View Full Version : You know you're a DVC junkie when...

I know I'm not the only DVC and Disney-aholic out there, and thought it would be interesting to hear just how much all of you are "into" your purchase and its location!

I'll start:

--Our lower level family room has been dubbed the "DVC" room. Pictures from our assorted DVC trips (mind you we've only been members for a little over a year), a Mickey Mouse telephone that says stuff when it rings. Makes me smile every time!

--Our regular family room has twin built-in bookshelves. I don't have any books on them. Just albums (from you guessed it--Disney), Disney pictures with the kids, Disney snowglobes, etc...
A recent visitor to our home looked at the shelves and said, "I'm in Disney Hell."

--I check my points and various stay options almost weekly (even though nothing has changed).

--The arrival of vacation magic in my mailbox is better than a letter from an old friend!

--My DD's (3 1/2) new "big girl" room is a Minnie Room--decorated with assorted minnie stuff I had to have on our last visit there.

--I have an entire drawer in my closet that is for nothing but DVC information (books, calculator, park information, etc...)

--A friend asks you for information about Disney as they are going for the first time and "heard we like it". I can spout phone numbers off the top of my head!

Anyone else care to share?????

My name is Laura and I'm addicted to Disney and DVC!

Wow Laura your house sounds like my kinda place!!
My friends get Disney touring advice from me too.
I'm a new DVC member awaiting my first trip "home"
and
I also must confess and make the statement that.....

My name is Laura and I'm a Disney junkie.

That is cute. Especially the friend saying "I'm in Disney Hell!!!":)

Don't forget to add the Mickey Mouse bathroom with Mickey border, shower curtain, switch plate covers, accessories and pictures all Mickey, of course painted bright yellow, also!

What about the DVC Member license plate, Mickey antennae ball, and a license plate frame that says "Walt Disney World, Been There, Done That, Going Back!!!" on one of your vehicles? The other vehicle has a WDW 25th anniversay license plate on the front, the same been there license frame, and IF there was an antennae, there certainly would be a Mickey antennae ball on it, also!

Don't forget all the clothing that has a Disney character on it and the jewelry to match!

I have Disney all over my house too. My sister just rolls her eyes when she visits.

My latest quest is to convert the basement family room into my own "Wilderness Lodge Villa." I just got the perfect couch, made the paint color selections, and I know that I'll be doing some pine cone stenciling.

Bubbleboy's Top Ten Signs that you are a DVC junkie:

10. You refer to your spare bedroom as a lock off with a queen bed and pull out sofa bed

9. You are on this board everyday and can explain the pros and cons of OKW vs. BWV.

8. As guests staying the night in your house drive into your yard you say "Welcome Home"

7. You know where the closest Publix, Winn Dixie Or Goodings is from your house.

6. You have your next 10 years worth of DVC points already accounted for.

5. You can recite every utensil in the kitchen without referring to the guidebook.

4. You discussed will all your neighbors the merits of sharing their pools and allowing pool hoping. (Please call ahead during busy times of the year to make sure there is room)

3. You plan every major event during the year either 11 or 7 months in advance, including birthdays, Christmas, and anniversaries.

2. You classify each bedroom in your home as having either a standard or preferred view

1. You have purchased 6 add-ons and you still claim, "I never have enough points"

This is wonderful and made me laugh more than once!!

I've "only" got a Mickey and friends bathroom, but there is Disney stuff all over in assorted places.

Right now as I sit at work (yes, I know I should be working!) I have on a Mickey Mouse pen and earrings and if I didn't have on sandals I would have socks to match!!

:p :p :p :p :p :p :p

Oops, how could I forget all the Mickey and friends stuff in my office at work!! Kids, and some adults, love it.

Yes, I am a closet Disney junkie! We just got back from the 7day western cruise and joined DVC on the ship. We have stayed in the Caribbean Beach 6X and finally decided it was time to commit to buying at BCV (we love the location!). On our bed I put stuffed baby Minnie on my pillow, stuffed baby Mickey on DH's pillow and a giant Mickey in the center between them. I have a small table in our bedroom with stuffed Mickys and pics from our trips, plus a 16X20 pic on our wall of a past visit to Disney World. I try to keep it confined to our bedroom so guests don't think I've flipped! (PS I do have china figurines of Mickey and Minnie in my curio but guests wouldn't be able to figure out my addiction to the mouse just by the few I have in there).
But, I should come out of the closet and admit that I love the Mouse.........

