Hello.

I see there isn't a thread for this date yet. I figured I should start one.

My name is Kimberly and I am traveling with my husband, my two sons (currently 6 and 4) and my father-in-law.

We are Disney fanatics. We get to WDW about every other month and we do Disney Cruises at least once a year. We are looking forward to Alaska, but we are really not sure what to expect. We've never been on a "cold" cruise.

Hoping to find some other Disers going on this cruise.

Hi Kimberly,

We are also booked on this cruise!!

Cruisers are:
Julie (me)
DH
DD 16 (at time of cruise)
DS 13 (at time of cruise)

We also LOVE all things Disney:yay: but don't get to WDW as much as we would like. Now that the kids are older, it's much harder to find times to travel. Missing school is no longer an option, especially in high school.

Our last cruise was the PC cruise August of 2008. It was such as perfect cruise that we've been somewhat reluctant to book another, worrying that nothing could live up to that trip.

I look forward to getting to know other DISers on this Alaska sailing!

YAY! Finally another person! I don't know why there hasn't been a lot of people on this date? :confused3

We did the PC westbound and it WAS great! I'm sure this will be great, but very different! :thumbsup2

I like your ticker by the way! :cool1:

I see you are going on the Baltic cruise next summer. How cool...two new itineraries two years on a row!;)

We really thought about doing either a Med or Baltic cruse as well, but ultimately decided against it. We're taking the kids to Europe next summer, but there were just too many things we wanted to see that weren't included on either cruise, so we're just doing Europe via train/rental car instead. I look forward to reading trip reports from the European cruises this summer though!

Which other cruises have you been on? We've only been on the Magic until now. I know the Wonder's virtually identical to the Magic but maybe there will be little differences we'll notice.

I hope some other DISers find us. I know there have to be some others out there..

We'll be joining you all on the cruise. It will be myself (Ramon), my wife MK (short for Mary Kate), DS - 16 (Juan) and DD - 14 (Sara).

This will be our 4th Wonder Cruise and our 3 time to Alaska. Most of our cruises on the Wonder have been at Christmas, so we figured we'd go for the snow this time.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi Everyone!

We will be joining you on this cruise to Alaska. Cruising will be myself (Evette), my husband Lance and our daughter Kellie who is now 23. Kellie has Down Syndrome and just loves Disneyland and Disney World. We have cruised just once before and that was on the Magic in Sept. 2009. Looking forward to this cruise and seeing some of Alaska!

Hi everyone! This will be our third cruise with Disney, our first on the Wonder. We signed up for this one at Thanksgiving while we were on the Magic. DH will be 39 when we cruise, I will be 38, and DS will be 7. We're flying into Vancouver a couple of days earlier. We're used to being able to drive to Port Canaveral, so this cruise will be rather different for us. I don't even want to think about how to limit luggage, both weight and size wise:)

We were afraid we were going to have to switch to a later cruise because we are getting ready to move. The new schools get out later than DS's current school. As of right now, it works out with a few days to spare, so the sound you hear is me breathing a huge sigh of relief. I am surprised it is so quiet on the board too.

Glad your still on the cruise. :) Hopefully this is the cruise we'll be on, we won't know for sure until my DH bids for his vacation in early December 2010 for the weeks he wants as vacation weeks in 2011. We chose this cruise to celebrate our 30th Anniversary which is on June 6th. Keeping my fingers crossed.....

Hello Everyone!!! :wave2:

It doesn't seem like there are a whole lot of DISers on this cruise!!

Since there are so few, I went and started a roster right on my first post. If you would like to add names or stateroom numbers, just PM me. In addition, if you would like to do the fish extender game please let me know and I will add a blue "fish" after your name. Thank you!

We will be there. Myself, wife, and two daughters (ages 8 and 2). The ABD was just released. Does anyone plan on taking part? or are you booking excursions on your own? Also I'll have to get a fish extender, but put me down. I'll send you my stateroom shortly.

Well a newbie can't send a PM... so here's just a couple posts to get my post counts up. sorry list.

Do I find this on the ABD sight or the Cruise sight - I dod not see shore excursions on the cruise sight - so I am assuming this is still seperate and on the ABD sight?

pjc4925

I like the look of it but would have to call to get a price quote to see how it compares to what we would do on our own... Have you called for a price quote yet?
OK I called. It is 2300 per person for adults and 2069 for kids additional... I think I will have to skip it and just pick and choose what we do! If I had known in advance I might have saved up enough money but I am barely going to have the money to pay for shore excursions and the cruise!

pjc4925
12-20-2010, 01:16 PM
It is 2200/ per adult and 2050/child, plus taxes.I may be off by a couple dollars, but that is pretty close. There is also a rumor that all photos taken on the boat and by ABD are included. I know we spent a couple hundred dollars on photos last time we went and having the photos added would be a big plus.

I've been checking out the shore excursions, there sure are a lot to choose from! We will have to do more sightseeing type excursions (tour bus, boat) since our DD has mobility issues and walking any distance becomes a problem. Thankfully there seems to be many of these types of excursions to choose from, now to just decide!

OK - family wants: walk on blue ice, zipline...

thinking:
Juneau -
Glacier Adventure by Helicopter - mentions "river of ice" - I assume that is blue ice??

or

Mendenhall Glacier by Helicopter w guided hike - anyone know if we will see/walk on blue ice?

Skagway -
Mammoth Waterfalls & Ultra Zip Adv.

or

Adv. Park & zipline

Ketichan -

walk around creek street (although I would like the Bering Sea Crab - my family says no)

Please let me know if you have info that might sway my decsion one way or another.

Also, I suppose I could zip in Juneau and glacier in Skagway - especially if anyone knows for sure that we will walk on blue ice!

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or info!

Good Morning Everyone ! So excited to be joining you on this cruise. It will be myself, hubby and our two sons ages 9 and 5. We changed our cruise date from the 5/31/11 sailing to accomadate my husbands work schedule. It has been so long since I posted last. After returning from Europe with DCL I was so tired. We would love to participate in the fish extenders. Is anyone going to Whistler or Victoria?

We did the med and baltic capitals with DCL last year. I think about that trip everyday because my kids and I have so many wonderful memories.
I have pretty much planned my entire trip out already. I would love to go to Victoria but I dont know if I want to do the 90-120 minute ride over to Butchart Gardens. So with that said I think we will do Whistler instead. I have read that the train/bus ride there is very pretty. But then when I add it all up I say to myself "gee, is it really worth it just to take my kids on a train ride and riding on a raft ?" Hmm, I dont know...decisions....decisions.

But other than that I will be doing the summer dog sledding for sure. Boy, am I chatty tonite. I better get started on my sons homework. Until next time......:dance3:

:rotfl: Well Hello again ! Yes, the two princes are my little boys. We had a wonderful time at the Royal Ball. The entire cruise was phenomenal ! Have you seen the video footage from that evening? I have not printed any of the 6,000+ photos that I took on that 32 day trip. I better hurry up and do it before I leave in June for this trip. So, is anyone going dog sledding ? I went dog sledding about 11 years ago and paid $350 but that was before marriage and kids, I cannot justify it now. With all of hta said we will be doing the summer sled around the forest !:cheer2: So tell me Pixie, what was your favorite part of the trip ?

I loved it ALL! But the ball was special. I thought I must have won the golden ticket in a bar of chocolate.

