I have a Chev truck with a 5th wheel hitch. A 28 foot 5th wheel. Consider these as 2 parts. I thought if I put a small boat, on a trailer, behind the camper this would be illegal---3 parts.
A neighbor has a 10 foot john boat, trailer and a bow mounted electric motor, and a small 2.5hp gas outboard, all in excellent condition. He told me I could have them if I wanted them. I turned him down.
On the way home from DIS I saw basically this exact combo going southbound on I95----3 parts. I have seen As & Cs towing small boats, but again, 2 parts.
Anybody know the law.
Stumped john !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It changes from state to state it is legal in Texas but not in Florida. They call it triple tow.

I came down 10 in the Fl panhandly the other day and passing us going west was a 5th wheel with a trailer and then a boat behind that. I don't remember what kind of truck or what the other trailer was but it was a long trail of towing lol

Yes, you see people triple towing in states where it's illegal. If law enforcement decides to stop you, it's going to very expensive and time consuming to remedy. You'll probably be fined and then you'll have to separate the back trailer and figure out how to get both trailers where you are going, or back home.

This is why we have a truck camper rather than a fiver or a travel trailer. The DH wanted to be able to bring his boat when we go camping. :boat:

Just get a toy hauler and put the boat inside. :thumbsup2

That could work too, as long as the boat wasn't too big and you had two able bodied people to carry it and put it in the water.

We carry a 2 man 14' kayak in our toy hauler when we go to the beach works great.

In Michigan it is called a recreational double with a maximum length of 65'. I pulled the setup for two years, a Dodge 3500 quad cab full bed, a Carriage 36' fifth wheel and a 7 x 10 Pace cargo trailer with either our Harleys or a golf cart. I was exactly 65' in length and never got stopped in that time.

This picture is with my 7 x 12 trailer which I replaced because I was too long.

Yesterday, on my way home, I saw a Class A towing a Jeep, towing a golf cart on trailer. Is that legal? I was thinking "there is no way I would try that".

Yes, it is legal depending on the state.

Would I do it, not likely. (Just my personal opinion, please no flames!)

Can you back up, no.

Verify the laws for each state you are going to pass through.

The most important question: Is your trailer frame strong enough to be towing? Some manufacturers specifically tell you that it will void any and all frame warranties..

I found this (http://www.towingworld.com/articles/TowingLaws.htm) which should help.

WOW! Alot more states allow triples than I thought.

MH Length I presume means Motorhome :confused3
If so, there seems that there would be alot of the newer motorhome (over 40 ft) that are illegal in some states??

I'd love to see a video of someone backing that thing up!

Thanks for the matrix from bradisgoofy-----Another example of how SIMPLE is made COMPLICATED.

e.g. Triple tow by state----yes, no, yes, yes, no, it just goes on and on and on---and watch out for the asterisk (*) that is designed to nail you everytime.
