Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Change your clocks and go, go, go!

I'll start it off I guess... I had a nice run today, my first one since I hurt my back. A two/three week break is not what I needed, but it's okay, I'm still going! The weather was fantastic today, and Jon (fiance) and I even decided to give a trail we always pass a try. Aside from maneuvering over rocks and roots, trail running is pretty fun! Plus, it kind of broke up the road-running a little bit. And the best part - my back felt great! Yay!

How's everyone else doing?

Hi all! I did 8 miles yesterday. I wore my WISH shirt for the first time too! I'll be wearing my TNT shirt for the Race in January, but I'll have my WISH stuff to wear to the meet and for the other races I'm not in to cheer on everyone.

I felt really good and I was able to maintain my pace for the entire 8 miles. I did go home and nap for about an hour after the run and then I was out aroung 10:30 last night but woke up in time to see the Yankees win!

Hi all,

Ran 13 yesterday which punished me in new and wonderful ways! I decided (on DH suggestion) to run out at a local park (Kensington, Carrie & Diane) It's not hilly, but it rolls and I run flat most of the time. I finished with more leg soreness than I ever have (usually none). I think my IT band is whispering (I am not listening), the tops of my feet-something to do with tendons & big toes perhaps?- were both hurting and I have sever chafing in a spot where I put on Body Glide!

So I got it done, but today feel a little unhappy. Will try to shake it off and hope it doesn't happen again.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. For the first time, we ran out of candy on Halloween! Which meant we had at least 225 kids-definitely a record. Last year we had around 150 or so, so I figured we'd be set. Well, at least there isn't a stash of candy to eat (boo, hiss--I plan for that!)

Time to go to the gym--going to try a Weights+Pilates class.

timmac - Great race report. Thanks for posting it.

I ran five miles Saturday. Every new distance is a personal record. I started running last January and have been breaking new, personal ground ever since.

I was supposed to run 10 miles yesterday and couldn't do it. The Indy Monumental half marathon is on Saturday and I have serious concerns about finishing. I've only trained to 8 miles and I have been able to run much because of the neverending illness that I just cannot shake! I have a low grade fever (off and on), congestion, sore throat, sometimes a cough, and fatigue. I am now starting my 5th week of this and I just don't understand what is going on here. This has to be more than just a cold, but I don't know what it is or what I can do to magically heal myself by Saturday.

8 miles in plenty to finish a half marathon. I too had a problem with being sick leading up to the Baltimore Running Festival last year. I didn't have my best time ever for a half marathon, but with only 1 8 mile training run under my belt I was able to finish the race. However reading that this has been going on and off for 5 weeks I do feel compelled to ask if you have been to the doctor? Sounds like there is something more serious under it all like maybe a sinus infection?

I did go in several weeks ago and was told it's just a virus. As a frequent sufferer of sinus infections, that was also my first thought. But, I'm not having the beautiful multi-colored mucus (sorry, tmi, i know) that I usually get with an infection.

Thanks for the encouraging words about finishing on Saturday. I've never been this undertrained for an event!

Hey all! Did a 3 miler this morning - it's nice to have sunshine again in the morning if only for a few more weeks. Will do some speedwork tomorrow afternoon at the track it may be dark by the time I get there after work.

disluvr - I've done a 1/2 marathon with my LR being 8 miles. So it's definitely doable! pixiedust: for your infection - I hope you feel better soon!

I've managed to make it to my karate classes over the past few weeks. I took approximately 1.5 years off and love being back. I'm amazed that I haven't lost too much of my technique either. Before leaving classes, I used to compete with the school and always did lots of extra training for that. I think the extra training really drilled in the techniques. I hope I'm able to finally get my black belt in the next year or so.

It's HILLY. Accept it Maura! It's HILLY. I have photo proof ...

The 1st one is looking should be looking forward with a path going to the left and if you look up from that path there are people walking. It is a nice looong uphill. UP Maura! HILL! LOL Hope everything is feeling better :) Great job on running that, I walked it and was still quite tired.

