Looks like we have to cancel this cruise if DD's school calendar stays the same as the way I learned it yesterday. She has always had off the week after Easter, well I guess since Easter is so late in April they decided to change their week off to the week before Easter. Yesterday I made a ressie on the 4/17 sailing, but I'm not cancelling this one until I get the final school calendar in August.
Actually I won't be cancelling that ressie since it was made onboard and I got the discount and OBC so I'll move it to 2012 for either the Dream or the Fantasy, whichever ship is doing the 7 day sailings.

I'm thinking that same thing will happen to alot of folks next year because Easter is so late. My kids are in Catholic school and we always have off beginning with Good Friday and going thru the week after Easter. But Easter has never been this late before so who knows. And this year we started school before Labor Day which we have never done before but since Labor Day was so late they did make that change. School calendar for nextyear won't be out til mid summer . One thing I did notice was that the week before Easter had better rates!!!

Our school calendar isn't released until August, but I emailed DD's guidance counselor yesterday to ask and she said they just received the calendar last week or so and the kids are off the week of 4/17.
The rates are so much better for that sailing, I booked a cat. 4D and it's cheaper than the cat. 8D we have booked for this cruise. I'm sure it would have been even cheaper if I had booked it on day 1 like I had this one, but I'm still happy with the rate. A lot of categories are sold out for that sailing already, and I had a hard time finding a non-connecting cabin in a category that I wanted. I really wanted another cat. 8D but they are sold out along with the 8B and 8C, and cat. 8A is in GTY status.

You can also do the same thing and reschedule for the 4/17 sailing. Infact I'm a little nervous about this now and I think i am going to email DSD's principal and see if they have thought of any plans. I will need to change 2 reservations so I would rather take care of this now.

Both my ressies are booked with the onboard 10% and OBC so I'll just move the one we don't use out to 2012.
Cabins are pretty limited for the 4/17 sailing, but it is a lot cheaper. I was able to book a cat. 4D and it's cheaper than the cat. 8D for this sailing.
Good luck with getting the school info.

Yay, other people with kids will be on this cruise!! Our school vacation got switched from the week after Easter to the week before Easter but we had already booked this cruise after "earning" it by buying more DVC points so we just decided to spend our real spring break in the World and pull the kids out of school for 4 extra days! It's the school board's fault for changing the week :goodvibes

In the simplest terms, a Fish Extender is a hanging pocket, or usually pockets, that hangs from the fish mounted to the wall outside your stateroom door where CM's leave messages or cofirmations and the like for you.
As an "action", it's sort of like a Secret Santa, without having to be a secret. It's a way for a group of cruisers, who have learned they are on the same cruise together via these boards, to have a little extra fun. Everyone that decides to participate gets a list of all those involved before cruising so you can leave little "gifts" or "goodies" for the Adults, the Kids, each individual, or for the room as a whole. The choice is yours. It's not designed to be a big financial drain, just some extra fun. There are TONS of cheap Fish Extender gift ideas on these boards. Dollar Stores, Target, Michael's, WalMart, ACMoore all carry great dollar, or close, items.
As far as obtaining a Fish Extender, if you can sew you're half way home. I can't. :confused3 But I did get a great deal on one on Ebay, where you can always find them if you don't want to make it yourself.
So for everyone that wants to be involved, we need:
-Your Disboard Name (ID)
-YOUR STATEROOM NUMBER
-Names of Adults
-Names, Ages, & Sexes of Kids
-Dining Seating Time
-Theater Show Time
-Health Concerns or Allergies
-Special Celebrations On-Board

We received a simple mailer from DCL, before even paying in full, noting our Dining and Show Times. It explained the two possible dining times and the three show time offerings of 5pm, 7pm, & 9pm. BUT as of this week, it sounds like the 3 original showtimes experiment may be getting scrapped. Reports from the ship right now, AND on the DCL website, have showtimes changed to 6:15pm or 6:30pm (depending on the show) & 8:30pm with an experimental 3:30pm matinee. What i'm hearing is that the 5, 7, & 9pm show times were causing havoc for the dining room staff, both for the current meal, and getting ready for the next seating. So for those who have been trying to plan around what they "thought" was their showtime; time to start over. The only real thing you can do prior is keep an eye out for current Navigators posted and see if this new experiment holds up and how to plan your family's activities around them. :confused3

The latest is that your dining times will not change from what you have already been assigned (unless you request it). You will "officially" have the same show time too, but if the new show times work out better than the 5pm, 7pm, & 9pm you will be told of the new "process" on your arrival day. Whether you are "assigned" a new show time based around your dinner seating, or, as is being tried out on-board at present, you will be free to attend any of the shows scheduled that day. . . . time will tell. popcorn::

My fish extender is being made for me as we speak (well, maybe not this exact moment!) but a friend of mine is sewing one for me and it was a lot of fun picking everything out! I'm excited to see the end product!

