings as a appetizer and DH order the spinach and artichoke dip with chips. BOTH were really good.

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture005-2.jpg

For our entrees, I ordered the shrimp pasta and DH got the ribs. His was just OK and I didn't like mine. The shrimp was tough and the pasta overcooked.

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture002.jpg

Desserts were both yummy. I had the peanut butter and chocolate cake and DH had the hot fudge sundae. They also brought DH a birthday card and another sundae.

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture006.jpg

Dessert and apps and the theming were good. Go for the ambience, not for the food.

Stay tuned for Day 2..breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table, lunch at Yak and Yeti and dinner at Jiko.

Morning of day 2- we had 8:30 ressies for CRT and I was able to get these pictures of the castle WITHOUT people.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture049.jpg
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture050-1.jpg

We got to the castle and Cinderella was so charming. She asked if DH was my prince and I said yes and then she asked him how often we danced together and he laughed as I explained he didn't dance. She said that dancing with their one true love is easy and maybe we would like to dance now (that never happened). She asked me if she could take DH's arm like she does her prince and that she promised to give him back. So adorable.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture057.jpg

We had three choices for breakfast and I got the French toast (YUM) and DH got the omelette (maybe it was a frittata?) which was also very delicious. There was also a a cold plate.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture058.jpg

ONE OF THE SCARIEST THINGS happened when we went to pay. DH lost his fanny pack (with BOTH of our keys to the kingdom, the keys to our rental car, his wallet and his Maui Jim sunglasses):scared1::scared1:. Turns out the family at the table next to us found it and turned it in. I swear DH aged 5 years in that moment. THANK GOODNESS for honest people.

We both loved CRT..the food, the theming, the princesses..and we would go back again.

So we were stuffed from breakfast for a while, so we had lunch at 2. This was our second time at Yak and Yeti and they sat us in exactly the same table.

I got the potstickers (pan seared) and DH got the lettuce cups for an appetizer (both were wonderful..this was the first time we got the potstickers and I first tried the lettuce cups because of what I read here on the DIS).
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture143.jpg
DH got the tempura shrimp and I got the steak and shrimp (YUM again)

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture146.jpg

Dessert was the really wonderful wontons in vanilla sauce (I could have that for all three courses..yum). I didn't finish my entree because I knew the dessert was so great.

Our reservation was 8:45 but we were seated 30 minutes later (this was the only time the entire trip we had to wait like that, so I can't complain). We had to wait again for our waitress and we were one of two tables (and the other table was...well, needy I guess is a nice way of saying it). We were tires and the early morning (we were up at 2 am to make our 6 am flight) were catching up with us. We still enjoyed the food, but last time the service was better.

I had the tastes of Africa appetizer and DH got the BBQ chicken flat bread. We both loved his and he loved mine. I liked the humus with olive but the other two dips were way too spicy for me. DH preferred the green one to the red one.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture013-1.jpg
DH had the swordfish and HE LOVED IT. This was the first time he ever had it but he was feeling brave, so he ordered it. I also thought it was yummy.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture016.jpg
I had the filet on mac and cheese. It was still yummy, but somehow not as good as the first time I got it two years ago.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture017.jpg

We split the creme brule (YUM).
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture018.jpg

I would so go back to Jiko again...I would try something new next time.

Day 3 - Lunch at Mama Melrose and Dinner at Citricos (which was probably my favorite meal of the trip).

Lizboo
11-06-2009, 08:02 PM
So we went to Mama Melrose for the first time and it was really great.

We had the antipasta and the bruschetta (which had its only little hidden mickey).
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture017-1.jpg
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture020.jpg

I had the chicken parm and DH had the spicy sausage pasta. Both were really good.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture021.jpg
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture022.jpg

DH had..um, I don't remember what is was called but it was chocolate and mine was the cheesecake. We had heard mixed reviews about MM, but we are planning on going back.

We had dinner at Citricos and loved it (my favorite meal of the trip). The food was outstanding and the restaurant was just beautiful. They sat us near the kicthen when I saw this hidden mickey.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture307.jpg

We both had the crab appetizer, which was just unbeleivable. It wasn't fried like most crab cakes and the sauce was so good.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture309.jpg

DH got the short rib that was cooked for 12 hours in red wine sauce. I got the veal shank with was so tender and tasty.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture310.jpg
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture311.jpg

Dh had the banana chocolate torte and I had the lemon raspberry cheesecake.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture314.jpg

The food, restaurant and service were excellent.