Hi All -
I was a major slacker in the month of October and I am determined to do better with a new start in November. I started Week 3 of the C25K program and I am slightly ashamed to admit that running 3 minutes straight is hard for me! I have always been a walker - but a really fast and good walker. I have completed a half marathon walking, but running 3 minutes kicks my butt. I guess I expected it to be more like walking, I expected that if I was able to walk 5mph that running 5.5 wouldn't be that much harder. HA! :rotfl2: I was so wrong! But I am going to stick to it because I love a challenge. I am hoping for some inspiration from all the real runners on this board. Someday I hope to be one of you :worship:

Manda - I understand wanting th challenge. DH and I went from zero to full marathon in 2005-6. We used MfM's walk/run the half program fro 8 weeks. Took us from w4/r1 to w3/r2, I think. Then, we used the first 8 weeks of teh r/w program to go from w3/ru to rw1/r4. Believe me, every time we added a minute, we felt it. From tehre, we did teh run the full program and made it. It's not easy, though, adn every one I've known has said they are faster if they leave some ewalk in. I know some have done r9/w1 just to have a break ot look forward to. Do what you can,. but if you find runnig's not for you, there's absoplutely no shame in that either.:goodvibes

Carrie & Diane I guess it's all relative. When I think of hills, I think of the one on the street where I grew up (which I'll probably have to run on Thanksgiving to get my miles in!) Plus I think of our WISH'ers in NC and GA and it seems like they have real hills. Anyway, I feel fine today although my feet/toes are still not 100%. This weekend for 14 I might try the Paint Creek Trail in Rochester--although out-and-backs are not entirely my cup of tea.

Manda I started running last year and also had a plan that used walk/run. It was challenging at first, even though I could probably run two miles to start. Just remember--this is what training is for. Don't think too far ahead and don't freak out if you have crummy workouts. It happens to everyone, as do injuries and other LTO's that cause training to occasionally go south. With the right attitude (and this is 50% a mental game) you'll do great.

Carrie,

I agree that Kensington is hilly. There aren't too many hills in Michigan. I am convinced that most of the hills in Michigan are located in Kensington! Keep up with that ice and Advil. I hope the massage does wonders for you. I have been doing the ice and Advil too. I thought I had shin splints, but I think it is actually something worse. Only time and x-rays will tell.

I stuck with my exercise goal for yesterday. It was a small goal of half an hour, but I did it. I just walked yesterday - trying to only run every other day for now - but I cranked up the incline and had a good time. It still made me pretty tired.

Susan: PD for your shins. Hopefully it isn't anything serious. Ice and Advil are all of our friends.

Hi everyone! I did a 30-ish minute tempo run this morning. It was nice and cool but I think I'm going to have to replace my cap with a more wintery hat so I can keep my ears warm.

Manda - Don't feel bad... when I first started running a year ago, I could barely run 2 minutes without taking a 5 minute break in between.

Maura - pixiedust: for all the bumps and ouchies! A trainer I worked out with a couple of weeks ago showed me a really great stretch for the IT band. Basically, you do a walking lunge. As you're coming back up, before you go into the next lunge, grab the foot that was at the back, cross it in front of your body, hold it for a few seconds and then that leg will go in front for the next lunge. Alternatively, I guess you could just stand on one leg, hold on to the other foot, cross that leg in front of the other and stretch your IT band that way but I like to incorporate the lunges as part of my warmup.

Have a great day everyone!

Susan - :flower3:Didn't meant ot leave you out. :sad2: Well, we have a decent amount o fhills over here (not on my course, but a decent amount in the area). Also, Bishop, where I trainined fo cross in HS, has some nasty hills too, but they are unpaved trails (or were). So, they aren't all at Kensingotn, jsut maybe 90%. :rotfl:

Just remember--this is what training is for. Don't think too far ahead and don't freak out if you have crummy workouts. It happens to everyone, as do injuries and other LTO's that cause training to occasionally go south. With the right attitude (and this is 50% a mental game) you'll do great.