Yep! The entire time I walked around Catherine's Palace I just kept telling myself "wow, I am really here.....I am in Russia, I am in Sweden....."
When I look at the globe it is hard to imagine that I was "way over there":woohoo: That european trip taught me the greatest lesson in life. I learned and now completely understand why "Less Is More". I am eternally grateful for that lesson! Here are my excursion choices....will anyone be joining me?

Skagway- 1) Liarsville Goldrush Trail Camp and salmon bake with the characters and 2) the White Pass scenic railway with exclusive youth activity. (Hopefully no schedule conflicts)

Juneau- 1)Sled dog discovery and musher camp AND 2) taking a taxi over to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitory Center and Macaulay ? Hatchery on my own

Ketchikan- This port was so hard for me to decide what to do. So much to see and so little time.
1) Rainforest canoe adventure and nature trail or
2) Bering sea crab fishermans tour
3) Fishing AND
3) Lumberjack show- disney exculsive one

I am not leaving much time to shop am I?:scared1:

This will be our first ever cruise - my DMom, DDad, myself, and Dbrother. We're all so excited!!!! We're taking this as a very special celebration trip...Db is graduating high school, I'm celebrating my 21st birthday, and my parents are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary, all in one summer! SO, we're having one last major family vacation to celebrate...and who better to celebrate with than Disney??!!

Also, one newbie question...what is the fish extender game???

I've only briefly looked at the shore excursions for Alaska. I'm mostly consumed with my upcoming Dream MV trip in 1 1/2 weeks. When I get back, I'm going to have to dig into this a little more.

Here is a link for Fish Extender info:
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=33184281&postcount=2

Basically, if you participate, you hang a fish extender (a type of bag) over the fish next to your stateroom door. Everyone who participates buys or makes an item for everyone playing the game and delivers it at some point during the cruise to all playing. It is nice to come back to your room and find little surprises in your fish extender. The item is normally a trinkety item. I've had all kinds of stuff: pens, oriental trading type items, paper note pads, highlighters with printed cruise name on them, bookmarkers with cruise info on it, cruise survival kits, something related to givers hometown - had a woman make Ohio buckeye keychains once, Pirate eye patches for pirate night, dis green bead bracelets, etc. etc. etc. It is a lot of fun!!! If anyone is interested, please let me know and I will add FISH next to your name on the list on the first page.

I was looking for new Disney/Pixar movie release during our cruise. Unfortunately Cars 2 is supposed to be released June 24 so we just miss that one. Newt was also supposed to be the summer of 2011, but I think that one was cancelled. Anyone know of any other Disney movies that may be released while we were on board?

Pirates 4 comes out 5/20, so that's at least one to be looking forward too... even though for whatever reason I have not liked any of the pirates movies, no matter how many times I have seen them.

Mars Needs Moms and Pirates of the Carribean. Both scheduled for the end of May.

Hello - I'm on the May 31st cruise but wanted to pop on over here to give you guys a heads up. DCL just announced later this afternoon a Kids Sail Free promotion for certain Alaska dates depending upon the room booked. Dreams Unlimited just sent me this email and my total on the cruise is no $2000.00+ cheaper than it was this morning.

I hope this helps - > http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/special-offers/kids-sail-free-alaska/

Hello Everyone! We just booked this cruise. We had actually been planning a beach vacation (I love warmth and sun), so this is going to be a real change for us. But, we just couldn't pass up the opportunity of an Alaskan Cruise with Disney.

We are SO excited to be joining all of you guys! Also excited to do the FE!
We are:
DW- Kellie (what a way to celebrate 40!)
DH- Jay
DS- Hunter (11)
DD- Piper (7 turning 8)

I have been to Alaska before (my brother was stationed there for many years) and I can't wait to experience it's beauty and grandeur with my Hubby and kids.
So happy to meet you all!!

We decided to take advantage of Kids Sail Free offer and upgrade our room to a verandah. I hope it will be worth it with all the sights to see while sailing through Alaska. So our new room will be 6058.

Hello all! :wave2:
I am not positive yet we are going on this cruise but I just wanted to check in..I put a hold on a reservation this morning when I saw the Kids Sail Free deal....and before we confirm I wondered what you guys thought about the weather and what the ship acitivities will be like since there probably is no swimming?? Actually that's what my DD15 is worried about..what no shorts? No swimming? This will be our 3rd cruise but our last two were both Caribbean/Bahamas. I know what the ship activities are..and we love the movies, kids clubs, etc....but it does seem like it would be a little different to not lay by the pool..?? Just wanted your thoughts...
Hey Kellie (chernabogfamily) ...we were on your cruise last year...I met you when we were in line for pictures one night... my DS11 is a musical theater kid and we talked about your son being into that stuff too...do you remember me?
Anyway, hello all and I HOPE we will be on this cruise!! Just have to talk DH into it!!! :goodvibes

I remember you! I just mentioned meeting you to my son and he remembered when we were standing in line together (he remembers meeting your son in the kids club as well). That would be fun to be on another cruise together. Tell your husband it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that you just can't pass up!!! That's how we are looking at it.
I'm totally a beach and warm weather lover (especially after these next 2 days and the 18 inches of snow + sleet that we are supposed to get here in Missouri), so an Alaskan cruise is the complete opposite direction of where I would pick. I had been pushing for Hawaii incidentally. But...the Kids Sail Free deal came up, we love DCL, and Alaska is stunningly beautiful. When else do you get all three of those?
As far as what our kids will do on board: the usual activities like the kids clubs but probably minus the pool, although does anyone know if it is heated? We are hoping to actually do some of the family-oriented activities that they always have on board (like the game show, karaoke, play games in the Promenade lounge, etc) and enjoy family-time together. The kids rehearsal and performance schedule doesn't leave us a lot of family time during these spring months, so we're hoping to get some old-fashioned down time on board. Then when the kids are sick of us:confused3 and vice versa: we can enjoy some OR ALL of the tastings and such on board. ;) Andrea- join us, I'm sure we can find plenty to do. Maybe we can get our boys together and then they wouldn't feel quite so alone.

Hello again!! :wave2:

Kellie - I am so glad you remember us!! My son (Evan) remembers your son too!!! That would be so cool for them to know someone ahead of time!! We are still in the "deciding" mode...if you can believe it, my DH is in Florida (for work!) and I am stuck here in the Chicago blizzard!!! So we have to make a decision on this via phone!!! We have to put the deposit down by Thursday and pay in full by next Monday! (why is the pay in full date so early? Anyone know? I thought it used to be 90 days in advance)

I think I have my kids really excited about going on a different type cruise ...the excursions look so awesome (not sure how many of them we can afford!!) but I am sure even if we don't go on tons of excursions there are plenty of things you can do in the ports without spending tons of money. I have a lot of research to do!!!

Have a great day everyone!! I might be hanging out on the Dis boards tomorrow since I will be snowed in at home with the kids! Yay!! :goodvibes

So cross your fingers for us!!!!

chernabogfamily
02-01-2011, 02:14 PM
Totally understand the whole "getting stuck in a blizzard at home". I'm in Missouri and we are getting clobbered right now with near white-out conditions and snow, snow, snow!!! My husband is enjoying the warm weather right now too- he's in:cutie: San Diego. What's up with the guys missing out on all this shoveling fun we're having!:headache:

I don't know why the full payment date is so soon either, but I thought I read somewhere it's because the cruise leaves from an international port as opposed to a U.S. port (so the date is 120 days out instead of 75). I could be totally wrong on that though.

