View Full Version : Expedia and DVC pt. rental

I just went to Expedia.com and I punched in my dates for the Beach Club villas. I have been told by DVC members (that have pts. available to rent) that there was no availability. Is there some way a DVC member can use pts. through Expedia? Or does that mean that there might be availability now? Can someone help me? I want to stay at Beach Club and right now am paying close to rack rate. Thanks for any help! Sandra

It is very likely that there is no point availability. At this time, DVC members own about 40% of the BCV- so 40% of the rooms are available to reserve with points and the rest thru cash reervations.

As the sales continue, the number of rooms available for members will increase.

"...the rest through cash reservations" may be true for immediate use, but surely it can't be for reservations several months away.

For example suppose BCV is 75% sold out by Nov. If they rent 60% of it by cash now for Dec, then clearly 75% will not be available for points in Dec! It seems to me they have to hold back rooms for point reservations by new members.

While I don't know the formula used, DVD doesn't have to hold back anything for possible future reservations. Their obligation is to offer point reservations for the same percentage as has been sold.

Traditionally, DVC has declared more into inventory that has actually been sold, so they do already anticipate the needs for the sales. In that scenario, they can propbably track the inventory already booked beyond the actual sales % and balance that against the point needs of the future.

In addition, 60 days prior, all unreserved member inventory is released to CRO for cash reservations anyway.

If there are available rooms as sales increase, those rooms would be made available for point reservation, but it would be unreasonable to expect the developer to hold back more rooms than necessary when they can recoup expenses by renting those rooms.

I'm sure DVD has some formula they use to keep the inventory as fair as possible, but don't assume that they are holding back any rooms just in case the sales % increases. Until someone buys those contracts, DVC still owns the property and, by contract, can rent their inventory as desired.