Hi everyone, my name is Ray and I am a Disneyholic. :p

In our foyer we have a curio cabinet filled (displayed) with Disney snowglobes and Lennox figurines. In the family room we have Disney pictures (with Disney frames) on the bookshelves (no room for books), on the fireplace mantel and we have started a wall of Disney pictures. Just this pass Sunday after our DD's softball game the team came over for a swim party and one of the girls asked me if we had any normal pictures and I just smiled and laughed.

At work I have the Disney pictures that remind me of each trip and the many conversations with fellow Disneyholics to keep me going.:D

You guys crack me up!!!!

Well lets see....
My the tops of my Kitchen cabinets have my Disney relief plate collection on top. I have navy and yellow MM canisters. I have a curio in my living room with the rest of my plates on display. Our computer room has my Disney sericel collection, so that I can gaze at them while I read the DIS boards twice daily! My DD6 has a princess themed bedroom. DD(almost 3) is getting ready to move into her big girl bedroom done in Mickey and Minnie. My bedroom is home to my nightstand, which contains every piece of DVC mail (we have only been members since last July), my member guide book, and every Disney guide book I own, so that before I lay down to sleep, I can open my guide book and dream of how many ways I can stretch my meezly 170 points. I go to bed dreaming of add-ons in the future. During the month of December my house is further transformed, I add my Disney tree to our dining area, as well as my Disney Radko ornament collection that I place in various window openings, and I'm so looking forward to placing my new Dept. 56 Disney Village collection that I got this past Christmas on my mantle this year. When I look at what I've written, it does sound as if maybe I am suffering from a junkie disease. That's why I read this board so much, so that I can tell my DH that I'm not half as bad as some of those folks on the DIS board!!!

Since I couldn't find any Disney curtains for my kitchen, I purchased place mats and made a MM valance!! Above that I've stenciled Mickey Mouse all across the wall. I have MM flatware, too.
In my den are the cels we've been collecting, along with Disney frames and photos from all our trips.
In my living room curio cabinet are the Disney snowglobes and my collection of pins.
On the top of the bookcase are the stuffed animals - some of them are VERY large!!
My Minnie Mouse phone is here at the computer, and I can hit "demo" to hear her speak!!
This fall I will be doing over one of the bathrooms........guess what the theme is???

WOW you people are really bad off;) (the pot calling the kettle black:D)

In addition to all the stuff mentioned, you know it is really bad when you have to buy another fire safe just for your DVC add on deeds and paperwork.:)

Now if I could just have you all send me lots of money to get you help with your problem, I could live at Disney. Research that is, to find the root or cause of your problem. Really I would do this just to help you all out , really;) I would.

This thread isn't too scarey. It actually makes me feel better. Recently someone on the boards commented about the crazy people at the BCV trying to sleeping on the pool chairs so that they'd be the first ones to check in to the new resort. What I found scarey is that that DIDN'T sound crazy to me-it sounded perfectly normal! So I've been afraid that I was even more Disney addicted than people on these boards. Whew-maybe I'm not!

I have my old DVC book at work - it stays here - the new one is at home - I kept the old DVC book update from the DVC member site - I send alot of time here - even when I don't post - all my shirts are Disney and generally DVC of course I have a few with Mickey instead. I also answer questions about Disney- mostly from strangers that I don't even know - oh well I just love WDW - it is a great place! of course then there are people who even after they have been there don't understand the dis and say theme park big deal - I just ignore them!!!

my pin collection is the Dvc resorts - still looking for the VWL or the BCV - I have found one for everything else.

I also share my DVC with my friends, co-workers and sometimes stranger that need a boast!!! It is a great place!

I agree, I'm a DVC junkie!!! I also check my points our regularly and also "play" with different vacation scenarios. But I must confess to decorating my family room to be like our second home VWL. The furniture is the same colors... Even down to the red plaid curtains!!! My sofa table is FILLED with pictures from WDW and the latest addition... The WL picture frame!!!!

We only advertise for Disney at home with OKW prints and all DVC license plates in the family room. About half of our photographs are from Main Street or in a WDW picture frame.
At work, I only wear a Mickey Mouse watch, and only have a Monorail die cast and OKW and WDW National Car Golf Tournament posters in my office. Oh yah, there are pictures of my girls being hugged by good ol’ Goofy. But that’s it....of course there is the “wallpaper” on my PC….

