WELCOME FELLOW S.S. MEMBERS CRUISERS!
DVC IS TAKING OVER THE WONDER
Congratulations to all who were able to book. This thread is going to be what you make it. I hope to get to know each of you better. Please come back often to chat. Cruising with DISers makes the time on the ship more enjoyable.

FISH EXTENDER EXCHANGE SIGN-UP
Debbie (Luckymomoftwo) has volunteered to keep track of the people who would like to participate in the fish extender exchange list. Debbie will keep the list and send it out to everyone via email as new people join. Deadline for signing up was JULY 17, 2010. The deadline is set so those who are making homemade gifts will know how many to make it & those ordering gifts will know how many to order.
If you would like to start a second FE group for those who wish to sign up after the deadline and spearhead the second group, then PM me or post on the thread.
Participating in the Fish Extender Exchange is completely optional. Feel free to do or spend whatever you're comfortable with. As for the Fish Extender itself, some people buy them, others want to make theirs, whatever you choose is fine. The same rule applies to the "goodies"! You can buy or make them!
What is a fish extender exchange?
If you're not familiar with what a fish extender exchange is, check out these links:

DIS MEET
DIS Meet - Sailing Day:
Onboard the Wonder Sunday, September 12th @ 3pm
Promenade Lounge
http://monorailgreen.info/member2009/index.1.jpg
The Elizabeth Swan & Pirate Game
On the 2008 Member cruise thread Gary (OKWMember) came up with the pirate game where each 100th post got a pirate (pirate:). To add more fun, each 99th post got an Elizabeth Swan (:bride:). This game was played in the 2009 Member Cruise thread and was so much fun. It really got people chatting. When will you get an :bride: or a pirate:?
Every 99th post = 1 ES (:bride:)
Every 499th post = 2 ESes (:bride::bride:)
Every 999th post = 3 ESes (:bride::bride::bride:)
Every 100th post = 1 Pirate (pirate:)
Every 500th post = 2 Pirates (pirate:pirate:)
Every 1000th post = 3 Pirates (pirate:pirate:pirate:)
We'll have a prize for the DISer with the most pirates and the most swans at the onboard DIS meet.
PORT CAMERAS
Some people like to view the Disney ships leave port. As the time was getting closer to our sail away date last year, some posters in the '09 thread would log on every Sunday to watch the Disney Wonder sail away. So, if anyone is interested in watching the Wonder or Magic sail away, here are the port cameras:
Port Canaveral Webcam (http://www.portcanaveral.com/webcam.htm)
Two Palms Webcam (http://www.twopalms.com/)
Ron Jon Resort Webcam (http://www.ronjonresort.com/beachcam.aspx)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Passports - do I need one?
Having a passport is ideal. However, a birth certificate with a valid photo ID will be permissible.
From DCL website:
Passport Information
Guests are responsible for obtaining proper documentation to board the ship. U.S. Government passport requirements continue to change; therefore, we strongly encourage Guests of all ages to have a valid U.S. passport for all cruises. Having a passport allows you to always be prepared to travel wherever you wish, and offers an added measure of security when you're traveling.
For air travel, however, the deadline was January 23, 2007. This means that all travelers, including U.S. Citizens and all foreign nationals, traveling to the United States by air, such as Guests flying to Orlando, Florida from Canada, are required to carry a valid passport after the effective date.
From Dept. of Homeland Security website (thanks eronim (Michael)):
How will the final WHTI requirements affect passengers going on cruises?
U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises (cruises that begin and end at the same port in the U.S.) will be able to enter or depart the country with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID. A U.S. citizen under the age of 16 will be able to present either an original or a copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad issued by DOS, or a Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Please be aware that you may still be required to present a passport when you dock at a foreign port, depending on the islands or countries that your cruise ship is visiting. Check with your cruiseline to ensure you have the appropriate documents for the stops you’ll be making on your cruise.
What have other members cruises been like?
The organizers (WDWLVR & MarkRG) of our 2009 members cruise thread developed a website specifically for the cruise. Now, I am not that talented. However, for reference I will list it here. It also has trip reports from 2003, 2005, 2006, & 2007 member cruises as well as tips for cruisers.
2009 Members Cruise website (http://monorailgreen.info/member2009/index.htm)
When can I book excursions, reservations at Palo, and/or register the kids for the kids' clubs?
120 days before the sail date if you are a Platinum Castaway Club Member (sailed with DCL 10 or more times) (May 15, 2010 for us)
105 days before the sail date if you are a Gold Castaway Club Member (sailed with DCL 5 or more times) (May 30, 2010 for us)
90 days before the sail date if you are a Silver Castaway Club Member (sailed with DCL once before) (June 14, 2010 for us)
75 days before the sail date for everyone (June 29, 2010 for us)
When is Pirate Night?
Pirate night is on your Castaway Cay day on all DCL cruises. On the member cruise it will be on the first Castaway Cay day. On pirate night, the characters will be dressed in pirate outfits, there is the Pirates IN the Caribbean Party on decks 9/10 that night at 10pm. There will be fireworks at sea as part of the deck party. Many passengers dress in pirate outfits.
Whatever else you want me to add to this first post last me know. I plan on keeping it updated. For example, if people are staying at a resort before and/or after the cruise, I can post it here. If people are interested in linked dining someone can spearhead that and I will post the names of those interested here. I can also post stateroom assignments. As I said, this thread is what you make it. Let the ideas flow. Let the chatting begin.

Hi
The reason they are prebooked is on the last members cruise they added on points and the SSMC10 was an incentive. We did that when we were on SSMC08 and as an incentive we got SSMC09.
We are in Cat 6 stateroom # 6568 (the same room we were in last members cruise) and we are also late dining.
Looking forward to meeting you in September.

Hi Everyone!
My name is Mary and this is our 1st member cruise. My husband and I are very excited!!! We booked a cat 11 inside sideways on deck 5 (5001), early dining and so did our friends ASROBERTS (5009).
This will be our 7th disney cruise but the 1st without the kids DS(17) DD(13)!! My daughter is not real happy with us right now but after I told her we are looking to book the Feb 19, 2011 7N Western she perked up. Anyway, we are really looking forward to the SSMC10 cruise.
See you guys in September!!

Sounds like our house! My DS (13) wasn't really happy either but we told him we might do a DCL in 2011, and he was "a Little" better.... !!!

Hi everyone! If nobody else wants to take it on, I'll keep a list of the Fish Extender Exchange group. If you're not familiar with what a fish extender exchange is, check out these links:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1980639
I actually set up a Yahoo email account specifically for the fish extender exchange. If you would like to be added to the list to participate, please email me: SSMemberCruise2010@Yahoo.com
Please include the following information in your email:
1. Names of all family members in the stateroom (in case anyone wants to make personalized gifts)
2. Stateroom number (so we know where to bring the gifts)
3. Ages and gender of kids (so people can make/purchase age/gender appropriate gifts)
I'll keep a list and send it out to everyone via email as new people join.
If anyone else wants to handle organizing this/keeping the list, that's fine by me...just tell me you'd like to do it and I'll let you have the honor! :rotfl2:
Oh yeah, CONGRATS TO EVERYONE WHO BOOKED THE CRUISE!!!!! Can't wait to make some new friends in September!!!

Had a busy day today!! First on the phone like everyone else for 2 hrs to get the cruise booked. Got Cat 9 stateroom 2128 with late seating. Then we immediately left to my best friends baby shower which was a blast. We drove up to Chattanooga last night from Tallahassee and we head back tomorrow. I am so looking forward to the cruise we take in around 6 weeks.
This cruise will be for just me and my DH, no kids. We have to have at least one trip a year for just us, I mean we have 4 kids, we have to keep our sanity somehow :) We've been looking at each other all day and whispering "We got on the member cruise"
Looking forward to meeting and greeting everyone and planning our FE and gifts. YAY!!!!!!!!!!

