Hope everyone else is doing better with training!

Jim you did fantastically!!! WHoo for you
Carrie it's so good to see you. Good luck with the massage- really hope it hits the spot. Did you have an amazing time?
Me so i ran 9miles on TM, aerobic fitness is climbing up and the ache is ignorable so we'll see what physio says. Did another 3.1 miles this morning before heading to work, again TM so need to get back out on the road. Can't wait for Bonfire Night and fireworks on saturday..... nothing takes me back to Disney as fireworks do :)
Keep it up everyone

Kate - Glad you are feeling better. Please be careful, though. ToT was ok. Just oo late fr ome and even what we call a casual day at WDW i stoo much pre-race for me. Still took 5 min off from 3 years ago and was happy with my race. The vacation itself was amazing! Had one of our best trips ever. Sadly, reality hit hard when we got home. One of our kitties had died. He was getting older, but we never suspected he was getitng that old. Very, very sad. Our other kitty has not taken it well either. getitng a bit better every day, but not the homeocming we wanted, that's for sure.

carrie so sorry to hear about ur kitty- totally understand how your feeling, but i imagine he's had an awesome life with you.
lily do you have the batteries now? do you, do you? that's a good sign that you're loving the wii!
Ken lovely to see you with some fantastic mileage too! Keep it up and pop in when you can.
Me ummm not sure my run/walk deserves a post today- 4.5miles. Found my way to the racecourse and ran round that, but so out of breath and I don't know how many times i turned my ankle. On the up side, luck has to change soon right!?!? Oh I'm looking forward to a flu free winter- got seasonal and swine flu vaccines as frontline NHS staff we're encouraged (blackmailed!) into having it! Can officially say it didn't hurt which was nice :)
Hopefully i'll be popping in on sat to post a fantastic run :lmao:

Happy Thursday Warriors!!!
It's FINALLY beginning to cool off (somewhat) in NE Florida, but along with the cooler temps (by cooler I mean the low - mid 70's) we have been getting a lot of strong winds.
Workout time has been somewhat pinched by the "Real World" (& College Football....... Hey, priorities. ok? ). I got in a 4.7 mile run down in Celebration on the 2nd. I WAS going to run yesterday, but got the assignment of painting my DD's bedroom instead, so I was not able to go.
But TODAY I made up for it. Biked 51 1/4 miles this morning (in the aforementioned winds) and (with a 3 hour break) ran 5 3/4 miles this afternoon. Total of 56.9 miles in 4+02 total. And. My. Legs. Are. A. Bit. Tired.
That's it so far kids. You guys all rock!

Jim, wow! That is some mileage! Way to go man!
Carrie, hope the massage works today.
Kate, glad you are feeling ok after taking the steps. Here's hoping that the weekend mileage is good.
Ken, good to see you pop in. Hope all is well.
I have gotten the batteries for the Wii! LOL! OMG, what a silly thing. For those of you who have me on FB, I've explained my mistake there. (Low battery message and I thought it was remote. Turns out it was for the board.) Doh! I spent all kinds of time charging those -motes and searching for a solution as to why I kept getting the message. Well, that was yesterday. Today I woke up, and I magically realized the error of my ways. Egad!
Got some steps in, some other stuff too. Getting moving. 14 miler for the weekend. Dreading it.

Hey Warriors, welcome to November.
Carrie, sorry for the loss of your kitty. Rough week, as our oldest dog went to heaven as well. I guess they're chasing each other at the Rainbow Bridge.
Glad to see everyone keeping up their miles and workouts. Doing my usual 36 miles a week, and about to start tapering soon. Turkey Trott 10 miler on Thanksgiving, and then Honolulu Marthon December 13th.
Waiting to hear if Marcia is going to make it out or not. She's debating. Will be meeting up with Tracy & Chester, who will be fresh off the Las Vegas Marathon the weekend before. Also will be seeing Annie, a fellow ROTE member here for our race.
Have a great weekend everyone. I'll be working on shower repairs with Guru Les. Ripping out the tile, new drywall, re-lining, and then re-tiling and grouting. Never a dull moment being a home owner, is it?

Hello Warriors!!
After work I headed to the park by my house to do my miles-4.20 and was great! The temp was 78!! FInally here is South Florida it cooled off just a bit!
I am not able to go to my favorite "dump" after work as the park doesn't have lights and with the time change they close at 6pm. UGH!! Oh well.
Waking up this morning to 70 degrees!! Whoo hoo!!:cool1:
Jim: Nice work there and glad youare getting some cooler weather up there in North Florida!
Have a great weekend Warriors!!

