I WAS WONDERING IF ANYBODY EVER TAKEN THE AUTO TRAIN BEFORE THE CRUISE. I WAS WONDERING IF IT IS MORE BETTER THEN FLYING. WE ARE GOING ON JULY 19 2003. ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE HELPFUL.

THANK YOU

I took the auto train home from Orlando once because my husband was ill. I wouldn't do it again unless I had a sleeper. We really weren't comfortable for 18-20 hours in a seat very much like an airline seat. I also found it quite a bit more expensive than flying. Anita.

We took the auto train last October. Will never do it again. I am afraid to fly and after the 9/11 attacks I couldn't get myself on the plane. Our family of 5 decided to do the auto train. We didnt get the sleeper and it was the most uncomfortable ride. Luckily the cars were pretty empty so we each could get a row of 2 and lay sideways and try and get comfy, but it was really tough. And it was such a looong ride. This year I am definitely flying!!!

AMTRAK is notorious for being late due to various circumstances beyond their control... mostly the fact that they don't own the tracks they're on and they're at the mercy of the tracks' owners to allow them the right-of-way over the freight trains. This is particularly a problem with the Auto Train. It is frequently late into Sanford... something you'll want to keep in mind if you plan on arriving the morning of your cruise.

If you do choose to take the Auto Train, however, I have directions from the Sanford terminal to the ship...
