Hi!! We are booked on the Turkey Day Wonder as well!! It will be my DH (Chuck), our DS (Mason) who will be 11 and me (Lisa)!! We have been on the Magic for Turkey Day the past few years. However, Mason will be starting middle school in the fall and it will be more difficult for him to miss a week of school.

Hi All! We just booked the 4-night cruise today! We had been booked on the 7-night on the Magic, but I was worried that 7 nights would be a bit too long for us. We went on the 4-night last year over Thanksgiving and thought it was perfect! So much fun!

We are DVC Owners at Animal Kingdom Villas and plan to spend two nights there before our cruise!

Thanks for getting the thread going--anyone planning on Fish Extenders? If so, count us in! We had a ball last year and now that I have some good ideas from last year's exchange, I can't wait to do it again!

OOOH...Fish extenders are super fun! Outside each stateroom is a "fish" that was placed there as a decoration. It is the perfect place to hang a "fish extender", which is just a contraption designed to hold some goodies! You can find one if you search this site. You can make one or you can also buy one on eBay or etsy from crafty people who make them (which is what I did!)

Everyone from the board who wants to participate lists their stateroom and who is staying there (with ages). Then, everyone delivers a goodie to everyone else's fish extender during the cruise. Nothing expensive, just fun and creative. Everytime you come back to your room, there is a surprise waiting! Some people gave candy, fun toys, etc. It was a lot of fun!!

Hello everybody! We just booked this cruise, too! It will be our 1st cruise & the 1st time my kids will have seen an ocean which is extra sad considering they are 17, 14, 11 & 7! We are sooo excited! Well, I THINK my 17 year old is but you can never tell w/that age! We are new DVC owners & will be staying 3 night at SSS before & 2 nights at BLT after! We've never been to Disney during Christmas so I hope we can see the Osbourne Lights, Processional & MVMCP! This will be a big trip for us but our oldest son is a senior & realizing we haven't taken enough family trips before the birds begin leaving the nest! I have a lot to learn before this trip so any advice or tips are welcome! I'll have to research fish extenders!

Welcome! You will have such a great time--both the planning and the cruise! We're new DVC owners too (at AKV), so we'll be spending two days at WDW before the cruise. We're going to stay at BWV this time! Can't wait! Christmas is really the only time of year we go--we love the decorations and the festivity of both WDW and DCL. The ship looks amazing at the holidays and even Castaway Cay is festive!

Fish extenders are super fun and I'm sure your kiddos (even the big ones) will get in on the fun!

Let us know if you have questions! :cool1:

Thanks for the welcome! I am so excited! I have a million questions! I'll start slow...first one is will the decorations for Christmas be on the boat yet? Second is how warm will it be over Thanksgiving? I'm worried it will be cold!

I'm definately looking into the fish extenders! I've never been during the holidays! Actually, I've only been to WDW 3 times in my life but I LOVE it there and plan to go much more now that we have DVC!

Yes, the decorations will definitely be up for the holidays by then. Both WDW and the Wonder (as well as Castaway Cay) will be all ready! It's quite beautiful!
As for the temperature, I think it varies and there is probably a temp chart. We went over Thanksgiving last year and had no problem with the temp--it was a bit chilly at night, but during the day both at sea, at Castaway Cay and in Nassau, it was sunny and hot. We were able to swim on the ship and Castaway Cay with no problem--lots of sun! In fact, our day at Castaway Cay was so beautiful that even the crew was off the ship to take pictures and soak up the sun.

But I definitely recommend packing a sweatshirt or light jacket for the evenings. It's really fun to walk around the decks at night (especially for the Pirates in the Caribbean party), but it does get chilly.

ICEMANPAD

As to temps, it really depends on the person...there have been some "cool" evenings, but more often than not, I don't need a jacket and can almost always wear shorts, except of course to dinner where they are not permitted..

However, at CC, we Floridians tend to find the water to be cold, though the northerners love it...

As for decorations, yes they will be up, but I'd rather not spoil the surprise by saying specifics...

As to FE's we will hopefully have enuf people to participate...I am sure Wendy and us will participate..

We have a DS who will be 11 when we sail in November. When he joins us for dinner, he typically wears khakis or cargo shorts w/ a polo type shirt. However, last year he insisted on wearing a suit and button down shirt for formal night. I think he was trying to look good for the sake of Wendy's daughter!! :rolleyes1

Just checking in everyone! I'm paying off the cruise tomorrow so I'll be ready to make excursion reservations in a few days! It's starting to seem real!

We are thinking of doing the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Swim for my husband and then the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Observer for our 3 1/2 year old and me. Any input on that idea from someone who has done that excursion?

Also, I'd be happy to start compiling a fish extender list, if no one else wants to do that. Just PM me with your screen name, stateroom #, guests in your stateroom (with kids' ages)...I'll start a spreadsheet that we can print and take with us. Sort of like this...