Hello....hello? Where is everyone?

I charted unexplored territory today with a 14 mile run...well, actually it ended up being ~ 14.4 since DH's directions were slightly off. Anyway, it's the longest I've ever run. Was I tired when I was done! I don't know if I could have gone another mile or not. Hip flexors were definetely working, but nothing was really sore or bothering me. It was just a long run!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. When I was done running, the temp reigstered 68! Amazing for a November in Michigan.

Vicky, I just saw your post from last month. I guess I'm ready for Honolulu. Who knows, but I should be good to go. Chester and Tracy from Florida will be here, following their Las Vegas marathon the weekend before. Marcia won't make it for the second year in a row.

Hi all. I haven't been on the monthly thread but I've been keeping up on the race reports and think everyone has done great.

After taking a little over a week off after the full I have done a couple of runs and the legs are 100%. My stomach has been a bit queezy on both runs but nothing too terrible. Looking forward to getting the miles back up and keeping them up over the winter so I don't have my normal slow spring start. I am doing the National half marathon in March so at least I have a later winter/early spring half to train for.

Hope everyone's bumps. bruises, aches, and viral infections are all healed up.

Hi All - what a crazy week! I keep waiting for things to slow down, but maybe I just need to speed up to keep up with them :)

I started week 4 of C25K yesterday - that is running 5 minutes (in a row!) I finished it and felt pretty good after. Knees and legs are a little sore today, but I am looking forward to running again tomorrow.

Jeff - you are crazy! 20 miles, I can't even wrap my mind around that! So impressed.

Solar - we are about at the same place in C25K - good luck with W4D1 on Tuesday, let me know how it goes.

The only conclusion I can come to is that I am not getting enough water. Since I haven't been doing the long runs I haven't been loading up on as much water throughout the day so in the evening when I run I might just be a bit dehydrated.

I'm heading to the gym and than back out on the road again tonight to take advantage of the little warm spell we have going on. Hopefully I've had enough of the H2O today.

Welcome to all the new folks - mandac, solar, DisneyBride'03! Glad to have you join us. :cool1:

Frank- I've been queasy after the last several half-marathons I've done and I don't know why. I try to get enough water and electrolytes into my system along the course and the days before but I always feel terrible for about 30 minutes after I finish. I can't figure it out. :confused3 Hope you are able to get your system turned around.

Maura - congrats on the 14-miler. When I trained for the marathon 2 years ago, I wondered how in the world would I be able to complete it. For my first 14-miler, I swore I wouldn't be able to do more than that. Then, miracously, I did a 16-miler two weeks later. Then an 18-miler a few weeks later, and so on. Each time I wondered how I could do more. But I did. Keep up the good work!

mandac - sounds like you are doing well with your C25K. Keep up the good work! :thumbsup2

DisneyBride - congrats on signing up for the Wine and Dine race and the 5K next month. Having a carrot dangling in front of you is a good way to keep up the training. :cool2:

solar - congrats on staying on track for your C25K training. I've enjoyed reading about your progress. Keep up the good work.

Well, I think I may have figured out my stomach problem. It looks like I wasn't allowing enough time between my after work snack and the run. That whole getting dark so early must have thrown me off.

I did the exact same 5.46 mile loop tonight as last night with the weather the exact same (56 degrees and 74% hum) and managed to knock my 39:59 (7:19 pace) down to 36:49 (6:44 pace). It was one of my best training runs ever, mostly because I didn't do my normal mid run daydreaming and ran it like I was being chased.

Not a whole lot feels better than a run like tonights!

Jeanne - Loved your report. Congrats!

Susie - How are you? Hope your training is going well.

