Going to bake some Peanut Butter Blossoms with DD tonight.:) Preparing for our 1st Nor'Easter of the year (hopefully the last;)) Ahhh, it's times like this that are going to make me appreciate a caribbean cruise in January! They're calling for about a foot of snow here overnight:scared1:. When the weather man refers to it as a "one in every 20 years" storm....you know it's a big one:thumbsup2 Just hope we don't get another one the weekend we leave. We gave ourselves a day of clearance so hopefully we won't need it! 27 days.................

O it was "big one in PA and DE" we had to postpone our daughter's wedding yesterday until next Saturday still had a blast since everyone made it to the hotel Friday night and we all got snowed in together yesterday!!

Oh no! Was she okay with it? That's terrible she had to postpone but it sounds like you all made the best of it. They'll have a great story to tell of their wedding for years to come:lovestruc! Hope all goes well next weekend! We got over a foot here:scared1:. Schools cancelled for tomorrow. The kids are thrilled!

We got almost 20 inches here but we are only on a 2 hour delay. Yes, we made the best of it and had a wonderful time and the best part is everyone will be back for "take 2" next Saturday.

Just figured out how to join this thread. My DH , myself and DD, Megan, age 81/2 are on this cruise and would love to participate in everything and anything! Hope it's not too late to join the Fish Extender! Thanks!
PS- I went to High School in Clemmons!

Welcome aboard :cool1: So you're a West Forsyth alum?...I think we can make arrangements ;) Is this your first DCL cruise?

Yahoo my husband is home, I am so excited. This is the best day of the whole entire year.

Very happy for you both ! Enjoy the holidays!!!:dance3:

Wow, sorry she had to postpone, but maybe you can have "twice" the fun. Hope she was not too disappointed.

Seems like I missed a great deal on the disboards this weekend. I've been so busy at work that I haven't checked in on you guys much. We finally got a great big snowfall in North Carolina and of course it was my weekend to work. The kids had to build the obligatory snowman without me. The snow on the ground really makes it seem like the Christmas season. I'm off of work this entire week and I don't know where to start. So much I want to bake, old Christmas movies to watch with the girls, gifts to wrap. Wow, I'm sure this week will fly by. But of course, the cruise will be just around the corner.:woohoo: We got the cruise docs last week, and had to promptly hide them since the kiddos are out of school. Can't believe we've been able to keep the secret this long.

Yes, this is our first cruise with Disney! We are all very excited, but clueless being 'newbies'! A neighbor had actually told me about the fish extenders at a DCL House Party she hosted. I know my daughter will love that. Looking forward to meeting everyone that Sat. If you have any other pointers for us, please pass along! I've tried to read past messages to get more info. All is appreciated! And yes, went to Southwest and West Forsyth many moons ago! :)

Glad to see so many receiving their cruise docs. It makes it seem much more real to me. I actually saw swimsuits at Costco today. Thought it might be an omen that I need a new one for the cruise:rolleyes1 As I begin my Christmas baking :santa: it actally seems a sick coincidence that I will be in swim attire in 3 weeks :rotfl: Can't wait for the warm weather no matter what I have to wear.:banana:

Well, as far as pointers, you can find a million on these boards. One of my favorite things about DCL is that DH and I can have some time to ourselves without feeling like the kids are board or "stuck at home". In the past our kids have never been ready to leave the kids programming when we pick them up. DH and I enjoy Palo, the adults only restaurant. There is a surcharge for meals there ($15-I think), but we feel it is more than worth it. The service and the quality of food is even better than in the dining rooms.

Are you driving to Port Canaveral? If so I would recommend taking advantage of one of the hotels that offers shuttle service to the port. On past cruises we have driven to Savannah or Jacksonville on Friday night and then parked our car at the terminal. The $ really add up fast when you consider the car is just parked. Last fall when we cruised w/ Disney we stayed at the Radisson Resort at the Port. It was very comfortable and convenient. We left the car at the hotel and used their shuttle to/and from the terminal. There are a few hotels in Port Canaveral that offer that service.
The best advice I can offer is don't overpack. The cabins and the closets only hold so much. Every cruise I take a little bit less, and we still have things we don't wear. But don't forget to add a little piratepirate: gear if you have it. I love dressing up for Pirate night pirate:pirate: DH will usually humor me with an eye patch and/or bandanna, but the girls and I will dress up!

FYI, my DD-9 Kari is in third grade too. I'm very excited that she can make a cruise friend close to home. On our last cruise she made 2 very good buddies, but one lives in Ohio, and the other in New Jersey. So, now they are penpals (e-mail pals ). One last question, I see from your tag that you are a nurse? or nurse educator? Do you happen to work for Novant? I am a pharmacist with Novant Health (Forsyth Med Center).

Just got an email from our travel agent that my documents are in - I think I might be the last one - but that's OK. It's still exciting!

Something else that is exciting - we actually got those free tickets to the Kennedy Space Center. With all the money that I have spent lately between the cruise and Christmas - every little bit helps.

Today Hubby and I are hitting the gym (gotta put that swim suit on soon:scared1:) then taking the kids to see Alvin and the Chipmunks. I won't let them see any Disney movies this close to the vacation in case they are playing on the ship:laughing:

Merry Christmas Eve Eve (as my DD said to me this morning)!

I wonder if there is any system DCL uses to send out docs? Many of you got them a couple weeks ago, I got mine 2 days ago, & my aunt (who is cruising w/us & lives the next street over from us) has not gotten hers yet. Weird:confused3. I feel that I was much more prepared for the cruise last year for some reason. Just got to get Christmas out of the way so I can finalize everything else for this cruise. Working til 4:30 then off til Monday:banana:! Hopefully in the middle of all the eating & presents I can find time to at least hit the gym for some cardio!:rotfl2:........We shall see:)

:sail::sail::sail:DISMEET!!!:sail::sail::sail:

I was thinking about the DisMeet (3pm!) and about where to meet. I've read that some groups meet outside, and some inside. Knowing that it might be chilly at the port, I'm thinking inside will be the best choice for us. Now, for where? Someone had previously suggested the promenade lounge. Any other suggestions? Or does that sound like the best idea for everyone?

