Silly Thing to Notice...Art in the Staterooms

Hubby thinks I'm totally insane, but does anyone else ever notice in art in the staterooms? I'm specifically thinking about the long framed picture over the beds. There are several styles, such as bars of music from Disney songs, but my favorite is a drawing of the ship with little circles showing what people are doing inside...one has a man lying on a lounger, one is a couple dancing, one is a chef cooking lobster, etc. Anyone else notice this? That was the main difference between stateroom 5650 on the Magic & Wonder...the Magic had music from "Candle on the Water" and the Wonder has my favorite. Any other favorite onboard art, anyone?
Also, an amusing anecdote about the photo of Walt and Lillian on board a cruise ship, which is in all the staterooms. I overheard some people talking a couple of cruises ago, and one said to the other, "That must have been taken on Premier because this ship was built in the 1990s." (Mind you, it is a sepia print from the Disney honeymoon...oh well, the Premier ships did look that old...ha!).

I also love the way that Disney has added "artistic" touches throughout. "Candle On The Water" is also a favorite song of mine. Helen Reddy singing the Tune from Pete's Dragon. We had some art in our room of some Pirate's. They kinda looked like they had had a few too many.

The little touches like the artwork is something I love about the Disney ships. My favorite has to be that picture of Walt and Lillian on the ship. Kind of makes me feel at home in my stateroom.

Thanks for the info on that picture, Barb. While in our room, I jokingly said to DH "That cant be real! The Disney Ships are new." LOL!

And Dave, you are so right! While in the airport after our recent cruise, a lady started talking to us. She asked where we had been and stuff. When we said on a Disney Cruise,she got all excited and yelled to her DH, "Hey, they were on the Big Red Disney Boat!" I just cringed!

We had the long artwork over the bed on our first cruse that said "dreams are a wish your heart makes"... is that perfect for over the bed or what! That was on the Magic.

We then had the musical bars on the Wonder. I am hoping for the "dreams" since we will be on the Magic again...

I took pics of the artwork in the staterooms for in my photo albums. I also took pics of the 'ship facts' pictures located in the hallway on deck#5 near the kids clubs. We passed them all the time on the way to our secret porthole rooms on the magic and I enjoyed reading them so much. My family thought that I was nuts for taking pictures of pictures.

I also took pictures of the Disney facts on Deck 5! I am an avid scrapbooker and made a page with pictures of the ship and used all those facts as part of the page. Everyone always comments on the facts! At least I am not the only one who took pictures of them!

Valerie - what a FABULOUS idea. I am a scrapbooker too and I would never have thought to do that. We are going to be on Deck 5 so I will be sure to take pix of those facts.

I have to tell you that if our room has the picture with the words to the Cinderella song, DD8 will flip out with joy. She has been Cinderella 5 times for Halloween, had 3 Cinderella b-day parties, and will still watch the movie anytime. Her obsession is so great that when we were in France last year, her big souvenir was a beautifully illustrated Cinderella book in French.

A scrapbooker cool beans!!! I also take pictures of all the restaurant signs and a lot of the misc signage on board. My favorite from our verandah is "do not throw objects overboard". I have no idea why but it gave me the giggles thinking of people lobbing their relatives overboard. (just kidding!)

Such great ideas. I am not the most creative scrapper out there, so I love to hear from people like you who are! My local store does Disney themed classes and such, and I think that after the cruise, I will go. They also sell these cool kits (all you have to do is cut & paste) and I recently bought a Cinderella kit; I am going to do a 2 pager of all the pixs of DD both in her Cinderella outfits and with the "real" Cinderella at MK.

What neat scrapbook ideas!
My husband is a compulsive photo taker, so he has photos of most of the stateroom art, as well as the ship facts and the nautical alphabet pictures and all of the artwork in the halls and restaurants. One of the "Candle on the Water" stateroom prints was for sale at the silent auction on our last Wonder cruise. If it had been the one with the ship w/cutaways, I would have definitely bid on it...it would look perfect in our foyer!

Whenever I tell someone we went on the Disney Cruise Line and they say "Oh, the Big Red Boat" I do a commercial for the DCL.

