Christmas Stocking thread~ Complete!! Thanks everyone!

Hi ladies! :santa:

It's time for the Christmas stocking exchange!!

Some of you are already familiar with the exchanges. If you are NOT, please take a moment to scan the steps below as it should help answer any questions you may have.

1. It's entirely voluntary. Just a fun thing for those interested.
2. For each exchange there is a minimum $$$ amount that you MUST spend, which does NOT include shipping or any "extras" should you choose to send them.
3. Once sign ups are complete each person who signed up will receive the name of a person to exchange with. You will not be sending to the same person you receive from.
4. Go shopping for items to send that fall within the exchange theme, mail it out by the mail by date, and then wait for your package to arrive. This is not anonymous, so include your name and DIS name on the package.

Each exchange takes approximately a month or so to complete from start (sign ups) to finish (all packages accounted for). Please make sure you won't be on vacation during the shipping and receiving times, or if you will be, make arrangements for someone to receive your package for you.
Remember to post on the thread when you ship your package out. Also post when you receive your package, and what goodies you get.

Sign-ups will run now through Saturday morning November 7. Names will go out in PMs later that evening, so please remember to check your messages on the DIS that day. This exchange is adults only, no kids this time.

Mail by date is November 24, so you'll have approximately two and a half weeks to shop. *PLEASE* mail on time or early, and remember delivery confirmation is preferred.

Minimum dollar amount this time is $25. That does NOT include shipping costs, OR any freebies or extras. However, it DOES need to include the cost of the stocking.

Post on this thread that you received your package and then set it aside. No peeking. We will all be opening our packages on Saturday, December 12. That's over two weeks from the mail by date so ALL packages should have arrived by then.
On that day everyone can go grab their packages and open them up! Once they are open then you can come and post again to let everyone know what wonderful goodies you received.

As a kid, I loved digging through my stocking. In some weird way, it was almost more exciting than opening my gifts. :confused3



Just to clarify a few points, the cost of this exchange is a bit higher, but that's because it includes the price of the stocking. How much you spend on the stocking is entirely up to you.

You can go to the dollar store and get a stocking to be used mainly as something to pack more gifts in. OR you can pick out a more expensive special/fancy stocking and have it actually serve as part of the present. That is up to you. But in either case, the $25 should include the cost of the stocking, but NOT shipping or any "freebies" if you send them.

As for receiving, you go ahead and post as usual when you mail and post again once you receive it to let your person know it got there safe and sound. THEN you put it away, far, far away. lol Someplace where you won't forget about it, but also where you won't be tempted to peek. ;)

Then on December 12 we all open our packages that day. Sort of like our own Christmas, kwim? :santa:

BTW - I :love: Christmas and this sounds super fun to me. I never get a stocking at home (well, I do, but I put stuff in it myself, so it's not quite the same thing). I loved getting a stocking at Christmas when we were kids because that was the ONLY thing we were able to open before everyone else (parents!) were out of bed :yay:

Well, technically the packages should remain sealed until it's time to open them. But I realize some ladies will want to open their packages to hang their stocking for decoration, so for that reason it's fine to send items out of the stocking as long as they are wrapped.
Also I know this group, and I know not everything sent is going to fit in the stocking anyway. :rotfl2: So just wrap it all up. :thumbsup2

I mean, with this large of a group odds are no date would have worked perfectly for everyone, kwim? This was just a nice mid-range date not too close to Christmas, but far enough away from the mail by date for all packages to have arrived.

I'm not familiar with sending picture messages. Do you send those to another phone or to an email address? :confused: If it's to an email address, you can send them to mine and I'll happily post them for you. If it's to another phone, then I can't help as I don't have a cell phone.

OR another option, given the circumstances, you can open a day early or wait and open when you return. I'll leave it up to you. Better to do that and get to play along, then not play at all when you were hoping to. :)

I probably won't spend much on my person's stocking. No more than $5 max because personally I feel that most people already have a special stocking they use from year to year. I know we do in our family. So for me I'm just using it almost as part of the wrapping, if that makes sense.

I called DL today and the ticket booths that day open at 6:30am since it's MM. Sooooo, IF (this is a BIG IF!!) we wake up early enough, we're heading to WOD, getting our butts in line, getting our free gift, I'm shopping, DBF leaves to the ticket booths, get his Fun card and makes his butt BACK to WOD to pay for our shopping stuff with his Fun Card!!

The only IF is if we wake up in time. That's our day to head back home and we will be staying at the parks late that night before. So let's just hope we wake up in time because I want to go shopping. :banana:

No. Not everything has to fit into the stocking. Not all my items did. I just placed them beside the stocking in the box. I forgot to wrap mine though, so don't follow my lead, lol.