Andrea that would be such fun if Evan and Hunter knew each other and had someone to talk or hang out with while on board. Your daughter is older isn't she? My daughter loves to make friends to hang out with when we travel. Let's hope there are some families with 7-9 yr old girls on board or on this thread possibly.

My kids aren't all that psyched about a colder cruise either (especially with the temps outside right now), but the excursions won them over. They are both freaks about whales! So much so, that even though we live in MO we are season pass holders for Sea World. They love Shedd Aquarium and the Belugas as well. Here is our list of desirable excursions. Please everyone, give me your opinions on if they are good or not:
1. Whale watching cruise
2. Lumberjack show (the kids love their Wii Lumberjack game)
3. Visiting Gold Miners camp and panning for gold
4. tram up Mt Roberts
5. White Pass Railroad

We considered the Yukon suspension bridge, but a 45 minute bus ride each way for a 30 minute stop doesn't sound very appealing. Dog Sledding sounds awesome, but $400-500 per person puts it far out of our price range. Shoot, I'd be happy just wandering through the downtown shops in each city...or seeing the capital bldg in Juneau. We have to be choosy on which we do, in regards to finances...so I welcome all suggestions.
What is everyone else planning?

Hi, everyone! We were originally booked for an Alaskan cruise the end of July, but when I got word about the Kids Sail Free promotion, I checked it out and found that we could upgrade to a Cat. 9A AND save over a thousand dollars, so we're in!:cool1:

My name is Susan, my husband is Brian, and we'll be traveling with our two children: Brianna (16) and Brandon (13). This will be our 7th DCL cruise, and we're pretty excited about seeing Alaska. We are getting ready to leave in two weeks for Florida and then to sail on the Dream. So, I've been very focused on that cruise but as soon as we get back, I'll be focusing solely on Alaska.

We've looked at the excursions and have found several we'd love but also realized we'd need to take on extra jobs to pay for them.:rotfl2: We need to have a night where we all just sit around the computer and figure out what we're doing. When we went to Hawaii, I swear the excursions cost us more than the trip did. We hate to not do something because of cost cause we never know if we'll go again (atleast that's what I tell DH).:rotfl:

I look forward to hearing from all of you and am really excited to visit Alaska. It's one of those trips that my husband has dreamed about for a long time and once I heard Disney was going, it sealed the deal for the kids and me. Take care!

We just got off the Wonder on Sunday from the MR cruise, and I couldn't wait to get home to book another cruise!!! I always said I never had any desire to do an Alaskan cruise (I like warm weather too), unless it was with Disney...and lo and behold they announced they will be doing Alaska this year....While on the Wonder, we talked to some staff members about being from Vancouver and they said we should go to Alaska with them, but our response was "it's really expensive, but if they had a Kids Sail Free promotion, we'd think about it"....so much to my surprise when I got home on Sunday night, there was the deal on the cruise website!!!! I can't help but think it was fate and our trip is meant to be!!! Sooo excited!!! My husband's office building is right next to the Vancouver cruiseship terminal and I know he would be really depressed watching it dock every week knowing he wouldn't be able to board it, but now he can be excited and be proud to be part of this wonderful adventure!!!

There will be me (42), my dh (40) and sons (5 & 3). Hope to meet some or all of you onboard :) :cool1:

Soooo bummed... with 3 snow days this week we cannot take this cruise! :headache: Our kids won't get out of school till June 9th at the earliest..and DD15 has finals right up till the end so we can't take them out early. We are really disappointed. Thank goodness we had not put a deposit down or paid anything. The later Alaska cruises are SO much more money...not sure we can swing the Med cruise either...but I haven't given up hope. The upside for us is we can wait till the last minute if there are any deals..I work for an airline so we don't book anything ahead of time..
Hope you all have a great time! I will look for trip reports afterwards!
Kellie - Evan is sad he won't get to hang out with Hunter! Maybe next summer...another cruise? Take care! :goodvibes

Bummer! It would have been great to cruise together again. We're on our 4th snow day this week, and if there are anymore then the last day will be Jun 7th. We still have a few years before finals will start affecting it all, but you just made me realize that will be an issue in the future. So sorry you won't be there. Do you have a late summer Med Cruise (that you booked on board last year) that you're going on this summer?

Hunter is bummed as well. Of course we'll be cruising again:love::lovestruc:yay:!!!! We have a preliminary plan for Spring Break next March. Someplace WARM this time (like the caribbean).

Thanks :) MR cruise was great :) At least our family thought so and we LOVED the Oceaneers Club (not sure if our kids loved it more than us lol). It was so hard to come home to reality! I wonder if they will be showing the same movies on the Alaska run as they did on the Mexico one....hmmm I did read they don't do the Pirate Party and fireworks, which is a bummer. It's one of my faves. Guess we will have to go on another cruise next year....

We just moved from the June 28th cruise to this one to take advantage of the kids sail free offer. It will be me (Lorie), DH (Mike), and DD (Breanna, 15). One of the good things about moving to this cruise is that I be on board for my birthday which is June 9th.

This is our third Disney cruise. We did the Mexican Rivera in 2008 and the Baltic in 2010. Both were a lot of fun and I am sure this one will be too.

I am looking forward to getting to meet everyone.

We will definitely have to get them together, my little one Allie, loves to meet new friends. Our last cruise she felt a little left out because my older one was always hanging out with her new friends. She loves the kids club, I had to drag her out of the clubs to eat dinner with us and to see the shows. We were on a city tour in Talinn and the tour guide asked Allie if she were enjoying the tour. Well being a typical kid she was brutally honest, Allie told the tour guide she was board and just wanted to go to kids club. I was so embarrassed :)

Yea it will be a good way to celebrate it! It's been booked so we are for sure going!!! :cool1: We wont know our stateroom until we get on the ship though I believe we are booked category 11C at the moment though, hope to see some seals! Been looking at my grandma's photos from older Alaskan cruises, should be fun! Looking forward to doing some planning!

Okay! Please look at the front page and let me know if I have anything wrong! I was copying and pasting like a fool!

In addition, let me know if you would like to participate in the fish exchange and I will put a blue FISH next to your name! (I'll also definitely need a room number if you plan on doing FE)

Thank you!!!! :goodvibes

Thanks :) MR cruise was great :)

OOps! I missed you, but now I gotcha! :thumbsup2 Welcome!

We did Panama Canal crossing with MR once. I loved MR! :lovestruc

They may not have Pirate night, but they will do something!!!:wizard:

How was the Dream? We are so excited and can't wait for the next week and a half to fly by! Only bad news is that we just found out that our daughter will be having surgery the day after we get back from our trip. :sad2: She tore her ACL and miniscus at volleyball, so it will be a little slice of heaven and then surgery. Ugh!

I forgot to tell you that we are in room 2512. Thank you for adding us on the first page to the list of people on our sailing. Looking forward to Alaska!:thumbsup2

Susan

Well you are probably on your trip already! As you know by now, the Dream is wonderful! Hopefully they have ironed out some of the kinks! I hope you didn't have too much of a hassle getting on or off! :sad2: Did you ride the Aquaduck? :thumbsup2

We were on that Baltic Cruise too =)

Oh, yeah, I thought your name looked familar. I remember it from the FE list.

I see that you did an MR in 2008 too. We were on the June 8th one. Just wondering if we were on the same one then too.

