My best friend and I are going to DIsney for a 4 day/3 night long weekend. We are thinking of doing the dining plan. My question is is it really worth it? I ahve been to Disney about 8 times and Have never gotten the plan. I wish we would have this past Feb when we went as a family cause I think it would have saved us $.

Will it really save us much $ to get it?

It depends. If you are like to go to a sit-down meal every day, then yes, it's worth it. The best thing to do, is see where you want to eat and price it out from the menus at allears.net. Add the CS meals & snacks, and see how it works out. I think you definitely save money if you want to do a meal a day.

Yeah we will surely do at least 1 sit down meal a day! That is what I thought but wanted to check.

It is just me and my husband and we save tons of money.
The DDP fits us perfectly, we like one TS meal a day and have to have another filling meal and snack inbetween.
Last time we went we paid for the plan and saved $130 in food, we ate as we would normally, so no frills, just stuck to what we liked and wanted.
This time we have FD so we are saving tons!!!!

I say for us it is worth it. Enjoy your trip.

It is going to depend on how you want to eat and how much you want to eat.

My friends and I do not get the dining plan. We usually eat at 2 credit restaurants (which are not a good deal on the dining plan) and want the option to eat at places that don't take it (Bluezoo, House of Blues, La Cava del Tequila, etc.) Generally I do not eat breakfast and I don't want a full CS lunch with dessert and then a signature dinner - that's too much food for me. I also don't like having to plan to use up credits. It can be difficult to use up all your CS credits sometimes.

Also, if you prefer to order appetizers and do not generally order desserts, the DDP can be restrictive in that you must pay for appetizers and the dessert is always included. You might be able to order an appetizer in lieu of your entree, but that will impact the value of the plan if you paid for it.

So it's entirely dependent on how much you eat, how you like to plan, and where you prefer to eat.

Me and DW did the DDP each of the past 4 years, this includes our trip just last week. Yes plan on a sit down or use 2 TS and go to the Hoop-Dee-Doo this would give you a day with no sit downs. It worked out great for us, you have do do some planning check the menues and see where you want to dine and make ADR's in advance. We usually go to EPCOT for 4-5 of our TS meals so we have to get the hopper pass tickets and get over to EPCOT each night for dinner but never had a problem. Works great for us and we always used all of our credits.

Ok so another question. I was thinking of doing the Hoop De Doo and paying for that then using 2 credits to eat the the Yachtsman. We ate there this past Feb and LOVED IT! We also did the HDDR which was fun. My girlfirend has never done it. I was also maybe thinking of the the Luau. Of the 2 which would you choose??

We LOVE the DDP. Actually we do the Dxdp and it's awesome. One great thing about doing dp is that it's already paid for when you get there. I am a BIG planner and like to know way in advance what's going on. If you decide to use the ddp, you will definitely have to make ADRs many months ahead of time. We've played with the numbers many times...is it cheaprer oop or using the ddp??? We have always come out way ahead with the Dxdp. Our family really enjoys sitting down and relaxing with great food. :thumbsup2

Happy Planning!

When we ate at Whispering Canyon Cafe for dinner one night, our bill would've been $92 for two adults. All we paid out of pocket was $20 for a tip! The dining plan is $40(?) a night per person? So, that meal alone would've cost as much as we paid for the plan and we still had 1 snack and 1 CS meal person for that day on the DDP. It's a great value, I think... :woohoo:

Love the ddp. Hoop de doo is way better than the SOA.

I've gone to the Hoop 4 times, last time being last week, and to the LUAU 1 time, so I would say I prefer the Hoop. But if you haven't gone to the LUAU you should try it at least once sometime.

DH and I get the DDP only when it is free. We don't care for the rigidity. I often order a salad and an appetizer, rather than an entree. There is a dessert included with all meals. We never would pay for dessert at a CS. That said, if you usually eat the way the plan is set up, then go for it.