Tracy - 31 here. Ugh. But I do better runnign in 31 degrees than 70. Pitiful, I know.
Jeff - Yes, I saw your post on your dog on FB, right after I posted about my kitty. I think i posted a comment, btu I know I didnt' have many wordsleft at that point. ((hugs)) Thanks for the smile, though. The thought of your dog chasing my cat was funny. I'm sure my cat is sprawled out somewher, getting very tired jsut wathicng your dog run around. Hoping the 20 YO cat I grew up with is laying right beside him. I hope you are comforted that your dog is not sufferign any more and is runnign and playing. BTW, very cool tha tyou will see Chester adn Tracy adn maybe Marcia too!
Had my massgae last night. SOre today, but the berve painis gone. Plus, the therapist seemed very innto Disney racing and is thinking about the Princess. :goodvibes

Hi everyone!
I've been terrible with catching up on posts the last couple weeks! At least I'm still getting the miles in, though. I ran a Halloween 10K last Saturday and took the prize for the fastest woman in costume.... I was the only woman in costume, but shhhhh. :rotfl2: It was a brutal course that involved 4 loops around a park, and a steep uphill on wet grass. Ugh. I then got in my longest run to date, 15 miles, on Sunday.
As for this week, I took Tuesday off because I had a really early doctor's appointment, and then did my 4 miles yesterday indoors on a treadmill, as it was really storming.
I've been having some arch pain and suspected that my shoes were dying (they're now just past 300 miles, and Nikes seldom last much past that), so I went to REI to pick up a new pair of my Nike Air Max Moto's today. Thankfully, I tried them on first, because they changed the style in the switch from version 6 to 7 and they no longer will work for me. My arch on my left foot is slightly farther back and so I can have problems (ie. dislocated bones in the bottom of my foot!) if the heel support interferes with my arch. The really great sales guy at REI actually pulled EVERY pair of neutral running shoes in my size for me to try on.... I went with another pair of Nikes, the Pegasus 26. I'm not a huge Nike fan, but I have gotten used to the narrow heel and the "bouncy" feeling in them (the reason, I suspect, that they only last 300 miles) so they felt the most like "my" running shoes. We'll see how it goes; I'm not really happy with the change, but I don't really have much choice right now.
Carrie and Jeff: Sorry to hear about the loss of your pets. It's so hard when an animal that you have had for so long passes away, but it is comforting to know that they are in a better place. The 15 year old dog that I grew up with died in March, and it was really tough to let him go, but at the same time almost a relief; he had been dealing with cancer and severe arthritis for several years, and it's so nice to know that he's not in pain anymore.
I'm off to bed; hope to get an early start on my run tomorrow!

Hey everyone-
Carrie so pleased the massage hit the spot.
Jeff really sorry about your dog too, it's wonderful that you have such a clear image of him bouncing around tho.
Jim i would love to see anyone who thought intervals full stop were easy-never mind 800m ones!!!!
Sarah eek very good job you tried the shoes on. I never actually expect them to change that much from one season to the next. 300 miles isn't a whole lot of time once you hit the mileage you're doing now really is it? I def think it's worth it to avoid dislocated toes tho!!!! that's horrific. Also :rotfl: at the thought of you being the only costumed female. Well done for getting into the spirit!
I had a shocking day on friday following what i think was a reaction to having swine and seasonal flu vaccines together. A few colleagues were off too, very achey and sick. Although one day of fluish symptoms still beats a whole week of them.
BUT... got up sat feeling ok and armed with ride shot sweeties and headed out to try to prove to myself that i can still run. So got to 2.2 miles and had to take a 30sec walk break...... didn't stop again until 10.06 miles!!!! (oh apart from to cross roads!). Took 1hr 28 so feel ok again now:) VERY tight calf but totally worth it! Went to a fab firework display last night too, mum and I were both singing disney songs to go along with them tho as it was too quiet! Off to visit a friend and her baby in a bit so it's turning into a good weekend :rolleyes1:woohoo:

Jeff, sorry about your dog. I missed your FB post. It is never easy to lose our pets, but knowing your doggie is running around pain free chasing Carrie's cat and playing is good.
Carrie, glad the massage helped.
Tracy, glad you've got better weather to get in those steps now.
Sarah, glad you got in miles but sorry it was on TM. Ugh on your weather. Hope your shoes continue to feel great. Yay for new shoes!
Michelle, great to see you! Good luck today with your miles.
Jim, you are amazing with your w/o schedule. Good job!
Kate, so amazing that you were reactive to the shot, but managed a great run yesterday! Way to go!
I got in my 14 miles yesterday, very back of the pack pace, but I did get it done. I still do not have the distance at pace, but I am continuing on with training. I definitely did not have the rest of the marathon in me yesterday.
I hate to think of January just now.