Stay tuned for Day 4- Breakfast in Norway, Lunch at Tokoyo Dining and dinner at the Flying Fish (I am full just thinking about it).

I'm in. You are off to a great start. I'm so glad you enjoyed Mama Melrose...we've always enjoyed it and have never had a bad meal in four trips. We ordered off the lunch menu at dinner time at Sci-Fi (DH had the reuben--delicious, and I had a cheeseburger which was very good...the dinner menu just did not appeal to me at all).

OK, I know lots of people really like Akerhaus, but this was our least favorite meals. The princesses were in character like CRT, but the food was not as good. There is a cold buffet and then the bring a hot plate. My favorite part of the meal was the potatoes. DH asked that I cancel all other character breakfast after this meal (Ohana and 1900 Park Fair).

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture029.jpg

We had lunch at Tokoyo Dining and it was excellent. We both had the shrimp cocktail and the tempura/sushi sampler (EXCELLENT and this was a nice change of pace). We both had the iced green tea too, which was very refreshing.

Two years ago, we had our favorite meal at the Flying Fish. Everything was yummy, the restaurant was beautiful and we had a wonderful wait "team". Jay, who is the best server I have ever had (and I waited tables for 7 years myself), who was training an adorable guy with an irrestible accent named Rogerio...well, Rogerio was our waiter and we were thrilled to see him. He was just a charming and wonderful as we remembered.

They brought us an amuse bouche of soup that was yummy (I think it was butternut) and we both had the crab cake for an appetizer.

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture126.jpg

We both had the char crusted steak (YUM- This is one of the best steaks ever).
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture127.jpg
I had the trio of desserts and DH had the apple cobbler.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture130-1.jpg

This was DH's favorite meal and I really enjoyed it too. If you go, see if you can sit in either Jay or Rogerio's section..they are great.

Day 5..lunch at Tusker House and dinner at Teppan Edo (with a fellow DISer no less)

We ate at Tusker House at its first available opening (11:30 I think). We had not liked Boma (I know, I know..lots of people do, but we just didn't)...so I was a little nervous. But we really enjoyed Tusker House. The salad, curried chicken and especially the seafood stew were yummy. I enjoyed the carving station (but DH is kinda more a well done guy, so he avoids this kind of stuff). The desserts were really great (especially the choc cups filled with mousse...ddrrooolll).

This is the second time we would eat at Teppan Edo. We were ushered to the very back of the restaurant with two other couples and a lady with her two sons. Turns out she is a DISer (hi Elaine:flower3:) and she and her kids were really great. I ordered a My Fuji drink (not sure what was in it but it was good) and DH had beer.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture281.jpg

We both had the tempura appetizer and I didn't take a picture since I already had at Tokoyo Dining (same for the desserts as we got exactly the same thing again). We both had the steak and shrimp and it was excellent. As was the "show". If you are considering this restaurant, don't hestitate. The food is wonderful, the restaurant is very nice, the "entertainment" is interesting and you may be lucky enough to sit next to another DISer.

We started the morning with the Back Trail at Fort Wilderness Segway Tour and it was even more fun than the Epcot one we did a couple of years ago. I was also excited that we got to meet the headless horseman's horses (yes, there are two) and the other horses at the stable.

After the tour that morning, we were off to Whispering Canyon...YUM.
UM..I guess they though DH looked thirsty

Thanks..I have to say Tusker House was a real gamble because DH has not like any Disney buffets (even...gasp..Chef Mickey:scared1:). This was our second time at Teppan Edo and it did not disappoint as per usual. I love that style of Japanese cooking.

I always try everything once..the only restaurant I wish I had listened to the warning about was Tony's, but some love it and I have heard it is getting better. You never know and sometimes, you just have to try for yourself.

Great reviews!! Thanks!! I'm hungry & excited now! :rotfl:
Thanks..I have to say I have sighed when looking at some of the pictures...my spaghetti dinner just doesn't seem as exciting as a three course meal (that I didn't have to cook no less) with an incredible view like fireworks, a castle, an aquarium...sigh...I am a very lucky girl though..for the first time ever, we are headed back again..just for a long weekend, but I get to see WDW at Christmastime..

