I hope someone can help me. Since the Disney Store stopped selling Disney Dollars, we can't save up all year long like we do every year. Does anyone know where you can buy them. Buying them from the Disney Store was so convenient.

Thanks,

The lady at our Disney store told us there is a number you can call and order them but it's FIFTEEN DOLLARS TO ship them!! Not worth it to me!
That seems like a crazy markup on shipping for something that should be the price of one postage stamp!

Ours didn't tell us that. I would not pay that either. I wonder if they are going to still sell them in Disney World.

The Disney Store cashier did say that they will sell the Dollars in the World but I didn't ask where since we're not going this year.
I was very dissappointed that they were discontinued as it was easy to buy a few here and there each month to save for the next trip..

I haven't been able to find them easily either so I just purchase Disney Gift Cards online from their website - free shipping, you can get them anywhere from $25 and up, and they are accepted anywhere in the World. If it works out too, we ask for them for the kid's birthdays and Christmas from relatives so they have their own spending money too.

Be careful with the gift cards - I've heard of people having a hard time trying to use them, especially in DTD. There's a long list of "non-Disney" vendors that don't accept them.

I am having this same exact problem and this is the information I have found out thus far from other sites. Disney Dollars are only purchasble at the Resort only as the Disney Stores stopped selling them in the beginning of October however, the dollars are going to be phased out within a year or two being the Disney gift card will be the only option.

Really? That kind of sucks. I always made sure to get a few while I was down there. Like a $1, $5, and $10, and kept them as souvenirs. Collecting a gift card doesn't sound interesting at all.

I agree, I am horribly mad about this decision. They say it is part of their "green" initiative. A plastic card takes a lot longer to biodegrade than paper money.

Please, if you are upset, write to the Disney company. We are stock holders and wrote a strongly worded letter condeming this move. If they receive enough complaints they will re-evaluate the decision!

Thanks for the info. I guess I will now have to have anyone I know to get them when they go down. I figured Disney was making money since so many people also keep them as souveniers and not use them. If you get a gift card you will actually use that.

Can anyone provide a link to a source that say Disney is discontinuing Disney Dollars. I've been looking, but haven't found anything except on message boards.

I found this on DisneyDollars.net, but I don't think they are associated with Disney.

As of October 4th 2009 The Disney Store no longer sells Disney Dollars. However, they are still available from Disneyland and DisneyWorld Resorts.
Disney Dollars are not available for purchase online from Disney
Please be aware that the Disney Store near you may still have leftover Disney Dollars, but remember when they sell out they're out

I have $200.00 Disney Dollars left over from our last trip. Does anyone know if I will still be able to use them at WDW on our next trip which isn't until Sept. 2011 or can I go to a Disney store now and buy a Disney gift card with them?

I have not seen an article either. I saw a posting on another site dated October 14th. It said something about Backstage announced that Disney CM's will no longer be selling Disney Dollars. The store manager only told my DH that the Disney Store will stop selling them. Didn't mention anything about Disney stop selling them. I remeber hearing that Disney does not own The Disney Store. It was bought several years ago but was able to keep the name. I guess their agreement to sell the dollars at the store has expired.

Well this stinks.. I am a Dave Ramsey follower and I really want my kids to understand that debt is dumb and cash is king.. using a card does not impress the point of knowing, in your hot little hands, how much you have. We can do all the deducting and when it is out, it is out, but the handing of a card to a cashier and not really seeing and conceptualizing the transaction won't teach them anything..

I will use cash, regular ole cash at WDW.. bummer.

I really wanted to put disney dollars in DS's stocking for christmas this year for our next trip. I am disappointed. I guess I could give a gift card, but it's not the same as understanding how much $ he has to spend.

:confused3I just bought Disney Dollars from the Disney store this past summer for my nieces for their trip...they made no mention that it was no longer going to be sold in stores. They LOVED that they had their OWN money to spend....I am not happy

I found this information from someone on another board and this is what they said: "I recently made a payment toward my room at FW account in Disney Dollars ($100 we had gathered over time) and the CM told me Disney Dollars are going away entirely. Not just from the Disney Stores but entirely. She happily accepted my Dis$ and I'm sure they'll be spendable for a long time to come - just not buyable."

From what it sounds like you should be able to use Disney Dollars no matter what until we all hear the official word from Disney that they are not using DD anymore.
I am not happy about this situation at all. This was a perfect opportunity to teach them about money and now I have to use plastic gift card UGH!!!

jnfr - I've been able to see it on other message boards, but I was hoping to find something a little more concrete in nature. I haven't seen in on any sort of News site. Hopefully the reports of the Disney Dollars demise are greatly exagerated (sp) and we can still get them at the Parks for years to come.

If you live where there's a Giant Eagle somebody just posted that they know are selling disney gift cards. You'll get 20 cents in fuel perks for buying the giftcard.

As of May 1, 2008, the Disney Stores North America were given back to the Walt Disney Company. I am (and have been) a CM at the Disney Store for years. This was Disney's choice to stop selling Disney Dollars at the stores. I tell guests to contact Disney if they are upset about the decision. I do hope that they decide to bring the DD back to the stores.