I second the comment by Simbasmom - when you start reading through the posts and none of the ideas sound crazy - and in fact - you're taking notes because there are some ideas you just might want to try - that's when you know you're addicted to DVC. Makes me feel much better knowing I'm not the only one.

People look at my Disney license plate, Mickey wallet, Mickey cell phone holder, Mickey watch and Disney clothing and ask me if I'm into Disney. If I could go into court wearing my Disney clothing I'd do it. But I don't think the judges would like it very much.

I am continually thinking about how I can get to WDW and where I will stay. I have my next two trips planned already. OKW here I come!!

We are constantly planning our next trips and trying to figure out ways to stretch our points. We have the Goofy remote that talks to you when you remove it from the base, Mickey watches, several family photo albums filled to capacity with photos. I am also planning on turning our sunroom in our new home into my Disney beach room. Would love to cover the walls with all of our photos from trips to WDW (like Olivia's). I also had Mickey airbrushed on my nails today!

We are leaving Friday for the BCV for 8 nights! We can hardly wait! Then our next trip is to BWV for 5 nights (kidless!). Disney - here we come! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Okay... here's a new one.... I burned a CD of my favorite Disney Songs from my collection and I play it in my car everyday during my 1 hour commute to work. Let me tell you.... There is no such thing as road rage when you have Disney playing in the background.:jester:

Our family room has unoffically been dubbed the "Disney Room" We now have about 60 pins hanging on the bullentin board and a huge 36x48, framed "Pirates of the Caribbean" poster hanging on the wall. Various Disney photos and frames throughout the house. "This is us with Minnie" "This is us with Goofy" "This is our favorite picture of us with Mickey"

I have my "Mickey" outfit - consisting of one of many WDW Shirts with Mickey, Tigger or Pooh socks. My DH now owns 3 Mickey ties, And, yes we own the his & hers fuzzy mouse ears. :earsgirl: :earsboy:

I have a folder in my "FAVORITES" called "DISNEY" just for all 3000 sites out there that I visit weekly.

The WDW commerical bring tears to my eyes because I'm "homesick":)

Now we are waiting to hear back on our OKW re-sale, since Disney has ROFR. I've got my fingers crossed that we'll soon have a "home"

Nice to know I'm not alone in my "disease". :)

OK, lets see, I have a huge Mickey that has his own recliner surrounded by various other size Mickeys. Just about every Sun. I wear a Mickey tie to church, different styles of course. I built display cases beside our 52" tv to house the Dis snowglobes, pictures from our WDW trips, diecast vehicles from the rides, Dis collecter plates and just about anything else Dis that will fit in there.
We have Mickey on 2 antenneas of cars, been there, done that, going back license plate holder and sun visor, CD changers in both w/mostly Dis CDs of some kind or the other. Lots of Dis VHS and DVDs. By the way, our last trip, someone stole our antennae off our at the airport, what made me mad is they took Goofy w/ it.

Weekly trips to The Dis store to satisfy the crave. New members of DVC waiting for our first trip home in Dec. This is probably the clincher, I have done a huge Creative Memories scrapbook of our 1st trip to WDW from Dec. 1999 and working on 2nd book from Dec. 2000 trip right now with hopes of finally getting around to our 3rd trip before we get back in Dec. for our 4th. The bad part is I am a guy! Isnt scrapbooking a girl thing.

People visiting our house know that we are addicted to Disney, but as a teacher I had to spend way to many hours away from home 9 months out of the year, so I transformed my jr. high classroom. Do you know how hard it is to find classroom decorations of Disney? When I decided on this transformation 5 years ago, Disney was missing out on these $$$, so I had to create my own. Thank God for Disney coloring books and opaque projectors, Happy meal toys, and students. Now whenever kids bring me anything, it is Mickey, they all know that Mickey is my favorite. I even turned the sidelight window into my room into a Timon stained glass window. My partner refers to my room as Disneyland. One year I was going to change the decor, and the kids revolted, Mickey is back.

1. Let's start with the Mickey mailbox that I recently painted...it's pretty cool....white with black Mickey heads on it!

2. On the refrigerator we have the magnetic "Been there, Done that, Going back" bumper sticker with the days to go countdown underneath it...today it says 72 days!

3. We have Mickey dishes and silverware, and various other Disney paraphernalia decorating the kitchen.

4. Living room is full of Disney picture frames and photo albums, the Mickey phone, and the Mickey throw blanket on the couch.

