We'll be travelling in March and due to the size of our twin stroller will need to travel with a roof carrier. Has anyone ever crossed the border with a carrier? What should I anticipate? Did you have any problems?
Thanks for the help.

We have crossed the border twice with a cartop carrier. No issues whatsoever. This past March there were 6 adults in the van and although the side door had to be opened so the officer could speak to everyone, he never even asked what we had in the carrier.

They may ask you what's in it and ask you to open and they may look in it. Worse case scenerio is you'd be pulled to secondary and they'd pull everything out, but that would be unusual. Usually they find something contraband to start a search. Ours is usually jammed packed and we've only been asked to open it once.

When we went on our trip in January we were asked by the boarder guard to turn off the vehicle and he wanted to look in the back of our SUV. Once he quickly glanced over our items, he asked us if we were smuggling someone in our carrier. He was a very large and gruff USA boarder guard and didn't know if he was joking or not. My DH offered to open it up to show him it was only our items for our Disney trip and he said no, it was ok and to have a good trip.
I would suggest be prepared to open it, thus have the key readily available.
Have an enjoyable trip.

they may check it out, or may not, all depends on the guards mood that day, my mother 50+ years old, had to provide receipts for everything she bought, yet us in a car, got waved through, not even stopped.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I'll have the key ready and just have to play it by ear.
Cheers!