Just finished speed reading the 28 pages of posts (from both threads) to do a quick catch-up so now I can introduce myself. (Of course the speed reading means I didn't pay any attention to who posted what so please don't expect me to know anything when I meet you. lol)

My family and I booked this cruise over a year ago and I actually posted on the original thread but my intentions to keep involved didn't turn out as I planned. But I introduced my mother to the DIS and she's become an excellent lurker: telling me the various things that are going on and learning how to make magnets, etc. She just won't actually join and post anything herself.

So here goes for the introductions... (this was us on the Wonder in '07)
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u22/OCDforWD/familyonWonder.jpg
Obviously the kids are all a little bigger now - some bigger than their Aunt Kimmy! (The 14yo was already bigger than me back then! I'm the one in the purplish dress.)

So anyways... it's me - Kimberly (or Kim or Kimmy or Kim-Kim, etc)
DF & DM Clement & Juanita (far right back of pic)
DB & DSIL Kenneth & Vicki (middle back of pic)
plus Kirsten(17), Brittany(14), Patricia(10), & Elizabeth(10)
DS & DBIL DeAnna & Barry (left side & back)
plus Trevor(12), Dylan(9), and Megan(6)
and a family friend Kelley who is about my age.

15 of us in 4 rooms - at least I'm in a SPH - but it's with Kelley and the oldest nieces. Oh well, I'll be thankful I'm on the ship, right?

We are not in for the FE (so don't worry that we missed the deadline), but definitely excited about meeting everyone at 3pm in the Promenade Lounge! I think it will be nice for the kids to meet other kids than just their siblings and cousins. Plus it will give me other people to meet for when I decide to ditch my family, lol!!

I loved cruising with them on the Wonder in '07, but I have to admit that I had a better time on the Magic in '08 ALL BY MYSELF for the Panama Canal cruise. Met some of the best people ever - still chat with them almost daily on Facebook (one of the main reasons I can't ever get to the DIS - lol).

Anyway, to wrap up this monster post I thought I should add that we're in 2nd dining and I'm forcing them all to dress up for pirate night!! Also, we have a private tour booked for St. Maarten but not really sure what we're doing for St. Thomas. (I think that answers all the main questions...)

Okay, I'll try to stay on top of this - surely I can for 3 1/2 weeks!! YEAH!!

Welcome to all of our newcomers!

The begining of the week is our busy time for the holidays. Now I'm just working all weekend.

I think it has become tradition for DIS meets in the lounge so the crew would miss us if we didn't show up. :yay: I'm trying to keep the weather nice, and I'm sure just not having snow is an improvement for most of you but it has definatly been windy around here. Make sure you have a jacket or layers packed.

I'm up, and avoiding wrapping the last four gifts...for no good reason.

Meanwhile, a couple of quotes that always get me going...

"One dollar and eighty-seven cents. That was all. And sixty cents of it was in pennies." "Three times Della counted it, One dollar and eighty-seven cents. And the next day would be Christmas"

"Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies!"
"Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist."

"Christmas won't be Christmas without presents!"

"'God Bless us every one!' said Tiny Time, the last of all."

Merry Christmas to all! Made a DVD of last years cruise & set it to the song "hey baby". Told them (the kids) it was just a compilation of all our pics & that was their gift. Then at the end of the DVD I put across the screen "Well pack your bags because on January 16,2010 we're going on another Disney Cruise!!" then I threw a bunch of sunscreen, sandals, sunglasses, etc in a huge box & had them open it last. DS pretty much knew already (at 14 it's harder to keep a secret). But DD was surprised. They still don't know we were upgraded to an oceanview so I'm going to keep that a little surprise for when we get there:)

Oh my..found this board, as decided I needed to start planning our familie's first cruise.

I will be traveling with my husband, and two children: DD (6) and DS (4).

We have never taken them on a cruise and I have a MILLION (well, maybe not quite) questions.

Who has the time to indulge me?

What is a fish whatever?? Gift Exchange?? I have no idea what that is

Welcome aboard! I think the fish extenders deadline expired but, it's a sort of wall hanger thing w/pockets that you hang outside of your stateroom door. Outside of everyones stateroom door is a metal fish ornament that people hang these "fish extenders" from & people from the dismeet exchange little treats in them. It's a cute idea but w/Christmas just before the cruise & how hectic everyday life has been in general I just didn't have it in me.But there are a few that did it. We are planning a meet, I believe in the Promenade lounge around 3. Good chance for all to meet. Especially the kids who will be hanging out in the clubs together all week.

I am very new to this forum and lastnight was my actual first time ever really reading anything. We just completed in August our 3rd DCruise after my husband's LONG 15 month deployment. We loved it, but noticed something different that the one we took before he left.

Funny bags were being hung on the doors of the cabins and people seemed to be having fun with it. I wanted in on the fun too, but it took me forever lastnight to find out
1. What those bags were!!
2. Who to contact to get in on the fun!!
3. How to find you to get in on it.....

only to see the deadline was the 15th of Dec. I am hoping it isn't too late to share my name and cabin number with others to exchange with. My husband and I are ditching the kids (since they missed 5 days of school in August) and taking my darling Aunt who just had a terrible experience on her first cruise on another cruise line who shall remain nameless.

I wanted to add to her memories with the fun of the FE's if it wasn't too late.

We are a military family and are stationed in South Texas right now, so we have lots of ideas for the FE's.

Please let me know soon so I can start buying goodies for the exchanges and give me some cabin numbers to share with.

Our cabin number is 2565 and we have three adults.

My husband Matt, my Aunt Dianne and Me....Lisa

Thanks so much and Happy New Year.

My personal electronic mail is weezyree at hot mail dot com if you like to email me there. I tried to send you a PM and can't leave me electronic mail address here since I am less than 10 posts or something and it tooks me nearly 40 minutes to find you this morning so I hope I find this again.

Welcome RockiesLady! I have a DS who just turned 5 on December 6th - he wil be so excited to meet a boy his age - I think this is a girl heavy Dismeet (which is great for my DD!)

Well, we got the cruise docs yesterday - :cool1: and our TA even included a very cute Disney picture frame:thumbsup2:. Now that the holidays are over I can concentrate on cruise planning!