Family's first cruise....doing the June 7, 2011 DCL Alaska Cruise and we are so excited. We're not letting the kids know what we are up to. Might actually try to surprise them if we can keep the secret long enough:). Going are me - Megan , DH - Jeff, DD - Brenna (turns 9 on cruise), and DS - McGreevy "Mac" (5).

First time posting to this thread....definetely interested in doing the fish extender.

I dont know my stateroom number though we might find out a bit before the cruise? we have a garantee room and I'm not 100% sure how all that works  I will give stuff out though either way it sounds like a fun little thing to do and I have LOTS of time on my hands!

We are in a GTY room also. You usually find out your room number a few weeks before your cruise (after you complete all the online check-in paperwork). The only way to know if you've been assigned a room yet, is to periodically check your reservation on the website. Like magic :wizard:, one day a room # will be there instead of GTY. We'll be waiting for ours too. So we should all be finding out around the same time.

That really is just too funny. It actually gets stranger. I saw your post on the poll about if you would do a FE. You said that you had a Winnie the Pooh FE and one other room did too. That was us. Ours was the one that got stolen. Our daughter was in A Winnie the Pooh's Christmas tail at our local community theater several years ago. She played Eeyore. So, I had to go with a Pooh themed FE.

I am so sorry that people gave you a hard time and accused you of stealing ours. I did not know they had done that until I saw your post yesterday. Ours was just a cheap mass produced one that I got off ebay. Since yours was a handmade one, it was much nicer. I never even thought about someone thinking that was ours. I was telling my husband about it this morning. He was just glad that someone did not turn around and take yours and hang it on our door thinking that they had found ours. That would have been really bad.

I will probably go with Pooh again this time around, but I will make sure it has our name on it this time so that there are no mix ups.

No worries =) I did feel like knocking on your door a few times to say "Sorry about your FE, but really it wasn't me =)." . I just kept thinking IF I were going to take something like that I certainly wouldn't hang it outside my door for the whole world to see :rolleyes1. I also thought of putting a note on ours saying No really this is ours. lol. But again, no worries, we are fairly easy going people and ultimately just got a good laugh out of it and a new story to tell, :) We are using the same one this year, our name is on the back but maybe I should personalize it some.

Yeah!! Congrats. We ended up saving so much money by switching our cruise (and downgrading our cabin some) that my DH let me book the Aug 16 Dream Cruise too. I would gladly have a downgraded cabin and do 2 cruises this summer. I loved my verandah but am not a cold person, so not sure I really wanted one in Alaska anyway. Hopefully I don't regret the decision too much =)

I can't book until Tuesday but I do not think anything will book up - the cruises are offering kids sail free because it is not as full as they hoped (at least that is my thinking)...I am booking a helicopter and a zip excursion but I can not tell what the differences are between all the versions offered and I can't tell which would be better for my family!

Anyone that has helicoptered to the glacier - would you think 20 minutes walking around or an hour is better?
6, 8, or 11 zips... I do not know what to book!

We were thinking of doing the Mammoth Waterfalls and zipline excursion, but this zipline adventure is new and does not open until May 6, 2011 so I can not find too much info on it. In the end we decided we will most likely do the Musher camp and sled dog trip this day and do the ziplining in Ketchikan.

I am leaning towards the Bear Creek Zipline Adventure because of the Rappeling and Mountain Slide. There are pictures and more information on the tour operators website .. http://alaskacanopy.com/

Mammoth is the one I currently have as our top choice - but like you, I worry since there are no reviews yet!! I had eliminated bear creek due to one review I read that said it is the beginner course and once there they were sorry they had not booked the Rainforest course offered there since it was the larger and to them, better course. So I have the other course that Alaskacanopy offers as my second choice after mommoth!
So many things to think about!! AAHHH

It is so difficult because there are so many choices. While I personally would prefer the more advanced course, it will be my DDs (12) first ziplining experience, so I thought the easier course might be better for her.

I just read the fine print there are different height & weight requirements for each ziplining excursion as well. So while my DD meets the age requirements, she does not meet the height/weight requirements for the Rain Forest Canopy and Zipline Adventure. So that just locks us into my original thought of the Bear Creek excursion. She weighs 71 lbs and the minimum for the Bear Creek is 70 lbs. It is close now, but I am hoping she will "Fatten" up a little bit between now and then :lmao:

I booked the night before the cruise (June 6) at the Pan Pacific Hotel (at Canada Place) on Hotwire.com. I thought I got a good deal and I'm very happy with the location. :cool1: Is anyone else staying there? We are flying into Seattle the night of June 5th and then taking the Quick Shuttle up to Vancouver on June 6th. I'm excited to be able to do online check-in, book excursions and hopefully a Palo Brunch on Wednesday March 9th. I'll be online right at 11:00pm Central Time Tuesday night!! Hi Everyone!! I haven't checked in for a VERY long time, but we are still on this cruise. :goodvibes So glad to see all the new DISers on this cruise!

We actually have added my father and niece, so now we have:
Me, DH, DD-16, DS-13, Niece-18 and father. We're in two SPH cabins 5522 & 5524.

We are getting to Vancouver a couple of days early and we're also staying at the Pan Pacific. Love the convenience of just going downstairs and getting on the ship! Post-cruise, we're heading to the Seattle area for several days.

I was able to book our Palo ressies last week :) both Brunch and Dinner. But we haven't decided on any DCL excursions yet. Wid book a private whale watching trip with Rum Runner in Juneau. Since we have 6 people we were able to get the ship to ourselves an it was actually less expensive than the DCL excursion.

Good luck to everyone booking activities next week!! :wizard:

We've been signed up for the June 7th sailing since March 2010 and we can't wait to get on board. :cool1: I love these boards and all their helpful hints. We've never been on an Alaskan cruise before and I think we're going to sign up for several of the "general" tours - Best of Juneau, White Pass train and gold camp visit in Skagway, and, of course, the campy Lumberjack show in Ketchikan. We're also debating a short helicopter tour. It's hard to decide though, there are just too many choices. There are 7 of us going (including our 12 year old) and getting everyone to agree has been difficult.

Has anyone seen any door magnets that have been mnade for the Alaskan cruises? We outfitted our doors on our latest Caribbean cruise and loved it.

Hello. I haven't booked a hotel or air as of yet. I've been busy booking our spring break trip. I think I'm going to look into the Pan Pacific Hotel. I think we are coming in the day before and we are going to stay for two days after.

Hello, everyone!:wave2: We are on the June 7 cruise, too...we're SOO excited! It will be me, DH (Larry) and DD (Hannah, age 11). Not sure if we'll be doing the fish extender this time around or not, but we're in #6634.

I am wondering what excursions everyone's booking/booked? Has anyone already booked Palo? We book as of midnight, and amazingly, DH is ok with staying up to book them online at 12:01. Hopefully I'll be back here tomorrow with good news!

Oh, and we'll be celebrating DH's birthday on the cruise...and we'll also be celebrating me being a year out of chemo and kicking cancer's booty....

I will be booking our excursions and hopefully a Palo Brunch tonight at 11:01 Central Time too!! We are doing the White Pass Scenic Railway in Skagway, Mendenhall Glacier & Whale Quest in Juneau and hopefully will also have time to do the Mount Roberts Tramway there too. In Ketchikan we will do the Saxman Native Village & Exclusive Lumberjack Show. My DD is 24 but has Down Syndrome and mobility issues so we aren't very adventurous as far as excursions go.

