The news yesterday announced massive lay-offs taking place inside Disney. The coverage here indicated that most of the layoffs would be a WDW. My question is how you experienced folks think this will impact on DVC. During the last Bush ressession, did this have an impact on your experience?

It sounds like they are looking first for "volunteers" from among the long-time (high paid) middle management group. I don't think there will be a tremendous impact on DVC though I wonder whether some of the guides may be on a tightrope with little to sell and Disney looking for cutbacks.

The 4,000 employee cutback is company wide and the expectation is that it will mean 1,200-1,400 jobs at WDW. The jobs this is directed at are salaried and technical positions. I doubt we will see any effect at all at the resorts.
It does remain to be seen how they will staff AKL and Pop Century- both due to come on-line this year. (I know AKL is already fully staffed.)
The company is offering a severance package to entice the voluntary "retirements". They hope to have the reduction complete by July.
