I'm sending my mother and sister there (they'll be enjoying the first actual trip home in lieu of Steve and myself), and I want to have tons of great stories about OKW to get them psyched for the trip! What are some great moments? Fun activities at the resort itself? Not-to-be missed activities for a 17 yr old and her slightly older but no less beautiful mother? (Needless to say I will be printing this and showing it to them.) Things you would stay away from? Helpful tips? Pour on the OKW lore... they'll love it!

Let's see, the room will be spacious, with lots of room in the bathroom for all the junk that 17 year old girls need for their hair and makeup. (My youngest DD is the same age.) BTW, she can leave her blowdryer home since they'll have one.

They can take the boat to Downtown Disney which is a fun way to get there.

They can go for a swim, play tennis, basketball, shuffleboard or volleyball, rent bikes or watercraft, head for the hot tub and/or sauna.

They can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, very peaceful.

For a nice meal, Olivia's is a good spot to head to.

I hope that they have a wonderful time.

If they love chocolate, they must stop in to Olivias. Ask for Dominec. Have the Fudge cake which he will put into the microwave so the fudge begins to puddle around the plate. Then he adds ice cream and whipped cream. It is heavenly.

Friends also say the apple dessert is good but I focus on the fudge cake the minute I get there.

IF they love chocolate... my mom is a certified chocoholic ;o) She'll love that tip! Downtown Disney will surely be fun too!

Are they golfers? You can play on the course right in front of your room. If you aren't a golfer, you will have the most fun watching the fool things that others do on the golf course!! What a hoot! It was one of the high points on our last trip down there! We saw a family, dad and grandpa and uncle were golfing, and two carts were filled with the female members of the family, who were snagging golf balls out of the water on the 8th green. They got very wet, and had to rescue several of the girls who started to slip into the water. What fun, and I'm not even a golfer!

There is a nice jogging/walking path by unit 55 that follows the canal to DTD, it's nice walk to DTD then take the boat back! We love to go to the pool in the evenings around 9 or 10 and sit in the Jacuzzi, it's usually very quite and very relaxing!

One of my favorite things to do at OKW is to simply enjoy being at the resort. It has such a wonderful laid back atmosphere.

One word that comes to mind when thinking about OKW is "charming". On two of their walks around the resort, one during the day and one at night, tell them to notice all of the architectural details that the designers added to make the little clusters of buildings look different: different gingerbread accents, picket fences on some, different stairway configurations, etc. It really looks like little neighborhoods. The way the units are lit at night adds to this effect.

OKW started all the DVC magic! And it still doesn't have to take a backseat to any of the other later DVC resorts.

If they're anything like my DW and DD they'll love laying out by the main pool with the theme music in the background and the boat ride the Downtown Disney.

What could be better? They'll be staying at the flagship DVC resort, have more room than they could ever imagine and they won't need track shoes for that long hike to their room.

We just love OKW. Of our many visits there, we have always loved our accommodations (so much space!) We loved waking up and sitting on the terrace and watching the ducks (one spring visit we got to see baby ducks parading into the pond every a.m.!) We had a fantastic family reunion one xmas there -- I have very fond memories of a "gang" of us swimming in the pool, then warming up in the hot tub, and coming back to our beautiful room to relax at night! I also have a very fond memory of a January trip that turned quite cold, even by our W.V. standards... I lamented to a CM that even tho' the pools were heated, it still was far too cold to use them and our boys would be so disappointed (ages 4 and 3). She then reminded me of that great big tub wasting away in our 2 br villa, hint hint. My 2 boys were thrilled when we filled that baby up and they got to "swim" at WDW after all! THe pictures I have of them bobbing around in the tub like sea otters is precious! We also have had some very entertaining bus drivers. One driver on xmas eve was particularly lively, quizzing us all with Disney trivia questions, starting Disney songs for the bus to finish... we almost hated to get out at our stop! And Olivia's restaurant bent over backwards to accommodate our crew (3 active kids!) at meals, too. A very special place to go... this almost makes me wonder if we're doing the right thing going to VWL in 3 weeks, but we've been to OKW 5 times in a row -- we're going to branch out, but at least we know we can always come back to OKW next trip!!!

Tell your sis & mom ENJOY!!!

This is a wonderful acrobatic show in Downtown Disney. Not cheap - about $68 per ticket. Usually two shows a night. doesn't run every night. You probably should call ahead for tickets. I think phone numbers and information are available on this site. I took my kids to the one in Las Vegas. They were 19 and 17 at the time. They yawned and wondered what kind of a boring "circus" they were going to and then everybody's mouth fell open when they saw it. There are several shows running worldwide. Theone at Downtown Disney is called La Nouba. It is fantastic also.

Cirque du Soleil I believe! I've heard it's great too. Any more ideas?

We stayed at OKW last Oct. for the first time as DVC owners. Even though OKW is not our home resort we loved it. While at the main pool area we met folks from everywhere, everyone was so friendly. We hated to leave in the mornings to go to the parks. We did hurry back to join in all the fun at the resort. The food at Olivia's was good, I'll try that choc. dessert next time. We had our DD with us who was 4 at the time she truely enjoyed the Community Hall activies and riding up front on the 4 wheeled bikes, well at least until it started raining on her then she had a few choice words for her dad and I. LOL There was a DJ at the pool one day we had a great time with him playing name that tune.

We are going back again this year, we can't wait. We'll be bringing 4 more family members with us to share in all the fun.:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :)
P.S. Don't forget carry your Hank's Happening with you so you don't miss out on any of the resort activies. Have a great time.