Hi Everyone! I've been busy and I forgot to check in here until today. So much going on! Anyway, I have FE gift idea, I just need to follow through with the idea and make them. Can't wait for the cruise. I am normally a researcher and know everything before we vacation. I've done nothing. I feel out of place. I need to research! Does anyone know if the passporters came out for the Dream? Maybe if I read the book, I would feel more prepared.
BASTHEFIRST
03-24-2011, 10:27 PM
Only one more month! :cool2: Dave Marx told me that the new Passporter won't be going to press until April now. When the manuscript is done, it will be available for download on-line, but it definately sounds iffy as to whether it'll be ready before Easter. Should be, but still nothing definate. I have last years, but i'd definately like to power through the new one if it comes out before our trip.
Just started thinking about packing and man is it gonna be tight! That's the problem with being a clothes horse AND flying Spirit Airlines, the king of fees. Oh, well at least they changed one thing recently. They lowered the weight limit on bags from 50lbs. to 40lbs! What the heck, I needed another challenge. :lmao:
I'm jealous you have somebody making your FE by request. I had to buy mine off Ebay. I can't sew a lick. I did iron on our names though! Does that count?
Almost forgot. We got our Cruise Documents this week! :woohoo: I hope everybody else did too.

Hi, we will be going on the Easter cruise and my kids and I are so excited!
I am a single mom going with my 5 year old daughter princess: and almost 3 year old son pirate:. My parents are also going but are staying in their own room on a whole other floor.
I am sad I didn't find this site until now; your fish extenders sound like so much fun! I will have to be more on the ball next time. I guess there is a learning curve to all this.
I was wondering if anyone knew where to get the very large fun magnets that were hanging on the door. I would love to have one made super quick to hang on the door for the kids!
Thanks,

Hi Lauren!
It is too bad, you just missed our FE group. Regarding the question about printable magnets, you can buy those at any office supply store. Here they are at KMART, but they sell them at many stores.

I got my cruise docs!! Yay!! Makes it seem much closer now :goodvibes
Now I have to nag the kids to try on clothes, figure out what we're bringing, and figure out the FE gifts - any guidelines on those?
We're in Disney for a week before the cruise and doing a split-stay so packing should be interesting and then we head for the Dream. Which means I need to go light on souvenir shopping  And DD wants to leave a note for the Easter Bunny to leave her easter basket in our cabin - I must explain to her that we can't carry it home on the plane!
BASTHEFIRST
03-27-2011, 08:35 AM
We're in the middle of the same process ourselves. :laundy: I'm trying to keep things small so it'll all fit, and I don't have to worry about a week vacation BEFORE the cruise. YIKES. Good luck with that packing! :lmao:
We're leaving a note for the Easter Bunny as well, but little Brad's Easter basket is a stuffed cruise ship and characters so it's already taking up practically half a suitcase! I have seen smaller soft collapsable baskets at craft stores and dollar stores all over though. That's definitely the direction i'd look into if you have to be concerned about the packing and carrying space, plus it's easier to hide. ;)
I've been checking other threads for what other groups do as far as setting up group meets. It seems like most either try and meet up right before or right after the life boat drill OR after the last dinner seating and show when the kids are in bed. Everybody's on a different schedule with different things planned; unpacking, touring, excursions, shows, etc., so please let me know what ideas everybody has and we'll see what we can work out.

We will be staying at my parents house the night before the cruise. I was wishy washy on what to do about the Easter Bunny. We decided to pack Easter stuff, but in small proportions. I bought sand pails for the basket (so they could use them in Castaway Cay), and very little candy. I will do a few eggs, maybe hide them in the lanai. I figured the Easter Bunny could put a Disney gift card in the basket and he would be done. My youngest is the only one who believes so it is not a big deal.
Regarding the meets, what if we met up right before the sail away party or the Pirate Party. Maybe we could meet in a determined area. Perhaps, put a sign that said something like "DIS Boards meet" at a table so we would know if we had the right crowd. Just a suggestion.
Mduff
03-27-2011, 08:19 PM
I think before the sail away party would be good - start the cruise off right! Although the deck will be pretty crowded. Maybe we should check some of the recent meet threads and see where other cruisers met.
Anyone got any suggestions for FE goodies?
As for the Easter Bunny, I'm trying to make it useful stuff....hat for DS filled with candies and a few small trinkets, purse for DD filled with candies, jewelry and trinkets. I'll have to sneak out the week before while in DW and see what I can find that's Disney related ;) The problem is that their "home" baskets are always so big and I don't want them to be disappointed. Which is quite silly since really, we're on a cruise! So what's disappointing about that???
DS still believes in the Easter Bunny at 12 - at least that's what we believe!