Kerrie you are right your package is from me but I didn't indiv wrap stuff either. I did put SOME stuff in the stocking but some is not so to be "surprised" you will have to wait till the day you decide to open it. Sorry ;) But it sounds like you will get to open it early anyway. Hope you like everything. I tried to get stuff from your list. :) Also there were some breakables in there so hopefully they made it intact. I tried to make sure they were packed so they wouldn't break. I will be anxious to see if you liked everything and if it made it in one piece! :)

Mine went to the post office this morning. Although I had to take it to my office first as I had a bunch of the flat rate boxes there. Everyone looked at me kinda funny as I walked into Starbucks & then up to my office holding a Christmas stocking filled with fun!

I will say ahead of time, that mine looked way cuter the way that I had it assembled than it did once I got it into the box. So--to the person that will be receiving my package: pleeeeassseee do me a favor and visualize it the way it was supposed to look rather than the haphazard way it looks inside the box!

I finished all my shopping this weekend, I grabbed some Christmas wrap at Target to use. :) I need to wrap and box tonight and then I will send from work tomorrow. My exchange buddy will have her package by next week, with the holiday it will be delayed a couple of days, it should be delivered by Monday or Tuesday.

Ha - that's usually me, which is why I'm so proud of myself that I actually managed to get everything inside before I sealed it up! So.....my box is ready to go, will be delivered by Monday.....BUT I realized last night as I was packing it up that I didn't get a couple things I ordered online.....I had totally forgot about them...so when I get them I will send them out so my exchange buddy will have 2 boxes to open. :) The worst part is that the missing items are the BEST items.....so hopefully I get them in time to ship them back out to her......

The gifts aren't really wrapped but separated from the Stocking in layers of tissue paper. So when you open the box you'll automatically see the stocking but don't look under the tissue paper until Dec. 12th!

Oh Theresa...I was remembering our first exchange and how I just tossed a bunch of random stuff in a box and wrote a little note on a recyled scrap of paper. After I mailed it off, the various packages started arriving. Festively wrapped, lovely cards, themes....etc. I think it was Jen who wrote a little story for Beth...and then someone else wrote a poem. I was definitly feeling like I sucked.

I felt that Debra who got my first package would be a bit like Charlie Brown in the Halloween special. All the kids are exultant at each house, "I got a chocolate bar!!" or "I got a taffy!!", and poor Charlie Brown would open his bag and in the most sorrowful of tones state, "I gotta rock".

So, since that exchange, I have tried be a bit more clever...but seriously, no one will ever get a poem, unless I one day get your name in an exchange!!!!
I am kind of crafty...but the best I could do likely is a limerick. Maybe a Haiku if given enough time.


I am looking forward to opening my package. It is more than a little bit of a miracle that I haven't so far. I am never good at waiting. I have just been so busy since coming home from WDW hadn't really thought of it. I did shake it today. No help.

Haven't recieved my package yet but waiting eagerly! I have my christmas decos up (except the tree) and now I need some presents! I have the list with who has sent and who has received for this exchange. I also have the lists from the summer, fave character, and Halloween exchanges as to who sent to who, so I try not to give anyone the same person to send to twice.

Okay exchangers, sorry I was MIA for a bit. I was having a very nice weekend visit with Ruben's family and of course some of the wonderful Divas. :goodvibes I hope you all had a good long weekend as well. Back to reality now!! Yikes. But it's fun to see everyone's posts about receiving packages!!! Really gets the Christmas spirit and excitement building. :santa: :yay: Along with the torture. ;)



Anyway, this is where we now stand. I have 3 more packages to confirm mailing. Most likely they have been mailed, but I will probably send out a PM to those just to make sure.

And we have 13 left to post about receiving their packages. I know many will be arriving any day now, so I expect we'll see lots of fun arrivals soon!!! :yay:

Wendy, I'm glad you got the package, I was getting a little nervous about it. You can open the box, if you'd like. Everything is wrapped, but you'll have to stuff some of the items back into the stocking. Also, there is a little something on the outside of the card that you can use now, if you feel the need.:santa:

Maybe it's the name! The spelling may be different but maybe the name Kiera just begs us to buy clothes! My little darling is such a girly girl! She loves dresses and jewelry and shoes! She is getting a purse from her great grandmother for christmas and a jewlry box from her grandma!

I still have not recieved my package. Hoping it is just because someone has been delayed in sending it...I would hate to think it got lost in the mail!!!:scared1: I really don't mind it not being here yet as long as it is not lost. Less time to try to exert will power not to open it!

Well, I admit I opened the box today, Tracey (not the stocking or presents, but the box). I was just dying for some chocolate and I remembered you said there were some there - and I found a lovely Dove dark chocolate with caramel - yummy!! If there were more than one, the Customs meanies took them, but that one was deeeeeeelicious :woohoo:

Not sure if it was a good strategy for me to open the box though, because now I'm faced with the tempation of the wrapped presents :eek: BTW - the stocking is very beautiful and I love it! That stocking is calling my name though :surfweb:

So.....my box is ready to go, will be delivered by Monday.....BUT I realized last night as I was packing it up that I didn't get a couple things I ordered online.....I had totally forgot about them...so when I get them I will send them out so my exchange buddy will have 2 boxes to open. :) The worst part is that the missing items are the BEST items.....so hopefully I get them in time to ship them back out to her......
