I am gonna be in the LA area for three days and my old college roomie and I are going to met up to go to DL for two days of fun!!! She lives about an hour and a half away, and we were wondering if anyone has a suggestion for cheap rooming in the area. We can't afford to stay on property! Thanks! I can't wait. I haven't been to DL in eight years!

What is cheap for you? For some people cheap is $89. For others Cheap is $39. Around Disneyland you can find some inexpensive rates but they are not the greatest hotels.
The Candy Cane is a great hotel and runs $79-$99 if you can get a room there.
The Howard Johnson Plaza is a great place as well and can often be had for $59-$69.
For really cheap there is an older motel that recently remodeled and is around the corner from the parks. Abby's Anaheimer is the name and it is $39-$59.
Some other less expensive ( $39-59) places are The Islander Inn and Suites, The Alpine motel and The Maingate Inn.
The Park Vues is and older motel that has an awesome location and you can walk to Disneyland in 5 minutes if you hit a green light at the cross walk. It is a bit noisy there but can be had for $59 sometimes.

Carousel Inn is pretty inexpensive, and sometimes they have coupons in those "tourist" magazines (maybe your friend could get one for you). I think we paid about $59 per night a few years ago in September. The location is great too, and the rooms are pretty roomy and clean.
I like the Howard Johnson's though it's a little further down the street. I think it was about $69 per night the last time we stayed there a few years ago.
Have you considered Priceline? Maybe you could get a good deal on a nicer hotel.

Try http://www.biddingfortravel.com/ to help you use priceline, if you decide to go with that.
A friend of mine recently got the Hyatt Regency Irvine (Going to a UCI Medical Conference) for about $28 per night in late August (not including tax...but then again, there isn't much tax on $28)- That is a 3* hotel, with rack rates of at least $80 per night. You can also get similar deals at Hyatt Regency Anaheim (On Harbor, I believe), but just know that nothing is guaranteed. That website, should give you a great hand.
Good luck

For my trip in November, I reserved the Fairfield Inn by Marriott for $53/night. (AAA rate) It is an old Best Western that has been remodeled recently. It is across the street from the Disney property.
The non-AAA rate was $59.

How did you get that rate at Travelhero??? I just went and looked for our August trip and it was $74 a night, no free night.
Let me know, please.

Thanks for the reply. They must not be doing it, because I am looking for 4 nights. I'll try again with my fingers crossed!

Go to www.roomsavers.com and click on Anaheim... This is the web site for the travel books that are in all the resturants. There is a coupon in there now for the Carousel for $64.95. I have stayed at Carousel Inn and Suites in the past and it use to be quite inexpensive but the prices have gone up alot cheapest I've found is $79. That and the Candy Cane ( around $79 also)are quite nice. Tropicana is nice too and close. The Park Vue is not as nice but right across the street from the stoplight from DL and usually $59 a night... Alpine is usually alittle cheaper but alittle bit farther,, by the Candy Cane

You also might try getawaytoday. They offer packages but I have just gotten passports and rooms sans package as well as a package last fall. If you do go through them, there is a $10.00 handling fee but I didn't pay any sales tax, so that must be in the handling fee. I have found them to be very helpful.
Here is a link: Get Away Today (http://www.get-away-today.com/homepage.htm)
Hope this helps.

I still get the buy one get one deal for the week we're there. I checked some earlier dates and couldn't get that rate. If you're flexible, that rate is showing 8/23 - 9/2. You might be able to get it for dates around that time.

Thanks ccollmoe!
We are completely inflexible with dates!!! Year-round school for kids and Dad! This year the schedule is such that teachers only have 8/15-8/20! The kids don't go back until 8/26, but I can't really write a note for my husband!!! LOL!!!
Thanks for checking again, though. I appreciate it!