So, we were going to MNSSHP that night, so we booked Ohana for the first time because it was close by. It was really yummy and I would go back in a heart beat. We booked the first dinner opening at 5:00 and it took a while to check in (and on a side note, as I was standing in line, my flip-flopped foot was run over by a man obviously not in control of his double stroller who was is such a hurry that he couldn't stop and apologize to me or the three other people in line he hit..OK, rant over).

We got an amazing seat where we could see the top of the castle (and could also see when it started raining..but it ended quickly, so :cool1:).

DH got a beer and I ordered a Lapu Lapu (which was delicious, but potent).
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture586.jpg

They brought out salad and sauce first (I was told back home to put the peanut sauce on the salad and it is yummy) and then the wings and potstickers (YUM).

Then the noodles and broccoli.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture593.jpg
Then, they bring around big skewers of steak, pork, turkey, HUGE shrimp...hhmm, I think that was it. I didn't think much of the steak (kinda tough and I am a medium rare kind of girl) and all three sauces were wonderful.

But the best was yet to come..dessert was heavenly. Bread pudding with some kind of sauce..OH, I could have laid in it. I ate WAY too much of it. Sigh..I wish I had some now. (I would have an even more decendant bread pudding later in my trip...drool).

Le Cellier is one of our favorites and probably the restaurant we have eaten at the most. It was still amazing, but I have to say that I didn't love the mushroom filet as much as I had in the past. I would still order it (no doubt), it is just in the past, we would have both said this was our favorite meal. This trip, mine would be Citricos and DH's would be Flying Fish.

I ordered a drink called the Magical Star which was great and DH had a beer.
I had the soup (probably the best part of the meal...especially when the pretzel bread is dipped in it) and DH had the spice sausage appetizer (which is very tasty, but spicy indeed).

The maple creme brule finished off our meal and they did something special for DH's birthday.

Day 8 was spent at Universal (I know, I know) but we had breakfast at the Wave and lunch at Wolgang Puck and a late night burger at the Food Court (sorry, no pictures..but it was just your standard burger and pretty good as I had worked up quite an appetite running from "monsters" at Halloween Horror Nights).

We had early ADRs for the Wave (first time eating there) and it was really good. The Wave is all about the healthy, which was a nice change of pace. We both had omelets and split them (ham and cheese/spinach, tomato and feta cheese). Both were really great.

We did an Unmasking the Horror Tour at Universal (which was great and convinced us to stay for the event). We decided after doing some rides to go have some lunch and maybe a swim since we thought it could have been a long night, so we went to Wolf Gang Puck. I had the chicken chinois salad (which was very refreshing on a hot day) and DH had the spaghetti. We both had the creme brule.

We did attend Halloween Horror Nights for the first time (which was so incredible, scary, thrilling and fun all in one) and then returned to the food court for burgers. I had the beignets for dessert and I am afraid I don't see what the appeal was..it was just fried dough with powered sugar..nothing to write home about.

Day 9- Dinner at California Grill, which was delicious as usual.

This was our first time there. They brought out fruit and pastries when we first arrived and then we had three choices: my french toast stuffed with cream cheese and carmalized banana or hubby's quiche/egg thing or oatmeal.

We spent the day back at Universal/Islands of Adventures, but we had 7:45 reservations at California Grill. This was our second time back. The first time we went, we sat to the right facing the castle. This time, we were on the other side and as we were sat, it was pointed out that we can see the castle on our right and you can see Illuminations on your left and the water parade straight ahead (we never saw Illuminations because we were out on the observation deck watching Wishes.

We considered a drink, but we were both so tired at this point we knew that we would be a goner if we had one. I ordered the BLT flatbread as an appetizer (which was heavenly and even better than the BBQ chicken flatbread at Jiko...yum) and DH got the California Rolls. There were 8 of them and I quickly took a picture as I realised we were going to inhale that before I could.

We timed it perfectly to see Wishes just after payng our bill. We had seen it from here once before, but I forgot from that angle, it looks like most of the fireworks are being set off over Space Mountain (and the next night at Narcoosee's, it would look like they were mainly over Splash Mountain).

DH's one complaint about CG is the noise level and I admit, he is correct. But with the wonderful food, great service and beautiful views, it is a no miss restaurant.

Thanks everybody for the comments! Yep, can't say we were lacking in the food department. Thank goodness you walk a gizillion miles and sweat it off or we would have had to buy all new clothes.

