Does ayone know anythign about this?

My 23 YO SIL just got out of surgery for meniscus work. They were hoping to clean up he rmeniscus. Just got word that SIL is OK, but the knee is not and the doc wants ehr to haev a meniscus transplant. I just got a short text, so I don't know any more.

I do NOT trust this hospital, though, and was wondering if anyone else ahd any experience with this.

No experience but I looked it up, have a look here: http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00381
http://www.orthspec.com/meniscus_transplantation.htm
http://www.umm.edu/orthopaedic/meniscus.htm

I go to the Mayo clinic and I looked on there site and it said nothing about a transplant, just if it could not be repaired then you might need a joint replacement.

Yeah, Mayo is our major hospital of choice. Was bummed that htey had nothing on it. SHe's too young for joint replacement, but I don't know that over 50% of teh meniscus is missing either. SOme recommend other treatmetns first. Just don't know. I'm hping Mayo is her next stop, though. She's too young to have someone mess her up. :-(

Thanks for looking!

On the Mayo site just type in meniscus and it will come up with a few things.

CAn't answer about meniscus transplant, but I had surgery on my meniscus about 20 years ago. It was torn and they had hoped to reattach it. When the Doc got in there, he said the ends were too frayed to re-attach so they removed the damaged part. When I asked, what would happen, he said I'd probably get arthritis earlier than normal.
SO far, so good. No major problems (said as I touch wood). Knee feels fine and hasn't stopped me from doing anything.

I would say most of my medial meniscus (iirc) It's been 20 years. Lateral meniscus still intact.