This is our first Dvc members only cruise and I booked it for DH, DS, and myself. Alot of what Im reading seems like adults only going. Are there less kids in this cruise compared to other Disney cruises? Also, do they do anything different on this cruise for kids? Thanks!

It does sound like a lot of the cruisers are going "childless"....I know DH and I are leaving the kids at home, due to the fact that they really can't miss a week of school now that they are older (15 & 16). I have a feeling this is why a lot of kids won't be joining their parents on the cruise. Probably there will be a lot of younger kids, where it doesn't matter so much if they miss school. DH and I are actually looking forward to a Disney cruise with just he and I...we finally get to go to Serenity Bay on Castaway Cay! :cool2:

The CM I spoke with said passport or "certified birth certificate with a raised seal" I assume those are different as the ones we have even for my girls are not raised seals.
We are taking our DDs. They will be 3 and 6 for the cruise and with my DHs vacation schedule - he is limited to certain times of the year - if we did not pull her out of school a little we would never be able to do family vacations:scared1::scared1:!!! Although I do dream of the day where DH and I can go ANYWHERE alone!:cloud9:

Here is the information regarding passports for closed loop cruises from the Department of Homeland Security:

DIS MEETS
We have to have at least one and since I know that everyone will be on the ship on September 12, 2010 we should have one there. Let me know your thoughts.
Whatever else you want me to add to this first post last me know. I plan on keeping it updated. For example, if people are staying at a resort before and/or after the cruise, I can post it here.
I'd be interested in a DIS MEET on the 12th. We're staying at the Radisson at the port on the 11th. Not sure what we'll be doing after the cruise, we might stay a few days at WDW.
What's everyone else planning so far?

We can do a DIS meet in the Promenade Lounge at 3:00 p.m. before the safety drill. That seemed like a good spot and time last year.

Hi Marsha
I found it. Thank you for setting that up on Facebook.
Have a great day.
:cool2:
That's our situation too. This will be the first time we've done anything Disney without my DS (13), but he'll be in his first two weeks of high school (AAAAAAGH! How did I get so old????? - sorry for the interruption...), and thought it wouldn't be a good idea. I mentioned to him we MIGHT take him on DCL in 2011, and that helped.... If the Member cruise would have been in October, we might have considered bringing him.
TJ
PS - I too would like to see Serenity Bay!!!
1st time cruisers also finally through had to upgrade to cat 4 room 8524 there were no 5s left origiannly wanted 8 but no matter we are cruising!! Late Dining WL for early DDs will not do well at 8:30p usually in bed by then:confused3 so we will have to think on this. The CM mentioned the kids club so maybe that hoping they wont be too tired!!
When my son was little, he never wanted to leave the Kid's club. The CM's walked them all down to one of the restaurants for special dinners each night around 5 or so. In fact, some of the people I sat with at dinner gave me a hard time. They said they didn't believe I even had a kid and that I just made it up! They finally met him on the last day at breakfast!

If anyone is able to design a website for the 2010 members cruise that would be great. But, as of right now we do not. Mark & Mary had their own website last year.
I can set something up off of my website if we want individual information about who from the DIS site is going and common things to know like Mark and Mary did. We can also use the Facebook group that someone has already setup it looks like.
Give me a few days (this week) and I can get something up for our use.
Thanks,

I really liked Mark & Mary's website. I found it very useful. It was great putting faces to names. So, if you are able to set up a website I day go for it. I will post the link as well as how you want people to contact you so that they can send thier info to you in the first post of this thread once the website is set up.

Congratulations on going on your first Disney cruise in less than 55 days. I am a little green with envy that I have to wait until next year. I know you will have a blast.
You're welcome re: the Facebook group. I am glad that people have joined. It is just another way for people to get to know one another and ask questions.

Hi Everyone and happy Monday! It is nice to see some familiar names from our support group on Saturday. :) Took me three hours of dialing two phones to get through. Spent another two hours on hold watching availability dwindle away. We wanted a cat 6, 7, or 8 - ended up with an 11 and waitlisted for the others. (Do those things ever come through on this???) It was a gruelling process. Thanks to Dopeygirl, Forever a Princess, BigDog and everyone else who helped maintain my sanity! :grouphug:
As excited as I am to be on this cruise, I am reallly nervous about being in an inside stateroom. The thought of not having a window is already making me feel claustrophobic. I need you to tell me that I will love it.

We've stayed in the inside staterooms several times. It's not too bad because the staterooms ARE somewhat spacious considering you're on a cruise ship. It is a little weird being inside and having no outside light, but we really don't spend that much time in the stateroom anyways. This will be our first cruise with a veranda, and I would have been fine with an inside stateroom again, but DH insisted on a veranda since we will be leaving the kids at home! :woohoo:
P.S. You will LOVE it!!!

Hi everyone,
For those who will be getting trip Ins. in the next few days & did not go through Disney, I usually use The Trip Insurance store, easily found on the web.
I use them for all my vacations and have found their prices reasonable and their staff helpful. We have had two times in recent years that we had to cancel trips and either change destinations or get a refund and I have found their staff to be super helpful and when we had to cancel using the cancel for any reason policy, We had the money back within 2 weeks of canceling. I usually go through Becky.
Anyway, just an FYI for my fellow cruisers! :surfweb:

Good morning everyone! Just went and looked at the website for our cruise, very nice!!! I will try and get our info in for the FE's and the gallery in the next couple of days.
After all of everyones hard work and patience to get on this cruise Saturday, it will be sooo nice to finally be on it. I have 304 days to make magnets, FE gifts and a sail away t-shirt. Do we have a DISigner on board?
Did we ever think on the Secret Mickey thing some more? Or do you think that the FE's will be enough to handle?
I have read about the buttons on the other threads, who have people used to have them made? What about the DISgreen bracelets?
Everyone have a beautiful day!

I booked a 3 night stay at our home resort, AKL, for after the cruise. Hoping to switch to BLT at the 7 month mark...what do you think the chances of us getting a studio at 7 months in Sept.?? If not, oh well. Anyhow, am enjoying getting to know all of you before the cruise:)
I am happy that we will be visiting WDW in March/April for 10 days, staying at AKL, and I am going with a friend to VGC for 5 nights in June, so I will definitely get my "disney fix" before the cruise!
Am happy also that I have 10 months to come up with something special for the FE exchange!

Hi! Pirate Night is on every cruise and it's something DCL does. Dinner that night is all pirate themed (menus are all pirate themed, you get pirate themed bandanas, and I think you keep the menus). Then there is a party on deck 9 by the goofy pool, which includes fireworks and a buffet. Then they play one of the POTC movies and you can sit under the stars and watch it. People dress up as pirates and princesses, too.

I want to say hi to everyone going on the SSMC10 that has found this site so far. We were pre-booked for this cruise and are super excited to be going again. We bought points on last years member cruise so we were already set and didn't have to call on Saturday. I believe we are in room 7022 this time. (Sorry if some one else has that booked and I had a lapse in memory and forgot what room we got :rotfl:). We also have booked late dining.
This will be our third member cruise. We have been on the 2007 and 2009 members cruise and it will be our sixth Disney cruise overall. Last year was just me and DH and this time we will be bringing our girls, 17 and 14 because they were mad about last year. They were with us on the 2007 members cruise. They love to cruise as much as we do so we thought we would bring them again. There are not as many kids on the members cruise as on usual cruises, but there are still quite a few.
Marsha - thank you so much for starting this site and everything you are doing. It was such fun last year getting to know everyone from the Dis before we got on the cruise that I'm anxious to get to know everyone this time as well.

