I don't know her recipe but I do fried rice at times. The best fried rice is made with day old rice but you can make it early in the day and freeze it for the same effect.
1 part rice
1 part meat
1 part vegies
egg
oil
seasoning packet- I use sunmaid- ginger, teriaki, soy sauce are the main seasonings
It doesn't matter how much I just use the same amount of each- if you want it more vegie based than decrease the meat and add more vegies. But 2 parts filling to 1 part rice is the ratio I use.
For meat I use chopped whatever I have or canned shrimp (just depending on what in the household like). If I have time I marinate my chicken/pork/beef in teriaki sauce for a litle bit of time before cooking.
For vegies- I use whatever I have around the house- peppers, celery, carrots, mushrooms(don't save well- the rice will taste sour after 1 day), scallion/onion, brocoli- whatever I have on hand. Chop into pieces about 1/2 inch
To Cook:
Cook meat (except shrimp) in a large skillet and then set it aside.
Scramble 1-2 eggs in the skillet and then set aside chopping coarsely (I omit the egg since DH is allegric to basic eggs- he can eat them bakeed into things but not in their original form)
Heat oil in skillet (smae without washing)- you want enough to cover rice- I generally use 2 tbls per cup of rice (I don't measure just guesstimate).
Add in chopped scallions/onions cooking until slightly softened- about 1-2 minutes
Add in rice and stir to coat- cook about 2 minutes
Add in hard vegies- carrots/ celery- cook about 2 minutes
Add in soft vegies- cook about 2 minutes
Add in cooked egg and meat- cook about 1 minute
Add in seasoning packet and stir to coat- taste and add more ginger, soy and/or teriaki to taste- cook about 2 minutes
Serve
My version is a Filipino Fried Rice we learned to make from native Filipinos while living in Hawaii.

Christy, good luck, I'll be thinking of you!
If anyone is interested, this (http://bostonuplights.com/Blog/?p=167) is the wedding I went to on Halloween night. The bride did most, if not all, of the decorating herself. It was lovely.

Quick question for y'all--I posted this above in my post, but not til later. I called the place where we normally take DS for Santa pics, but this year, they're not doing Santa. :sad1: So, is there a place in WDW where DS can meet Santa? We'll be there the 16-20, and I can't remember from the last time we went in December (it was 5 years ago--I've slept since then! Plus, it was just DH & I, so I wasn't all that concerned with Santa pics!) Any suggestions?
morgansmom2000
11-02-2009, 09:42 AM
Brooke, I seem to remember Santa being at Downtown Disney when we were there for Thanksgiving last year. I'd call WDW and find out!
rlovew
11-02-2009, 09:44 AM
Santa meets in the Magic Kingdom - near guest services normally through Dec. You can get a picture with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the American Adventure in Epcot (as soon as holidays around the world start after Thanksgiving Day). He also does pictures in DTD as mentioned.

We don't go during Christmas to WDW.... but there is a cute place in Downtown Disney that has statues of a scene.. we did our family photo there in 2005 I believe..
I'll email you a photo...

Don't they have a Santa type person in every world in Epcot at Christmas?
Think of cool collage you could make for your little guy. :thumbsup2
Okay, word of warning. Never ever listen to your DH when you know better. I was pretty sure straight bleach was a bad thing. It is. My eyes are burning upstairs with all the windows open. Even with a P95 and goggles I was dying down in the basement. The drying process is worse than the spraying.
I'm going to the post office and then spending the rest of day some place else.

Me try to make some parts beside the TV area livable, there are boxes everywhere
"Pizza pizza" with Monday Night Football
Freak out about the odd noises while trying to sleep in the house for the first time.

What is this?
Poison, of course. Shhhhhuuuutttt up. You'll like it.
I planted my poppies today! I have to share my poppy story.
I've been planting poppies for about 20 years. They ALL died. Except one lovely plant called "Pink Ruffles." I bought it 6 years ago from a not-so-local nursery. They only did business with that grower for that one year and haven't ever carried this plant since. For five years, I've searched online and in nurseries across many states (I've traveled across several states before to buy a plant I really wanted...it is a sickness!) This is truly a traffic-stopping plant. It is a lovely, luminous pink. Usually, I divide my perennials to spread around the garden or to share with friends, but you can't easily divide poppies to make more plants because they just send down one very deep taproot for each plant.
This spring, when I had pretty much given up ever finding another "Pink Ruffles," I found them at a garden center about two miles from my house. So what did I do? Excitedly plonked down my $50 for five plants and then let them sit in their pots in my driveway for seven months! They are still healthy, but really needed to get into the ground! So, because I added this task to my "Daily Grind" list today, I got it done! So, thanks everyone for the kick in the patootie to get this done - I appreciate it!!!
For a look at what this poppy looks like, check out this link. Each flower is larger than my hand and is truly gorgeous...