Speaking of planning, is anyone doing the Doubloon cruise when we are in St. Thomas? I just booked that after reading a trip report on the boards. My kids and DH saw the pics and they were sold!

Okay..since I'm just now looking at this trip (been too busy with holidays).

My son is 4.5 at cruise time. However, now I see he cannot join us on any excursions for snorkeling since he's not 5. Do you know...will they let us take him, if my husband and I take turns hanging out with him, and other one snorkeling with Daughter?? I want to take daughter with us, to give her the experience, but don't want to leave son out. If not, is it possible to "fib" on his age in order to take him with us?? Or, do they check that pretty closely?

We understand the reason behind the age, but some of the excursion are days at the beach with snorkeling and floating on tubes. I would like to do the tube floating with son, and then take turns between hubby and I snorkeling with daughter.

Thoughts??

Also..I keep reading soft drinks are paid for, how much does it cost to buy water?? I drink a lot of water..any tips to stay hydrated without going broke on the ship?

I'm so glad I found this site. I'd rather ask people who have been on the cruise than continue to call Disney.

first couple days the water tasted very chlorinated. After that it was fine.:thumbsup2 (or we just got used to it) :lmao: So you can either drink the ship's water. Or carry your own on with you. Stop at walmart or something before and get a case. But you have to CARRY it on and lug it around the ship with you until your room is ready so it could be more of a hassle than it's worth. Disney doesn't want people checking any liquids with the porters. I'm a big water drinker too and I'm just planning on drinking the ship's water. I can survive a week of it. Besides, I need that room in my carry on for my rum, mint and limes for my Mojitos!:rotfl:

Okay...

Are we allowed to carry in alcohol? I thought DH and I tried that on Carnival with wine, and had to remove it. I'm not sure we will want to lug that all through the airports etc, but perhaps.

DCL is the only cruise line (that I'm aware of anyway) that allow you to carry your own on. This is from the DCL website:.

Alcohol is permitted on board. However, be aware that any fragile items (including bottled alcohol) must be hand-carried on board in a day bag and/or carry-on bag, the dimensions of which cannot exceed 22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep. Guests who request a Wine Steward to open and serve a bottle of champagne, wine or liquor that has been brought onboard will be charged a corking fee of $15.00 per bottle.

Please be advised: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from luggage. In such cases, items will be stored and returned at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage

Only thing they ask is that you carry it on in a carryon bag or soft sided cooler w/o ice. and it has to fit through the xray scanner.

Hi everyone, Just got directed to this thread from the DCL forum. We are going on the Magic Jan. 16th cruise. It is my family (me, DH, DS 10, DD 8 and DS 3) and my parents. One of our kids is staying in their room. We booked Cat. 12 GTY and are still waiting for our cabin assignments. Check every day! We have cruised several times before but this is our first Disney cruise. My hubby and father were not so thrilled with the idea but are still along for the ride. Hubby thought that it was way too much money compared to other cruises. We are a disney loving family. We have been to Disney World several times as a family and bought into DVC about a year and a half ago. Looking forward to this trip!

Welcome!!! Hope you'll join the Dismeet!!!

Looks like we have several new families joining us. Welcome to all. I would like to get a count of how many are interested in the FE exchange. I don't want to leave anyone out, but we do need to know how many folks we have interested. It may even be possible to design an exchange only between the more recently registered cruisers. I would prefer a personal message (PM) be sent to my account, but I know if you are very new you need 10 posts to be able to PM. Post away! PM is preferred because I personally do not want to post my kids age, name, and room number on the web for the whole world to read, and I would not ask it of others.
By the way to PM me all you have to do is click on my name in the avatar area. The boards will give you the option of sending a private message.

Again welcome to everyone! :yay:I'm glad to see the dismeet growing!:thumbsup2

for all our new cruisers that don't have 10 posts I think there is a place on the main dis boards where you can just post to get 10 posts. Like a test area I've been on for a few years now but I do remember just posting my name until I reached 10 posts.

I'd like to do one family excursion type of thing with beach, snorkeling etc. It appears that none of them offered on the cruise ship allows for children under 5.

Suggestions?

Also, anybody else going to go SCUBA diving?

here's what we are doing:

St. Maarten: Bernards Tours (tour with beach stop) the kids and I have our own snorkel equip., but I know that there are rental places on the beach. The tour is $35 per person and I have heard really good things about it!

St. Thomas: We were debating going to St. John - but I have chickened out. We are doing te Doubloon sail and snorkel. I know the age limit is 5 - but I was also looking at a similar excursion called Fury Charters. They are actually rated #1 on trip advisor. There is no age limit on this one and they said they love kids! Just google fury charter st thomas.

Hope I helped! My DS just turned 5 this month so I just made it by the skin of my teeth!!

Just to clarify we haven't actually closed the first group of Fish Extenders. I posted earlier today for anyone interested to PM me with their info. I will be more than happy to add new folks or as I mentioned in an earlier post I could organize a separate group of newly registered cruisers. Looks like several cabins may be interested. once while in nassau, DH and I signed up for a snorkel trip. When we arrived at the "charter" we were the only ones! It was kind of creepy at first, but we got into a conversation with the operator and in the end DH stayed on the boat while I snorkeled alone. The good part was there was no one else to scare off the fish, plus I didn't have to worry about getting too far from the group. The boat operator just floated along whereever I chose to go. I know that's not what you were refering to, but sometimes the best memories come from just going with the flow. If you want to do something that DH doesn't I wouldn't be at all concerned about signing up to a group activity or tour.:thumbsup2

Cruise docs are a little book that contains your luggage tags, cruise contract, payment authorization forms, etc. The envelope actually says special cruise documents enclosed.

So, I had a DisMeet nightmare!

We were on the boat and I was so tired that I laid down for a nap. I woke up at 3pm and DH was no where to be found. I had to find clothes, get a whole bunch of crap together (not sure why) and then I had to find the lounge. But the lounge wasn't where everyone said it would be. I got there at 3:29 and everyone was in the middle of a party game. The game was 'be the last one to unwrap the spatula' and the winner got two bottles of wine. My thought was 'that's the second worst party game I've ever seen'.