We had an 11:30 ressies for Coral Reef. I have heard mixed reviews about the food, but I was really curious about the view. We were sat on the second tier and I asked if we could move down to the first one and the waiter said "This is actually a better view- you can see all three windows from here". Turns out he was right.

They give you a fish guide when you sit down so you can identify the fish, 3 kinds of sharks, rays and turles.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/Orlando%202009/Picture065.jpg

We had the appetizer sampler, which is the sea and land, lobster bisque and crabcakes for two (this was the best part of the meal) and we were told we were entitled to another appetizer (SURE..bring MORE food) and we ordered the sauteed shrimp.

This would be only one of the two times we would see our waiter (now and the cheque). The restaurant was NOT busy (we had the first seating) and all food was brought by someone else. Not impressed with this guy and his tip reflected it.

We both had the lobster ravioli for entrees and neither of us really liked it. It was just OK. We didn't complain because the appetizers were pretty filling and we still had dessert to come. Can't really pinpoint what we didn't like about it for someone to fix either. I mean if you have a steak that is not cooked properly, that is an easy fix.

So, we had 8:45 reservations at Narcoosee's. We had been there once before and I what I remembered was a gorgeous view and piped in music for Wishes (and a wrap around deck), wonderful seafood, and the best dessert of my trip in 2007...the wonderful almond crusted cheesecake.

DH ordered the soup (at the recommendation of our waitress) and I had the calimari and both we were wonderful. Mine was not greasy as some are and had spicy peppers with it.

I ordered the whole Maine lobster (oh..my...heaven..) and DH had the surf and turf. I offered him a bite of my lobster and he said it was the same as his...um, no..mine was more tender and sweet and his was a rock lobster tail (it sure beats a cheeseburger, but I got him to agree that mine was much better). (The picture of his surf and turf were from our first visit).

We both got the amazing almond crusted cheesecake and if possible, it was better than I remembered..heavenly. The cherry lambert sauce is so good with the cheesecake.

We had a great view for Hallowishes and the water parade also. It was a wonderful, romantic evening and I highly recommend Narcoosee's.:cool1:

Day 11..breakfast at Crystal Palace, lunch at WPC (and a ride on Characters in Flight) and dinner at Prime Time cafe. We originally had ressies at Yachtsman's Steak House, but DH wanted a break from "fine dining"..so we swapped YSH for lunch and dinner. We will have to go there next fall.

The sauce was a hot sauce and it did not make the calamari soggy at all. It was very tasty. There were also olives and I think capers with it.

We had a 8:30 ressie at Crystal Palace. We had never been before and I love Pooh bear (there..I said it..grown lady, still loves that silly old bear). Because we were there early, I was able to get some pics of main street and the castle with very little people.

We were seated almost right away and our waiter's name was Ariel (yup, a guy with the same name as our friendly mermaid). Super nice guy, charming accent..so name be darned..I just thought it was interesting. He took our drink orders (OJ and coffee) and explained that the first section we got to was the kiddie section, but we should not skip it (some of the best stuff was there) and then there were hot offerings and in the centre was where you could have omelets made to order. It was all really yummy.

The potato casserole was really great and after polishing off these big plates, we had no room to go back for more.

We met and took pictures with all the characters..BUT pooh.:eek:He came to the table just beside us and then got called away...so I never met my beloved bear...sniff...

At this time, we had dinner ressies at Yatchman's Steak House, but we went to guest services and cancelled the reservation and got a late reservation at Prime Time Cafe (we knew we would be going to DHS for the EMH).

After spending the morning and early afternoon at the MK, we headed to DTD for lunch. Wolfgang Puck is an unbelievable deal and we still can't beleive it is a counter service. I had the BBQ chicken quesada (I really wasn't sure when I first ordered this a couple of years ago..I thought about getting the BBQ sauce on the side...but YUM) and DH had the spicy chicken pizza (also yummy).

Afterwards, we went to Characters in Flight, which is a HUGE helium balloon (as opposed to the hot air balloon with the hot hot centre). DH really was give it or take it about this, but he was really glad he did it. The pilot told us about every little upcoming bump and also told us there are only 17 of these in the world. It was amazing and next time, we will do it at night (the pilot said it is great during fireworks). The view was just spectacular (we saw the Epcot Ball and the ToT.)