Hey - just checking in from the other Thanksgiving 2010 cruise to see how things were going on the Wonder. It has been too quiet on the Magic. Very little chatting and an FE participant list that keeps getting shorter as people cancel/change plans in advance of the September payment deadline.

The good thing about a quiet cruise is that Palo reservations were wide open! We were able to get what we wanted and then go back the next day and change them with no trouble at all.

Chuck and Jennifer - have a great cruise! Maybe we can arrange a ship-to-ship FE program!

Hi Everyone -

We (DH, DW, DS, age 8) did this cruise last year and are booked again for this year since it was such a great trip!

We will be participating in the FE's, so add us to the list!

If there are any other boys in the 8 y.o. range, I'd love to arrange for a meet ASAP when we get on the ship. Our little man did fine last year but would have loved to hook up with a friend. :cool1:

We did this last year and it was quite expensive but did get us there without any troubles. We were concerned about being able to purchase a wristband once we got there if we went ourselves (without excursion). There was some talk on the DISboards last year about reserving a room at a nerby hotel that comes with wrtistbands.....apparently it was cheaper than the DCL excursion, especially if you have a couple kids. I do not recall the name of the hotel, does anyone know about this?

Bottom line: we'll definately go to Atlantis/Aquaventure again this year, since it is a fun time and gorgeous place to be. But, we'll probably get our own cab/transportation and buy the wristbands when we get there since we know our way around the resort.

Hope that helps!

Hello everybody! 75 days until our cruise and we are getting excited! I want to join in the FE but am still a little confused about them...we're first time cruisers and everything is a bit overwhelming for me! The excursions are especially overwhelming me. We have 4 kids (17, 14, 11, 8) and it gets expensive when you add it all up! Will it be warm enough in November for Atlantis?

Anyway, wanted to say "hi" to all our cruisemates out there!

Wendy, Jennifer, Larry and us

If anyone else would like to participate, please post...admittedly, w/a smaller group, deadline can extend until 7-10 days prior to cruise depending on travel plans, but, if you are interested, please post...

As an FYI, Florida resident rates have not been opened on this one yet, though there appear to be a significant number of cabins available...thus if the Florida rates do open at 30 days, which is still possible, there will likely be some late additions to this thread and FE's ( we have been the late addition in the past b/c of Florida rates)..

Could you folks who are FE veterans give me a few ideas about the types of things we should bring to fill them? Here are some questions that are running through my head (and there's a lot of banging around going on in there!) :headache:

What types of things do we need to bring to fill FEs?
Do we get stuff for kids only or adults, too?
Do we bring enough stuff for each day of the cruise or several times?

Thanks!!! Can't wait! :yay:

If FL rates come out, we will likely use the surplus to go Veteran's Day weekend as well...but we should know Sunday or Monday b/c if they are going to be released, that is when it will happen...

That said, best source of FE stuff is often Oriental Trading Company, especially w/larger groups, which this is not...but still works...basically, kids tend to benefit most, but often there are miscellaneous inexpensive adult oriented items as well....there really are no rules...given our proximity to various Disney outlet stores, we often load from there for smaller groups...you can deliver once or spread it out over the trip...we have not decided b/c we are waiting for a final tally..

I suspect Wendy will chime in with some non-Florida resident thoughts...:)

Oh, as to the other question:

D = Disney (as I always understood it anyway, there may be variations)

So:

DH = Disney husband
DW = wife
DD = daughter
DS = son

and then you see DMIL = mother-in-law etc

Some were made by Wendy, who is very good at this stuff, and some by Michelle, who is Cruisecrzy (sp?) on the 7 night thread for Turkey week...

However, while Magnets are allowed, other items which require being affixed to the doors by other means are not...and you could be charged if cleanup is necessary...

Also, we recommend bringing a zip tie (like from a large plastic bag used for leaves for example) to secure your FE to the "fish" outside your cabin door...it helps prevent the FE from disappearing, which although rare, does occasionally happen...the time we have seen FE's disappear, it has often been due to location, like near an elevator where there is heavy foot traffic.

Hi Everybody! I'm getting super excited! I will wait a few more days and then send everyone a PM with stateroom numbers (for the people I have). Getting the cruise documents in the mail made it feel like it's going to happen! We booked this cruise on last year's Thanksgiving 4-night on the Wonder, so it has been a whole year for us.

We are flying into Orlando on Monday. We're spending two nights at the Boardwalk Villas. We're planning to spend Tuesday at Epcot and have dinner reservations at Via Napoli, so I'm excited about that! Wednesday morning we have breakfast reservations at Cape May Cafe---we have to get in at least one character breakfast for our DD.

The countdown is on! :banana::banana::banana:

Just ordered my Fish Extender. Very excited.

