Hey, so I was wondering if there are any DISers who are into cosplay?

Cosplay stands for "Costume Play" - it's basically like dressing up for Halloween, only any time of year. You make a costume & dress up - usually at conventions or get togethers - pretending to be that character & take pictures etc. (Usually this involves anime (Japanese Cartoons) but people do this with any of their favorite characters, including those from Disney).

Anyway, it's a lot of fun & I was just wondering if there are any other fans of this hobby on these boards ^_^

I've been thinking about doing an Ursula costume. I'm planning to have 6 octopus legs and then my real legs can be the 7th & 8th. I can make shoes look sort of like joker's shoes (or elves - the kind that curl up) but I'm worried that wouldn't look right.

Anyway, I couldn't find a thread like this, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask ^_^

Hi Yuffie,
I am very new here, just joint today (had an unfortunate experience with ebay pin trader which led me to disscovering this awesome community) I have been cosplaying now for 4 years and in that time made 20+ costumes, appeared in books and magazines and done a ton of promotional work for games companies which has been such an awesome experience!!!

How long have you been doing it for?

In my collection of costumes I have done 2 disney ones to date, Ariel and Pocahontas which I both love dearly. Your Ursula costume sounds like a fantastic idea! I saw a girl doing one when I was judging at a convention end of last month. for the tenticles she made a black dress that drapped down to the floor (so you couldn't see her feet) with a hula hoop sewn into the hem. Then attached to the bottom of the dress and hoop were all the tenticles made of a wire base and covered in the same fabric as the dress and with purple undersides. It looked a bit like the version you see in voyage of the little mermaid at WDW. When I am allowed to post pics (in 7 posts time lol) I will try and find a pic of her for you she was so lovely.

Hey! :D

I've recently gotten into cosplay. There's a convention colse to me in July 2010 and I plan on going as Misa Amane from the anime and manga series Death Note. :)

Your Ursula costume sounds awesome, btw. :D

Wow, you sound amazing TiggerKez! I haven't done anything professionally with my cosplay, unfortunately, but I got into it about... 5 years ago & I've been hardcore for 3 years now. (Ironically, I was really into cosplay as a child, but I only knew it as "what you do on Halloween besides Trick-or-Treating" LOL)

My Ursula costume is on the back burner, I've decided to throw caution to the wind and work on a Raiden (Metal Gear Solid 2) cosplay next (once finals are out of the way - OT: I'm graduating in a week! Bachelor Degree in Performing Arts, yay! ^_^ ).

I'm going to go check out your gallery, I'm sure it's awesome ^_^