AFM- been a bit of a slacker since the Maui half. Been doing more cross training than anything. Did go out and finish 5 miles yesterday. Legs a little sore today. My one boss is a runner. I can't keep up with her, she's a little more speedy than I am. However, we do walk the stairs together almost every day. We're up to 12 flights so far. I'm trying to talk her into doing a 1/2. Tri's have bee a big wake up call for us racing apart. Good for us, though, adn not like you can be together really on a siwm or bike.

DId 60 min last night. Was ok after teh rust came off my legs.. Beautiful running weather. Did alittle ebtter than expected. Hip is not thrilled today, though. Not, awful, but I think I will do a pool run Thursday and hope i'm ok for Saturday. That's jsut 8, though. I really need to be better for teh 16 the following week. Starting to worry a bit now. :guilty: Trying to take my own advice, though. It's better to be healed and undertrained than injured come race day. (Feel free to remind me of this if healing does not come soon)

Hi, all. Technically, I'm not new here, because about a year back I had grand plans to run the half. Then I totally lost my groove and bombed. I had already purchased the plane ticket, and didn't want to waste it, so decided I was going to do a solo trip instead. So while I'm on the boards checking out my options, I come across all the marathon talk and got myself totally psyched up! So I went ahead and purchased the resort/ticket package and searched a bunch of 8-week training programs and last night I hit the Y. First time in months I've been there. My pace was about 18 min., so I know I need to whittle it down, but I figure DLF -> DNF -> DNS.

I was going to point you here as well!! (really I'm not stalking you!!)

Yes, as long as you commit to the training now - and you are at 18 min miles - you will finish the Donald!! YOU WILL!! (that's about the pace I was at in '08)

I've actually stayed on course training for at least the last 3 weeks!!

Today I did 3m iles in 50 min!! Sunday I got my first long run in - 9 miles - it took me almost 3 hours!! That's a long time to be "out there" but I did it... and I promise myself I'm going to do it again!! Maybe this coming Sunday!!

WOOHOO :woohoo: One complete week DONE!! :cool1:

That's what its all about... one step at a time!

and I think I did those 9 miles by accident! Seriously - I parked the car at a park in our county that the Scouts use - and I saw that the circle was 1.7 miles, and the route I drove I thought was about 3 miles - but then I got lost in the woods :rotfl2: and I was so determined to get to the 3 mile marker (I kept hoping I'd see my dh - he was running 17 serious miles!!)

so I got down to the 3 mile marker (that was tough, I kept talking myself into quitting - but I kept thinking of the people on my trip report - and I just didnt want to post I quit before reaching that mile marker -so my "imaginary" cyber friends kept me going!!) and once I got down there, I realized I couldnt quit - I had to wog all the way back!! :faint:

There are a lot of people here that do the TM work - and that's it - and they complete the Half!!

IF it all possible to go outside and walk a bit - on a weekend or something - I would recommend it, just because it is different than a TM - but its completely NOT necessary - its much more needed to be consistent, to get a consistent time - and distance... and slowly build!!

Dead Last Finish is greater than Did Not Finish which is SO MUCH GREATER than Did not start!!

YOU have the courage to start!! :goodvibes

Hi all. I thought that I'd join the monthly thread since it has been pointed out to me that I am part of the WISH team now. I've been lurking on here for awhile and you guys have been a great motivation and inspiration for me!

mandac - congrats! on starting week 4 of the C25k program. That is how I began running. What a great feeling to say that you ran an entire 5 minutes!

Frank - any reason that you were running as if you were being chased? That made me laugh. I'm glad that you figured out your stomach problem and had a good run.

Sandy, Disneybride, Disney Mommy - I think that we're all stalking each other! :lmao: I was scrolling down the posts on here and suddenly it was deja vous!