I'll be flying down to Disney for the weekend on Nov 12-14 to grab some stuff for my fish extender friends. If we can get a final count in the coming weeks, that would be very helpful.

After the short weekend, I head back on the 24th for the cruise and staying the entire following week at the Bonnet Creek Resort.

It looks like a few of you have been on the Turkey cruise before. I know Mickey/Minnie will have their Thanksgiving outfits on. And there is a traditional Turkey Dinner. Anything else special happen?

How about Black Friday (Nov 26th). Any special deals on board. The cruise is at Sea so the store could technically open for sales. Wouldn't that be cool. 30-50% off at 5AM? Maybe they already do that.

As always, any info is very helpful. This will be our second Disney Cruise. Our first being our Honeymoon back in 2001.

Lastly - Should I do the Atlantis Aquadventure package? It's quite pricey? Is it warm enough at Nassau for the water park?

This is going to be a GREAT cruise... We have been several times at Thanksgiving... Chuck and Lisa have been 6 or more times at Thanksgiving I believe.

As to sales on Friday... The only thing that I remember was a promotion on the buy bracelets by the inch... They posted something on the Navigators.. I do believe that we might get lucky with a PreMEAR this year... I think that Tangled the new Disney movie should be released that week.

I have never done the Aquadventure package... We have booked a single for at the Atlantis for the day and it worked out good for us. In November the water temp is still a little cold for our family so we prefer to do this when we cruise in the Summer months.

Hope this helps a little... We are now leaving in under a month....

YES, it looks like we will get to see TANGLED while on board... My DD and I are really looking forward to seeing it.

The Fish Extender
What is a Fish Extender? Where did it come from? What does it mean to me? What if I am terrified of fishes? All these questions and more answered in this episode of SOAP.

Background
A fish extender is a “secret Santa” of sorts. The idea is that a group of DISers exchange gifts during a cruise. The first Fish Extender Exchange is said to have been started during a Panama Canal repositioning cruise. It is called a “Fish Extender” because outside of every stateroom there is a fish mounted on the wall. It was put there by DCL as a way to deliver notes without entering your room. Now DISers use it to hang their Fish Extenders. The actual extender is like increasing the size of your mailbox, if you will.

The idea behind fish extenders is: Share some magic with your fellow DISers. Also known as, its better to give that to receive.

Tell Me More
Fish Extenders have all sorts of looks to them, depending on the cruisers tastes, size of family, specific event, and character.

Important Details
Requirements for your Fish Extender are:
•you are able to hang it from the Fish in the hallway (size requirements and zip ties later)
•it has a pocket or pouch to hold the gifts you will receive
That’s it. Breathe. Relax.

Where Do I Get a Fish Extender?
Some folks make their own Fish Extenders.
Some buy Fish Extenders from places like e-bay.
Others find creative things to use as Fish Extenders.

Here are some instructions for sewing your own 'traditional' Fish Extender: Sew it yourself Fish Extender.
Here are some instructions for people that don't/can't sew so well: No-sew Fish Extender

Specifications
The wall that the fish extender is hung on is roughly 8” wide. If you make your extender much wider, it will stick out into the hallway and/or hit your stateroom door.
The fish to hang your extender from is about 5’3” off the floor. When deciding upon a length for your extender, be sure you keep in mind that you will hang it from the fish, which will add overall length to your extender.

What’s With This Zip Tie Business
A zip tie (or cable tie) is a handy piece of equipment to secure your fish extender. We don’t want any fish extender nappings. Let’s face it, even on a Disney Cruise; there are people out there that have deviousness running in their veins. The zip tie helps to deter this. This is an explanation from a fellow DISer:
“If you look at the ribbon on any fish extender (that is what you place over the fish) that is how the "extender" hangs on the fish. It is very easy to just remove the extender by just un-hooking it from the fish. So, you take your zip tie and cinch it around both of the ribbons that are hanging from the fish on both sides... and you cinch the zip tie so that the two ribbons squeeze around the fish making it impossible to remove the extender.”
“The zip-tie goes around the ribbon or string that attaches to the fish... and you place it just under the fish... it actually scoots itself up to the fish as you tighten it... the trick is to leave it NOT so tight so that you can get your scissors or nail clippers thru it when you are ready to take it down.”

Think about it like a Club except instead of securing your cars steering wheel, it holds the strap your fish extender hangs from securely to the fish.

The Magic of Fish Extender Gifts
So what do people put in the Fish Extenders? How often do you deliver gifts? What about kids?
People give all sorts of stuff. Here are some pics of Fish Extender bootie.

Gifts can be regional in theme.
Gifts can be Disney related.
Gifts can be event specific.
Gifts can represent you.
Gifts can be almost anything.