We will be celebrating our 30th Anniversary (June 6) on the cruise. Congrats on kicking cancers booty!! DD had Leukemia when she was 10 years old and we are so thankful everyday for her beating cancer.

I hope everyone is able to book the excursions and other activities that they want....I'll let you know tomorrow how I did. :)

For everyone staying at the Pan Pacific, it is a very nice hotel and very convenient, super close to transit and right downtown, if you have any questions about Vancouver I would be happy to answer them I do LOVE my city!

So I can't believe it, but DH and I actually did set the alarm for 11:50pm, woke up, booked our excursions, and fell back into bed. We got the Bering Sea Crab boat excursion in Ketchikan, The Enchanted Taku Lodge Flightseeing and Feast in Juneau, the White Pass Railway and Trail Camp in Skagway, and of course Palo brunch on DH's birthday!

For those who can't book yet, there were definitely openings for Palo brunch...you have your choice of day two, day three (Tracy Arm), and day seven, and it looked like there were at least three seatings open for each.

Glad you were able to get what you wanted. I did not start trying until this morning, but so far I am not having any luck getting into the system. I keep getting one of two pages. The first is the Please Wait page that never goes away. The second is Page Not Found. I have used the online system for our two other DCL cruises with no problems, so I don't think it is me. This is not a lot of fun. Hopefully I get through soon. I had read some other posts about people having problems with the system lately and that they deleted cookies and all that kind of stuff. I have tried all that, on two different computers, but it is still not working. Guess I will jut have to be patient...not something I am very good at. :sad1:

Hi everyone. I have been away from here for a few weeks (life got in the way of my vacation and Disney planning ;)). As soon as I started booking my excursions last night, our GTY room assignment showed up.
We are in room #2510. Not all that excited about being that far forward on the ship and down on lower deck, but who knows---I may love the room and location! :lovestruc

We booked our excursions and reservations last night. I overdid it, and since the hubby is away he didn't get to make any choices. So as soon as he is home, we will go thru all of them and could possibly cancel at least 1 thing (the Palo Brunch). We liked it last time, but we LOVE the chocolate souffle they have at dinner more. Tough decisions!

Anyone else doing the same excursions as us? Here's a rundown:

Juneau- Exclusive Whale Encounter and Glacier (my kids are cuckoo over whales); I also thru the Mt Roberts Tramway on there. Let's hope we have time.
Ketchikan- the Disney Exclusive Great Alaskan Lumberjack show only had the 4:30-6:30 pm slot left, whiich would end up being right in the middle of our dining seating and also right before the ship leaves port. Too much stress for me.:scared1: So, we just booked the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show for earlier in the afternoon.
Skagway- Liarsville Gold Rush/Salmon Bake Disney Exclusive. **** someone else was interested in this excursion- there were a couple of times available still for it, so you should be able to book it no problem.

Only a couple of excursions were unavailable (glacier trek, glacier dog mushing, jeep tour). So everything is still pretty open.

Palo was also open for High Tea/Brunch/and Dinner everyday it was offered still. I'm excited to do High Tea on our 1st sea day. I have never done that one, but my husband and I do enjoy high tea.

Enough talking about myself and our family cruise plans. What's everyone else doing??

Does anyone know or think that there will be a "Tea with Wendy" or some other kind of family afternoon tea event? My daughter really wants to do a tea and I thought some of Disney's other 7-night cruises offered them? Can you tell this is our first foray into a 7-night cruise??

Also, do they do a character breakfast on board? I thought I had read that somewhere as well. My son (11 going on 17 ) isn't interested, but my daughter is. She will be turning 8, so the characters are still fun to see (she's past wanting their autographs- yippee).

May I ask what GTY catagory you were in? We are still a 9B GTY. On our first Disney Cruise on the Magic we were in 2580 which is midship on deck 2. We liked deck 2 quite well which is why we chose a 9B GTY, but an upgrade would definitely be welcome! :rolleyes1

No upgrade. We booked a 9C GTY and got a 9C GTY room. We have done 3 GTY rooms on Disney, and have gotten the exact category we booked every time. Never an upgrade.

I was finally able to get the reservations to work. Looks like most of the excursions are still available except the few mentioned earlier, Exclusive Musher for a Day and Juneau by Jeep.

The main thing I was wanting to book today was Palo for High Tea. I was able to get reservations for two. I really wanted four, but it was not available. We just had friends book to sail with us, so I was wanting to go with them. I decided that the girls would just go and leave the husbands on their own for a little while. The only day available was the Tracy Arm day, but that was fine. That just happens to be my birthday so my friend and I will just go celebrate and enjoy some girl time.

We have not really decided which excursions we are going to do, so I will have to go back later to add those. I have asked DH and DD and the only response I have gotten so far is horseback ridding and dog sledding from DD. Guess I need to pin them down on that this weekend.

Hello, everyone!:wave2: We are on the June 7 cruise, too...we're SOO excited! It will be me, DH (Larry) and DD (Hannah, age 11).

Hello Pam! Welcome aboard! :wave2: I added you to the front page. :thumbsup2

Sorry I left out my important people:love:. There is me Khristy, DH Mike, DD AllyKay (Celebrating her 12th Birthday), my Awesome Parents (AP) Larry and Sharon and my terrific brother and his girlfriend John and Debbie. My DH and I are the cruise directors for my little band of misfits, but we love researching travel information. :surfweb: I think my stateroom is 6131 and I a bit intemidated by the FE, so let me think on that. ;)
Im so excited about this cruise!
Khristy

I gotcha all! :goodvibes

For everyone staying at the Pan Pacific, it is a very nice hotel and very convenient, super close to transit and right downtown, if you have any questions about Vancouver I would be happy to answer them I do LOVE my city!

Thank you Tink! :goodvibes

Hi everyone. I have been away from here for a few weeks (life got in the way of my vacation and Disney planning ;)). As soon as I started booking my excursions last night, our GTY room assignment showed up.
We are in room #2510.

HI! I put your room number on the first page! :)

Okay! If any information on the first page is incorrect, please let me know. :crazy:Also, if anyone is interested in the Fish Extender game, please let me know. It sure is fun. It is really nice to come back to your room and have little surprises waiting for you. (The kids especially love it!) :wizard:

You offered to give us advice since you are a Vancouverite. I'll take you up on that.

We are coming in on Sunday evening, so we will have all day Monday to explore the city of Vancouver. If you only had 1 day to show visitors around, what would you pick as the must sees?

We are a family of 4. My daughter absolutely LOVES whales, and belugas are her favorite. Is the aquarium worth it (she loves Sea World if that helps)?

I'm sure you have probably been to Grouse Mtn or the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Are all the events at Grouse Mtn worth seeing? The raptor exhibit and show, lumberjack show, wind turbines? My kids and husband have never riden a tram or ski lift either and I thought they might enjoy that experience (I have- I spent a number of years in Montana).

My husband loves all things Olympics related. Is there anything still in the city from the Olympics? The torch pillar or anything?

What would you suggest? Also- is there a particular food that Vancouver is known for and we must try?

Thank you so much. I hope I didn't ask too many questions. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

We booked the exact same excursions as you :lmao: Too funny ! I cannot tell you how many times I read and re-read the descriptions. I would still like to the White Pass train ride though.....

That is too funny. I wonder if we booked the same excursion times for everything as well. Are you going whale watching at 7:45 am? Going on the Liarsville Gold Rush/Salmon Bake at 8:45? And the Lumberjacks at 2pm? That would be too fun!