Hey Warriors! I just updated my time on the sheet. Tracy or whoever can edit the formula, I think maintenance is needed at least on Jim's total for this month. Jim, I looked at your miles and hours and I'm thinking that is impossible! Yup, it is. There are some formula gaps. I sure hope none are missing in the other months. I was not able to assist with the formula correction.
Carrie, thanks for worring about overtraining and me. Naw, not happening. I'm not pushing the speed on a lot of the steps I take. Many are Kirby walks, but I do count them in my totals. I've got some bicycle/stationary bike miles in some too. Thanks for worrying. Truly, I need to be a little more persistant with the real part of the training and I'm trying to do that a bit more diligently.
Michelle, good job on those miles even if you didn't feel the love.
Today was pilates, Kirby walk and maybe stationary bike later. Happy training!

DId 60 min last night. Was ok after teh rust came off my legs.. Beautiful running weather. Did alittle ebtter than expected. Hip is not thrilled today, though. Not, awful, but I think I will do a pool run Thursday and hope i'm ok for Saturday. That's jsut 8, though. I really need to be better for teh 16 the following week. Starting to worry a bit now. Trying to take my own advice, though. It's better to be healed and undertrained than injured come race day. (Feel free to remind me of this if healing does not come soon)

Heigh Ho Warriors!!!
Today was one of those "swing & a miss" kind of days for me.
Yesterday I actually (for the first time EVER!!!) left work mid-shift (actually about 4 hours in..........) & came home because I was not feeling well. In the middle of a call I started to get nauseous with some dizziness, sweating & hot flashes. Either I was getting ill or going through the beginning of menopause (have not decided which yet...........................). Bleh.
Came home & slept curled up on a recliner for about 6 hours without moving a bit. I felt somewhat better this morning, so after doing a few chores I decided to go out and run a few miles...........................................
.....................................which was not the most intelligent decision I have made recently.
Long story short, I bailed out after about 3 miles and called it quits for the day.
Maybe back at it tomorrow, maybe not. Time (& Tropical Storm Ida) will tell.
You all are doing great. Time until the You-know-what grows short. Keep at it!

Managed my typical 8 1/4 miles today. A little slow at the start after last Sunday's long run. Waiting for our waivers to arrive for the Honolulu Marathon next month. Should be arriving any time now.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. I feel much better today. Not FASTER, just BETTER :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: !!
I put in 9.1 miles today. Breezy, cloudy & intermittent showers greeted me today. When I got home I was not sure whether I was soaked due to sweat or rain. But all in all, not a bad morning.
T - 56 days and counting!!

Jim: NIce work and sooooo glad you are feeling better!!
Katie: Good to hear you didn't have more than just a day of feeling yucky. Love that you had a good run! Keep stretching those lower legs.
Carrie: Hey girl, you sound like you are getting in some good training!
Quote for the day:
“Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”~ A. A. Milne.
AFM: Training for the Spacecoast Half Marathon is coming along pretty well. I am doing a 1.5 min jog with about a 6 min racewalk and its working good. I did 4 miles tonight after work with an average 13:13 mile and I wasn't pushing it, so I know I can go faster. I am now in taper mode as my last long mileage of 12.5 miles was this past Sunday. I have 2 weeks and 3 days until the race!!!
So how is everyone doing with your training?
What has been your longest miles to this point?
Don't forget to be trying things now like hydration, gels, sports beans, blocks or whatever NOW and not on race day. Try to find the sock/shoe combination that works best for you. Find and remember the places that start to rub/chaffe more the more miles you go and use your BodyGlide.
ALSO PLEASE ALL January Disneyworld Race Participants, We are meeting before the WISH meet!! Friday, January 8th.
Meeting just across from the checkin/front desk area at Pop Century at 4pm. Let's get to match faces to names and take some photos!! Then we will walk over to the WISH meet in the food court when it starts at 4:30pm.
Have a good weekend everyone!

Hey hey,
Good work Tracy and i loved that quote! Very inspiring :) and wonderful. 2 weeks and 3 days til the race has really come around- you're doing so well with the jog walking and those times are really seeing the improvement too :woohoo:
Jeff sorry you're training buddy's back is bad- every mile's a mile more tho :)
Jim You're scared message really just spelt out how I'm feeling too- time seems to be vanishing! So pleased you're feeling much better tho, who cares about speed?!? Hope you're staying safely away from the winds!
me had a fab 6.2 miles on TM on tues and it was a proper social event- saw lots of lovely people from work and running club who i've not been out with for a few months.Inspired me to try a run out with them next week calf/shin dependent. Not so good 3.6miler yesterday- know exactly why tho as just got up and ran, no food and no water= kate doesn't get very far! The weather's been nasty here past 2 days, very heavy rain so hoping it's all gone for tomorrow's run. Did a serious amount of christmas shopping yesterday so feel very proud ... and so ready for santa! he he
Longest run in this build up so far is just over 10miles :rotfl: :lmao::rotfl2:
Can't wait to see you all in Jan and bring my mummy along too :cheer2:

Kate: Good to hear that you're getting out there for some longer runs, after all your shin problems this fall! And seriously, you're Christmas shopping? Wow! I usually get mine done.... oh.... around December 23rd. :lmao:
Jeff: The unplanned short runs can sometimes be a nice break; also, miles is 6 miles!
Tracy: Congrats on making it to the taper for your November half! Good to hear that the jogging seems to be paying off, without too much more wear and tear on your body!
Jim: Is it seriously 56 days? Like, really? I'm about to have a panic attack, here.
Me? I'm taking a bit of a break this week. I'm having some shin pain (*headdesk*) so am trying to take it easy. I have 9 miles on the calendar for Saturday, and 17 miles for Sunday.... we'll see how much of that gets done. I don't want to miss my long run on Sunday, so Saturday's run might get scrapped. No point killing myself with back-to-backs before the Goofy, right?
Also, we're meeting with this pretty little girl (http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15066898) tomorrow, so this might throw a wrench into the weekend's running plans. I know that we are positively batty for even considering a second German Shepherd in our downtown apartment, but... we have a weakness for homeless shepherds and she sounds like a perfect addition to our family. We've been pre-approved for adoption, pending Jack and her getting along, so I'm crossing my fingers that Jack decides Sasha can stay.
Now I'm off to go clean the apartment, because if we do end up with another snuggle-shepherd, nothing else will get done all weekend! :goodvibes Happy weekend, Warriors!

I'm plodding away. This weekend is 8 miles. It will be hot for me in the 60 range. I like it a bit cooler. I'm glad it's 8 miles and not 16.

Sarah sasha is beautiful! Random question for when you adopt her (because you clearly will!)- would you change her name or keep it? I've always wondered that! Eek for your shins- take lots and lots of care and i'll be thinking of you.
Lily Enjoy your 8miler and the warm weather- make the most of it before it vanishes!
Me OK i did it- 11.16 miles in 1hr 39. Really struggled to warm up the shin and my mind for the first 3-4 miles, that urge to stop is really bugging me! Then it was pretty much plain sailing! A few out of breath moments when i hit small inclines- hill fitness has died, but i just don't care as things feel in grasp now. Have my first running lesson on thursday since shin probs so hopefully we'll tackle the head stuff- he's fab with confidence building.
Hope you're all havinh wonderful weekends and looking forward to reading all about them

So, I missed my run today, but did gain a family member:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh128/scrwaugh/DSC01039.jpg
Here is Jack (always the little attention hog!) with our new family member, Sasha! I tried for the total limit of her "stay" time to get her to perk her ears up for the photo, but that will have to come with time. She's incredibly friendly and confident, but gets her "submissive ears" on whenever she's interacting with someone. We knew it was probably going to work out when, within five minutes of meeting each other at a dog park, a boxer took a snap at Sasha and Jack leaped to defend her. :rotfl: She's a great big (could stand to lose 5-10 lbs, so we'll have to work on that!) cuddle bug who greets everyone with a wagging tail!
Ok, and to answer the couple questions:
Lily: Both Jack and Sasha have been "altered" so there will be no baby shepherds. They're awfully cute, but I think 2 is the limit for our apartment! :lmao:
Kate: We did decide to keep her original name, in this case. In cases where the dogs have been dropped off at the shelter, the rescue group always changed their names; this is to remove any negative association that the dog may have, such as in a case where the dog has been abused. For example, because Jack was dropped off at a shelter, his name has been changed; he was originally Tucker at his first home, and then Thunder at his foster home. However, since Sasha was surrendered directly to the rescue by her owners and they know her complete history, she got to keep her name in her foster home. We could have changed her name, but decided that she simply is a Sasha. And she looks so happy and excited when you call her to you by her name!

Yo Warriors.
How's everyone doing with their miles and smiles? Good I hope.
Did a short 16 miler, great conditions despite some headwinds. Good times with training group.
Have a great week everyone.
P.S. Nice looking German Shepherds. They look hungry, LOL.

Sarah - Congratulations on the new edition to family! She is beautiful and happy!
I'm glad everyone is getting their miles in and no one has reported any serious injuries....so I guess we'll all be making the trip in January! Whoo hooo!
I ran the Big Sur half marathon this morning, and it was beautiful! I didn't look at the course before the run on purpose and boy was I surprised! Beautiful scenic views of the coast, an out and back for about 4 miles, but it is all along the coast with a golf course on the other side! WOW does it get any better than that. The weather started out cold, but quickly warmed up around mile 2 or so, sunny and no winds! And the finishers medal is made of clay with a leather necklace tied onto it. This 1/2 is trying to get GREEN certified this year. Solar power at the start and everything is recycled! Only in California!