Delivering your gifts can be a daunting task. The other people that signed up for the Fish Extender exchange will be all over the ship. Walking the ship isn’t too very tough. Walking the ship, carrying your gifts, trying to find specific staterooms—that’s a different story.

Gifts are delivered throughout the day and night, totally dependent upon your schedule. It did seem that there were a lot of deliveries on the first full day aboard the ship.

Some instances a gift is given to each individual. Sometimes it is given to the entire the cabin. Quite often children get special gifts just for them. If your cabin has a roommate situation, where you both are participating in the Fish Extender Exchange, but do not reside together in real life, please state that when you sign up. Each person would then be listed and each person would receive gifts of their own.

Some important things to remember about gifts:
•Some people have food allergies. (i.e. cinnamon, peanuts, coconut, etc.). If you do, please mention that when you sign up for the Fish Extender list.
•Be aware of how much space will be needed to transport your gifts to the ship (and then home again). I ended up shipping a box (15”x15”x15”) full of FE Stuff home.

Groups
Does the thought of purchasing, assembling, transporting and delivering a massive amount of Fish Extender gifts worry or frighten you? Joining a group may be just the solution to your concerns.

A Fish Extender Group is a group of DISers that pool their resources (money, time, creativity) toward a fish extender gift.

Groups do not need any formal association. They can be random DISers that want to join a group. They can be people from a certain state or country. They can be from a demographic (Redheads, Firemen, Teachers, etc.)

One person should act as a group leader, collecting and distributing input from the rest of the group. It is a good idea to e-mail everyone in the group about the group’s gift.

Once a group’s gift is decided upon, the total cost (don’t forget shipping) is divided between the members of the group.
Onboard, it would be easiest to divide up the total number of staterooms participating in the fish extender exchange between members of the group. For example, if there were 180 staterooms participating, and 12 members in your group, each person would deliver 15 gifts.

Miscelaneous
Signing up for the Fish Extender on your cruise should be relatively easy. Whomever is going to head up the task should be able to keep track of the changes throughout the thread and keep record of them, updating the list as necessary.
From time to time, peoples cabin number changes. If this happens to you, please post a note on the thread so the list can be updated. One of the first few posts of the thread should contain the list of participants, their cabin number, number of adults, number (and age) of children, allergies, and special notes.

If for some reason you cabin number changes close to the sail date, or you upgrade your cabin at the port, that information needs to be shared with the rest of the Fish Extender group. The easiest way to do this is to have an update list posted. Someone who signed up for the Fish Extender Exchange should volunteer to do this.
Now here are a few tips:
1) If you can ship your gifts ahead of time, do it - saves so much room in your luggage. Make sure you allow enough time for your package to arrive prior to the start of the cruise. You don't want to get to the ship and discover that your package did not make it to meet you.
2) Be sure you have room in your luggage for the goodies you will receive. I thought I would have so much room in my suitcase since I had given away the goodies I brought; however, I had just as much to take home!
3) If you are talented and can make your gifts - they are so appreciated. All gifts are awesome, and homemade ones are like icing on the cake! ((or the meringue on the pie!!)
4) Deliver your gifts a floor at a time - maybe one floor a day.
5) Plan your delivery - either map them or organize by number.
6) Trip personalized gifts are awesome - some of the coolest gifts were items that were personalized with our cruise dates or motto (pens, notepads, etc)
7) Fasten your Fish Extender to the fish with a zip tie - there was a report of a near Fish Extender napping on our cruise thread - I think personalizing the Fish Extender helps, too.
8) Make delivering the gifts a family affair. At one point I could hear a cute family whispering outside my door as they had the kids put the goodies in the Fish Extender.

Remember, when you do a Fish Extender you will be the envy of many on the ship! I was stopped a couple of times asking how we got one of those and how could they participate! Of course, those folks have now been informed of the Disboards!

As to the water temperature being too cold this time of year, I think it depends for many people how far north you live and therefore what you are accustomed to during the summer months...for us South Floridians, anything not bathwater warm is frigid and we will likely not be spending too much time in the water....but many people will.

I have no idea what our cabin number is and I can't remember from when we went last year if we even knew our cabin number before we got to the port. Well given the known dining rotations, yes I believe there is Pirate's Night, and likely a slightly modified Thursday menu, similar to the Magic (except that here it won't be lobster night).

I will however shoot off an email to verify, but I am about 99% sure there will be Pirates....

I foresee the possibility of late bookings so I would not cut off FE until as late as possible...

As for a meet, I would suggest Deck 10 Starboard (the side overlooking the pier) midship right after the mandatory drill and just prior to the Sail-a-way party.

Not sure about the Dis-green shirts though Wendy...

A few years ago when they first started Pirate Night everybody dressed up and their were alot of Jack Sparrows running around. Wonder if many adults still dress up?