Thanks for the info on Pirate Night! You guys are great :thumbsup2
So, now I read somewhere about door decorating contests? I've seen the pics of the decorating on some of the stateroom doors but did not realize that contests were held for these. I read that someone won a passporter book from the door decorating contest. Is that a DCL thing too on all the cruises? Can anyone shed some light on this :teacher:
Sorry for all the newbie questions but I am super psyched about the trip and really want to make the most of it for me and DH :goodvibes

I've got the Magic Christmas cruise this year, then the member cruise, then the Dream, June 12, 2011. I HAVE THREE THREADS TO FOLLOW!!!!!!
Ouch!!!! In my group, It will be me, Bill, DW Angela, and DD, Kristen. Kristen will be 14 then.

Bill,
WOW! You have three cruises to look forward to. Congrats! But, don't neglect us. :) We want to get to know you and your family. After all, we only have a little over 300 days before our members cruise.
Please tell us about the Christmas cruise when you come back.
Milfred,
Great Web site.:thumbsup2
I know i enjoyed the one last year for the SSMC09.
Congrats to all that got on the SSMC10. had a blast on the 09 one.
:wave2: Flo. Please come back and visit us often.
Please tell us more about the Secret Mickey. I haven't participated in this before.
I also sent my info for the FE and Website!! I'm up for doing anything that will keep me thinking Disney and the FE will be a nice diversion!!!
I have to admit I am a little nervous about first time cruising - I am the planning queen and anything new makes me nervous - oh I said panning queen I meant Queen of OCD!!!!:)
So I will be asking for LOTS of help!! I"ve got the WDW/DVC trips down, so all I have to stress about is the cruise!!!
DH is going to join on FB - I don't do FB - he does so I told him to follow along there - he is secretly jealous of all the info I get from my Dis friends!:grouphug:At first he thought I was nuts but now he's like ask your people this...see if anyone can help with....he's so funny!!
Have a great day all!!
I still need to update the FB page but that is great that he will be following along there. Please ask any questions, there are a lot of knowledgable people on this thread.
Hola from Mexico everyone!! Still feeling excited about booking the member cruise...woohoo!! I signed up for the FE exchange, which will be a first for me, and the website, which is very nice btw!
Have a great day everyone:wizard:
Hola! Como estas? I think you have a good chance of getting a studio at BLT for Sept.
Hello fellow DISers! Ok so I have been persuing the boards trying to learn more of what to expect on a DCL DVC cruise. Do I understand correctly that there is a Pirate Night? pirate: Is this on all DCL crusies, just DVC member ones is it a DISer thing or something DCL does? :confused3 Someone please tell me about Pirate Night. Between the Fish Extender thingie and Pirate Night I am about to go into excitement overload :yay:
There is a pirate night on all cruises as Michael explained. Feel free to visit my TR re: '09 Members Cruise. A DISer thing was to take a group photo between the two dinners on pirate night. Annmarie, I believe, organized this on our '09 members cruise thread when she got onboard the ship. She scheduled the group photo with someone from Shutters. If someone wants to organize this that would be great. And, continue to ask questions.
Congrats to all of you whom were able to book this past Sat. We were originally going to go but we already had a cruise booked for Sept. 23rd so we had to past. For those of you whom this will be your first members only cruise, you will have a BLAST!!!!! :goodvibes
I will pop in every now and then to chat :)
Take Care!
Please pop in. We love the company and the tips/advice.
Thank you. You have been so helpful in answering questions. I am going to update the first post with your answer.
Personally, I love Pirate Night!! There is nothing more magical than watching fireworks in the middle of the ocean!pirate:
I have yet to see the fireworks at sea. I missed them on the last cruise because I was putting DS to bed. Does anyone know on what side of the ship the fireworks can be seen? Now, that we will have a verandah I was wondering if they could be seen from the verandah.
Can't wait to visit with you all! :flower3:
Welcome back Chris! How was your trip?
It is fun getting to know everyone befoe the cruise. It makes the cruise experience more pleasant.

Don't apologize for asking questions. That is how we all learn. I am not sure how the door decorating contest works. If anyone can shed some light on it, please do.

Should I dust off my tuxedo??? Will there be a formal night?

There will not be a formal night since it is a short cruise. However, there will be a dress up night so you can dress up in a suit and I am sure you will still look great. :)

Quick Question:
What is everyone thinking about transfers to the port? Or are you staying the night before the Cruise at the Port?
I have read a few threads, but for those of you who have done the member cruise before is there a reason to arrive early as unlike with a regular cruise this cruise is sold out and from what I understand the reason people arrive between 10 and 10:30 is for a port upgrade? :confused3
Thanks in advance for any responses.

I believe we will be renting a car and driving to the port. We like to arrive at the port early so we can get on the ship ASAP. After all, that is what we are there for, right?????? Plus we like to people watch and just be there. We are weird. Plus last year we met some great people from the Dis Boards that we hung with the rest of the cruise. Wish they were going again because they were just so much fun to be with but they are lucky to be going on the Transatlantic cruise on, I think, the 18th of Sept. So they were not able to go on this members cruise.
Right now the plan for us is to go to Vero Beach before the cruise, drive to the cruise and then drive to BLT that we have booked for after. :woohoo: We can't wait to stay there. We just bought in on the 2009 Members Cruise so this will be the first time for us to stay there. And we are super excited about it.

It really depends on you and your family. Since we drove to FL this year, we stayed at BCV before the cruise. Staying at BCV was beneficial because we had our pre-cruise WDW cruise meet at BCV. After the cruise we stayed at AKV. Since we had a car, we did not have to worry about ground transfers.
Those who stayed at a Disney resort prior to the cruise without a car, paid for Disney transportation to the port. Someone from the '09 thread looked into a "party bus" to transport those staying at the resort to the port, however, not enough people signed up. Others, hired a car service since it was cheaper that Disney's transportation given their family size.
Some of the posters in the '09 thread stayed at the Raddison near the port. Early on, one poster checked to see if we could get a group rate. However, the group rate was not truly a discount. About a month before the cruise, the rooms at the Radisson were less than $100. I think people got to the Radisson by renting a car or hiring a taxi service.
Like Chris said, getting to the port early gives you the advantage of getting on the ship early. I wish we had gotten to the port early because byt the time we got on the ship Parrot Cay was already full and we did not want to have lunch at Beach Blanket Buffet since DS was cranky. Plus, I would have loved to explore the ship more. Note, try not to carry too much onboard with you. That is another eason why we did not want to do lunch at Beach Blanket Buffet. I overpacked.

Hi! Right now our plans are to fly in on Fri or Sat. And we'd like to stay at the Radisson at the port. Then we plan on being at the DCL terminal at about 10:00. No reason to arrive early except to get the #2 Boarding Pass and to take advantage of extra time on the ship! :goodvibes

DVC will send you a printed confirmation in the mail. If you have already sailed with DCL before, it should be under 'My Cruises' on the Castaway Club Member portion of the DCL website.

I just read your trip report from the 2009 DVC Cruise Marsha and thoroughly enjoyed it. You have a lovely family! Thank you for posting and including all the great pictures and details!
Terrie :)
Hey BBRNCA,,,,, When we did the member cruise in 2005, they brought in Susan Egan , who was the "original" Belle in Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. She did two shows that were spectacular!!!!!! As I recall, we also had Art Linkletter, who was a close personal friend of Walt Disney. He did some sessions about Walt, but I was not there for the shows. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Each day, they set out special gifts for each member in the stateroom. No one was left out. Special pins in special containers, special bags, hats, mostly all DVC, but things we have never seen again. They also had us pose for a picture with the sand DVC emblem on the beach. What else, guys?????
Bill
You know, they also had a sand castle building contest on the beach. Rachel, who was one of our guests for the cruise, was out on the beach playing around in the sand. No one showed up for the contest, so she was asked to build a castle and, TA DA, was the winner!!!!! She won one of those statues of Mickey Mouse that you see in the WDW gift shops. You know, the big ones that stand alone and run around $100. Too Cool!!!!!!

