There is no way i'm going to be able to use my Treehouse Villa stay that I have booked before I lose it (expires May 31). Does anyone know if there is a way to donate the lodging to Make a Wish or Give Kids the World? I'd love it to go to good use, otherwise it will just be a loss. If anyone knows who to contact or how to do this please post here, thanks!!

If that doesn't work out you could donate the stay to a charity of your choice to be auctioned off at a charity event.

That's awesome that you are thinking of doing something so nice for someone. :thumbsup2

I'd start by contacting your local branch for those organizations. Talk to a manager and they'll know how they can use it.

That is so nice of you to think of donating that to someone else.

Sending you pixie dust! pixiedust:

Sorry no advice about how to do this just wanted to say good on you. And sorry that you can't use it yourself. Hope it's nothing too bad.

As for the contribution, i think i've read that there is no tax deduction for contributions when "giving away a vacation". Someone else here may be able to confirm or deny this.
I think it's nice you want to do this, but wanted you to know all the facts before considering this option if you also had this in mind. :thumbsup2

You should be able to donate to make a wish they are always accepting "wish" donations. I would start with them and they may direct you to Give Kids the World. But I think with GKTW everyone stays on their property. This is so nice of you- GKTW is my favorite charity and I donate to them every year.

That's correct. IRS laws prohibit taking a tax deduction in association with "partial use" (I believe that's the term used) of a timeshare. You could claim a deduction for donating the entire deed to charity, but not for one year's use.

Another approach you could consider is to cancel the reservation, rent the points and make a cash donation. The cash donation should be deductible if made to an appropriate charity.

Thanks for all the advice! I'm not worried about tax purposes, I wouldn't even claim it, I just want it to go to good use :)

It is my understanding that GKTW sometimes can use space for extended family or support, which is not part of the “core” family or those supporting the child’s needs.

All you can do is contact Disney directly....they currently have restrictions that have changed on many topics. Good Luck!

What a great thing to do!

If GKTW does not work out - I agree with a PP that donating to a local charity or school that you believe in is a great option - vacations are fabulous silent auction items.

Another option would be to see if your community has a Ronald McDonald House or pediatric respite care center (which provides temporary care to medically fragile children that need 24/7 care so that their caretakers/family can have time) - either place may be able to suggest a family that would be blessed by your gift.

Just my $.02 but unless you can find someone (like GKTW) who agrees they can use the specific 3 nights booked, I wouldn't just donate those nights for a silent auction. I can't see the value of the gift being maximized when it's tied to a specific resort, dates and room size.

In other words, the market for this item is limited to only people who want a Treehouse Villa for just three nights on whatever dates OP has booked. That's likely to yield a very small number of bidders.

Under those circumstances I'd either re-visit the possibility of renting the points and making a donation, see if you could convert the points into something with broader demand (like a Studio or 1B for 6-7 nights) or figure out a way to let the winning bidder choose his/her own dates as long as they don't go over the number of points you have. (The last option is tough because you never know what availability will be, and want to avoid giving bidders an incorrect view of their alternatives. You don't want someone thinking they will get BWV Standard View Studio on 2 months' notice.)