Also, I'd be happy to start compiling a fish extender list, if no one else wants to do that. Just PM me with your screen name, stateroom #, guests in your stateroom (with kids' ages)...I'll start a spreadsheet that we can print and take with us. Sort of like this...

Believe it or not, they have not put out Florida resident rates for this cruise, or not yet anyway...however, the Florida rates tend to be more prevalent on the Magic, while other discounts like those in the travel industry seem to apply more to the Wonder, though that is not always the case.

Anyway, as to Pirate night, it appears that it will be night 3 on this cruise, ie not on Thanksgiving.

I believe FE is at 6 or 7 families right now.

Hi,

A meet and great the first day would be great. We will not get a cabin assigned until we check in at the cruise terminal. We just know it's gtd.
So during the meet and great we can let you know our cabin number and write it in on a master list that is handed out, or I can write it on cards to hand out at the meet.

If we could get each families last name in the final FE list that would be fantastic. We are planning on making personalized gifts.

Thank you for putting all this together.

We will also be dining at Palo's on Thanksgiving, I was worried that they would have "Pirate Night" on that night, but as per one of the posts here it looks like it's the following night which is great because we've missed it by eating in Palo's on our last 3 Disney cruises!

DH, DS (13) and myself will be cruising...staying at the Radison Tuesday night (arriving VERY VERY late/early) and shuttling over Wednesday morning. Any Meet & Greets planned?? I have a friend who is the General Sales Manager of Senior Frogs in Nassau if anyone would like to perhaps PM me about a private party there for a few hours??!! :-) I haven't even attempted to read back through posts, but hope to have time to do that soon.

Well the only downside that I can think of to having Palo for T'Giving is that you will likely miss either a traditional meal (if you want one) or miss out on some of Palo's specialties....also, if, like us, you are also doing the brunch on Friday for the day at sea, back-to-back Palo meals can be hard on the stomach due to the quantity you are likely to consume...

Thus we have Palo brunch on Friday and dinner on Saturday...also, one can easily do both palo and Pirate's Night so long as you sit down to eat by about 8pm...we have done that before...though personally, I can limit Pirate's to the last 10 minutes or so...but then this is our 11th Disney cruise..

For those who are new to the thread, the previously suggested Dis-Meet would be Deck 10 Starboard (overlooking the pier) right after the mandatory drill and just before the Sail-a-way party....

Also, Wendy's husband and I will be very easy to spot both on Deck 10 and at the port (or anywhere else I suppose) as we are both about 6'8" tall...

Hi everyone. Busy Thread today...

My last Disney Cruise was back in 2001. I know lots have changed.

Can anyone explain which day is pirate night? We currently have Palo booked for the last night of the cruise. Is that a good night or should I change it to a different night?

Any suggestions are welcome!

I have been advised Pirate Night is Friday and we also have Palo booked for Saturday...that said, Pirate Night fireworks are weather dependent and potentially can change nights, especially on a short cruise when we stay close to land...since Pirate's is always, I believe conducted near land just in case...

Getting close!

We arrive in Orlando from Charlotte, NC on 11/20 for 4 days at AKL before the Turkey cruise. It's been 4 years since we've cruised with Disney, so we are really pumped! Hoping for good weather in FL and Nassau. :worship: We booked the Aquaventure excursion. We've never done that one before!

My oldest (DD14) has been planning for FE gifts - she's all into it and excited that there are some "little ones" participating in the FE fun! When do you guys think the cut off for FE will be - when we have the final list? :confused3 We want to order a few things online, so need a bit of a heads up.

Hope everyone is having fun getting ready! 19 days to go!

Hey Jennifer,

I have two packs of crayons that someone lovingly created for a FE thing a few years ago. I was suppose to take my neice with me on a cruise and at the very last minute she couldn't get out of school. So, I got a few trinkets sweetly delivered to my my DH & I's cabin that I have been giving away over the years. Anyway, it's just DH and I on this cruise, so I don't really want to particpate (good luck finding my cabin on deck 6 anyway). But, I would really love to share these two gifts for your exchange. One is a handmade Peter Pan crayon pack and the other is Belle and the Beast. I'll be happy to bring them onboard with me. Just tell me if ya'll want them and what to do with them. :)

Just finished the 10 pages...yes, I am a lil excited

Tangled - DD informed me that we will get to see it on the ship.

Aquaventure - the downlow
We have done this several times but never as an excursion.
With 6 people, the excursion $$ is out of the question.
We have always booked Comfort Suites or Atlantis for the night.
Comfort suites is the ONLY hotel you can book that will give you full access to Atlantis (besides Atlantis of course).
Book a room and Save lots of $$

We have 2 rooms booked at Atlantis for our Dec. cruise.
On this Thanksgiving / Birthday cruise, I think we will stay low on Nassau day. Maybe walk around a little but thats about it.

