Does anyone use Sharkies on long walks/runs?
I've been using Gu on my long runs for the past 18 mos and I'm getting to the point where I can barely look at it, never mind swallow it. The consistency and taste are just gross to me now. I bought Sharkies and tried them on an 11 miles run and everything seemed to be fine. I just have no idea how many Sharkies I should consume during my run or how often I should eat them.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! :goodvibes

Hi Julie - I use Sharkies and like them a whole lot better than GU (although I will use them sometimes). I buy both the regular plus kids variety and mix them in a ziplock bag so I'm not dealing with trying to get packages open on the run.
I generally eat about 5-6 of them at a time followed with a little water about every 20-30 min. Works for me - no stomach problems or anything.
Hope this helps.
The flavor of the Sharkies were too strong for me, though I have eaten a pack or two that I have had as a sweet treat. I instead use Honey Stingers. They aren't as chewy as say a shot blok, so they don't stick in the teeth as bad. I like the Cherry Blossom flavor as they taste like Luden's Cherry cough drops.

Katie ~ Where do you find the Honey Stingers? I am bad about taking my Gu or Shot Blocks. Last year I used Cliff Shots chocolate flavor and I can not even think about trying to eat another - I think it was the organic brown rice syrup that I don't like. I did try a Gu or Powergel - not sure which brand it was but it was strawberry banana flavor and that was pretty good - not a thick as some of the others. I think that was my problem before - the Cliff Shots are thick. I just don't know when to take them and how often so most of the times I don't end up using anything.

I like Sharkies so much more than Gu, but I just wasn't sure how many to eat or when to eat them. I've been having 6 of them about every 6 miles or so, which seems to be working for me. But it's nice to know that I could probably eat them every 3 or 4 miles and be ok.
Tricia: REI carries Honey Stingers if you want to try them. Since I know they work for me I usually order them by the case from RunningWarehouse.com.