Happy Friday all! I hear you Luckymomoftwo! The whole "work" thing is rather inconvenient for planning and dreaming :rotfl: Unfortunately though, rather necessary  Busy couple of weeks for me down here too. We were at MNSSHP on Halloween and through the first week of November for F&W :thumbsup2 I came home and turned right around to go to a dog show for the weekend of the 7th! Thank goodness I did not have to be in the ring showing until the afternoon and was able to make our DVC Cruise ressies. I drove back home Sunday and had puppies going to their new families this week :cloud9: then tragedy strikes and my new mom to be goes into early labor and she is not due for another 2 weeks  Ultrsound shows at least one puppy with no heartbeat then later she delivered two puppies that had died inside her :sad1: which is what probably caused the early labor. All is well now, we have her on medication to stop the contractions and raise hormone levels so she does not go into labor again. So, of course I am still playing "catch up" at work.
So how has everyone else's week been :lmao:

Good morning everyone!!! I go to work for a few days, get back online and we have 9 pages on our thread!
To answer Secret Mickey; it is like Secret Santa. State rooms are assigned another stateroom and you buy them a gift outside of the FE's. No one can know who each others SM's are until the gift is given. Some cruisers have had them delivered to the stateroom with a note saying who it is from while others hand deliver at the DISmeets. It is all up to everyone else. I am layed back and go with the flow on this whole thing.
DH found another cruise he wants to do in June on RCCL. It takes us back to Ochos Rios and I am so for it. If we do it then we will have 4 cruises in one year.....don't know if I can do it LOL

You do not give a gift every night (unless you want to). The way it worked last year, we had about 35 cabins signed up for the FE exchange. I gave one gift per cabin unless I knew that those staying in the cabin weren't a couple or living in the same residence. I also gave each child in the cabin a gift. I delivered my FE gifts over the course of two days.
Some people do give gifts to each person in the room.

Hello All. It has been a busy week for me as well and next week will be even busier. Thank God for the weekends. Hopefully, I will be able to get a full night's rest. For the past few days, I have not been sleeping well. DS has gotten out of his bed in the middle of the night for the past three nights. We just switched him to a toddler bed. He did fine for the first week but now it is a different story. I blame it on the weather and the time falling back. He does not have the opportunity to expend some of the energy he has. Anyway, work is calling. Chat with you later.

Oh, I remember those days well..... Changes to daylight savings time when my son was littler was always a challenge. Just when I thought it was going good, the hours changed. I remember those days when it was still light outside and trying to convince him that he was tired and needed to go to sleep!!!!
Calypso--that's so sad, and I hope things get' turn around for all quick!
You know, I never thought I was really one of "those" kind of people, but I'm really enjoying getting to know, even if just a little, some of you all that we'll be travelling with. I'm hoping it will make the whole trip even better, if that's even possible!!!!
Best wishes to all for a great weekend! We're soon on our way to historic Lambeau Field, the "Frozen Tundra" to watch the Packers hopefully defeat the Cowboys on Sunday.... DW's first trip to Green Bay for a game! However, seeing as how well the Cowboys have been playing and how poorly the Packers have been playing, I'm not sure how much of a "game" it will really be!
Finally, I had on my Grumpy sweatshirt today shopping. A little girl pointed at me and said to her Mom, "Look Mommy, that boy has a Grumpy shirt on!" It continues to amaze me how all things Disney can continue to make kids (of all ages) happy, even after all these years. Not to mention someone my age being mistaken for a "boy" instead of a grumpy old man...!!!!!
Good night and dream on!!!

Marsha - we are going through the same thing!! My youngest is 2 1/2 and woke up last week stating she wanted a big girl bed well now at 5 am I hear "Mommy its morning time!!" Only mine is times 2 since first she gets big sister who also joins in!!! Aren't mornings great!!!;)

I hope the Packers beat the Cowboys. Since I am originally from So. Jersey, I am an Eagles fan. I do not like the Cowboys which works perfectly now that I am Redskins Nation.

I "love" those early morning wake-up calls - not. My DS woke me up this morning around 7:00 a.m. I really thought I would be able to sleep-in a little. I should have known better.

I know what you mean. I never thought I'd step out of my comfort zone, open up and try to get know "strangers" :scared1: Heck, I'm the girl that gets invited to a party that I can't find an excuse to get out of and will bring a book and go read somewhere rather than mingle :scared: That would be my brother's 30th birthday I'm describing  He found me sequestered in my nephew's room and asked what I was doing there...READING  I thought he'd be happy I showed up :lmao: So there it is... I'm glad you are stepping out of your comfort zone to get to know all of us! I think we'll all be in our "comfort zone" on the cruise! :rotfl: And, yes, I am a die hard Disney fan! I really do love all things Disney. We have been laughed at by family members because of how much Disney stuff we have. I have nine family pictures in frames sitting on my computer desk....all but two were taken at WDW or on DCL. And one of the (non Disney) pictures was taken during the first part of a vacation that was followed by several days at WDW. My poor kids are going to start thinking that WDW and DCL are the only places there are to go on vacation!

I've read a LOT of people on the DISboards suggesting Bonine and Ginger Pills. I've never tried it though. I always call my doctor and get a prescription for the patch that goes behind the ear. I don't get sea sick when I have that patch on, but OMG do I take forever to lose my "sea legs" when I get home! AND I get somewhat dizzy when I get home. So, I think I'm going to try Bonine & Ginger Pills this time. I'll have to go back through the threads though, to see if you take them together or alternate. :confused3

Yep we're totally Disney fanatics too - OK really I am :rolleyes1 but I'm slowly converting DH to join me and since he is the one who suggested I look into this cruise I'd say I'm more then halfway there! :rotfl: Oh and he beat me on Disney's Think Fast game yesterday, so yeah I think it's working. But yeah, his family especially, are actually worried we will never go anywhere other then Disney. I can't image why - we've only been there 5 times in the past 2 years :rotfl2: but our wedding was there so I think that deserves some consideration.
T.J. and Terrie I can totally relate to going to family parties and hiding I am just as shy. Actually if not for my husbands company I get freaked out at my family's events so needless to say he's the more social of the two of us. I have found though that meeting and getting to know people on here makes it much easier to meet them in person at the events - takes out some of the stress. Plus as you said we know we all have at least one thing in common - Disney!
Terrie pixiedust: and well wishes to your mommy-to-be and her puppies hopefully things get better for her through the next 2 weeks.
As for sea sickness I had a really rough time on my first cruise - on Carnival - because the ship's stabilizers were off. So we decided to try the pressure wrist bands on our DCL honeymoon cruise. Those really worked for DH. I couldn't wear mine for more then a couple hours because they aggravated the nerve damage in my wrists and hands. So I'm interested to see what others suggest as well - but if you don't have nerve damage the bracelets really can help. That said, I really only had trouble with the sea sickness 1 day of our whole 7 day cruise. So hopefully there will be no evil storms in the area that require the stabilizers to be turned off.

That, however, will have to stop.