Hmmm...all these late additions from Central Florida...sigh, but no Florida resident rates this time...discounts to other categories though...but cannot complain as we have had Florida resident rates I think 7 times out of 11 so far and other than first cruise, have booked every cruise while on the ship for that discount.

That said, if you want to be in FE, please let Jennifer know asap so that she can post final list in next couple days so everyone has time to obtain FE goods...candidly, at this point, I have no idea how many families are participating, though it is nice to see that it is certainly more than the 5 we had a couple weeks ago.

Hi gtali97
Welcome!
Pirate night - on my past DCL cruises we have done the 7 nighter and many pep dressed up. Our first, our entire family did. After that, only the kids dressed up. All up to you!

photo credits, it will save you a lil $$. I guess it all depends on how many pics you will buy. Our first few cruises, my entire bill was pictures. :eek:I have gotten better control now. DCL is really good about letting you use your own camera to take pics. So I now take advantage of that!

I too am new to this thread and we also want to join in on the FE exchange.
I came across quiet a few great items today. Getting the list would be great so I can match kids and age gifts. No luck with finding my FE so guess I will have to come up with an idea within the next couple of weeks. :confused3

As to photos, we suggest buying the base package on the ship, and then adjusting or modifying same depending on how many pictures you ultimately choose to buy...

As to FE, I have even seen a Publix bag for an FE, though i do not recommend that one

Hi everyone! Just returned from a road trip to the new Disney Store in NYC.

I am leaving for WDW this Friday. If we can come up with a Fish Extender Deadline, that would be great. I'm voting for Nov 10th.

And if we can get a total, I'd appericate that even more. I want to buy as much stuff as I can this weekend (Friday-Sunday).

Thanks all! See you on the ship!

As to pictures, expect to spend between $150-250 if you buy pictures on board in packages, which is the only economical way to buy them....Xmas cards are extra if you want those too...however, you can usually get the same pictures taken with your own camera for most of the character and other shots you want, so there is plenty of discretion...that said, we strongly advise picking out most of the pics you want before late on the last night b/c Shutters is unbearable from the congestion at trip's end...one other note is that if you later decide you want to trade back a previously selected picture for another one, Disney will let you do that.

As to FE, I actually agree w/the 11/10 suggested cutoff and hope Jennifer will have the opportunity to post by then as we too are headed to WDW this weekend, although we do have Character Premiere stores locally here in South Florida.

All the TAs, have you gotten your cabin assigments yet? We got ours last week, less than a week after I booked! Last year it was the same, even though I was told over and over we would not get assigned until we got to the port.

Think we have to bail on the FE! I just don't have time to think about getting it together so quickly. My DDs would love it I know, but they wont have a clue, so it wont hurt them if we dont.

We would LOVE to change ours, but hey...at the rate we paid, can't hardly complain, but I do NOT by choice book a cabin at the back of the ship...tried to swap to another Cat 10 cabin (which there are several available), but was told that we can't change unless we ask at the pier....they said we can upgrade or go back to a GTY status, but that was our only choice....I told my hubby it's all his fault since he insisted on booking an INSIDE cabin..HA HA...oh well no matter what cabin we are in, we will have an AWESOME cruise! :cool1:

The mini navigator is good so when we meet we can make changes to cabin numbesr or get the cabin numbers of those who had GTY or made upgrades at the port. I sometimes forget names so I need a list handy...

Jennifer should be posting a list soon. Jennifer we really appreciate you keeping track of the list.

I was able to get in on the TA rate as well and received my cabin number last week. I am also on deck 2. Does anyone know if there is a lot of noise on deck 2? It looks like we are between the forward and midship elevators on the starboard side. I think there is a nightclub above us on deck 3.

We have been on deck 2 3 times.. We have actually wanted to be on deck 2 because it is very close to all the action on decks 3 & 4. We are not in our room very much... Just to sleep and relax. We enjoy being out and about.
We have not experienced much deck noise and even with so many cabins being on deck it is surprisely quiet. The usually kids running down the hall sometimes and that was it for us.

I actually like the lower decks because they are normally much more quiet! When you get down there, it is really just sleeping rooms so it tends to be more quiet than the higher decks. Not a big fan of not having a window, but that is more personal opinion.

I'm with Carlson Wagonlit. I was a corporate agent for years and then moved into data and reporting. I remember taking cruises on Carnival for $35/per person per day, but nothing like this fabulouse TA rate on Disney. We have a deposit on the Dream for April 7. Unfortunately it is retail and we could only book a verandah cabin. We'll decide after the Turkey Day cruise if we will still do the Dream in April. We are spending 5 days at Disney before the April cruise so may just decide to do a couple of extra days in Orlando and skip the April cruise to save some money.

Do many people dress up for Pirate's night? This is our first cruise and we found tons of pirate costumes and gear super cheap after Halloween.