Kind of... We're flying in the night before and staying at a non-view Animal Kingdom Lodge room on DVC pointes. It was actually the cheapest (pointe wise) of all the locations.

Afterward, we're going to Disney's Vero Beach resort for 3 nights.

We're staying a night at Pop after the cruise but not going to the parks. We were just there in Sept. and have never ventured off Disney property. I think we might actually go to Universal or something that day, then head over to DTD for the evening. The hotels in the Universal area seemed questionable and about the same price. UNLESS I wanted to spend $250/night on a Universal owned hotel... which I don't. It's funny because staying at Pop was one of the cheapest options in the area. I figured that I could either stay there, or some Holliday Inn or something in a questionable area. At least I know this hotel will be in a good area.

I wanted to check out the value hotels anyway. I've never stayed in one, but want to take a trip to WDW with the kids next Dec. and want to see if staying value is an option for that trip. :)This gives me the opportunity to check it out without having to stay too long if I hate it.

Pirate night is the same day as St Martin. There are princess meets onboard. Also they do things in the kids clubs w/ the princesses too. There will be plenty of "princessy" things to do for your little girl. You should bring a couple of princess dresses for her. My DD7 wears them to dinner on formal/semi formal night. And to the clubs for the princess activities. Or to the shows. Always an opportunity to dress up as a princess. :love:I saw one woman last time change her daughters outfit for each pic with each princess. She had them all!

Just go to guest services when you board. They save a few reservations for that reason. Also you can check about being put on a cancellation list if someone doesn't show. But you should have no problem booking once you get to port.Oops! I meant rockin d bar not guest services! Sorry!

Okay, I called because I wasn't sure how to determine my seating time, I didn't see it anywhere. I was planning things today assuming I had main seating, but apparently, we do not..we have late seating.

I have never done a cruise with children, but I am fearful that my kids will be wiped out by that time, and not be able to sit through dinner. Then, we won't be able to due to them falling asleep.

Any thoughts?? They are 4 and 6. Do your kids eat at the late or earlier time??

I think it depends on a few things. For one thing, what time zone are you in now? If you are from the west, this won't be too bad of a dinner time considering the time difference. The 8:15 is really 6:15 our time. :) Also, do your kids tend to stay up late and eat late at home or is it usually early nights at your house? I send my 4 yr old to bed at 8:30 at home. We tried to push the bedtime back a few times at WDW this Sept. and found her sleeping at dinner a few times even with the time change. :rotfl: If you think it will be a problem, you can see if there is any way for them to change it once you get on board.

We are doing late seating with my 4 1/2 year olds. We cruised when they were 2 on a carnival cruise and found early seating to be a pain. It seemed to kill to much of the day. There was no time for an afternoon nap (for us or the kids) since it was time to get dressed for dinner.

Do not feel bad about being a "newbie". This is my 5th cruise and I was a CM at DCL for a year and am still learning stuff!

The first seating for dinner is the hardest thing to get into, but it is always worth it to go to Rokin' Bar D and see what they can do. There are a lot of pluses to late seating. The day is not as rushed and the servers serve the kids first then CM's come to the dining room so the kids can go to the clubs. There is also a nice dinner at Beach Blanket Buffet if you want to eat with the family at a different time.

Don't stress!!! This is the first cruise that I actually have been able to get Palo ressie prior to embarkation. When you board the ship on Sat. go directly to Rockin Bar D (rockin' D Bar??). On our cruise Oct '08, they blocked about 1/2 of the ressies from the online reservation system. That means that the other 1/2 of ressies were available for booking the day of embarkation.

Honestly, on our first cruise the kids were 4 and 6 and they literally slept at the table. IF you can change to early dining once onboard I would. That said Disney has really tried to accomodate families and now the kids will be served first so they are finished quickly and can then go to kids club. The kids club team will pick them up in the dining room which allows the adults to enjoy a quiet meal.

There will be no problem with getting a Palo res as long as you are flexiable. Just go to Rockin' Bar D after boarding (deck 3, go right after you board). Not all Palo ressies are available online because Disney realizes not everyone will be able to pre-book. Of course sea days will be the most popular. We have ressies at 7 on the St Thomas day and I may change depending on the entertainment for the night. You will get a call/note about what time they have available for you.

Oh, I would love to commit to classes with others. I will do the spinning and yoga (being a nurse I have a problem with my heel and have to be selective so I can work when I come home, lol). I also love to swim, and the adult pool is always empty at 5-6 pm.

Of course some of the best exercise available is taking the stairs.

YES to stairs, all the time, even in heels. I've got to make sure I'm ready for 99 Steps in St. Thomas.

In the past I couldn't do yoga (sciatica was too intense) or pilates (too much pressure on lower back), but I've had some AMAZING progress with it in the last two years, so I'm excited to try again. Currently I do gyrotonics twice a week without any sciatica problems, so I'm really excited to do a yoga class again.

I'm tempted to try the spinning, but I haven't been in a class that had aerobic expectations in a v. v. long time.

Do you have heelspurs and/or plantar fascitis that make it difficult?

On my last cruise we had a "Grown-up Princess Night" coinciding with the last formal night so that we could feel special as well as all of the little girls. (There were about 400 people in our DIS meet on-board.) It was hysterical to see all of the other ladies looking at us wondering why we were all wearing gloves and tiaras with our formal dresses... but SO much fun!!

OK, I am new to the board as well (glad to see I am not the only one). We are going to be on the Magic cruise on the 16th (myself ::MickeyMo, my wife ::MinnieMoand our 3 daughters :earsgirl::earsgirl::earsgirl:- 12, 10 and 8 (at cruise time)).

I am confused by all the acronyms...can someone explain what DH, DD, DS and maybe some others I haven't seen yet mean?

We went on a 4 day Disney cruise about 4 years ago, but frankly I did not do any preparation for that.

This time I am a bit more prepared....

I have filled out all the online forms, registered everyone and now I have found this discussion board. I have also booked one excursion on St. Maarten (a downhill mountain trek), but nothing else.

I have heard there might be a 5K run at Castaway Cay, which I am interested in.