I have a photo we took at Nassau in 1999 with the MAGIC tied up near the Big Red boat. A young guest at our house saw that picture once and said "Oh, is that the Big Red Boat? I went on it once when I was little, it is dinky." I share that comment too. Then I show them other pictures of the ship that are in the little album that I carry in my fanny pack to show off my children and my cruise ship.

I also took pictures of the pictures. I like the circles on one of the landings of the midship staircases that are star charts with Disney constellations.

Speaking of Scrapbooking, I just got finished Scrapbooking 4 cruises. It took me a few weeks, but I love the finished product. I saved my "Keys To The World" The Cruise Tickets that show the price and all of my Navigator's. It is amazing how much stuff I had collected from 4 cruises. The hard part was getting it organized according to cruise and date. I bought the cutest cruise sticker's and everything turned out great. I even used the collector cards they give you at various placed through-out the Ship. Plus The little cards they leave on your pillow's at night.

I have found it pretty nifty that I have found scrapbookers and cruise addicts all in the same place! It just doesn't get much better than that! I am working on our cruise book right now from our 6/1 voyage. I always take a lot of ziplock bags to tote all the goodies home to scrap with. I even got the ships whistle on one of those recording buttons this time. My cruise books are the bulkiest of any of my albums because of all the goodies I just can not pass up bringing home. OK now that I have blown my cover and everyone knows that I am completely over the edge!:p

VALARIE: Many DIS members appear to pay attention to detail, love to reminisce and are creative people--therefore scrapbookers. ;)

Now--tell me about the recording button.... That is an item I do not know about and was sure I had covered all the bases in my Cruise scrapbooks. :D

A detail that interests me is that my Disney Cruise scrapbooks are 3 and 4 inch binders and my RCCL cruise is represented by about a dozen pages in chronological order in the scrapbook of the year..... HMMMM........What does that say about DCL? :)

Reading this thread has gotten me anxious to check out the art in the staterooms and the ship in general.

I'm not sure which resort it was that I stayed at, I think it is Port Orleans (now known as Port Orleans;French Quarter), all the art in the rooms were done by the resort CM's. Of course the art was great in my opinion. Adds a nice touch to it, not to mention something a little different.

What a great thread - hello to Barb/Tony and all who post...you've made our DCL trips soooooo special - our thanks!

I am, "Kevin from Arizona" - credit offered for forwarding an art booklet offered on the Magic - to Tony/Barbs awesome web site. Will say how wonderful it felt to "offer something back" to those who "educate" us all about DCL. We have always been better prepared than 80+% of those who cruise on these fine ships - because of people like you....our thanks. A special thanks to Barb/Tony for documenting this tour on your fine web site.

The artwork on both ships is wonderful...was glad to see a written leaflet about some of the pieces displayed. I sure wish Disney would offer something similar for the Wonder. If not a "written self-guided tour"...why not a guided tour - what a missed marketing opportunity by Disney, as well as, a chance to share some history about the ships artwork.

My favorite piece is also the one hanging over the bed on the Wonder - we liked it so much, we bought it during an on-board "silent auction".

My second favorite...the murals displayed in the customs area where you pick up bags after your cruise. Most, if not all, are in such a hurry they overlook these treasures. Hopefully, you will take a moment to review the rather large pieces around the customs area.

Well, Barb, you turned out not to be the only one noticing the art, and obviously it's not silly at all!

I cannot wait to check all of it out. One of the things that drew me to DCL is that I am a huge fan of Art Deco so it will be a huge pleasure for me to drive up to the beautful terminal building!

Ok the recording buttons. I am not sure of the exact name but I believe they are Memory Buttons. It is a small round disc with batteries in it. You can record anything for a 10 second (I think span) and it has an option of then taking a pin out so it can not be rerecorded over. (I did not do this and mine got messed up so I HIGHLY recommend taking the pin out!) It is small enough to easily fit in the palm of your hand. I took it to the pool one day on a sea day and when they did the ships whistle I recorded it. It turned out awesome!!! It has seen been messed up so I am going to take it back next year and re do it and then take the PIN out! I do have one at the house still in the package if anyone needs the exact name.

I never even saw those pictures in the luggage area! Ohhh, Kevin is very observant. I will definitely make sure that I look during the next cruise.
I also enjoy looking around the boarding area and finding the "hidden Mickey's".

Do you know if they have a tour of the ship other than on the day we board?