I would have liked tp do the White Pass train ride as well. Not enough hours in the day to fit it in though.

Hey! I just saw this I shall spiel a bit now and again later, I'm gunna ask a couple of people their opinions too!

If your daughter loves belugas then the Aquarium is an awesome place! It can get pricey, especially for a family of four, and it isn't massive like Sea World but there are belugas, dolphins, otters, and lots more. I LOVE Stanley Park (where the Aquarium is) its beautiful, there are the totem poles a pool and beaches, a great place for a picnic!

I have been to both the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain. Personally I HATED the Bridge mostly because I am terrified of heights and I was with a bunch of rowdy Kiwi's shaking the darn bridge... not fun!:scared1: It is very pretty up there but it is a bit out of the way. Grouse is awesome The gondola up is a highlight, I have seen the lumberjack show, its entertaining however pretty much the same as every other one, you see one you've seen 'em all I haven't seen the wind turbines or the raptor exhibit, it's been awhile since I've been up there!

There are some things kicking around from the Olympics I believe, I think the torch is still up... I asked one of my friends she will know better than me whats still down there, I fled to Seattle for most of that! Edited to add that the Torch/Cauldron thingy is infact up, it is a permanent feature between Canada Place (where the Pan Pacific Hotel is located, also where we get on the ship) and the new Convention Center, it's hard to miss, wont be lit but it's there! edited again to correct myself it is on the far side of the Convention Center not between the two buildings, it's very close to the hotel, just a short walk to the other side of the new building :)

and food... ahhh lol There is soooo many places downtown to eat... Vera's is always amazing if you like burgers. Really there is every kind of food you can think of and it's all good! There is a little cupcake store (Cupcakes) just off Robson Street that has the BEST cupcakes EVER, Katie and Suri Cruise have been spotted there a couple of times

I would definitely try to spend at least a bit of time strolling around Gas Town, it's touristy but very quaint, it wouldn't take a whole lot of time, most of the shops sell the same stuff, but see the old Steam Clock and the cobble stone streets.

These places are all pretty far apart so you have to pick and choose what is right for your family... I would suggest looking at this site http://bigbus.ca/home/ they do tours and would make doing more easier I believe Grouse and Stanley Park are two of the BEST things Vancouver has to offer, there is so much more but those would be my picks. I shall ask a few people and keep thinking on restaurants and such hope that helps and I don't mind clarifying or answering anymore questions!!! :thumbsup2

I think I may be stressing over this too much. I am at a loss as to what to do about the hotels before the stay.

I looked on hotwire and was tempted to go that route, but am scared I may not get the right room configurations for our party, we have 8 adults and 4 kids. I want to at least get 3 rooms with 2 beds and am afraid they may only give us single beds which would be a little awkward =).

No one in our party really wants to pay for the disney transfers so I am looking for hotels that are close to transportation. (plus some people are driving). I found the best western downtown that offered airport/cruise transportation, but I knowvery little about the hotel.

The Pan Pacific is real close and we can take the train (skytrain?). It is the more expensive option but the deal my travel agent got us is only $50 more than the best western, so maybe the better option in the end.

At this point I am begining to think I am over analyzing this and stressing way too much for vacation .. lol.

We opted to go the easiest and most stress free route by doing 2 nights at the Pan Pacific. I had the same issues about DCL transfers and transportation from YVR to hotel and to the cruise terminal. I figure that with us being right beside the cruise terminal, I can start to relax and actually feel like I am on vacation. I thought I had read that you take the Canada Line from the airport to downtown, not the Skytrain. I better look into that and find out for sure which it is.

Who all si staying at the Pan Pacific the night before??

Well I just decided to do it, we booked for the Pan Pacific. There will be 12 of us all together (we have added another family just last week .. lol). I think if I understand correctly, the skytrain is the name of the whole system and the Canada Line is the specific train you want to take from the airport to the pier. http://tripplanning.translink.ca/hiwire?.a=iScheduleLookupSearch&LineName=999&LineAbbr=999

I apologize for the long delay in responding. I will see you for Liarsville but the others are later times. We are doing the 950am whale watching and the Exclusive Lumberjack at 430pm. I may change the whale watching to 745 so that I can enjoy the remainder of the day without feeling rushed. My husband however, would not like to be up at 6am to eat and "chase whales". But hey, time is of the essence....you snooze, you lose ! I probably will change it because I want to enjoy a nice king crab lunch without rushing and/or possibly take the kids dog sledding ( if bargains are offered at the port).

Hello again everyone! Been off of the boards for a while, getting back into the swing of college academics  We ARE still going on the cruise, and SO excited to see how many people are going on this cruise!!! Also, I realized I never properly introduced our cast of characters: I'm Kristin (will be 21 by the time we're cruising!), DB, Stephen (18), DM, Gretchen, and DD, Alan.

Having never been on a disney cruise before, we can't book until the 24th, but we're hoping to do Best of Skagway tour, either the dog sled summer camp or Mendenhall Glacier Adventure Hike in Juneau, and one of the ziplines in Ketchikan. We're also hoping to book Palo, we're thinking dinner, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what's still available. Is there a rotation dinner we absolutely shouldn't miss? Wouldn't want to book Palo for that evening!

Question about hotels - we are flying in a few days early to explore the Vancouver area before the cruise, and are trying to decide on a hotel right now. My dad's a Starwood rewards member, so we are going to do either a Sheraton or Westin for most of the nights, but we were wondering whether or not to switch to one of Disney's 'affiliated' hotels the night before the cruise. Are there any benefits to staying at one of those hotels? Also, I know everyone's been saying it's a lot cheaper to do your own transfers rather than Disney's, but where can I find information on Disney's transfers????? I can't seem to find anything about it on the website. :confused3 Thanks!

I don't think there really is any benefit to taying at one of the Disney "affiliated" hotels, unless you were using Disney transfers from the airport/hotel/port. Vancouver seems to be a pretty easy city to get around in, with lots of city transit options. I know quite a few people are staying at the Pan Pacific and I believe there is a Westin not too far away.

Good luck with all your bookings and excursions tonight!

So excited to hear about everyone wanting to do the FE! We've never done it either, but it sounds like so much fun!

Also, just booked the Mendenhall Glacier Adventure Hike at 8:45 am in Juneau and the Disney Exclusive Great Alaskan Lumberjack Enhanced Show at 4:30 pm in Ketchikan! (Also booked a Swedish Massage for 8 am day 6!!! Woo-hoo!!!)

Hope everyone is having success booking the shore excursions they want!

Finally, I realized I never said, but we booked connecting staterooms, so we will be in 6620 as well as 6622. :)

I've been away for a few weeks spring breaking in Hawaii. It was fabulous.

I think I may be stressing over this too much. I am at a loss as to what to do about the hotels before the stay.

I stress out over this stuff, too. My DH thinks I'm nuts. He just doesn't get that someone makes all this magic happen. :wizard: :lmao:

Hello again everyone! Been off of the boards for a while, getting back into the swing of college academics  We ARE still going on the cruise, and SO excited to see how many people are going on this cruise!!! Also, I realized I never properly introduced our cast of characters: I'm Kristin (will be 21 by the time we're cruising!), DB, Stephen (18), DM, Gretchen, and DD, Alan. /QUOTE]

Hey Flip! I will add this new information to the front page! :thumbsup2

[QUOTE=ksware;40412210]The Wares are going on the cruise

We are Kendra, Jay and Velveth (11). We are all looking forward to celebrating Velveth's adoption and birthday:banana:

Welcome Wares! I will add your information to the front page. I will also add (FISH) next to your name. :thumbsup2

A couple of my good friends have decided to join us for this cruise. They are Kim & Bob and their 2 boys Robert (14) & Dylan (12). I think she wants to join in on the Fish Extender. Has a cut-off date been set?

