How does this work? Thinking about dates for Sept/October (hoping for free dining, but you never know!) and my dd turns 10 on 10/20. If we started a trip on the 18th or 19th, would she get the children's dining plan the whole trip even though she was officially 10?
I want to take the trip before she turns 10, it seems silly to pay adult price for her when she'll be eating kids meals the whole time. If I have to make sure that we end the trip before her bday, I'll keep that in mind.

As far as Disney is concerned, kids remain the age they were at check-in until the end of the resort stay. So, your daughter would be considered "9" (child) for the whole stay.
This applies to room capacity, park tickets, and DDP.
Note, if you are getting free dining, you may want to consider upgrading your daughter to being an adult (junior) for the whole stay. Her park tickets will cost a bit more, but you would have a lot more flexibility in meal choices., if you want it. (If you don't think she'd want adult meals, then keep her at 9 and save the park ticket $$$.)

Its based on her age at check in so she would still be considered 9 for the week.

Great, thank you! That's helpful.
Now, if I could just read Disney's mind and figure out if they are going to extend Free dining in 2010 like they did in 2009! That was as first, I believe. I wonder if it was profitable and they will continue to do this.
Anyone remember when they announced the extension? It was way past the regular free dining, I think it was in August or something? :confused3

We are taking DD9 to WDW December 5-11 where, on December 8, she will magically turn into DD10. (BTW, she doesn't know about this so no telling!) We have decided, based on past evidence, That she won't want every meal from the children's menu. Last year, DW and I took turns eating the kid's food, so she can have an actual meal, especially at CS (she got sushi, I got stuck with chicken teriaki). So, for an additional $37, we registered her as an adult. This solved our problems with ordering food, especially at CS spots. It will allow us to do the Animal Kingdom picnic, since it would be 3 adult CS credits.
Heck, if we had realized this, we might have done it last year as well.:yay:

It's only an additional $37 if you're on free dining, because in that case you are only paying for the difference between an adult and child park ticket. If you are not on free dining, you will also pay the difference between the child and adult dining plan.
You could have done the AK picnic anyway. Although Disney specifies adult credits, the picnic has no children's menu, so they just use CS credits for either adults or children.