Sarah - what adorable fur babies! So glad Sasha found a good home!
Marcia - Big Sur...I'm jealous. I would love to do that one some day! Glad you had a beautiful day for it!
Kate - Hope the shin stops giving you problems, but it sure hasn't stopped you from being a speedy little thing!!
Hope everyone else had a good training weekend! Did my 20 miler this morning... Every session over that 13 mile mark has been hard, with me thinking at the end that there is no way I could have gone any further. And yet I go back out the next week and go further. So I hope that proves true for the next 6 miles too!
Have a great week Warriors!

Hey Warriors,
I just wanted to let you know something that happened to me recently. On November 1 I was lined to at the start of the Augusta (Ga) Half Marathon. The gun goes off and off we go. At about the .5 mile point of the race I had settled into a nice 8:45-8:50 pace when disaster struck. The loop on my left shoe catches my right toe as it comes through stride. Now mind you the shoe itself was not untied the loop bounced just right and cought my toe. It probably would not happen again in 1000 races. Well, down goes Frazier! I picked myself up pretty quickly and surveyed the damage. No scrapped knees, one small scrape on the left hand and a little road rash on the right forearm. O.K. I can keep going. That is when I tak a couple of steps and realize that my arm is not going down to my side like it should. I stretch it a little but nope, something is definately wrong. At this point I head back to the start area where the medical folks take a look at me and tell my yep, your shoulder is out of place. Of course this is the first time they have had a dislocated shoulder in a running event and i was also their first customer of the day. They lay me down and pull on my arm a bit. Finally one says he thinks he felt it slip back into place. I get up and yes in deed I can once agaon put my arm down to my side. Here is the crazy thought that went through my mind. "Hey, it really isn't hurting that bad and I am sure you can catch up to the walkers. It has only been about 15 minutes. Lets get back on the course." Well, common sense took over and I headed to the car to go get an x-ray. Nothing broken except my pride!!!
Just to update everyone, on Tuesday I was back running. A little sore but back on the road. I actually ran 4 Teusday, 8 Wednesday, and 7 on Thursday. Unfortunately I caught a blasted cold and was out all last week. I look to get things back in gear tomorrow.
Moral of the story - Double and tropple knottign is not enough. Make sure to chedk the size of the loop also.

Wow Ken! What an amazing story. I'm so glad you are ok. I will learn from your experience.
Sarah, what a lovely fatty girl. I know she will be happy in your home.
Michelle, good job stretching those miles. I'm waiting for the time this session when I finally can say I can do this event. More scared as I get closer, but I am determined to keep trying.
Marcia, good job on your half. I got one of those "green" medals at the Erie half. It was made of recycled glass with a "deer hide ribbon." I'm worried it will break as I am preparing a display. It is tucked away separate from my others.
Kate, you are doing so well. You will definitely be able to complete the event. If anything goes wrong worst case is it will be slower than you want.
I got in 8.75 miles this weekend. I have no idea what is up, but I've got a new ache. The side of my lower leg is aching and I have no idea what it is or how to help myself. It runs just below the knee to about half way down the side. Feels like a muscle cramp. Ugh.

Wow, Ken!!! That is an amazing story and I am sure one you won't soon forget. I probably would have thought, oh I can catch up to the walkers. haha. Glad to know that you are recovering nice from the dislocated shoulder and the cold!! Keep up the good work!

Happy Monday Warriors!!
A beautiful day in NE Florida. I put in 5 miles in 45 min on Friday, and 6.25 in an hour today.
I did not get any miles in over the weekend due to work & College Football (hello.................priorities!!!!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2). I went to the UCF vs. Houstion game & it was, without a doubt, the most exciting, fun football game I have been to in years. Go Knights!!!
The bad news - I am starting to suffer from (what I think is ) plantar fasciitus in my left foot. Ugh. Lots of tape & ice for a while. This could not have come at a WORSE TIME!!!!!! I have a 1/2 M next week & the you-know-what in just a few weeks. Can't stop running, so I guess I have to just be really careful. Probably no PR's are in the cards for this fall.
Bleh. But it beats being a couch potato any day.............
ETA: t - 47 days until Donald & Goofy, Part 1, 48 days until Mickey.
KEN - Be careful. Shoelaces are deadly. Hope the shoulder heals quickly! Just a note - I tape my loops down.