AFM: I did 13 miles last Saturday and am having some tenderness in one knee and my feet since that run. Nothing major but I'm taking it easy today. I did a 4 mile run last night that was one of my better runs in a while. I think that it was because I left the watch in the car. I wasn't feeling too well yesterday and kept trying to talk myself out of the run. In order to convince myself to run I decided to not push the time/pace. I think that my pace was around usual but I was able to relax more during the run. Tomorrow night I have 6 miles planned. It's in the 70's temp wise right now. I'm ready for it to cool down more but considering that it was in the 100's when I began my training, this is nice.

Welcome to all the newbies on the board. Nice to hear from others who are making the journey to craziness...I mean, the marathon in January.

Dolce I do most of my long runs without a watch. As you've noted, it takes pressure off having to meet/failing to meet a certain pace. And when you get into the uncharted waters of higher distances, like I am doing now with my marathon plan, it's enough to know you can make it through that mileage without the added pressure of having to maintain a certain pace. (Of ocurse, I do sorta glance before I stop and start. Plus there is midweek speedwork--so I figure I'll improve my pace anyway)

I should really go so I can make Pilates.......

Maura - Congratulations on the 14 miles! Those "new" distances are always amazing. It's still fun to experience them with WISHers for the first time! I have a hard time realizing that you're just doing these distances - you've come so far I feel like you've already done the full, if not the Goofy!

Jeff - Go ahead and rub it in!

DisneyBride - Welcome! Great job on your 4 miles. We were all there at some point, even those like Jeff who're doing 20 on a regular basis. I still remember clearly when 4 miles seemed huge and the idea of 20 (or 26) seemed impossible. I knew I'd never, ever run a full marathon. Saturday I'm attempting my second.

Frank - I much prefer Daylight Savings Time. This whole getting dark at 5:30 thing really interferes with my running! Even though I get off work at 4:00, it's still really hard to get home and still get in any kind of distance before it's completely dark.

Terri - Congrats on the 2 pounds! I seem to be going the other way, further complicated by the fact that I bought a new scale that appears to be more in line with my doctor's office and unfortunately a whopping 7 pounds heavier than my old scale. :scared1:

Carrie - I never thought DH and I could run together, even fought it with a vengeance. Then we tried it. I'm running so much better, and faster! I really miss it when we don't get to run together now. We'll never actually run the races together, since his race pace is 8:00-9:00/mile and mine is 11:00-12:00/mile, but I'm definitely seeing improvement in my times!

Jeanne - 'Nuff said. You're a marathon machine! :worship: (There are still openings for the Disney full...) You certainly can't claim that you aren't trained! :rotfl2:

Did 10 miles Saturday, then 3.8 last night on the treadmill. DH ran outside, but it was raining and I played the wimp card. I'm not taking any chances on getting sick before the Richmond marathon on Saturday, and the TM seemed like a nice safe place to run instead of outside in the cold dark rain! I may try to get in 2-3 easy miles tomorrow night, but I'll be busy packing and they may get bumped from the schedule. Either I'm ready now or I'm not!

Hi everyone! I got in a 10 mile training walk/run yesterday. I'm maintaining a 15 mpm pace still. My goal during my shorter weekday runs is to increase my pace and maybe get down to a 14:30 pace by race day.

I do find that my legs don't even warm up for the first two miles, especially my shins which leads to my feet feeling like (or actually) they're flopping around and slapping the ground. That leads me to believe that I am going to need a 1-2 mile warm up before starting the race. At least it is a long walk to the starting line!

Just checking in ... I had a couple of great (fast) runs earlier this month and then a couple of stonkers last week. But I guess that's way training goes - not every run/workout can be the greatest. Did my 7 miler today - in shorts! Never would have thought that possible for November but I'll take it :) Went slowly because my knee was pinching a little - I think from a tight IT band. I ran the whole thing but only because I was going slowly. I figured if I was not going to get a good time, I might as well pay attention to my form - make sure I was running straight and not slouching, etc.

Maura - I like your idea of running without a watch.

Jackie - How did Richmond go for you?

Terri - That's a lot of steps! Wow!