Good Sunday Morning! :goodvibes Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far.
I'm so glad to see so many Disney fans on here. I thought we were weird for as many times as we have been to Disney and how often we go. I don't even like to tell people any more when we are going because of the eye rolling and head shakes. But like DH says, they are just jealous. And I shouldn't let it bother me. We have been able to find some really good airfare lately so why not? Right? Plus, being DVC members we don't have to pay for a room. So, I'm glad to be able to share our love of Disney with you all because you understand.
In fact, last week at this time we were at EPCOT! :thumbsup2 Our next trip is scheduled for Spring Break in March, but you never know, we may go again before then if we can find airfare.
Hey Marsha - just wondering, are you going to start a count down like Mary did last year?

Good Morning! I hope everyone's weekend has been good thus far. Mine has been very relaxing.
I am glad that we are getting to know one another. I am an introvert and my DH is a social butterfly. This forum helps to break the ice. So, keep chatting! By the time the cruise comes we will be like old friends.
To help us to keep chatting, I think I might borrow a game or two we did on the '09 thread. More details will follow. And, yes there will be prizes awarded at the DIS Meet onboard the ship.

Good Morning everyone. Wanted to let everyone know that I have the website all updated with the cruisers information that I have received, this also includes the pictures.
If you want anything changed or want to send me additional entries please see the first post in this thread for instructions on where to send the information.
Everyone have a good Sunday and GO COLTS!!!!!! :cool1:
Oh,,,, I thought this was your first DVC cruise... My mistake,,, Nonetheless,,,, this DVC cruise will be special. We are taking Kristen out of school for this. Our last one in 2005 was really neat. Presents every day for each one of the people in the stateroom. I am talking DVC pins, hat, books, collector stuff. DVC baskets that were collapsable so that we could take them home in our suitcases. OH YEAH!!! For Hercules, the Musecal,,, Hades even had DVC jokes. For example,,, Hades said"Would you all like some free DVC points?" Everybody Screemed "YES",,,, So Hades then started to "point" into mid air repeatedly, saying, There's one, There's another, and another. Of course, everyone laughed.
I can't wait to see who the special entertainment is on the cruise.
When we went through the Panama Canal with DVC in 2005, we got a concert with "Boys 2 Men" and also "Bob Sagett with Kermit the Frog and all of the Muppets". They were LIVE!!!!! To see the Swedish Chef chasing chickens through the Disney Magic was absolutely hilarious!!!!!!

my new mom to be goes into early labor and she is not due for another 2 weeks  Ultrsound shows at least one puppy with no heartbeat then later she delivered two puppies that had died inside her :sad1: which is what probably caused the early labor. All is well now, we have her on medication to stop the contractions and raise hormone levels so she does not go into labor again. So, of course I am still playing "catch up" at work.
So how has everyone else's week been :lmao:

Vedlin71 - Don't worry....there is sooooo much to do on the Disney Wonder. Each night you will be given a "Navigator" that tells you what's going on throughout the ship. I think there is a sticky on the first page of the DCL threads that has current Navigators for the Wonder, that will give you an idea of what they look like and what different activities are going on. Of course, I'm sure there will be different activities for us on the member cruise.

Bill, We're diong a 4-day in May 2010, 4-day for our Anniversary in 12-2010 and Alaska in 8-2011. I've love to do a holiday cruise, but I'm not sure we can schedule 2 in 2011 due to the overall cost of the Alaska trip. On top of the cost of the trip itself we also have to pay for boarding the 2 dogs, and we have to save Dennis' salary back as he does not have paid vacation time at all.
Our first Disney Cruise experience was amazing! From the time you step on the ship until the time you leave, every staff member does their best to make you feel important and well cared for. One of the most excting things for us was the dining rotation. It's fun getting the opportunity to "travel" to the different restaurants throughout your stay. And more importantly, your dining staff travel with you to each restaurant, so you get a really wonderful chance to build a relationship with them throughout the cruise. And the food was wonderful! We also had the opportunity to sit with a great family during dinner (we had a party of 5, and they were a party of 4 with 1 child), and we looked forward to dinner each night so we could chat with them and hear about their day.
Even though we have no children, we felt right at home on the ship. Most people probably think DCL caters only to families, but there is more than plenty for adult couples to do during their vacation. We spent a lot of late evenings in one of the lounges watching the "adult only" entertainment. We tried our hands at bingo a couple of times.. (B 11, B B 11!!!), and we LOVES watching Monday night football up on deck on the jumbo screen! Also, we never felt like the ship was "over run" with kids. The kids have their own activities to do while on board and we really didn't notice an overabundance of kids at all. We were actually very impressed with how safe the kids are while they're off in the kids clubs. The family we had dinner with have an 8 year old daughter, and the family told us about the various security procedures (ID bands, etc) that DCL has in place. Parents can let their kids go to the kids areas knowing they're having fun as well as being well cared for.
The theatrical productions were great. My favorite was probably the twist on Cinderella, Twice Charmed I think it was called. The Golden Mickey pre-show was fun too. My husband and in-laws loved the final show of the night, Disney Dreams.
We had a verandah stateroom and felt that it was very roomy. One of my favorite things to do at the end of the night was to take my Kindle out on the balcony, turn on the light, and read while the waves went by. My only problem of the whole cruise (which is a minor complaint, and very situational to me only) was the very tall lip on the tub/shower combo, but I have a hip issue that makes tall tubs difficult to get into. And of course that's just how the ship is built, nothing can be done about that, but I'm sure the staff would have tried to fix it if they could because that's how helpful they are! ~laugh~
I'm sure there's a lot I've missed, but these are the highlights! As Bill as said, we're hooked!
Aimee:)

I LOVE DCL, but Dennis has a special place in his heart for WDW. We'll probably have to plan a land and sea type event in the future so Dennis can enjoy the parks. But yes, I think I'm more partial to DCL at the moment!

It is really easy to play. All you have to do is to continue to do what you have been doing - chatting. That is it. how simple could that be?
The Elizabeth Swan & Pirate Game
On the 2008 Member cruise thread Gary (OKWMember) came up with the pirate game where each 100th post got a pirate (pirate:). To add more fun, each 99th post got an Elizabeth Swan (:bride:).
Every 99th post = 1 ES (:bride:)
Every 499th post = 2 ESes (:bride::bride:)
Every 999th post = 3 ESes (:bride::bride::bride:)
Thread Guess
It's quite simple. What is your guess for how many threads we will start before the cruise?
Hint: A thread is suppose to close arounf the 3750th post or 250 pages.
So, how much will we talk? Any guesses?

Terrie - how are the puppies and mom to be doing? I hope everything is going well, and I hope you got all caught up at work or are making good progress on getting caught up! :goodvibes
Thank you for asking Debbie. So far so good. Tomorrow we go for another ultrasound to see if the rest are still with us. Nearly caught up at work though :thumbsup2
Hi Terrie...so very sorry to hear about the puppies.pixiedust:pixiedust: Pixie dust for mom to be and hoping that all goes well.
Disney is a beautiful dog. Congrats.
Thank you Monika! Disney's the father so this is doubly heartbreaking for me.
what is the fish extender?? this is my first cruise. I'm in the SPH 5022. anyone on deck 5???
Hi Toontown :wave2: Its my first cruise so I'm a rookie too. Apparently on the ships there is a decoartive fish next to everyone's door. The crew can leave you messages there. A "fish extender" (made or purchsed by you) hangs from the fish and is used to hold goodies that the members of your fish extender group bring for each other during the cruise. Those that wish to participate sign up to be part of the group (see first post). Kinda like a seccret Santa but it doesn't have to be a secret. I got a kick going through all of the previous posts and threadd regarding fish extenders. It was fun to see all the different ones that people created or bought and to see the goodies they got from their group.
Terrie:)