Well it's been a few years since I have been on DCL and back then Pirate Night and the fireworks were a "new" thing and everyone dressed up. Their were so many Jack Sparrows running around that they could have an awesome costume contest. But, I am thinking the adults probably aren't into it as much now.

Personally, I'll be wearing black jeans with a pirate shirt and I'll be decorating my outfit with all those cute pirate night bandanas they hand out at dinner - I got a handful now. :) I figure that way I am particpating, but not going over board, plus less to pack! LOL! Gosh, speaking of packing- I have to go work on that some more now. TTFN....

They actually had some $25 rates this year on the Disney Cruise Ships for the longer transatlantic cruises this year. They had quite a few $25 rates last year. I took a 7-Night Eastern and Western last year at those rates. You can't pass them up at that price!

I agree with you! Alot of the adults really do not dress up. Most of the people that dress up are the kids. The adults tend to wear bandanas or hats for the night. It is still alot of fun! I did not think about hitting up after Halloween sales for the kids - great idea!

Disney cruises for TAs are almost always $25 a day, per person. Royal Caribbean is $40 per day, but never taken one of those at their TA rates. They just lowered the Disney ones though to $15 per day. Thats for insides though. I think we paid $30 a day for the balcony, but not sure. We have to prepay gratuities, so not sure how it worked out. Its a good 85% off regular rates though.

Well, we are close to retail on this one, but, we have had some exceptional rates in the past, though I cannot go into details, so we really have nothing to complain about....this will be our 7th straight Turkey week cruise and I think the 3rd or 4th with Wendy and family, though the others were on the Magic.

As to the location on the ship, I really do not think it will matter b/c this is a slow speed cruise as the ship is not going very far....if we were heading out to St Maarten, location would matter much more for anyone prone to seasickness b/c then the ships goes full speed quite often....on this cruise, the only possible slightly rough spot may be the first evening, as always, cutting across the gulf stream, and then only b/c many people do not yet have their sealegs.

The other thing I suggest for those asking about room location is to go to passporter.com or buy a copy of the passporter book on Disney cruises...the book identifies the pros and cons about many of the rooms, including those to possibly avoid and why....best book we have seen out there on the subject of Disney cruises, and we have sampled most of them...

Carnival and Princess have changed their programs. They only let you book a TA rate if you are a cruise agent. RCCL is cruisingpower.com. They have a list of available cruises and a form you fax in.

Disney does make it super easy for us to get their discounts, since we only have to have CLIA and not IATAN.

And just so we don't get kick off this thread for discussing things unrelated..............

What is this I am reading about the Kids Club being all ages (3-10) combined??? My 10 year old already is worried about it thinking its the typical 8-10 range. We cruised Disney last December and while she loved it, compared to RCCL, she didn't! RCCL was much much better suited for her. She wants to be active at all times and Disney doesn't provide that...too much free time. Where my 7 year old actually does better with that.

IT's a short cruise and it will work out, plenty for us to do. But just curious what everyone knows about the new kids club layout.

Not to be rude but I am thinking the mods dont like all the TA discussions.
And it seems as though the thread is starting to block out the normal discussions with everyone. No one wants our fellow passengers feeling cut out of a thread they started over a year ago. When we all joined in a few days ago.
How about all the TA's try to get together oneday on the cruise and we can chat about work related stuff?
Hope I didnt step on toes

On the kids club, we have only sailed the Magic but I dont think there is much different about the kids club for that age (3-10)
They do have the kids seperated by age. And they rotate them from Disney's Oceaneer Club, Lab, and other places around the ship.
When one age group is in the club, another age group would be in the lab...
We have never saw a 3 year old in the the 10 year olds.
My DD is almost 10 and is accustomed to being with older kids also but I am sure she will be fine.

We cruised on the Magic in Feb of this year and they had just changed the kids program. They still have the club and lab, but they don't make one age group stay in a certain area anymore. The kids have the choice to go to either any time they want. So, there could be a 4 yr old in the same place as a 10 yr old.

My daughter is 6, and she actually liked it better than in 2009 when she was forced to stay in a certain activity because of her age.

Also, the other answer I meant to include in the prior post is that there have been very mixed reviews on the Wonder's policy of mixing the kids by activity rather than by age...generally, those parents with multiple kids like the idea and those with one child have often liked it less so on average...

However, what has worked very nicely is for the 11-13 year old tween set...the new Out and About program for them has been a strong success and our son loved it on our last cruise in August 2010.

OK, I knew I was correct in that they are mixing the ages. .

Sorry for the mis info. We last sailed Magic Nov. of last year. And it wasnt that way then. At the time my daughter was 8 and she was always with the kids her age. I am shocked they allow the kids to be actually together now. Seems it would be a liability issue. With the amount of kids on Disney cruises.
I am also confused on how it works, I mean a 3 yr old has to stay put. So I guess its really that the older kids that have sign out privilages can go into where the younger group is? So if you think about it, its just like you said, that is not going to happen often. Maybe if they have a younger sibling / friend they want to be with.