Jeff - I plan to make it out for the Honolulu marathon one of these years! It's so close to Disney though so it's a tough choice.

Carrie - How's your hip doing?

That's all for now! Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Vicky, Honolulu is not too close to Disney. It's just a 26.2 training run for Goofy. You have one month in between to keep training.

If you want to fly out on the 12th, I have TWO extra bibs that are not going to be used this year by friends. One injured, one can't take the time off.

If and when you know which year, email me by May 1st. I can get you the early entry rate for locals (using my address). $30 this year. Sounds cheap right? Well it used to be $20. And when I did my very first marathon in 1995, it cost me a whopping $2!

As for me, I got in 16 1/4 easy miles this morning.

Vicky (and all) - Finished the Richmond marathon yesterday in 5:53:45. My goal was 6:00, so I'm very happy. I'm also very sore today! I'm going to attempt a race report on the race report thread. The weather in Richmond when we left today was gorgeous - wouldn't you know. Friday and Saturday, not so good.

Jeff - Honolulu is a bargain!

Megan - The more I run, the longer it seems to take to warm up. The other night I ran 3.8 miles on the TM, and I was almost through 3 before I really felt good. Makes 5K runs hardly worth the time! Fortunately during the marathon Saturday it didn't seem to take as long as it does during training runs. I'm hoping for the same in January.

Solar - Great job on C25K. I started that last year when I was recovering from IT band injuries, but never made it through. I still can't run a 5K from start to finish...:confused3

Frank - any reason that you were running as if you were being chased? That made me laugh. I'm glad that you figured out your stomach problem and had a good run.

No reason in particular. I tend to let my mind wander a lot when I run. Most of the time that is fine because part of the fun of running, at least for me, is that free time to just ponder stuff. When I want to do a fast pace though I have to keep my mind on running and the way I do it is imagine I am leading the race by 100m and have to keep the guy behind me. Kind of strange but it works.

Jeff - Honolulu is not a cheap marathon, especially once you factor in the cost of getting and staying there. I'm sure it is COMPLETELY worth it though.

I just got back from an easy 7.9 and even though it is late I'm going to have a noodle bowl then shower and bed.

Hi, folks. The prodigal WISHer returns. Lots of LTO and training worries, all that will fall by the wayside come January. :lmao: I've managed to keep up with the LRs, barely, although I keep getting slower and slower with these infernal Goofy b2bs. Grumble, grumble.

A few hellos!

Maura: Kensington is hilly. Diane, Susan, and Carrie have said it, and the three of us have experienced it, so I'm just sayin'. Big congrats to DD and her X-Country Team!

Megan: Had no idea you practiced karate, let alone are so close to black belt. Woo hoo!

Manda & Solar: You're doing great with C25K. It does get easier!

Liz:  and know exactly how you feel.

Frank: You've had such success this year in meeting your goals! Glad you figured out what was making you queasy.

Sandy: I'm always doing accidental miles. No sense of direction and too much pride. I keep telling myself it's good for the training. :lmao:

Dolce: What Sandy said about the nametag.

Vicky: How's the IT band? Mine's been bothering me a bit, not stretching/XT enough.

Aloha Jeff: Consistent training, as always, my friend. Ditto what Jackie said--Honolulu is a bargain for locals. I definitely need to relocate (gee, can you tell it's chilly here today).

Carrie:  for the hip, for the problem with the Alert Shirts, etc. You're one tough warrior! ;)

Hi to everyone I missed: Ronda, Racy Tracy, Liz, Kim, LeeshieBean, Timmac, Dislvr74, Kate, Diane, Susan, Jeanne, DisneyBride, Susie, Terri, DisneyMommy, Jackie, Dale, Kirstie, and anyone else!