I guess the next pressing question is...what else should I be thinking about? I know we are only about 2 weeks away, but better late than never.

So many questions, so little time...

Metro..

I'm with you on all of the questions. I think booking your excursions ahead of time is great, we are in the process of doing that.

We missed booking PALO, which apparently is all booked up according to online resv., but others on the site say you can still get reservations onboard, as long as you do it right away.

Otherwise, sounds like you're all set.

Where in Chicago are you?? We're in the WAY Northern Suburbs..on the Wisconsin border.

Hey All...

Since many of you have done this before. How many people dress up for Pirate night?? My son was a pirate last year for Halloween, costume is a tad small, but I'm taking it. My daughter wants me to get her one now too...so I'm looking on Ebay.

Do adults dress up?? If so, how many? My neighbors have costumes we can borrow, but I don't want to lug extra things if only a handful of people dress up. My kids will for sure, but am not sure on the two of us :)

A lot of people dressed up for pirate night. My DD7 has a costume. DH has a shirt w/ a rib cage on it and a skull cap and eye patch ( and he'll only wear all that if he has " a few" before hand:drinking1. ). I have a peasant skirt and shirt I wear with a pirate hat. DS14 also has the shirt w/ a rib cage on it that he'll wear. Its really a matter of personal choice. You won't look out of place if you do dress up. But you wont look out of place if you don't either. But I would definitely make sure to bring the kids costumes.pirate:

I keep telling them they won't look as outrageous as me because I'm wearing the outfit I had for my last cruise when I knew people designing authentic Pirates of the Caribbean costumes JUST for that cruise!! We dress up!!! pirate: Last time I made constumes for all. DH did not want to wear the entire "get up" so he settled for vest, hat, patch, and earring... looked great with his shorts and flip-flops:rotfl: The girls both dressed up as pirates (pants, vests, etc) and I made myself a captains coat complete with gold braids. This time I am taking a pirate wench costume purchased at K-mart because the wool coat was just too HOT for the Caribbean.pirate:pirate:pirate:

Yes! another one! and I'll try the spinning, as long as you all know that I might quite half way through.

I don't know if you've gone to therapy for them, but I've got a few exercises that really, really help out. It's something that I have to deal with quite a bit, being a ballet teacher.

Hi everyone. I posted way back in the first thread. I am a lurker but decided to say hi again.:goodvibesIt’s DH Gary 41, Me Joleen 35, DS 12yr, DS 18months, DD 6mo, DM (dear mom? Sure I’ll tell everyone she is 59), and DG (dear Grandma 84)

This is our third cruise. Me, DH and kids just went in Oct 09 Western. This trip was intended for getting my grandma and my mother on a family cruise, moms first. My sister was to come but chickened out. :sad2:What was she thinking?

I think in St Thomas DH and I :love:am doing the all day sail, snorkel and honeymoon beach. Grandma and mom are taking the two boys to the butterfly and island tour and then back to the ship (baby girl goes to Flounders till they get back).

In St Maarten I am hoping for Bernard’s, I just sent a message inquiring about reservations an hour ago. Wish us luck.:thumbsup2

We are land locked here in CO and enjoy the beach. :beach: Gosh the water is soooo warm. I am from San Diego and thought the beach was no big deal and cold. Then I felt the water in the Caribbean in Oct 08 & 09. OMG, I love the beach! The beach is now my favorite part. We are also leaving snow and the cold behind so even 60’s is going to be swim suite weather for us. So for now we look foreward to seeing the beach.

We fly in on Wend and are staying two days at Universal. We are on site and am hoping we don’t regret paying the outrageous prices to stay on site. On Friday we are staying at a cheap hotel near the airport (we pick up DG at 6 on Friday she is coming in from San Diego) We did Disney in 08, off site at an economy and really regretted it. We wish we had just spent the extra for on site.
Has anyone done Universal? Any recommendations or helpful hints?

For the newbie’s I would look into Palo dinner, and/or Brunch right when you first get on (if you have no reservations now), then it should not be to difficult to get. Also look into any beer, wine, martini or margarita classes. They are 15pp. I did the martini tasting and was disappointed. However, DH did the beer tasting and thought it was great and worth it. I think I am trying the wine or margarita tasting this time. Any suggestions? After two years of babies and BF.... bring on the liq.:rotfl: I have heard of these selling out the first day. In October the tastings were not full. We also had to cancel one person to cover the kids, so even if they do sell out ask to be wait listed if interested. Also you can request to be wait listed for early seating for the one who asked. We were wait listed for early seating and got it. Then try again when you first get on. There is also tea with Alice (? I think that’s right) and I heard often these book the first day.

Also some people get to the port early. There is often Mickey or Minnie to get pictures with. There are tv’s playing Disney movies and a replica of the ship that is interesting. Then once on ship you eat lunch and swim, explore the ship and such. Others are in no rush to get on ship. Early is 10ish, with boarding around 11:30ish.
I personally enjoy getting there early.:rolleyes1

For everyone, this ship is full. I tried to add my niece and they said there was no room left, the life boats are at max and would not add her.

Great to be cruising with you all. Nice to see a another boy was added.

Good to know. I'm going to go for the tastings right away. Last time DF's fiance got them the day of. But I don't want to chance not getting them. We are from the northwest suburbs of Chicago - Bartlett to be exact.

What else...

I will try and get everyone organized and join the DIS Meet - 3PM at the Promenade lounge. I think I saw some other posts about wearing pirate costumes for some party one evening. I am sure I can get the kids to agree to come up with costumes. I'll have to work on my DW. Anything else we should pack? I was thinking about bringing my tux and my DW says she has a nice dress. Pirate night is fun for everyone.pirate: Wear comfy shoes if you do any walking excursions. As far as dress... we have one formal night, one semi-formal night, and pirate night. Other dinners would be considered cruise casual. The range of dress on any night is wide. Some folks "dress for dinner" each night. DH and I just try to look presentable. I recomend layers. Sweatshirt/Jacket for early mornings and t-shirts with pants/shorts for afternoons. We do dress in tux/gowns for the formal dinner but not everyone does. It is easier for us because we are local to Port Canaveral and do not have to worry about airline luggage restrictions. I can pack for a family of 3 adults in one bag and a carryon. (I share a garment bag with the formalwear with my DD.) We also don't pack shampoo/soap products. We love what they have on board! Don't forget the sunscreen!!! You are much closer to the sun and it is very easy to get burnt.