I will add them to the list! Usually the cut off date is about 2 weeks before the cruise! Do you think that works???????

Hello, the Eckelberrys are cruising to Alaska on the 7th. We just found out about all the FE fun and would like to join.

:yay: Welcome! I will add your info to the front page. Along with a (FISH) which means you are participating! ;)

Happy 40th!!! :cake:party:

Will you be celebrating your actual birthday while on the cruise? I actually already turned 40 (a couple of weeks ago). But nobody said the party had to stop then!! ;)

I just turned 40. I don't plan on stopping the party. ;)

Please take a look and make sure I have all of your information correct!

:fish: Remember: If you have a blue (FISH) after all your information, that means that you indicated you will be taking part in the fish game.

For those of you who would like to join in on the fun of the fish game, please let me know.

:hourglass Someone asked about the cut off date. I believe the cut off date is usually two weeks before the cruise. Please LET ME KNOW what you all think about that.

Also, I'm going to be adding some links with some helpful information to the front page. If anyone has something they would like to add, message it on over to me and I'll put it there.

Thanks for adding my name to the list. Did you do Hawaii with Disney? My girls want this to be our next trip, but I keep hoping the will at a cruise so we can see more of the islands.

Two weeks works for me for the cut off date. Thanks for the links, being in KS I think we will fly out on the 6th.:thumbsup2

We did not do it with Disney. We would have liked to have stayed at their hotel, but it does not open until August. We went to Maui and Hawaii. Two days before our trip I got a call saying our hotel on the Big Island was washed away by the Tsunami. Yikes. I haven't been able to focus much on this trip because of that one! Now I'm ready to get to work on this! :surfweb:

I live in Pittsburgh, so we are definitely flying out on the 6th. We might stay for a day or two after.

Hi everyone,

Okay, so my OCD and anal retentiveness is kicking in about this trip now that our spring break cruise is over. We did the FE exchange on that cruise also. It was a ton of fun...and we got some rockin' gifts. So much fun, we have to do it again. We did notice how many of the Fish Extenders were obviously purchased on Ebay from the same lady. That was fun to see as well as all the very creative homemade ones. Anyway, I was wondering if a spreadsheet or document will be posted breaking down the rooms by deck and breaking out the adults and kids ages and gender for the FE? It made delivering to the rooms totally easy on this last cruise (we also had over 65 people participating- about 40 rooms:scared1:). We needed a spreadsheet to keep that many straight. I was just wondering. I can always make my own doc, just to keep my head straight.
I hope everyone had a great time on their spring vacations if you went on one. We went on the Dream, and decided that we can't wait to get back to a smaller ship after that!!

There are only 14 of us participating in FE so far. :lmao: BUT I can make a spreadsheet and post a link on the front page. It does make it easier. Hopefully we will have some more people join FE. :thumbsup2

We went on the maiden voyage of the Dream in January. I wanted to be back on a smaller ship, too!

Okay, so I wrote about the spreadsheet before I ever even looked at our FE list. Silly me. I can easily keep that amount straight.I was just remembering trying to keep over 65 kids and 35 adult gifts straight in my head from last week's cruise. No need for a spreadsheet:rotfl:

We went on the maiden voyage of the Dream in January. I wanted to be back on a smaller ship, too!

I think the worst crowds were in the terminal waiting to get on...and waiting to register for the kids club. That line stretched all the way back to the escalators.

I've been thinking about the weather and what to pack. It's such a daunting thought, that I keep trying to put it off.

I did order some waterproof/windproof jackets (for the whale-watching and potential rain showers) for the kids from Sierra Trading Post. At least I did SOMETHING. Now, my DH and I will be wearing our camo military issue rainjackets. SO don't laugh when you see us in them, or don't see us since camo blends.:rotfl: ha ha!!

Are you doing any extra days in Vancouver or Seattle before/after the cruise? That's the part of the packing that's going to kill me- the extra.

Is anyone planning on renting or bringing a tux/evening gown for formal night? Please don't tell me we will be the only ones adding that stuff to our suitcases to bring too.:scared1:

I was trying to conserve space with the shoes, so I bought the family waterproof running/trail shoes that will double as our sneakers for the whole trip. Of course, what that really does is just make room for me to bring more shoes of my own. I keep telling myself- only bring 3 pair of shoes. We'll see how that goes.

We will be flying in and out of Seattle for the cruise. We will be using Quick Shuttle between Seattle and Vancouver and I'm trying to decide what time to make the reservation going back to Seattle on June 14th; the options are 9:15am or 10:45am. What do you think? We have late dining so I know our breakfast will be the late seating on the last day.

It will be a first Disney cruise for all four of them- my Mom Trish, Dad Mike, and my 2 DS's Cody- 16 and Ryan- 12.
One question they have is if there are still the same theme nights on an Alaska cruise. Are pirate costumes still a good idea? Don't know if anything about the cruise itself changes aside from the destination.
I will read through the thread and hope to be able to give my folks some helpful tips!

We reserved the 9:15 am shuttle to Seattle. I looked at the times that it arrives in Seattle (we're staying at the Best Western by the Space Needle), and based my decision on that. We wanted to have a little time to see a few things around Seattle before our flight home the next morning.

Well, since we are staying with friends near Seattle until Saturday (time is not a problem) I think we'll go with the 10:45 shuttle. We used to leave near Seattle and look forward to seeing somethings we've been missing, like Mt. Ranier. I will check with Quick Shuttle to see if we can get on the earlier bus if we're ready to go and space permits.

Evette and chernabogfamily - I'm wondering why you chose the Quick Shuttle over Amtrak. We'll be traveling with a 2 year old so I'm worried about taking the Quick Shuttle over the Amtrak. I want to take the Amtrak for what I think I would be more space and the ability to move around a bit. But the Quick Shuttle has more times. The Amtrak only goes early morning or in the evening with a late arrival into Vancouver. :(

We chose Quick Shuttle because of the convenience mostly. I think the train would be great too. As you said there are more times with Quick Shuttle so it works out better for us. We are flying into Seattle late on Sunday, June 5th, the flight doesn't get in until 11:00pm. We'll spend the night at the Holiday Inn Express near the airport and then in the morning take the hotel shuttle back to the airport to catch the 10:30am Quick Shuttle. We are staying at the Pan Pacific in Vancouver and the Quick Shuttle will take us right there. When we leave the cruise ship I have us reserved on the 10:45am Quick Shuttle that will take us back to the Seattle airport where we will rent a car since we are staying for a few days in the area with friends. One nice thing I found out is that Quick Shuttle offers a Travel Industry discount so my husband was able to use it since he's a reservations agent for an airline.

We chose Quick Shuttle just for convenience sake. I like that it will pick us up right at the port and drop us off in front of the Best Western in downtown Seattle. I had read a couple of reports regarding Amtrak about the train getting delayed for a couple of hours, and I didn't want to risk that (since our son REALLY wants to go up in the Space Needle after we get into town). The departure & arrival time for the shuttle vs Amtrak was my deciding factor. I like the early afternoon arrival into Seattle.
We're flying directly into Vancouver a couple of days before the cruise and seeing some sights, so I will only be experiencing it one-way. Let me know what you ultimately choose. We all have different plans for pre/post cruise and I love hearing everyone's thoughts and plans.