As for me: Like I said, struggling with LTO and time. Too much freelance work for not enough cash, the Three Rivers Film Festival is going on (for Terry Gilliam fans, see The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus when it comes out), etc. There might be a light at the end of the tunnel there, with some free time opening up. Think I'll just fill that up with this week's b2b. :rotfl2:

Looking forward to staying caught up with everyone (she says hopefully). :thumbsup2

Maura - Oh, yeah, run away because you know you'll be in trouble. After struggling through 16 %^&%*% miles in Kensington and Island Lake Sunday, with "It's not really hilly" goign through my head, I was gonna come find, you. ;) ;) ;) ;)

Yup, I struggled through 16 miles for you-know-where Sunday. They are done. About all I can say. I did haev otehr issues too that did not help. Discovered my shoes are too narrow, even after going extra wide thelast time. Emergency shopping last night. Wish the local store wasn't doign so poorly adn unable ot get shoes. :sad2: Glad we have a good alternativev, jsut wish it was closer. Oh well. Hope to test the new shoes otnight.

I wish I would have known sooner. There is a pretty nice trail race going on Sunday in Lithia Springs, just east of Tampa. I ran the Marathon there in 2006. Here is a link:

http://www.tamparaces.com/X-Country/index.htm

Thanks for the info. I looked at that race and contemplated it just about every day for weeks but I had running around to do for the wedding so it just wouldn't have worked out. I made it down to Old Hyde Park though and did grabbed some espresso and walked around the neighborhood for a while so at least I got some walking in.

Went out and did just under 7 today. All ready for the 5 miler on Thanksgiving and trying to figure out when I can get the other 1.2 in. Probably after I let all the food settle from grandma's.

Hey everyone! Almost done with November - January will be here before we know it. Got in some good miles this month. Some of them slower than I would have liked but still got 'em in :) I also did a 10K last weekend and PB'ed! Took 2 minutes off my 10K from October. Yay!

Went out for a slow 4 miler last night - I was running on the road with my blinky light and still almost got mowed over by someone not paying attention. I guess the situation is somewhat ironic. The guy was driving while on his cell phone so while he wasn't paying attention to what was going on, he wasn't really going fast either.

Heading into the gym tonight for some speedwork. Not really liking the TM much this year but since it's dark by the time I leave work, I don't have much of a choice!

Carrie - WTG on the 16 miler! What kind of shoes did you end up getting?

Maura - Safe travels!

Liz - Congrats on your tower climb! Sounds like quite the challenge!

Hope everyone's training is going well! Happy Thanksgiving :)

This thread has ground to a halt this month. Went out and did just under 6 today. I felt a little dehydrated but the weather was pushing 60 and there was no way I would pass up what might be one of the last shorts only runs of the year.

Hi Wishers! I had a short 6 miles today in Valley Green. It was so nice since the other times I've been there it has been rainy. Aaannd... I ran into a WISHer! Kira was out there for her run! Thanks to my new visor (thanks Tracy!) she was able to spot me!

Last day of the month....anyone up for a little Cyber Monday shopping?

I had a rather off 12 miler yeseterday--was supposed to be 13, but couldn't bear the thought of adding on 1 mile loop. Was sore and tired afterwards, which is not normal for me. I think I'll go swim today for what I hope is a little bit of active rest.

Also think I'll go buy new shoes-I'm due anyway, so maybe that was a contributing factor.

Hope everyone is training well.

Maura - I bought new shoes Saturday. Wasn't exactly due, but I couldn't pass it up. One of our local running stores has a deal for our Galloway team where he gives us $10 for every 50 miles we run during the season. Then he gave us 26.2% off on Saturday, so after I cashed in $40 worth of miles (the max he allowed at one time), I paid $39 for a new pair! Now I have to break in two pairs before January...

Did 5 miles on Thursday at a local Turkey Trot (PR'd the course, but not the distance), then ran 10 on Saturday. Am scheduled to hit the track tonight with DH for speedwork. Victory Junction Half is 2 weeks away, but discussed maybe doing it as R1/W1 with a couple of friends because of the hills. One of my team leaders is really worried about me doing it so close to Goofy, but I promised her I'm only doing it as a training run. I did NOT tell her I was considering running on Saturday prior to the race to make it a B2B!

