Has anyone ever taken Lyrica and had weird side affects? I have this constant feeling of disconnect and dizziness and am trying to determine what it is from and I believe it is from one of my medications and I am wondering if it is my lyrica. What side affects have others had with Lyrica. I have been on it since March I believe for neuropathy reasons

I was on it for about a month and did not like it. I could not concentrate and felt like I was in a fog all the time (still do to some point, guess still getting it out of system), constantly thirsty. I told my Dr and he took me off of it right away. I was on it for my RSD issues.

Thank you for your response. I am thinking it is the lyrica. I took it about 45 minutes ago and now I just feel so out of it, I really can't explain how my head feels but I don't like it. I think I will talk about it with my doctor but I am not sure when I will go see her again.

When I first started it, I had dizziness, extreme fatigue, and out of it so much I had to sleep it off. However, that wore off after about a few weeks or so.
I would speak with your doc if you are still experiencing problems.
Good luck.

It was definitely worse when I started it but I still have it some. I wonder if I can just call my doctor because I am not sure when they will be able to fit me in, my doc is in an MS clinic and it is really hard to get appointments

when i feel that out of it, it means my lyrica dose is too high... so i had mine reduced....

The biggest side effect I had from the Lyrica was weight gain. Since I'm diabetic and it was prescribed for neuropathy, weight gain is a particularly bad side effect. I did feel kind of "out of it" and dizzy as well. My endo switched me to Cymbalta and I am still giving that one a chance. My neuropathy is better but it makes me feel just as much "out of it" as the Lyrica did.

I tried Lyrica for a few weeks at a low dose and felt the same way; just couldn't concentrate; really dizzy, nauseaus, and that"disconnected" feeling you describe. It wasn't getting any better so my doc said we'd try something else.

I had some pretty amazing weight gain with it. I've lost 4 sizes since I came off of it!
I also had the disoriented feeling, and kind of like the feeling like something was right on the tip of your tongue (or brain) but wouldn't materialize, if you know what I mean?
I still get the Fibro Fog, but its nowhere near as bad as it was. I'm now on Topamax, FWIW. We tried Savella, but it made me so nauseous that I couldn't hold my head up, so I don't know how well it would have worked. I'm holding Cymbalta in reserve in case Topamax ever quits working, but right now I'm really enjoying the weight loss and alertness this one is giving me.

May I ask what you tried after the lyrica?
We have cut my dose in half and I feel a little better and I think I may just stop taking it all together. I feel it is doing more harm than good. I appreciate everyone sharing their story with me. I felt I might have been crazy with how I was feeling but I am not!

My Dr took me off of Lyrica and put me on Votaren gel instead. It has helped with some of my pain issues (it isn't meant for the pain I experience with RSD, just muscular pain). It is much better than those nasty side effects of Lyrica.

It has been over a year since I came off of Lyrica. The main reason I came off of it was because it was messing with my vision. It also made me gain weight.

That's not good that you are losing weight because of other health issues!
I know you probably answeredthis on the other thread, but what did you try instead of the lyrica? Is it working better for you for the fibro?
Thanks
Steph

Before I couldn't loose the weight because of my then undiagnosed Celiac Disease. Now that I've been diagnosed and am on a proper diet I'm finally loosing weight. I'm happy about that!
When I came off of Lyrica I didn't go on anything else right away. But since my inflammation numbers were so high he put me on Mobic a few months later. I've been on that for over a year now. It doesn't really help with the pain. I take ibuprofen when the pain is at the worst. That is about the only thing that will take the edge off for me. I also keep Biofreeze on hand to rub on the worst spots.
But since going gluten-free I've had a lot less Fibro pain. I don't know if I was having so much body pain because my body had to fight the gluten constantly or what.

Yes, you did mention the Celiac on the other thread. THanks for the refresher. I have never been tested for that. I do have issues with IBS I know I have it, just not confirmed by the dr. yet.
I have heard about gluten free diets but have not tried it. I know since I have been eating more veggies I seem to have more problems. I have also had way more gas than usual since eating healthier.
I have had some symptoms recently that the dr. thinks is gallbladder, but I have not went for that test either. I am sick of tests.
I am looking for something to replace the lyrica but to help with the pain since I am trying to lose weight. I know I gained when I started on my meds. I hope it will not make it difficult to lose weight if I stay on the lyrica.
Thanks for answering my questions.

I understand what you mean about being sick of tests! It took 5 months of constantly being sick on my stomach to find out what was causing it.
The first test for Celiac is a simple blood test. Next time your doctor is running blood work see if he/she will do that one as well. I had gas issues as well before going gluten-free. When the do the test you have to have gluten in your system or the results will not be accurate.
I hope you find some relief soon.