A suit is fine you will see some men in a tux but most wear a suit or just a shirt and tie. Depending on who we fly is whether the dress clothes make the cruise this time they will since we are flying Southwest:woohoo::woohoo: when we have to pay for bags it is one suitcase each and usually dressy clothes get left home:sad1::sad1:

My husband took a headfirst dive down some concrete steps and broke his wrist. We will said anyhow but he certainly won't be able to navigate a sailboat. So we just cancelled 4 places on that tour, if anyone wants to grab it.

did anyone grab these 4 places on Rhumba Charter?

What kind of beer do they serve for the tastings? Is it more than what they have available to purchase? Because I'm a bit of a beer snob and I can't imagine doing a tasting based on that short list.

My last cruise was a long cruise so they had a special somnelier on board to do wine tastings and I signed up for 3 or 4 of them - all focused on different regions of the world. Do you know if it's like that for the 7 night cruises or are all the wine tastings the same? Either way I'll be participating at some point.

I also did a martini tasting and thought it was okay and I did a tequila tasting. Had I finished all of the tequila they served they would have had to carry me back to my stateroom - I can't do 5 shots! :confused3 But it was interesting to actually taste the difference in the different price ranges. Just FYI...

I'm with you on that one, five shots? Surely they weren't full pours. I've been detoxing this past week (lots and lots of water) and on New Year's Eve, I quickly discovered that I had to quit at two glasses of prosecco.

I recomend layers. Sweatshirt/Jacket for early mornings and t-shirts with pants/shorts for afternoons. .

:rotfl:I have to laugh. Coming from MA where it's currently snowing and about 34 degrees out, anything over 60 and my family will be in shorts and tanktops on those early mornings:laughing:. (except me, I'm the one whose cold even when it's 70 degrees out). I found I only really needed the sweatshirt/sweater on the 1st day @ PC, and the 1st day @ sea. After that, it was warm enough even for me to have a skirt and tanktop on. But, I'm sure, you being from FL, 65 degrees is chilly;). Oh how I wish it was even 60 degrees outside my house now:rolleyes1.

Same here, though we're a bit warmer in the Northwest. It's going to hit 50 today! That means skirt or shorts, a tee shirt and light sweater.

Okay, so I unpacked my over packed suitcase and re-evalutated:laughing:. Took out 6 things, put in 2 others and i still think I am waaaaay over packed! Maybe I should just embrace the fact that I am an "overpacker" instead of trying to fight it:lmao:. As long as I can keep it under 50lbs!;). Found out Delta (who we're flying) charges $90 for anything over 50lbs and another $175 for anything over the size limit! At that point it would be worth it to just leave the bag behind and buy all new stuff when I get there.. Have managed to pack the kids and limit it to a carry on each.:thumbsup2. We do have pirate costumes for the kids - I have a skull and crossbones tshirt and DH has a vaguely piratical (is that a word?) looking shirt. DH will probably wear a sport coat and tie for formal night. He doesn't own a tux. I am just hoping I can get a collared shirt on DS (he's 5;))

Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year's Eve / Day !

Okay..went all over today running errands, and at each store kept eye open for some type of bag to hang over the fish. Found nothing :(

What are you all using? Can I just use a small tote bag?? I think that's what it's going to be unless someone can suggest an easy way to grab something more fun :)

And..no worries..we haven't even BEGUN to pack on this end. I'm not that organized :) Maybe will start soon.

I would love to exercise with those of you that mentioned it. I do Jazzercise here and definitely miss it when I can't go! I love to walk and would like to try some of the classes too. (Inbetween the fun , of course!!)

2 weeks and counting!!!!
Happy New Year!! Looking forward to meeting everyone soon!

You can certainly use a tote. I made a Fish extender from directions found on one of the threads on the main forum. It has separate pocket for everyone in the cabin

Found some examples posted on one of our past meets:

http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=25722961&postcount=2963

Ok, it may be a little late for this, but I also stole the directions from the meet:

How to Make a Fish Extender

Pockets are 11" X 5 1/2"
Back is 32" X 8"

Materials:
You need 1/4 yard of fabric
iron interfacing
wide double fold bias tape, and
3/8" dowel 8" long

Instructions:
- - - Cut out backing and pockets then iron on interfacing.
- - - Sew bias tape on top of pocket
- - - Pleat once on each side and pin bottom of pocket so that it is 8" wide.
- - - Baste, then pin bias tape on bottom and sew on
- - - Pin pockets on backing and sew bottom of pocket to backing
- - - Pin and baste around entire outside of project.
- - - Pin then sew bias tape around outside edge of whole fish extender
- - - Fold top over leaving room for you dowel at top and sew along the inside of bias tape down each side to secure.

I've never done the tastings before but last time I sailed they only did them on one day so I imagine the wine tasting is limited. I had an assistant server on the Wonder who was very knowledgeable about wine and we really enjoyed his input for our dinner pairings. I did do a scotch tasting and after 4full servings of single malt scotch, no one was feeling unfriendly! :cool1:

I thought I was taking into consideration that most of you are from the north . Ok, the heater goes on at my house below 75 and by 60 I'm wearing a hat and gloves. I'll be the person on Castaway Cay sitting in the sun covered with a blanket. :confused3 I do remember lots of people arriving at the port complaining about the outdoor temp which I think is because of the wind so you really might want to think about one sweater. :hippie:

You can look on ebay, someone makes and sells them but I'm not sure if you have enough time. You could also take a hanging shoe holder and decorate it with scrapbook type stickers and ribbions, etc. I have also seen the tote bag idea. A FE is really whatever works for you and gives people a place to put things.

Today I plan on finishing my door decs, and working on fish extender gifts... Is any one else out there a scrapbooker? I am going to be playing with my Cricut and could bring some icons if anyone needs some...