So, we had 9:00 ressies but we showed up 20 minutes early and they sat us right away (hey, it was a gamble, but the worst they could have said was no, right?). This was our third visit here and we have always loved the theming.

I learned my lesson from last time and did not order a shake because that just fills you up and then you can't enjoy all the food (that being said, the PB&J shake was so yummy and my waiter suggested I put a little chocolate sauce with it).

We split the onion rings. The dipping sauce (I think it is horseradish) is so yummy and that one appetizer is more than enough for two people.

We both ordered the fried chicken. I had mine with the greens (really not that great..that it from a southern girl) and DH had corn. This was the first time when we ordered the chicken that they gave us a choice of veggie. Our "cousin" told us we had to eat all our veggies if we wanted dessert.

There was a family two tables down from us with a SCREAMING baby. I mean, screaming off and on the entire time we were there and neither parent seemed to really try to do anything to soothe the baby. The funniest thing was when one of the waitresses sshhhed the baby (I have to say, he was so stunned, he was quiet for about 60 seconds). Yes, I don't know what it is like to have a screaming baby (our kids are in my avatar) but I am an aunt..and I once got up from my dinner (so my brother and SIL could finish a meal) because my fussy neice was not going to be quiet.

OK..back to happier things..dessert!! I usually get the smores (heavenly) but we both had sundaes (caramel and hot fudge) and they were wonderful.

This was our last night at Disney this trip. We debated whether or not to get up and go to AK for EMH the next morning, but we slept in, went to DTD, had an early lunch at Ragland Road and then headed for the airport (sniff).

That's funny your waiter at CP was named Ariel. This past summer on our trip we were waiting for the bus a Saratoga Springs and we of course were SUPER early. We started talking to a CM that was doing some bus pick-up log while waiting for our bus. Well another CM walked up and told her that he lost his nametag somewhere in the resort while picking up the trash. He was using a golfcart to travel around and said it could be anywhere, but he need a nametag. She opened up her lunchbox and said sure I have some extras--who do you want? :rotfl: She gave him one and off he went. She looked at us and said we have to have a name tag on at all times. So for the rest of the trip my family would see a CM,look at their tag and wonder if that was really their name. :confused3

We got told that on the Keys to the Kingdom tour. They try and choose one that sounds like their name, in case they get called. However there have been many dodgy situations of people asking them about their home town, and they just have to play along!

You know I was wondering about what makes the Characters in Flight balloon go up. When I was there I noticed the lack of fire power. That is a LOT of helium!!!

You took some really amazing photos!

Wonderful reviews and wonderful photos :thumbsup2
It's made me want to try and get an ADR at Narcoosses
I would love to see the fireworks and EWP from there
Does the water pageant go through just before the fireworks?

Thanks..I actually heard that it was a helium balloon from the driver of a water taxi at DTD (which is something I had also never done before this trip). It was very cool and I am happy I convinced DH to do it.

You should..love that restaurant. Yes, the water parade comes through just before and right in front of Narcoosee's.

Thanks. The one thing about the Deluxe Plan was that I felt wasteful- you just couldn't finish everything.

So we slept in, packed the car and then went to DTD. We had 11:00 ressies at Ragland Road. We had planned to go for dinner earlier in our trip, but we ended up doing Halloween Horror Nights.

I apologize because I have no pictures- the camera was packed with all the rest of our stuff in the car.

This was our first time at RR. We had the BBQ ribs with Guiness and honey sauce. This was an appetizer for two and it was really wonderful. I had the fish and chips and they were wonderful. The batter on the fish was light and crispy and the chips were great. This was probably the best fish and chips I have ever had (and there are PLENTY of pubs around my hometown). DH had the sirloin burger, which was also tasty.

BUT..the best part was dessert. I wanted the bread and butter pudding and DH said he was kinda full, so we decided to split it, but the waiter said we should take advantage of our last dessert, so we ordered a dunbrody's kiss (which the waiter described as a large truffle). WELL...the bread and butter pudding and its sauce were unbeleivably good..probably the best dessert (but for the almond crusted cheesecake) and the kiss was great, but too rich to finish.

Then, we went to the airport and came home to our dogs.

Thanks for reading and commenting. It was a wonderful trip. Our next trip is in December (and we have never been in December and will be doing all kinds of new stuff..MVMCP, Candlelight Processional and Osborne Lights..can't wait).