Michelle - We never hit more than 20 for our full training. Those 6 always come just fine. (OK, they are not fun miles, but we finish) Grat job!
Sarah - COngrats on Sasha!
Jim - You should take a break. I would seriously not run befpre your half. You will not lose a thing and those legs adn feet may thank nyou for it with a great race! I had one full where I was sick and got 1 30 min run in ion teh last 2.5 weeks before the race. i was amazed at how happy my legs were for teh race. (That's a bit long of a break, but a short break or 2 would not hurt at all)
Kate? can you work on my Xmas shopping? Hope you get ina fun gruop run soon! ;)
Marcia - Congrats on Big Sur! Glad you had such a beautiful place to race!
Jeff - Hope the partnerr's abck gets better soon! Glad you took it easy on him! ;)
Tracy - LOVE teh quote! Funny, they put this in a Pooh special (the one where Christopher Robin goes to school). I thought all the Diney specials these days wer just done by Disney. Cool that they are still basing them on AA Milne stuff.
Got my 8-mielr in. SInce it had been almost a month since my half and 3 weeks since ToT, I was worried that it would nto feel liek a short run. I was very pleasantly surprised. ALso had a good 60 min run last night. Yay!!!

9.25 miles in 90 minutes today. I found information on how to properly tape my foot & it helped out sooooooooooooo much.
Except where the tape rubbed blisters on the side of my foot, but that's a small price to pay. it actually feels pretty good right now, but that's it for anything close to a LR through next Thursday.
I have work tomorrow (& a timed swim assessment :scared: ), so no running for at least 48 hours, and probably (if common sense applies.....) not until monday.

I slacked last night. Got a blister on my foot from working in boots that weren't as broken in as I thoguth. :sad2: I needed the excuse, though. Body's tired. Hoping velcro kitty will stop needing to sleep on top of me soon.:upsidedow

Jim, you are a piece of work man. Amazing. Hope the PF eases for you. Right, slow it down and you should get it done January.
Carrie, sorry about your interrupted sleep.
Michelle, are you planning on doing more than 20 miles before January? I've gone 22 instead of 20 on my first marathon and discovered that it was not necessary. Take it easy on yourself as the miles get bigger. You don't want to risk injury.
Hope everyone stays healthy as time is getting close.

Hey Warriors!!
Checking in.
Jim: PF? Ugh, had it is both feet. Not much fun and took over a year for the one to go away and about 4 months for the other one.
I went to the Massage therapist and she found a nice orange size knot in my upper right hamstring and my right Upper ITband it very tight. The butt/hip area. So she worked on them for me while I bit my lip - OUCH! So, strecthing has been the order of the day and I try to do it throughout the day.
I have planned a WISH Virtual Turkey Trot 10K. Look for the thread if anyone is interested.
I have my Half Marathon coming up in 1 week and 3 days. Tapering is going good and with the tight IT band that works out well. Taking it easy and not pushing anything.
Hopeing everyone is doing well and hanging in there!!

HOep stretching and taper do teh trick ofr you. DO you have The Stick? Works well on knots like that. Again, it hurts, but....
Did 50 min on the TM last nitght. Ihate how slow I am on teh TM. Know I did better than the first TM of the season, though. Actually enjoyed myself fdor anout 1.5 to 3 min. lol. I hate the TM. Happy Friday Warriors!
No working out today. Just sitting here with my foot taped and iced trying to heal.
Kinda' in a bit of a taper mode for my 1/2 next Thursday. I work tomorrow and teach all day Sunday (which means a lot of standing, which is not good, but money talks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,).
I'll probably do a bit of a short run on Monday & Wednesday & that will be it.
Hoping to break my "double secret" time goal. Time will tell.

Got my 16 miles done today. It sure was not pretty, but at least it is done. I've managed it just barely within time. Right now there was not another 10.2 miles in me. Crunch time will be interesting here for me. Oh well, it will be what it will.
Glad to hear that some of you are tapering for your upcoming events. Here's hoping that this will work magic for you.
smileyk8
11-22-2009, 11:23 AM
Lily YOU DID IT tho!!! Don't forget that. 16 miles is brilliant and there's still lots of time for that extra 10.2. Plus the magic will make those miles shrik away.
Tracy secret PR hey? I think that's fair enough. Agh enjoy your taper especially with your beautiful orange size beastie! Man how do those things ever make themselves?
Jim so sorry to read about PF, but equally thrilled the taping worked. Take care tho- not sure 44miles on the bike is you taking it easy!
Carrie Ha 1.5mins of enjoyment is def an improvement if i remember rightly. In a couple more years you'll love the whole run   Rain always wins- i've learned that over the years. I would absolutely do your christmas shopping- trying to hold back on wrapping until december... it's so hard :rotfl:
ken that is a good moral for us to remember, but sorry you had to find it out!
Michelle :woohoo: for 20miler. You did fantastically. I always convince myself that once you're psyched for a certain distance you couldn't mentally go further so who knows what you could have done if you had set your warrior mind to it! I don't plan to run any further than 20 and i'll be pushing it to make that now. Injuries have to come first this time. Did 21.3 before Boston- accidentally, not sure it made any difference.
me went for a confidence boosting run with instructor on thurs- we covered 6.0 miles in 51mins and didn't take it gently at all despite the plan. He was a bit eager to go for a fast run i think! Then beat the rain yesterday to do 12.35miles.... did it a little slower at the beginning and didn't have such strong urges to stop so obviously i'm pushing it too hard usually. Took 1hr 49 mins and my shin is ANGRY. Hopefully it'll go down again soon :goodvibes
So.... what date do your christmas decorations go up over there?