My dh and I are certainly underpackers. I use everything I bring and usually forget to bring something that I needed. I can pack for a week at WDW in one carry-on bag. I have a feeling that I am going to have more luggage for this trip than I have EVER brought on a a trip before. Just looking at the space my dh suit will take up, plus his snorkel gear, regular clothes, dress shoes, etc. It seems that you just need more than the usual amount of packing for this kind of trip. I hope I can remember everything!!!:rotfl:

If you want to try to post a picture here just go to Tinypic or Photobucket and upload your picture then post the link. I like Tinypic because you can choose to size your picture for a web page so it is not too big.

I'm boarding my dog since my dog sitter is coming on the cruise with us. I'm trying not to think about Cloe being boarded. Last time we cruised, i got a call from the boarding place. Not sure who I have down as an emergency contact, but hopeully Cloe will do okay with the no grass (she only likes to go on grass). I have been taking her to the boarding place for doggy day camp every other week hoping it will help her while we are away.

I started to pack. I have the evening wear for one of my girls all packed. Not sure about the other one, since she was reusing to try on dresses so I don't know what still fits. She is so hard to find clothing for since she is 32 pounds and 42 inches. Almost everything is too big and still too short.

Molly and Harley will be spending the week at Camp Grandma. Unfortunalty she is 6 hours away, so they will be spending the night with their "cousins" at Uncle Jims house till Grandma and Grandpa can pick them up on Saturday. They will be traveling part way of Thursday before we fly out on Saturday. They will be spoiled rotten from their best buddy Great Grandma. She spent several months with us this summer so she is looking forward to having Mo spend the afternoon sitting on her lap.

I think my parents neighbors think thye are running a kennel as they have my brothers three dogs this week while my brother is in Florida.

We have been lucky to never have to kennel our dogs, but on our next trip to Disney that is just starting to be planned, the entire family is taking the neices and nephews to Disney World in 2011. We will have 6 adults and 4 kids. But that means finding sitters for 7 dogs between all of us...:rotfl:

We have a house full of animals. 3 dogs, a cat and a rabbit. All of us have never been away from home at the same time so this will be a new experience. The puppy is going to stay at my mother-in-law's to play with my sister-in-law's new puppy but everyone else will be staying home and a family friend will be taking care of them. I know our cat will be happy to have the house to his self. He will probably bully the dogs and rabbit to digging a tunnel under the house . . . That is what happens when you leave cats in charge.

My daughter is also six, so I'm glad to hear she'll have a Midwestern Friend onboard. I took her skiing last night with windchills at ZERO...good lord...I'm ready for a cruise! We have been so frozen the past week I can't wait to just thaw out on this trip!

Yeah, looks like that's probably what's going to happen w/ us. I just get worried because our cat is such a cuddler & NEVER even sleeps at night by herself anywhere. She's always cuddled up to anyone she finds first on their bed:lovestruc. It's funny, wonder what they think (or if they think:confused3), when you leave them for that amount of time. I imagine it goes something like "gee, wonder if they're ever coming back?:confused3. Oh well, at least my food dish is taken care of:rotfl:."

I have a cat and live by myself so she sleeps on my bed every night. But this past year I took a new job that required me to travel almost every week for 4 nights so she got used to the pet-sitter coming by to feed her every day or every other. After a few weeks I know she could care less if I ever came home because she KNEW her food dish was always taken care of! :rotfl:

Soooo excited! I was just able to get the forecast for the day we arrive in Port Canaveral!! Which means..........it's very close to cruise time!:cloud9: And.........it showed 68 degrees for a high next Friday! Hopefully it will be the same temp or warmer at sailaway :genie:. After all the things on the evening news tonight about "unusually cold" & "record breaking lows" in the south, I was getting a little depressed that I'd be leaving New England weather to just end up in bitter cold FL.:confused3 I'll be checking the forecast tomorrow for sailaway party!:yay: 9 days til we sail off into the sunset:love: Hopefully the weather gods have mercy on us with harsh enough winters already!:thumbsup2

:woohoo:yeahhh. My brother just got back and it was in the 40's in Orlando. I will be happy for the upper sixties compared to the sinches of snow an teens I have in Indiana.

I also got a really good geal on priceline for the Country Inn and Suites. I am staying there the night before for $63 including taxes... This is over half price. I guess that means I get to buy the new purse I wanted....

I have been obsessively checking the weather - so far so good! I used to work in TV so I know at least in Cleveland that anything forecast over 48 hours is just an educated guess - but it makes me feel better to look (and see 68 degrees:goodvibes).

Bought my magnet paper today - can you say "expensive"? Used a Michaels coupon so I am going back for more today - buying 1 pack (that holds 5 sheets) at a time may take awhile but I am cheap (frugal, thrifty... those sound better).

I also got some of those packing cubes from ebags - anyone ever use them? I hope they keep me organized.

I don't use the packing bags, but I do use big ziploc bags. When you roll and "burp" them they work very much like the vacumn bags. Also, keeps things dry when accidents happen. We once left on a cruise out of Baltimore in a downpour. I watched as the baggage handler threw Kari's canvas suitcase in a puddle of water. Thank goodness I had learned to pack in plastic bags. I actually learned this from a friend who had their suitcase land in the Amazon river of all places:scared1:

I just bought a "magnetic sheet" @ Michaels that I can cut out to the size of my pics. The I print the pics on "post-it" printing paper. Then just cut the magnet sheet to what I need. One sheet made all of my magnets for last year & this year. I got the packing cubes too. I really like them. I fit all of DD's clothes in one medium sized. Minus the princess gowns.

Okay..for those of you who are experts or at least, experienced..

How many outfits do you pack for each person?

Ie: How many shorts/tops outfits?
How many dressier?

I started with my son and feel like I'm packing too much, but don't want to be left without enough things.

Is it convenient to do laundry on the ship?

Also, I feel like no matter what I do..everything always shows up wrinkled. For our dressier outfits..is it worth getting a travel iron?? Or, what do you all do for that?

We pack 2 pairs of shorts and a pair of jeans with tops, 2 cruise casual dinner wear, and our formal/semi-formal clothes. We find that so much time is spent in swimwear that for us this is just the right amount. The laundry is easy to use on board and an iron is available. I don't think you can have an iron in the room but I would love to have a travel steamer.