5. Kids bathroom is painted like the mailbox....white walls with black Mickey heads all over, Mickey shower curtain, towels, soap dispenser, and even shampoo and soap from the resorts.

6. Infant daughters room is done in Classic Pooh.

7. If we are not playing the Disney CDs in the car, the kids have a fit!

8. DH and I are secretly hoping that DDs first word will be "Mickey" and that her first complete sentence will be "Daddy, when are we going to Disney World again?"

9. Too many items of clothing, shoes, slippers, pajamas, swimsuits, beach towels, movies, DVDs, computer games, and toys, from the Disney Store/Catalog/Online, to even mention!!!

10. Oh yeah, we just got a Disney vanity plate for my van....and around it is the "Been there, Done that, Going back" frame.

11. Neighbor across the street won't even step foot in our house or "drink the koolaid" for fear of "catching" the Disney bug!!!

Funny post!!

Picking up where Johnnie & Lesley's posts about giving birth left off...

Hmmm... has anyone had a "homebirth" at DVC? Maybe in that big, comfy jacuzzi? ;) Wonder if the baby will get a samll add-on as a gift. How about if the baby was conceived AND born at DVC? :jester: Something to think about... need to do some family planning before our next trip!! LOL!!

BTW, has anyone given birth in the parks? Is it my imagination or did I hear something about this many years ago? Can you imagine Goofy as your birthing coach? :) Would the kid get lifetime admission to the parks? :p

Births not allowed? Hmmm... how about Christenings/Infant Dedications? There's that big fountain in Future World, or how about the Little Mermaid water fountain in MK, or all those squirting/dancing water fountains all around the World?

What's the record for the youngest visitor to the Parks? If a "homebirth" can be arranged at BCV, we could hop over to Epcot later on that day...

(Shaking myself awake) Ooops! There I go again... falling into a Disney trance! (Looking around fugitively) Better get back to work before I get those weird looks again! :jester:

1)When your mantle is covered with family pictures and "The "Mouse" is in everyone of them.

2)When you can't find anything but Baby Mickey to decorate the nursery, so you make your own baby comforter with Big Mickey.

3)Your DDs rooms have been Mickey, Classic Pooh, and Princess, and their bathroom is Mickey.

4)You haven't finished the scrapbook of your 2001 trip and you've still got Feb2002 to do, and you're leaving again in less than 30 days! (Don't feel bad JimmyTammy - and no, it's not only a "girl" thing!)

5)Running out of wall space to hang prints of our other "homes".

6)You're collecting things for a garage sale and you can't bring yourself to part with anything Disney.

7)You know the release dates for all the upcoming Disney movies and DVD's.

8)You check the resales boards everyday 'cause there might be one you just have to have!

I could go on and on, but then I know you all understand the addiction:cool:

... when you've added on FOUR times, and your original purchase was just this past April! (this is it, I swear!)

... when your spouse asks what kind of railing design you would like for your front porch renovation, and you say to wait until after we come back from our DVC stay so that we could checkout the styles there! (same response for the choice of color schemes throughout the house!)

... when you subscribe to all the airfare "specials" notifications, so that you could the "inexpensive airfare" excuse, for another trip HOME!

... when you have spreadsheets and calendars to keep track of your points and to remind you when to call MS to schedule your next trip!

... when you check this board daily (or is that hourly?) to get the lastest updates on DVC!

As a side note, I did have all the resellers websites bookmarked, however, after this last add-on I removed them. I DO still check them from time to time, though. There's no harm in looking, right?...

I have every esaver email there is notify me of good fares into Orlando.

I sleep on flannel Mickey sheets. My bright yellow bathroom wakes me up in the morning, and my oval Mickey mirror (with Mickey behind it, holding the mirror) greets my bed head. I drink "Mickey" coffee that I scoop from a Mickey cannister every morning. I drink it while eating my Mickey waffles.

I have an oval DVC sticker on my car. STILL can't decide on a Disney license plate but am definitely getting one soon! Of course, I have the Mickey antennae topper, the Imagineers version! I created my own version of the obligatory flag in the back window by cutting a Mickey head out of a US flag.

Have framed photos of various sites around the World in almost every room of the house. Most of the stand alone frames in my house have a Mickey head on the frame. My favorite chair has a comfy fleece Mickey head throw on it, and a Mickey head pillow.

I bought a cordless speaker just so I could listen to Disney radio downstairs (our computer is upstairs). I also downloaded a ton of music from the parks which I listen to in my car!! LOVE that. If you could get Disney radio in the car I'd be in heaven.