Vicky - The new shoes are FOundations. Never heard of tehm, but they have a wider nid sole adn toe box, so help that a lot. They also seem to be alittle less squishy. DOn't love that , but I think that helps my orthdics work better.

Frank - Yes, we must get the miles in while the weather's good. WHile it's supposed to dive this week, I still think it shoudl eb our best ever conditions for 18.

Megan - Woo hoo! An unexpected WISH meet. how fun!!!

Maura - Hope teh swim adn new shoes work wonders!

Jackie - Please don't push those legs too ahrd. A B2B with the second being a race is tough. Even when you tell yourself the race is a trainign run, your body adn mind don't always listen when teh adrenaline gets going.

OK, did my 8 at non-hilly Kensington Thursday. ;) Here's the elevations of the route. The loop is really 8.5, but we parked near the top of the worst hill, so we coudl walk it when 8 were done. Of course, teh progream to get thsi is on my new DROID and I forgot to turn it off, so ignore wat's after the 8.5 and my speed/ :p

Any more debate on hlliness? (Maura - You kow, the fact you don't consider it hilly means you are super woman, right? I'm just jealous)

Wish we had realized that 8 at my parents Thursday meant 24 miles on that course from you-know-where in 4 days. not our brightest move. After shoping all day Friday on those itred legs, Saturday's 45 min still seemed hard. Much better today and my legfs will eb happy to be on our home course again.

Wow! End of another month - hard to believe it's almost December. I was out running on the weekend. Did an 8 miler and a 2 miler. Also got a massage in :) The running was so-so, I think I was still recovering from a tough gym/weights workout last Thursday. Felt good mentally but the speed wasn't there. Oh well.

Maura - I may buy a jacket if I see a good deal. I'm going to register for a 30K at the end of March. Which means I have to train in Jan/Feb (ugh!). Hopefully there are some good deals out there.

Carrie - I haven't heard of those shoes either. Maybe the lack of squishiness will take some getting use to.

Jackie - Congrats on the PR!

mla1977 - Very cool that you ran into another WISHer :)

Frank - Hope the warm weather holds out for you. Last weekend, I ran in shorts. I think that was the last weekend this year.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

I've been reading along but not sure if I've even posted this month and the month is over today! Where did that go?

Hubby and I did our 7 miles yesterday. We are walking 3 running 1 (minutes, not miles, lol). And keeping a decent pace, so we won't get swept and will have time for photos. This is our first Disney race and we want to enjoy it, not go out for a PR! Our dd, did the Philly 1/2 the week before and wow, was I impressed. Her first 'official' 1/2 and she did 2:07! How do we go about 'updating' her time for Disney so she can run with her pace group?

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Four day weekends go way to fast. Just over five weeks til we head to Disney!!! Cannot wait!

Okay, I give. My body apparently wants me to get a message. I went to the track tonight with DH for what was supposed to be a 4-5 mile run including 4 800-meter laps at race pace. We started out on the warmup run, and my calves immediately cramped. No matter what I did, they wouldn't let up. I was determined to get at least 3 miles in, even if I had to walk, so I tried a R1/W1. At the end of 2 miles, my ankle hurt, my shins ached, and I was limping. I figured 2 miles was enough and called it a night. I think my body heard me thinking about doing B2B runs the weekend of the Victory Junction half and decided to give an opinion! :lmao: I guess I need to scale back my training plans a little...

Got in some good steps this weekend. Must have been the virtual turkey trot to start things off for me. Did absolutely nothing today. (due to outpatient endoscopy) Oh wait, I did do something. I did my Monday cyber shopping. DH's Garmin finally failed, he had my old one. So we're doing it again. I get the new and he gets the hand-me-down. Isn't life wonderful!