I have to finish filling out my MIL's on board info. Then i think i'm done.
My girls evening wear is packed (i think. I might give some of the hems of the dresses a once over).

My aunt STILL hasn't gotten hers. DCL said they shipped them to the TA at the same time as mine, but I kind of find it hard to believe. From what I've seen on the boards, previous cruisers get them shipped to them first and 1st time cruisers after. She's a first time cruiser. The TA is looking for them now. She filled out all the paperwork, but she needs the luggage tags that have her room # on them so that when we hand them to the porter at the terminal, they get to her room. The DCL CM said that she could always get them at the airport from the Disney desk but we don't get to MCO til 10:30 at night:scared1:. We leave our house at 2:30 Friday afternoon for the airport to catch a 6:50 flight (Boston traffic on a Friday afternoon is horrific). Then fly to MCO, make our way down to Budget. Long day already! The last thing we're going to want to do is find the Disney desk and deal with that:sad2:. Hopefully they can just mail her the tags ASAP if the TA can't find them. Weather is still looking good!:thumbsup2

We have been in Dec. and the water was fine. I don't think there is a problem with the weather that far south (except rain).
Castaway Cay is a different story. Water there was too cold for comfort in Dec. Of course, I live in NC- our midwestern and Canadian friends may disagree. When you live in sub-zero temperatures, Castaway Cay at 70degrees may seem like a heat wave. DH and I may be in for simply enjoying the views, atmosphere, and some land activities at CC.;)

As long as she knows her room number they most certainly will tag them at the port. My concern there is if the airline is forwarding your luggage directly or if you will be handling it prior to the port. As long as you guys are handing it off at they port she should have no problem!:)

So what happens to your bags if you do upgrade @ port? Never thought about that. Your luggage tags have your name & rm# on them. If the porter takes the bags @ the curb & you upgrade inside, how do they know to bring your bags to your new room? I'm sure they have some sort of system but I never really thought about it. Well I guess it really doesn't matter too much that my aunt didn't get her tags. Seems like they have ways of figuring it out anyway.

I'm assuming they go by the bar code information and not the actual number. But that's just an assumption. If not, I just hope whoever gets my bags appreciates all the shoes I packed for them! :rotfl:

We are finishing our packing and checking the weather. It looks like we'll have warm weather, at least to us! It's going to warm up here too. It should be 34 when we leave Milwaukee.

Rockies Lady, I told my daughter that there would be another 6 year old from the area on the cruise and she is very excited to meet your daughter.

WOW! They must've had a hard time filling our ship. Looks like EVERYONE got an upgrade! Even w/ the "kids sail free" promo? Guess this really gives some insight into the state of our economy.

Were they able to move everyone? You sure had a big crew to maneuver.

I didn't know people got the kids sail free on this cruise. I thought it was only for 3-4 night cruises or Med. hmm:confused3 That's okay because I didn't want to bring the kids on this one anyway. :rotfl: I'm happy with our upgrade from a 12 GTY to a cat 9 big porthole.

It was a special pin code... that was essentially the thing that got us to book the cruise in the first place. I got the pin code in my email and convinced my husband we couldn't pass it up!:thumbsup2

Now instead of a romantic weekend in Mexico for his 40th bday we are taking the kiddies on a cruise!

We have upgraded a couple of times at the port our room steward usually will go get your luggage and anything that is in the old room for you.

I just got a note from TA about the room change and she said to change the room number on our luggage tags Boy will that get confusing if we get an upgrade at the port!!:scared1::scared1:

The good news is if you got an upgrade and can't find your luggage, just ask a fellow DISer. :lmao: Maybe we should start a list of luggage discriptions.;)

Seriously, the porters have the current manifest and can give you a luggage tag with the correct room number. If you upgrade at the port, I use to recomend to check outside your old room number only because you luggage would most likely go there first and then get moved. You will get it faster if you check yourself sometimes.

For those of you with teens, how do you handle homework? Our school has the 9wk block system where they do a year's worth of work in one semester. I'm thinking we are going to have to get an internet package and check the assignments daily. :headache: I know DD is looking forward to that. :upsidedow

Found a swim suit, and it wasn't a terrible experience!

Now I need a sarong. Well, I don't NEED one, but I don't care for my old one either. Cost Plus won't get them again until March. I'm going to try the Hawaiian store near where I work out, just walking in there makes me feel like I've gained some Vitamin-D.

We are currently in a cat 9 (upgraded from 12) Can I request a backward move when I'm getting the upgrade free? The old saying "beggars can't be choosers" comes to mind.

I have the same problem... I have stuff spread all over the guest room, but nothing actually in a suit case.
My husband has to take the dogs to Fort Wayne tommrow and I have to work all day so I guess I will be packing when I get home.... We fly out on Friday in the afternoon, so at least I can finish in the morning. I am really trying to pack lighter but it not working...

I have my FE gifts packed but that is it. I'll be doing laundry and packing tomarrow night/Friday. When my Dad flies in Friday night it will really feel like vacation has begun.

Don't feel bad. I have not started packing for myself or the 3 kids. :rotfl: Husband is in charge of packing for himself. We don't leave til Friday afternoon so I keep thinking I have plenty of time. I am always a last minute packer! I figure how hard can it be to throw some shorts, shirts and a swimsuit (plus a few dressier items) together! I'm always running around at the last minute too! Go figure.

I'm getting there... about 75% packed. Dog gets dropped off at the "pet resort" tonight (why am I a little sad about that? I'm sure he'll have fun...)
Kids are excited because today was the last "wake up" before we are waking up to go to the airport. Tomorrow at this time we will be at Hopkins, waiting for our 9am flight!

I think I'm packed??? :lmao: Honestly, I've been doing it little by little for months now & I can't remember if I packed some things. Guess sometimes it doesn't pay to start early.;). So working all day then going to do a last minute sweep of the suitcases to make sure we're all set. Especially DS14, I packed most of his stuff but left it up to him to pack shorts, underwear, etc. Knowing him he'll completely forget the underwear:lmao:. Teenage boys, gotta love 'em! Car is picking us up for the airport tomorrow @ 2:30pm. Flight at 6:50! I can't believe it's here:worship:.