I don't think I have all that much Disney stuff in the house, mostly because the only room literally "themed" Disney is my bathroom. But I have to admit that everytime someone new comes to my house they look around and then say, "Uh, are you a Disney fan?"

Grace, I believe some have come close to birthing in the parks....but I think they make it priority #1 to get them out before the birth happens. HA...I'd just like to see them try to move me if I were about to give birth! Of course, it honestly sounds like a horrible place to have a baby, imo....yuck. Germier than a hospital.

And to be honest...the jacuzzi tubs really are too shallow for a good waterbirth....though they'd be a godsend during labor!

If a baby were born at DVC I don't know if we'd even know it. Personally, I'd probably keep it to myself...or at least not actually inform anyone that "hey, I just had a baby here!" (But don't worry...I don't plan to be having a baby at DVC....done with the babies thing)

We redecoreated the bathroom with the Mickey shower curtain, the towels and ceramic accessories last year.

Our basement currently has no free wall space because it is filled with 22 Production cels and/or drawings! Snow globes now decorate the bar and I have a clock with Goofy, Donald and Mickey that "talks" every hour with their voices - "Goofy is particularly funny!" Oh, and I forgot to mention the 8 Disney halloween costumes that hang on a rack, along with a 4 foot Mickey sitting on a directors chair. Mickey desk accessories, Buzz lightyear mousepad. (All this in a basement - which now looks like a Disney decorators dream!)

My son's bedroom, has gone from the nursery decorated with all different Disney charachters, to now, since he's a "big boy" just Lion King decor.

Guess we're hooked!

Oh, and did I mention the official blue Disney Store Varsity sweaters that my husband, my mother and myself all wore last year to Magic Kingdom? All that was missing was the Mickey Ears!

My License plate is DVC BWV.

All of my computers have a picture of one of my kids and they are from the "World"

I don't think I have an article of clothing that doesn't have a Disney logo on it.

I was just reading this thread yesterday and when I was in the car with my dd, she is 5, I realize that we are junkies. She requests the Epcot music (Illuminations & ToD parade) and she knows all of the words during the parade song! I said to myself, yes, we are junkies!!!! My kids bathroom is Pooh, including the Eeyore cabinet knobs. My ds's room has the Mickey & Pluto stencil. I also scrapbook every trip, I'm about to pick up my 18 rolls of film from our trip in June and scrapbook them. The DVC membership book never seems to get put away, it is always out on the table. I have points charts laying around at home and always at work. And lastly, I am only whole if I have a Disney trip booked at all times. I always need something to look forward to. ;)

I am using my computer with a disney screen saver, facing a big picture of Mickey on the wall, drinking my coffee from a Minnie coffee cup, grabbing tissues from my red yellow and black tissue container, checking the DVC boards as I do at least 3 times a day so I don't miss anything, and thinking to myself that these guys are way too into

mle, lol....your post could've been written by me. I love this thread.

My kids are now grown, so my DS' bedroom has become our 'Mickey Guest Room', another room in the basement is the 'Woods Room' themed after Wilderness Lodge.
There are various 'hidden Mickey's' throughout the house; a mickey trivet hung up with a row of various other trivets in the kitchen. Mickey napking holders, that you have to look at twice to realize what they are. Various Mickey picture frames, okay so mayber they aren't so hidden. lol

Yikes

The only thing I can say is "ditto" , some of the things you guys mention are eerie, it's like it's my house.

That Illuminations/TON CD is my ds's favorite...

I'm also working on my scrapbook from Jan.......I think I'm going to need two albums. I'm up to day 4 or 5 of 14 and have something like 40 pages already! And I have 6 rolls of film to get developed from our non-DVC trip this month. Plus...a whole album to do from our 1999 trip. I do have one Disney album done....from our trip in 2000 when we joined DVC. Oh, and Creative Memories even has male consultants....its definitely not just a female thing!

Oh, and you know you're a DVC junkie when you just have to fit in another trip, yet you're out of points!

When you start thinking of all the folks you want to invite to join you...on a regular basis...

When a hotel room just seems so...well...inconvenient! No kitchen?

When you arrive home from a DVC trip and go "where is my dishwasher, whirlpool tub, and balcony with a view of the pool? And where's the pool? and why don't all my dishes match?"

When you can't have a counter service meal at the parks without thinking you'd like to take it back to your villa to eat it from a real plate with a real fork!