We are from Ottawa, so we aren't that far from you. What airport will you be flying out of? We're flying out of Kansas City on the 6th. We let Disney book our air this time around, and I was very happy with what we got!:goodvibes

I can't believe how close this cruise is! We did the Dream in February and loved it, but Alaska has been a dream of my husband's for years. We're getting very anxious!!!

We have been assigned cabin 7009, although the state of our trip is kinda up in the air at the moment I'm going through an interview process and the training starts on the 30th of May :upsidedow fingers crossed everything works out and I will still be on the cruise, someone may be going in my place :sad1:

It would be a bummer to not have you on the cruise. On the other hand, good jobs can be hard to find nowadays. Hope the interviews work out and I wish you the best of luck!

Aww Hope you can make it!!! Sometimes we have to have priorities.

Hi there -

My family will be on this one as well, Me, a disneyphile ever since my parents took me to Disneyland back when Mr. Disney was still alive (I still remember where I was the first time I saw the fireworks - I was on the motorboats in Fantasyland with my mom), my DW, DSS (StepSon), and because he's graduating from High School we're also bring two newbies with us, two Female Friends of his. So I'm the one who will be up late at night waiting for him to get back to the stateroom at a reasonable hour.....

I have added some new info to the first page:

A spreadsheet of the DIS board members on this cruise, brought to you by JARUDINSKI (Thank You Thank You). :worship:

Fish Extender cut off date is May 15. Anyone who would like to join after that date may not get a fish gift from every participant. I am going to PM everyone who has signed up for FE to make sure that they are "still in". If you could just reply "I'm still in", that would be great. :fish:

Has anyone seen or made a packing list for the Alaska sailing? I have one that I use for our normal Disney cruises, but I have a feeling this one will be a lot different. I just want to make sure I don't forget something essential, and I'm hoping there will be some trip reports coming up after next week to help guide us all as far as weather and what to expect.:goodvibes

OOOOOOkay! I think I have everyone on the first page. ::yes::

Please take a look and make sure I have all of your information correct!

:fish: Remember: If you have a blue (FISH) after all your information, that means that you indicated you will be taking part in the fish game.

For those of you who would like to join in on the fun of the fish game, please let me know.

:hourglass Someone asked about the cut off date. I believe the cut off date is usually two weeks before the cruise. Please LET ME KNOW what you all think about that.

Also, I'm going to be adding some links with some helpful information to the front page. If anyone has something they would like to add, message it on over to me and I'll put it there.

Okay, I'll bite. What is the fish exchange?

Lucky you! I actually had to call Disney today because we got our "you have booked this cruise" letter and discovered that one of our guests was misgendered. She has an unusual first name - Darrian (she goes by Dee), and not having asked gender during the reservatioin process, she was labelled a he!
No problem, as our docs hadn't been printed yet.
You got Docs! I remember our last cruise, Transatlantic two years ago, when we were getting ready to go to the airport about a ten days before the cruise and still did not have docs. I was on the phone with Disney when there was a knock at my door....The docs!. So I can feel fairly certain that I won't have that anxiety this time!

Welcome!:goodvibes We booked our air with Disney, and it wasn't bad. We have always booked air on our own, but I was too scared for this cruise. We booked the day they released the dates, and I have watched airfare from Kansas City to Vancouver ever since. I never saw it much cheaper than what we got it for thru Disney. Not sure it would still be at the same price, but if it is, it isn't too bad. Hope you have good luck!

Welcome Aboard

Okay, I'll bite. What is the fish exchange?
Fish Exchange is where you anonymously (or not) exchange small gifts (examples: candy, gum, trinkets from your state, magnets, bookmarks, many other ideas) with other staterooms on your cruise. I'm sure others can explain it much better than I. Here is a link: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607&highlight=fish+extender+instructions
Hi - we booked the late seating. Anyone else?

Here is a better link to what the FE (fish extender) is all about. Kind of like secret santa...and a lot of fun for not only the kids, but adults too. We got mini bottles of rum and homemade keychains and necklaces on our last cruise.

Hope this helps explain better than I can.

Thanks for the welcome, I bought all my supplies to make my FE. I;)t might have cost the same to buy it, but this way I can have have the memory of making it with my daughter.
Okay so now I am trying to keep all the fish participants straight, is there a trick to it? I would love some suggestions.

We went out as a family to the crafts store to get FE supplies. I think I could've purchased one online for cheaper but this way we'll have memories doing this as a family. :goodvibes

We've always done late seating before. But this will be our first experience with main seating. We'll see what we think of that.

We had late setting on our last cruise in 2008. That was pre-child. Now with our daughter (2 yrs) we thought/hoped first seating will work best for us.

We have Amtrak booked from Seattle to Vancouver. Now we just need to book Vancouver to Seattle post-cruse. We'll probably take Quick Shuttle. But then I saw something about visiting Victoria then taking the Victoria Clipper back to Seattle (I think that's what I read on another thread).

You should be able to find something at one of the ports...or maybe while in Vancouver. We made sure to get waterproof hiking boots and waterproof/windproof jackets because it rains a lot in Ketchikan (and we're also going to Seattle before and after the cruise). I didn't have a good rain jacket so I used this trip to change that.

Thank you for the advice. I'm hoping to do a little bit of shopping before we leave. I'm a runner, so I have a waterproof/windproof jacket, but the rest of my family will need one. I'm hoping Dick's Sporting Goods will have them on sale since summer is quickly approaching.:goodvibes Do you think we'll really need the waterproof hiking boots? This is all new territory for us. I'm used to packing for the beach, so we will likely freeze to death while on this trip.:rotfl:

Haha...I'm with you on the clothes packing! At first, I was thinking summer beach weather and then i went ooohhhh DANG!! I'm saying yes to waterproof hiking boots only because we are planning for active excursions with multiple chances for wet, soggy weather. I'm not looking forward to wet feet. Also I'm thinking of these shoes as investments and plan to use them in the future. You could get some waterproofing spray for existing shoes you have. Cheaper option. I'm unsure how well it will work. Maybe others have tried this option and can chime in.

We've had good success with REI and LL Bean finding good prices. Also think layers. In case it warms up you can peal off layers...or add more layers if it gets colder.

I'll try and post my packing list later.

I am about to go crazy. I am in TN and we lost power in the storms last Wednesday. We did finally get power back Sunday night but no cable, internet or phone. The place I work has blocked Disboards so I cannot check out what is going on from work either. I finally decided to use my phone. I can read and post but this sure is a little screen and keyboard to work with. At least it is better than nothing.

Looks like there has been quite a bit of activity in our group the last few days. Guess everyone is getting excited. I know I am. We got our cruise documents this weekend. Glad to see that other people did too.

Hope everyone has a great day and that I have internet when I get home tonight.

Maybe this was talked about earlier but in case it wasn't, here goes - I just booked the White Pass and Yukon Railroad 12:45 departure through the railroad company and not the cruise line. With Disney it is $122/person. Through the railroad it is $112 and kids 12 and under are half price. They are a 10 minute walk from the ship so no transportation is needed. The representative also mentioned doing the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park first which is free.