Way to go, everyone! It's really starting to hit crunch time now, isn't it? Today is my 45 day pay-by (but of course I got excited and paid it off early! :goodvibes ) date for my Disney package, so it's actually starting to feel real!
I got out for 8 miles yesterday, and 18 miles today, both chilly runs in the rain. I'm so tired of the rain here in Seattle - my regular path was a lake in some places. My run today was definitely not pretty; I had to walk mile 12 and then did a run 3 minutes/walk 2 minutes pattern for miles 13-17, before giving up and walking the last mile home. I also got "jumped" by two Golden Retrievers on retractable leashes (I HATE those things! Um... the leashes. I like Goldens.) right at mile 17 and ended up with my brand new Nikes FULL of mud, after stumbling into the soaking wet grass. I also might have shouted several choice words at the owner.... I was tired and annoyed and suddenly had freezing cold wet feet. I'm so tired of all my grumpy stories involving loose dogs. The perils of running with a German Shepherd that is irresistible bait to other dogs, I guess.
I definitely felt like I was done after mile 18. I really like your "mental distance block" theory, though, Kate. It makes me feel better!
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

11-23-2009, 03:35 PM
Hey hey,
Beginning of the week is the only time you'll see me in the gym before an early work start! By 6.45am i was peddling away to get in 9.3miles in 30mins so could get a shower and be on time. Worked a treat :) Calf's very bruised but i think that's good as it means the knots are releasing right?
Sarah those dogs sound very annoying- actually i was driving mum home from work and a cocker spaniel was on one of those leads on the pavement (oh sidewalk!) next to us. The owner wasn't watching and it ran into the road right infront of the car. Had to break. Hard. Owner just shook his head!!!!!

Tracy, chin up freckles!
Carrie, calling me "nuts" is a compliment. Thanks!
My training partner Les had his third epidural today for his stenosis of his vertebrae (impingement of his spinal nerves). Rats, that means he'll come out running stronger, thus making it more difficult for me to keep up. After this, he's hoping for back surgery in January, and will be laid up for 3 months.
Our other training partner is experiencing bouts of dizziness. Her doctor said she's dehydrated. I told her to drink more beer and wine. LOL.
So, I went solo today for my 8 1/4 miles of mind clearing therapy.
Next up turkey trott 10 miler. Not allowed to wear a watch, Garmin, or Ipod. You must predict your finish time down to the second. Closest to their predicted time wins the prize. Two years ago my friend nailed her time to exactly 2:00:00, and won two interisland airline tickets. Other years, winners have been off by only 3-5 seconds.
On top of that, a three team competition of 15 members each have to predict their total combined times. Penalized for coming in under your predicted time. "Speed kills" is the theme. Winner holds onto the turket trott banner for a year. We lost the first year when just two teams were battling. And the second year we came in last out of three teams. Some of us just don't know how to slow down.
Cost is $3.00, no medal, no t-shirt. Lots of prizes.
The goal is to run your marathon pace for 10 miles, so you can stick with it on marathon day.

Just checking in as I did my WISH Virtual Turkey Trot 10K this morning. Nice way to start Turkey day.
THANKS to everyone who is thinking of me. Jeff, like you said getting out there is like therapy. Around mile 2 today I actually broke down in tears as things just all came bubbling up with emotions and everything. However, it is a good thing and helped to get myself a bit centered. Happy Thanksgiving Warriors!!
I am thankful today for my life, my kids, my beautiful wife. I am thankful that, in this crappy economy, I am fully employed (& that my wife is also !!). I am thankful for my (relatively) good health and (sort of good) fitness level.
And I am thankful for my Warrior buddies to keep me motivated! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
I did the Outback Classic 1/2 Marathon in Jacksonville this morning. Not exactly my best effort or result, but I think that's an indicator of the work I need to do ....... Finished in 2:12. Not close to a PR. The first 7 miles was flyin' & I felt really good. But the hips began to tighten up around Mile 9 & the calves followed shortly thereafter. I was really cramping in the calves for about the last 2 miles, but managed to finish running & standing, so it was a good day. Another medal to hang & bib to frame................. Surprisingly, my PF in my left foot did not really bother me during the run, but hurt a lot about an hour afterwards................
And finally, I am thankful for the brave men & women that have given up their Thanksgiving with their families to go to very dangerous places to keep me & my family safe this day............... Dave, be careful & we will see you in the new year!!