Not sure about the Magic. However, the Wonder this summer had the new system where all children ages 3-10 were able to choose any activity in the Lab or Club at any time. Our DS who had been a huge fan of the OC and OL really did not like the new mixture. However, he had a wonderful time in the Out and About program (I believe ages 10-12 with sign out privileges). The only shortcomings of Out and About is that the Wonder does not have a real Tween space. As a result, some activities were in the Conference Rooms on Deck 2 and other activities were on various decks. Also, unlike the other programs that run all day and evening, the Out and About programs are for definite blocks of time. This summer, Out and About had 3 counselors and the same 3 counselors were at every activity. They needed breaks b/w activities. Our DS loved the counselors and the activities!!

when we are docked in Nassau....do they continue to have the Kid's activities on board the ship? DH and I are planning to spend the day at Sandals Bahamian and our DS (13) is worried that there wouldn't be anything for him to do with other kids on board....we just cruised the Magic, but we were all scuba diving at our ports of call, so it wasn't an issue. Thanks for any info!

Yeah... The final countdown begins... We are very excited too.

Maybe it would be fun if post some of our favorite tips for packing and so on.

A couple of mine are. Over the door shoe holder, with clear pockets. It is really great to hold all those little items that clutter up the room.

Also I like to bring Downey wrinkle release to freshen up my clothes..

As of now I think we might stay on the ship in Nassau this trip.
Since we have Atlantis booked for our Dec. cruise, I am not booking a room for this cruise.
DD and I *might get off and walk around a little but thats about it.
Anyway, my 13 yr old DS will be on the ship for Nassau day too.

Thanks so much for the FE list! Yeah!

Another one is the collapsible laundry hamper...but we also use the shoe holder for all sorts of things...but not shoes...

For those participating in FE, I also suggest a zip-tie to firmly attach your FE, especially if your cabin is near an elevator (ie where there is heavy traffic)...there has been instances of disappearing FE's...

While in Nassau, there will be kid's activities...one of Disney's perks is that parents can leave the ship for any excursion in any port and leave the kid(s) behind...in fact, the kids (like ours) often greatly prefer it that way...

Mine will be decorated though being at the back of the ship on a dead end path I doubt anyone but me and my two neighbors will see it. Oh well, I don't care I am doing it anyway- for me! LOL! I still have to see if it will all fit in a plastic ziplock bag. Currently they are decorating my fridge. :)

So stressed out! :scared:

1. Kids have been trying to "slouch" on schoolwork because I have been sick this week with a crappy cold.

2. Have to go back to SAV Sunday and paint our house so we can rent it.

3. DS birthday is Sunday

4. (new cruisers) are all stressed because all they hear about is pep eating Spam on the Splendor.

Can we just skip forward like ..ummm... 2 weeks?

Right now we are in 5500, but it could change I guess.

Also if you have everyone's last name we could customize each of our gifts.

Thanks,

Hi Everyone -

We (DH, DW, DS, age 8) did this cruise last year and are booked again for this year since it was such a great trip!

We will be participating in the FE's, so add us to the list!

If there are any other boys in the 8 y.o. range, I'd love to arrange for a meet ASAP when we get on the ship. Our little man did fine last year but would have loved to hook up with a friend. :cool1:

Hi Everyone - I have been locked out of DISboards  and had to finally start a new account (note similar names!) as we are only 2 weeks away!!!!

It is always a good idea to take a light jacket or a hoodie sweatshirt. The movie theater gets a little chilly and sometimes in the evening it is great to walk the upper decks and you need a sweatshirt.

i will update the stateroom later...i'll see if Lisa recalls it...I know it is one of the 2 category 5 cabins that is considered a 7 due to the ship's curvature causing a slight blockage of the upper corner of the balcony, but do not recall if we are port or starboard this time.

So for FE it looks like 12 total cabins and 16 total kids, plus adults of course..

Jennifer? Are you planning on including the first names of the children? We were planning on putting the kids names on the FE gifts - to separate boy and girl or older/younger things. If not, no big deal - we'll roll with it! :rotfl: We're leaving North Carolina Saturday morning, Nov 20!

Larry,
I know I am a plan freak but this is what I did.

I laid out all the goodies. Then took 11 walmart plastic bags and went down the family list. I picked out age/ gender realted items for each particular family and put it in the bag.
Tied the bag and then I stapled a tag the screenname on the outside of the bag.
That way every screen name bag has the appropriate gifts for thier kids.

I will pack the tagged bags in my luggage. But I do not plan to deliver the entire goodie bag at once.
Once on the ship I will distribute certain items from each of the bags on certain days.
