This weekend my SIL and I are doing the Half at the NC Outerbanks. Right now they are forcasting a high 40s/low 50s around the 7am start and the hight for the day is mid-60s. Would should be finishing around 10:30am.

I'm debating between a tank top and short sleeve... What would you wear?

Thanks
Stacie

Shorts, short sleeve, hat, socks & shoes. That's pretty much what I run a 5k in as long as the temp is at least 35 degrees, though it gets awful hot when it gets above 65 or so.

I too would wear short sleeves and take a throw away shirt with you for the start.

Runners World has a great tool on their site (http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/whattowear/0,7152,s6-240-325-330-0,00.html). You can plug in the conditions and are given suggestion. If you get really hot then the tank might be the way. I'd probably go with short sleeves and take throw away clothing.

Good luck with your event!

I am the person who starts sweating only 1/4 mile into the race , so I would do the tank top with a throwaway shirt.

My half in Sept was 38 degrees at the start, wore short sleeve tech shirt and shorts, worked out well.

Good luck on your race!!!

Below 55 the UA cold gear, above heat gear, with these tops I have never needed anything else.

I would probably wear one of the long sleeve tech shirts that were given to the Disney race participants. I also believe that I have a higher tolerance for long sleeves than most. A short sleeve shirt sounds good too me.

High 40's/low 50's. Are you kidding? I would wear long pants, long sleeve shirt with running jacket, gloves and ear warmers. I would probably take a throw away jacket though as you're right it might get a bit warm after a few miles.

The coldest races I've ever run are the Disney Marathon Weekend races. Since I do have to travel a couple of hours north to get to Disney that might explain it. Not sure what I would do with a 40 degree race.

enjoy,
Duane

I'd go short sleeves with a toss away shirt for standing around before hand.

Good Luck Stacie!!

FWIW - last couple of nights, I had run around the neighborhood, wearing a long sleeve tech and shorts, but no hat. On the other hand, it was 40 or so at the start, and the temps weren't going to go up, since I was starting my run at 8 pm or so. A bit warm by mile three, but otherwise okay. Had I been racing, I definitely would have worn a short sleeve, because I would have been pushing a lot harder.

(And I probably would not bother with a toss shirt, either. I have used them, but not for high 40s/low 50s.)