Also, I am THRILLED your PF behaved and you definitely deserved a beautiful medal. We don't care if it wasn't a PR, every race is an achievement, especially when you were cramping so much,
Marcia ha ha done and back home for 10am? What on earth time did you head out? Another congratulations for your run too.
Tracy so sorry things are getting on top of you- some times you just need time to let out all of your feelings and not try to hold them back. Really hope things pick up for you soon- more cuddles for you.

Oh and my boyfriend's been allowed to change one of his days before feb half term so we're going to Disneyland Paris for a long weekend.... over valentine's day too!!!! He's never been to disney! I can't wait, even if it will be wet and cold... it's disney

Kate, congrats on your upcoming Disney Paris adventure. Wow! What a fast pace you've got there. Wonderful.
Marcia, congrats on the shopping and putting in those steps! Good job!
Happy Thanksgiving weekend everyone. I got my 8 miler done. It was 40 degrees and sunny. Beautiful day and I don't understand, my pace was 13:30! That's good for me! I don't know what's up, but no aches/pains and I went with what I was given. Fun!
Getting ready to take Kirby Dog for his 2 miler turn.

K... Back from the Spacecoast Half Marathon....
And I know you are all wondering about the secret PR, right?
My previous PR was 2:55
My Secret was 2:50
I finished in 2hr46min!!! Whoo hoo! And as someone said I tried to push out all my emotions on the course and it helped! When I saw I was close to 2:45 I really pushed at the end with a bit of anger, and felt great with my time! Of course my legs and knees are feeling it a bit right now. There were a good amount of small rolling hills.

Tracy: Congrats on the new PR! :woohoo: You really earned it! :thumbsup2
Lily: Glad to hear that you had a wonderful run; I could use one of those any time, now!
Kate: Have you been to DLRP before? I love it in the winter; it has such a different feel from any other Disney park! I'm sure you and the BF will have a great time!
I've taken this week off from running, as I've been having problems with my right knee. I was looking forward to the Turkey Trot 10K, but had to sit it out, as I woke up that morning and couldn't even put weight on it. It seems to be nearly better today, which is a good sign. My husband took Jack for a run this afternoon and I took Sasha for a 3.5 mile walk. Today was the Seattle Marathon, so Sasha and I headed over to the finish line at the Seattle Center, about a mile from our house, so that we could scream team the walkers. It was so great seeing so many people finishing their goal; so inspirational!
Is it January, yet?

Tracy - Way to go on that awesome PR!!!! I am thrilled ofr oyu!!! :yay:
Kate - yay! DLP sounds aweasome!
Jeff - Is taht #7 for the year?
Sarah - Hoep teh rest does the trick! lol, I so want to skip the holidays and get to January. BAd of me, I know.
OK, did my 8 at non-hilly Kensington Thursday. ;) Here's the elevations of the route. The loop is really 8.5, but we parked near the top of the worst hill, so we coudl walk it when 8 were done. Of course, teh progream to get thsi is on my new DROID and I forgot to turn it off, so ignore wat's after the 8.5 and my speed/ :p

Wish we had realized that 8 at my parents Thursday meant 24 miles on that course from you-know-where in 4 days. Not our brightest move. After shoping all day Friday on those tired legs, Saturday's 45 min still seemed hard. Much better today and my legs will eb happy to be on our home course again.

Jeff Marathon number 7? Blimey! I was told to aim everything towards one big event per year- take it you don't agree with that advice! You really are like a machine!
Lily ache free run sounds absolute perfection! That is quite some pace too, bet you positively glowed after seeing that time.
Tracy whoop whoop. great job using those emotions in such a positive way- i think anger can be a runner's friend sometimes. Not that it's an enjoyable feeling tho! You did so well, especially with everything else going on.
Sarah yeah I've been to DLRP before- I went with mum in december for two years on the run after nana died to try to give her a bit of a boost. Loved it. But soooo soooo cold. It somehow feels more fantasy like because of the foreign language! Will try to learn some basics again :) Really hope the rest does the job and kudos for you getting to the finishing line and encouraging others. Did Sasha enjoy her experience?
Carrie oh my goodess that was a tough route. You deserve full warrior status!
Just a gym cycle for me today 9.3miles in 30mins, followed by more ultrasound to my knee. Still not too sore, so I'm

I never said 7 marathons in a year. That's just NUTS!!!
#7 for my career, and #8 in January. Someday I'll start working on my Marathon Maniac status.
In 2008, 2009, and upcoming 2010 I'll have done two marathons each year. One in January, one in December. (Well, technically one month apart). But Honolulu is just a training run for Dopey. LOL.