Yikes! Did someone ask for my fried rice recipe before? I didn't see it...soooo sorry!
What I do is make the rice 1 cup rice to 2 cup water. I increase in that incriment. To the rice/water I add margerine about 3tbls per cup rice. I also add dried minced onions 1 tbls per cup rice, ground ginger 1/2 tsp/cup of rice, and salt to taste. This simmers in the pot till the water is absorbed.
I use 1 egg per cup of water. Scramble and fry in the big skillet in oil. Add the protein, shrimp, chicken, whatever, some veggies (clean out the leftovers in the fridge). I coat everything with oyster sauce (in the asian isle), then add the rice, 1/2 tsp per cup of rice of tumeric and then soy sauce to taste... stir till it's all combined and sticky...
Tonight is chicken and shrimp and 3 cups rice and 6 cups water...
Yumm num nummy!!

Cable guy was supposed to come between 1-3. Got a phone call...new window 3-3:30...got another phone call at 3:45, they'll be there in 15 minutes. Why must the cable company overschedule!
But we are all set up now, and I have the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom "livable." And I hung my new valance in my scrap room, it could be a little wider, the window was bigger than I thought, but still looks cute. I took a pic, I'll post it tomorrow. And there is scrap stuff in the room (mostly paper) but nothing is organized yet, because I have to order the furniture I want from Crate & Barrel, but I can't do that until we pay the CC bill with the appliances on it, so a couple more weeks.

Congrats Hope! you must be so excited! Is tonight your 1st night sleeping there?
Yep! And we have new mattresses, queen size (we've only had a full before). They are also thicker than our previous set, so we're like a foot higher off the ground...I'm only 5'1" "on a good day" so I told DH, "I think I need a stool to climb into bed!"

I leave for an interview and you guys rack up 3 more pages for me to read through.
Set up and extra chair (i wish) it'll take me a few hours to get there. I'll pack an extra table.
So the interview went well. It was only 30 mins not alot of questions mainly how I'd handle certian situations with the kids. They have more interviews this week (story of my life) I'm crossing my fingers, toes, knocking on wood and all that. I'm really hoping. there's a story that goes with this job that if I get it I'll share. So keep the fingers crossed for me I should hear by the end of the week as the position is open on next monday.
Hope enjoy the new house and try not to worry about the noises.

I think it went very well although hard to know. 1 of the guys went to school with DH and are still friends so that made it a relaxing less stressful interview. One of the other ones is the DH of L's CCd teacher and I'd at least met him through church and the other 1 I'd met before.
Brooke, Holly and Ann thank you and keep that energy flowing north and east, I REALLY want this job. the suspense till that phone call is going to kill me.
Holly any cake tempts me!!!!! I would love to be there but alas L has his first swim meet this weekend. one of these times I will make it down there I promise. :flower3: (course having a job and money coming in will help I won't feel guilty about using gas and my sequoia loves the gas pump). Boston isn't a bad trip it's just over 2 hours for me.
Okay off to bed hopefully I can sleep!

I realized that it was kind of silly to send her to Framingham just to turn around and go back to Boston once I posted that.
Ann, come on over! We'll figure a way out. Your family would survive a weekend without you! ;)
Christy, fingers, toes and eyes crossed you get this job! The sooner you have one, the sooner we get to meet you!

will let you know as soon as i know and if i get i after I finish dancing.
Christy, good luck with the position. Here's hoping you get the job!
Ann, how is the basement? Have the fumes cleared out? Straight bleach is harsh.
Yesterday we started Special Olympic swim so I missed posting last night. Boy, you guys were chatting. Off to catch up on today. :)

The fumes have cleared. Unfortunately I still over 3/4 of the basement still to do. I will be cleaning out the respirator and using that next time. I'll have DH take the boys to the ILs for the weekend and then I'll go stay at a spa when I am done. :thumbsup2
Now that sounds like a great way to reward yourself after the job. :thumbsup2