Every 499th post = 2 ESes (:bride::bride:)
Every 999th post = 3 ESes (:bride::bride::bride:)
Thread Guess
It's quite simple. What is your guess for how many threads we will start before the cruise?
Hint: A thread is suppose to close arounf the 3750th post or 250 pages.
So, how much will we talk? Any guesses?
Hi Marsha...I love the game. So much fun.
My guess for the thread count is: 4---lets start the chatting!!!! :)

I can't wait to buy my stuff to make my fish extender! I might try to pick up a fairly cheap sewing machine the day after Thanksgiving so I can sew my own. Yes, that's right, I don't sew and I don't have a sewing machine! My high school home ecenomics teacher would be so disappointed! :rotfl2:
Thanks to DISboards and my love for all things Disney I picked up sewing...well sort of :rolleyes1 I stumbled on the DISboutiquers thread a couple of years ago and was utterly fascinated by all the custom clothes they were making for Disney trips. Mostly boutique style children's clothes that you'd find on Ebay for hundreds of dollars :scared1: Well I simply HAD to make custom Disney style attire for my next trip  The fact that I do not know how to sew, did not own needle and thread was completley besides the point :rotfl2: So I announced to DH that I was going to make matching shirts for the trip we were taking with my parents to WDW  DH was like...but you don't sew  (so what) and you don't have a sewing machine :confused3 (irrelevant) do you even know how to operate one  (not the slightest idea but I still don't see what that has to do with anything) uhm..okay, have fun... popcorn:: So I ran to the store bought the pattern that says "easy" Easy for who is what I want to know...an architect, NASA engineer or perhaps someone who is familiar with quantum physics :teacher:
Anyhow, I signed up for a class and my first day of sewing literally began with the words...so how exactly do I turn the machine on? :rotfl:
Here are the matching Finding Nemo shirts I made.
I still can't sew on my own or figure out a pattern by myself. I am toying with the idea of making matching shirts for the cruise :yay: DH said he'd wear what I make as long as it wasn't girly...DUH??? Like I'm gonna make him a Princess shirt or something with Tinkerbell...:confused3

That's a good start. There is also the Buena Vista movie theater. Pirate night...the fireworks. The Disney ships are the only ones allowed to do fireworks at sea. It's great!!!! How about the soft serve ice cream you can get anytime you want. Yum!!!!

I want to do the parasailing so bad...I was close last members cruise but due to the high winds...it was cancelled. So now I have to get my nerve up again. We did the bike rentals last members cruise and that was a lot of fun. We rode over to the observation tower...that is a must see. Great view.

I think your shirts are awaesome!!! And I am excited about doing our FE!!!
Newbie question- when do we start to do reservations for the kids clubs, palo etc and where do we do that???

Morning!
Marsha - thanks for everything you are doing. The countdown, the pirate: and :bride: game, and just everything. It is great!
I'm gonna guess with Monika at four threads.
Terrie - great shirts. The only thing I sew is a button on a shirt. And I'm not very good at that either. So to take on a shirt, you are very brave and I admire that.
Must do's????? Yes, I would say parasailing. It is great. Be sure to check the navigator so you know where and when activities are taking place. You can go to what you want and if you don't want to go, you don't have to. Plus, just relax and enjoy yourself. The whole cruise itself is a must do! ;)
Well, gotta get to work. Have a great day! :flower3:

Parasailing sounds like fun!!! I would LOVE that. I thought I had once heard that you can go snorkeling at CC. Normally this would terrify me, I am afraid of the ocean  but I thought I also hear that the area is netted off and therefore, Jaws will not be attacking :lmao: Don't laugh...I am totally convinced that if I go in the ocean I will be immediately eaten by a shark! :scared1: But if it is netted off I will give it a go.

Ok my must do list definitely includes Palo we loved the brunch and dinner we had there last time. We also loved Bingo - do they have it on the member cruise??? If so you'll know where to find DH and me we totally got addicted last time around.
They do have snorkeling at CC, or they did as of Dec. 2008, about which I have what I consider a long but hilarious story. Please don't let my experiences scare you into not trying what many people find to be an amazing experience.
When we went on our DCL cruise it was DH's first overall cruise and my second cruise - the first being on Carnival. So when I cruised on Carnival I was about 14 years old - quite so some time ago. Well I loved snorkeling because I adore wildlife. So I convinced DH we had to do it on CC because I was determined to see the hidden Mickeys underwater. Well our day on CC was very windy and cold - to the point they cancelled almost all excursions. But since the snorkeling is right off the beach and doesn't involve open water it was still an option. In the afternoon as we were headed back to the boat a short break in the clouds gave us some sunshine and warmth so we said what the heck lets give snorkeling a go. So we retrieved our gear - which was a process in itself because we both have very odd sized feet so finding something that fit was quite a challenge. Case in point I can wear a kids size 3 up to a womans size 7 depending on the shoes. Anyway we get our gear on and waddle to the edge of the water and start wading into the shallow water. At 4 foot 11 it doesn't take that long before water is high on me so at about 3 feet I start snorkeling and place my head in the water. After a few moments of trying to explain to my coordination challenged husband how to breathe through the snorkel while watching in the water without kicking anyone or running into anyone I realized that we've wondered out far enough that I can't touch ground. This should be fine since our gear includes a life vest. But lucky me, I get a life vest the keeps deflating by itself. So every couple of minutes I'm trying to re-inflate it. We're now in the middle zone where we are quite a distance from shore - maybe 50 feet or so, but not really out too deep maybe about 8-10 feet. So we keep looking underwater to see the fish and lo and behold I start seeing little blue fish maybe 2 to 6 inches in length, pretty harmless. I'm trying to capture pictures of them with my underwater camera but the buggers move pretty fast. As a matter of fact I'm seeing them but Erik hasn't caught a glimpse of them yet. However as this goes on I'm starting to realize I'm feeling kind of nervous about the whole snorkeling thing. When I snorkeled before they showed us a picture of what not to go near or touch. Disney just has these signs that warn you that there could be dangerous creatures inhabiting the water -now logically I know this is to cover their legal behinds. But apparently somewhere between 14 and my 30's I've lost my ability to think logically because I'm starting to worry about what's in the water. Must have been that marine biology class in college! I realize that the lifeguard tower - which is floating on the water to the right - kind of separating the snorkeling portion from the swimming area I guess. Well on said tower he's got a bunch, like 10-20 blow-up life vests just hanging there. So I tell Erik about my deflating life vest and that I'm going to go ask the lifeguard for a new one since he's waaayyyyy closer then going back to land and trudging up to the supply shack. I slowly make my way over and ask the lifeguard and explain that my life vest keeps deflating and wondering if those are extras. He advises me to try turning some piece or other to see if that helps or says I should return mine to the shack! Now I'm not a pushy person, as I've mentioned I'm rather shy. So just going over and asking this question is difficult for me. If I were someone else I would have pushed harder for one of the vests there. But I didn't know if they were other malfunctioning vest or if there was some reason he wouldn't share. So since I'm a decent swimmer I try his suggestion on how to prevent it from deflating and head back over to where Erik is. By the time I get there I realize his solution didn't work and I still have to re-inflate the dumb life vest. So now I'm trying not to freak out about the vest or the fact that the little blue fish are making me nervous because I have no clue what they are but I try to keep this to myself. Erik is finally getting the hang of the snorkeling process and starting to enjoy himself since he's no longer trying to trudge through sand in ill fitting fins. Up ahead I see an urn and figure well I'll go get a picture of that. So I swim over and go under and start snapping a picture. Well out swims another little blue fish - again maybe 6 inches long and I'm like ohh I get a nice shot of him and the urn. So while I'm paying attention to him another fish swims out of the urn - this one like 10 inches long and I realize both are swimming straight at me and my mask. It's at this point I freak out and try swimming in Erik's direction. Which is about 20 feet away. But I refused to turn my back on the invading little blue fish so I'm glancing above water to find Erik - calling to him but he can't hear me and then glancing back in the water to see the fish following me. I finally get to him and I'm like that's it, I have to go now, I'm going back to the beach now, get me out of here! Needless to say everyone has heard from my husband about how I'm frightened by harmless little blue fish. I've also sworn off snorkeling ever again as I've realized that I'm just a little too afraid of what's in the water with me and watching it through goggles is not a smart move, for me. So moral of the story - no I don't think jaws will be joining you for a swim - but if like me you freak out over little blue fish (or what they represent which for me is apparently the fear of what else is in the water with the little blue fish) then other excursions may work better for you. I will say this, it's not an expensive excursion so personally, especially if you've never done it before I say give it a go. If you freak out like I did then you're not out much money and can at least say you've done it once. Compared to most other snorkeling experiences Disney really does try to make it a very safe excursion - I'm apparently just a little too paranoid for that to make me feel safe. :rotfl:

:rotfl:
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Funny story. I'm kinda the same way. First time I went snorkeling was bascially the last time I ever want to do it again. I really didn't want to go, but DH and my two DD's did. So they went and rented the equipment. The three went off and had a great time while I had a great time all by myself on the beach with my friend, Margarita. :lmao: When they came back, the girls really wanted me to go, so I said ok. Now mind you, my feet are smaller than DH's so I had no fins because he only rented for him and the girls. Didn't think it would be a problem. But man, was it a big problem! I went out and saw the hidden mickey and stuff, but I never want to go again. I swallowed so much salt water, and couldn't keep up with the girls and by the time I got back to shore I was so tired and mad that they left me behind I don't care if I ever snorkel again! :rotfl: Plus, I am not a big fish/ocean creature person. As long as there is something between me and whatever is out there, like glass, I'm fine. But me personally with fishy things, no way. I just like to sit and listen and watch and enjoy a nice cold beverage :thumbsup2.

Loved the snorkeling stories Christine and Chris :goodvibes I've only been snorkeling once and it was wonderful and terrible all at the same time. We went to Australia and did an excursion to The Great Barrier Reef! I had zero intentions of entering the ocean and being amongst...FISH :scared1: I was quite content to stay in the boat and view the scenery through the glass :cool2: Then DH decides he is goin to do a guided dive AWAY FROM THE BOAT!!! I was horrified because in my head...that was it... he was going to die, having been eaten by a shark! So off he goes as does the rest of our party and leave me, on a boat, in the ocean, no land in sight, no one to talk to and my overactive imagination sprinkled with a dash of paranoia for good measure  So alone with my thoughts, never a good thing :lmao: I begin to contemplate my future without DH. I'm on the other side of the world and visiting one of the great wonders of the world pixiedust: Its going to be bad enough coming home with what's left of DH in a box :sad2: and will I one day regret not experiencing a "wonder of the world". How stupid am I going to feel and when the heck else am I gonna get to go to Australia. It's not like I could say, oh I'll do it next time  I decide to bite the bullet and if I am going to die then at least it will be doing someting that's cool :cool1: I get on my gear and sloooowwwwly go down the ladder steps from the safety of the boat to my impending "death by shark". It takes about 10 minutes before I am able to convince myself to pry my hands off the ladder and actually swim away from the boat. I could see how amazing it was down there but was not really able to enjoy it since I could not allow myself to focus on the beauty of it all. The whole time I was in sheer terror and kept looking around for the shark that certainly going to be my demise :scared: I think I lasted about five minutes away from the boat. In hindsight it was probably more like two minutes but they were the longest two minutes of my life :goodvibes I'm okay with that though, at least I can say I did it. Maybe I didn't conquer that particular fear but I faced it and that's gotta count for something :yay: DH made it back unscathed :rotfl2:

We went snorkling at CC the first time we went on the Magic back in 1998. That was the first AND last time. I got a muscle cramp in my leg when we were waaaaay out by the lifeguard. That was the first time I actually swam in the ocean and I was a little bit freaked out by swimming with the little fishies. The Hidden Mickey was really cool, though....so at least there was a fun memory from my scary snorkling adventure.
PARASAILING, on the other hand, was AWESOME! I am terribly afraid of heights, but I swear, that was THE most relaxing thing EVER! It's so beautiful and quiet up there. I HIGHLY recommend parasailing. I was only scared for the first two seconds and then I was so relaxed! I was so sad when my turn was over.

Hi all...I loved all your snorkling stories. My first experience snorkling was at Discovery Cove in Orlando a couple of years ago....just loved it. We went snorkeling at CC on our first Disney cruise but we haven't gone since then. We go to Serenity Bay and just relax there. I will go out in the water and as long as I'm touching the bottom, I'm okay.
Para sailing...I really, really want to do...but..I will be up REAL high over water, deep water. My husband says he will be with me. That does make me feel better...but the fear is still there. I've seen so many photos of what CC and the ship looks like from that height...I want to see it for myself. We were supposed to go at the last members cruise but with high winds...it was cancelled.
Is anyone considering doing the para sailing?

Parasailing at Castaway Cay--you have the option. There was a parasailing thread on the Dis and someone said you get a choice. You don't have to get dropped in the water if you don't want...just tell them.

Morning!
Parasailing I would love to do again but I don't think I could get DH to do it. He said it was ok, but nothing spectacular. Me on the other hand thought it was amazing. Wow!
Monika - ya just gotta do it. It is so peaceful up there. I was so sad when they started to pull me down. And the getting dunked in the water, well, even if you don't want to and you have someone else on board the boat with you, they ask them and they do whatever they want. Cuz I didn't want to get dunked but my DH said yeah do it. So I got dunked in the water. Well, at least that is what happened to me. ;) Would I do it again? You betcha!
Terrie - glad you got over your fear and were able to go snorkeling for a little while. That would have been awesome, but terrifying as well.

Good Morning everyone....been away for a few days, and wow, lots of new posts...I'll have to do some reading and get caught up! Anyhow, have a great day everyone!:)
The first time I was at Castaway Cay the snorkeling was wonderful....! Calm seas, clear sky, could see so much with the sunshine.
The next time there couldn't have been more different -- just after two hurricanes went through in 2004. It was raining most of the day. We thought, well, we're gonna get wet anyway, why not snorkel? Well, all the sand was churned up, it was swimming, but felt more like driving through fog! Rough seas kept the waves crashing into us, spilling water into our snorkels...
We'll do it again this time, because the first experience was so great and I think it is more typical. Our poor experience was an anomoly.
Parasailing? No way - DW gets shaky on "Soaring" at Epcot - can't imagine her doing the real thing!!!!!!

Terrie - I love how you describe your adventures - I can just picture them happening! You should be a writer if you are not one.
I am opposite on the snorkeling side. I love to snorkel and see what is in the ocean. That water is so amazing. (I did have one time where my mask was too big and kept sliding down my upper lip, which made it leek profusely resulting in salt water in my eyes - not fun.) The parasailing I tried tandem with DH. I actually was scared to death and was close to having a panic attack, which I have never actually had. I had to close my eyes and count trying to think about how long we had been up there. I was so relieved when they started to reel us in. We had them just dip our feet in the water. That part was not scary. The views were amazing, but there is no way that I would do it again. At least I can say that I tried it. DH would do it again and again - he absolutely loved it.

I did the ECO Trip on a Jet Ski two years ago. Couldn't do it on this last cruise cause all of those excursions ended up being cancelled on our first day at the island due to the strorms the night before we arrived. The Jet Ski Tour is worth the money. You go a good 2 miles out off of the island (at least it looked like two miles). We got to see a lot of sea life (baracuda, shark, sting rays, Star Fish). It was way to cool! :cool1:

I think the parasailing sounds fabulous - even though I am afraid of heights or at least I have been my whole life. I did manage to climb 199 stairs to the Cape May lighthouse over the summer so I think I may like to try parasailing. I think snorkeling would be cool also but I am slightly fearful of the things that are in the water!!

Parasailing is awesome! It really is not scary, I promise! I wasn't scared at all after the first two seconds. I didn't know they "dipped" you at CC, so when he was reeling me in and I was heading right for the water I started to get nervous that I was going to have to swim back to the boat! LOL I was the last one to board the boat and their "rule" is last one on first one up! So, if you don't want to go first, then make sure you're not the last one on the boat! LOL!

Me..a writer :rotfl2: thank you :goodvibes I suppose it would be cool but no, not me. Actually I am an occupational safety instructor and teach CPR and OSHA courses, I am an ex-pharmaceutical rep, ex-elementary school teacher and put myself through school by waiting tables. Come to think of it, at this rate of career hopping, a future career in writing is not entirely out of the question :lmao: I think we will try for the parasailing. If I don't have to go into the ocean I can do it. I might even get brave enough and ask them to dip my feet...that sounds like fun! DH claims to be afraid of heights though :sad2: I'm not buying it...he nevers balks at Soarin or Tower of Terror so I think he should do the parasailing with me  Ok I've got 10 months to convince him. Any suggestions besides, "If I can swim in an ocean on the other side of the world where the most Great White Shark attacks occur then you can strap yourself in a harness with wings and fly on a string." :confused3

Good mornin everyone,,,, WELL,,,, we saw the Miley Cyrus concert, Monday night. It was really cool and Angela and I loved it. It did, however, have controversy. Miley is performing for the older crowd , now. There were a few songs for the younger girls and boys, but the young kids really didn't know what was going on. Miley, even though only 16, dresses more provocatively. I guess some of the stuff even made the news on TV. She is getting away from the young kids , but doesn't have an older base of fans.

It's almost one week until Thanksgiving. What are your plans?
We will be going to DH's grandmother house for dinner. His aunt, uncle, and cousin will be there. I am thankful that I do not have to cook.
Our daughter is coming home from college for Thanksgiving. We will be picking her up on Monday. She will be with us until Sunday. :) :yay::banana: My DMIL will be having dinner with us. She will be spending a day or two with us, she doesn't live far from us but it's always great to have her spend some time with us. :cheer2::yay:
This weekend DH and I are going to our local tree farm and tagging our Christmas tree. Next weekend....the Christmas decorating begins. I can't wait. I hate cold weather but Christmas I just love and that would be the only time I would be happy if it snowed ( not a lot...just an inch or 2).
Have a good day.

Good morning everyone! Thanksgiving plans this year are to go to Cracker Barrel! I can't have anyone over at the house as we should have newborn puppies and I need to keep things quiet for the mommy. My mom does not want to cook this year, I offered to cook at her house but she said no. DH's family is going out of town. We did this several years ago and to my surprise Cracker Barrel was PACKED! This year it will be me, DH, DM, DF and DGM. We will probably go back to my mom's house for homemade pie (she did say she'd bake) and I will probably make a "Holiday Martini" :santa: for everyone to toast the holiday season. They are very yummy. Here's the recipe if anyone wants to make one. Take one ounce of cranberry flavored vodka, three ounces of white cranberry juice shake with ice in martini shaker, strain into martini glass and add a few cranberries to garnish. At Christmas I will add a couple of mint leaves too.
Enjoy!
Terrie:)

Good Morning.
This year for Thanksgiving we are going to be in Texas. We are going down to see my MIL and my Parents. My MIL moved down there permanently and my parents winter down there. They are only about 40 miles apart so we will get to see them both. So, for a change, I won't be cooking dinner like usual. DH says he wants shrimp. We'll see. :rolleyes1.

Good Morning everyone! Since we are Canadian, we celebrate Thanksgiving on the first Sunday in October, so Happy Thanksgiving to all my American DISboard friends! The one benefit of U.S. Thanksgiving, is that our Costco here in Mexico makes PUMPKIN PIE!! We can't get pumpkin pie here or even canned pumpkin, so it's a real treat!! I bought one and froze it for Christmas as well. It's those little "taste of home" treats that I find, that make me happy :)

Good Afternoon! Hope everyone is having a good day. My day is going well. I am home today due to car issues. I had to have it towed to the mechanic. Waiting to hear what is wrong with it. But, I am thankful. It was supposed to be a busy day for me at work today. However, late yesterday, all of my hearings were cancelled so, I did not have to do any rescheduling today.

Well I just found out last night that I'm having Thanksgiving dinner here at my house again this year for my mom's side. :goodvibes My brother said he'd have it at his house but for some reason now he's not. That's ok....I love my house and I love having people over. The best part is that my mom prepares the Turkey and a couple of side dishes and then I do a couple other dishes. Then on Friday (after we hit the sales in the early AM) my mother in law is having dinner at her house. It's so nice because then we're not all rushed to go to so many different places on the same day AND I don't have to offend anyone by not eating at their house! As for my dad's side....I have no idea what they're doing. I haven't been invited to any aunt/uncle/cousin/or even dad's house yet. So, who knows. That side of the family has kind of fallen apart since my sweet wonderful Grandma passed away (God rest her soul...I love her and miss her so much!). We used to always get together for EVERY holiday and since she died, it's kind of each immediate family has their own thing and we don't see all the cousins EXCEPT for CHRISTMAS!!!!
Well, that's my story for Thanksgiving! :goodvibes

My Gram was the same. Isn't it funny how one person can keep an entire family together (and make them behave!!) But it sounds as if your holiday will be relaxing and fun!!

Yeah, it's weird that ONE person can keep an entire family (40 some people in our case) together! I guess that's why they're called "GRAND"parents. ;)

Good Morning! It's FRIDAY!!:banana::banana::banana::banana: I love the weekends! I hope everyone has a good Friday. :goodvibes
Vedlin71 - as far as the FE, I have to make a new one since this cruise is just me and DH without the kids...I'm still trying to figure out how I want it. (My sister will make it for me since I don't sew OR I'll try my hand at sewing and see how it turns out) I had already bought a bunch of gifts before we even booked the cruise, so I've got that part taken care of. Now I'm working on home-made type ideas. I'm not very crafty so that's a huge challenge for me!

Yeah, its also weird how ONE person can tear an entire family apart :sad2: In our case its called "sister in law." I have other choice titles for her that she has earned but I'll stick with SIL here :lmao:
Staying home today. What I thought were allergies yesterday have turned into worse  I went to bed in a Nyquil stupor yesterday.

You said it Terrie! My FIL held my DH's family together and now that he has passed the SIL has torn it apart! And we have a few choice names for her too. Sounds like they could be similar names! :lmao:

I am so sorry  It's awful when someone can do something like that. More disturbing is when the spouse of the (insert choice one syllable word) doing the damage does NOTHING :confused3

Good Morning and TGIF:woohoo:
Hope you have a great day and weekend.:cool1:
This will be the last reminder for thread guesses. So far, the thread guesses are:
Luckymomoftwo guesses 3 threads
Monika & dvc4life guess 4 threads
Vedlin71 guesses 5 threads
Do I hear a guess for 6 threads, maybe even 7? :confused3 It's okay if more than one person guesses the same number.
You mean I can't wait until August to make my guess? OK, then, I'll say 5 also!