We have cruised the past several years on Easter and EB left candy and toys to use on the ship...especially special treats to eat during the movies and shows (to avoid the $$$ treats sold prior to showtime!) Also things to use in the pool, etc. Never really packed a basket...just opened up a drawer and used easter grass that got tossed.

Aside from the FE, it will be me and my daughter (11) sailing for our 5th time. We're going back-to-back so we could get a full 7 day cruise. It would be great to meet up with anyone who has girls in that age range so my daughter can make some friends. That way, she can have fun and I can get a little time to myself!

O.K. I did some looking and some asking and here's what i've come up with for our Easter Cruise Group Meet. It seems most are partial to meeting before the Sail Away Party, so everyone can get to meet early, adults and kids alike, and possibly plan other things over the course of the cruise.
So, how does 3:00pm at Currents Bar on Deck 13 forward sound? It's a family area with plenty of seating and is reported to not often be too crowded. It overlooks the Deck 12 sundeck that overlooks the adult pool on Deck 11, neither of which are reported to be too crowded too often either.
It was suggested that we plan an alternate spot in case of rain as well, so how about the Vista Cafe' that is located on Deck 4 midship off of the lobby? It has drinks and food available and has plenty of seating too.
My son and I have created a blue on white DIS MEET sign on posterboard to make it a little easier anyway. If anyone has any questions, comments, or snide remarks, please don't hesitate. . . . i'm winging it here. :lmao:
I will message everybody that signed up for the FE with the final list from post #48 of this thread. I will message everyone else with our Group Meet info also. If you didn't sign up for the Fish Extender we would still love to have EVERYONE at our Easter Bunnies Group Meet. It's almost here . . .

It can be absolutely anything. This is my first one so I searched all kinds of threads on here. Some people are truly talented with the stuff they've made, that I sure couldn't. :scared1: It's really just for fun so it totally does not matter what it is. Most people are restricted by what they can pack into suitcases and fly with. Others have the fortune of being able to drive to the port, so nothing's ever the same. I guess that's part of what makes it so interesting. There are some great inexpensive ideas for things to get and places to get them on these boards though. :surfweb:

Marla:
On my last cruise for FE gifts, I made FE gifts. For the kids, I bought those blow up floats and some candy in a goody bag. For the adults, I took a picture of the Wonder and edited it to say our sail dates, I then put that picture in a frame. I also put some candy in a goody bag. We got candy, magnets, small photo albums,... It really can be anything. Think small party favor gifts, nothing that will break the bank.
Brad: We will be at the meet.

Only 10 more days to go! So excited to meet you all. I finished making my FE gifts and I'm quite proud of myself since I am not known to be a very crafty person. Our vacation actually begins in 7 days because we're flying to Hilton Head first and then driving to the ship on Sunday. We can hardly think of anything else right now. We're in full-on vacation mode! Have a safe trip everyone and see you on Easter!!

I'm in stress mode! I have to pack for our week in Disney, and for the cruise! I'm in the "emailing teachers" mode since our kids are missing 3 days of school, and my mind is on overload about what I'm needing to pack. At least I have the weekend since we don't leave until Monday morning...early!
But my FE is made and I've had a lot of fun getting stuff to put in everyone else's! I'm so excited about my FE I have to share what my friend made me!

I love your FE Brad!
I'm trying to get most of our stuff done by this weekend, which really gives me only one more day - I need to pack up Easter stuff while the kids are in school so they don't see it
We're doing a split stay in Disney so I'm thinking it may be a great idea to do separate suitcases for each hotel, and then separate suitcases for the cruise - you know, those nicer clothes for dinner that we won't need in Disney. Sounds like a great idea but I think I'm making it so much harder for me to pack! I'm trying to minimize all my re-packing when moving around
Now if I just stay home rather than running around buying stuff for the trip - we leave in 4 days! :woohoo:
