My partner just mentioned somethine about going to the Bahamas sometime ealry next year. He specifically mentioned Atlantis. Has any gay couples been there?
I was wondering how gay friendly they are there. I tried Google and couldn't
find any trip reports.
ANY information, recommendations, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
I'm just thrilled it's only a 3 hour flight from me. :)

The Bahamas are not known to be overy friendly to our folks. Just google Rosie O'Donnell - Bahamas to read a little.
That said, personally I have never really had a problem.

Actually, Nassau/Paradise Island is known for being very gay UNfriendly. The locals there protested at the port when Rosie's R Family cruise stopped there. Apparently the protestors were very hateful to people coming off the boat and into town.
In terms of personal experience, we didn't really run into any problems in Nassau when we were on the Disney cruise last year (we spent less than an hour in Nassau, though) We also took a cab over to Atlantis and walked around. We spent about $25 in the casino, went through the aquarium, and strolled around the resort. It's nice enough, I guess, though VERY expensive.
Here's the recap of our Nassau day http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29029895&postcount=1857

We didn't get off the ship when it made port at Nassau. Partly because of the experience Rob mentioned, and partly because of the experiences of other friends of ours. They were not engaging in any overtly sexual behavior (none at all) and still ran into some trouble and won't return.
The islands in general can be unfriendly, some more so than others. St. Kitt's is one of the worst.
So no, can't say as I'd deliberately go to the Bahamas for a gay friendly holiday. Go to the Keys. :goodvibes

If you are looking for an island that is very gay friendly - go to Aruba. We have been going every year for 15 years and have NEVER had a problem. In fact, you will see many other gay couples.
It is "one happy" island :)!

Any other island suggestions - specifically ones that are popular cruise destinations. I've read Jamaica and Bermuda are not gay friendly.

I found the people we interacted with in Belize and Isla Roatan (both cruise destinations) were very appropriate and made us very comfortable. This was really evident when we were SCUBA diving in Belize and our Dive Masters made us very comfortable, which is a good thing considering how dangerous SCUBA could be if you're in unfamiliar waters and have a person that is not being conscious of you as a person.

We've been to Nassau twice for the day from cruise ship and weren't really thrilled with the experience. The first time we went snorkeling on a tour and had a good time, but, the second we thought we could find something ourselves and somehow ended up at Atlantis. I think if we dock in Nassau again we'll stay on ship.

We had booked at room at the Comfort Suites (that we never saw) when we visited on the Wonder just to use the Atlantis pools. We had a great time, nothing bad at all. Afterwards they gladly took our money in the casino for a about 30 minutes before we cabbed back to the port area.
Have never stayed there. It is beautiful, but very expensive. I'm sure you'd be fine while on Atlantis grounds. They seem to like the dollar more then anything else. However, as above posters have said, the rest of the island probably isn't a great place.
The port area was a waste unless you like to shop. If I ever went back, I'd stay on the empty ship. If I was on Disney again, the most I might do is cab over to the casino for an hour since the boat doesn't have one.

If you're going to stay on the ship in Nassau, it's not going to be empty! Head on over to the DCL forum where most experienced people say they stay on the boat and recommend that others not bother with Nassau either. :rotfl2:

Thanks for all of the replies.
My partner and I don't put on any major PDA.
I'm sure we will do just fine as always. I just
wanted to get some feedback. I'm sure we won't
leave Atlantis, being that there's the waterpark, pools,
casino, and great food. :)

That's what I did while the others went ashore. I loved touring the ship and seeing the stuff they had going on.

Joey, I have a friend who is FROM the Bahamas and the stories she tells are NOT good. In terms of safety, it's worse for a man. Since meeting our friends, we have decided to NEVER visit there. Just not my idea of a good vacation, if I can't go to town and site see. :sad2:

Thank you for the feedback (from everyone).
I guess we will have to just play it safe there.
Hubby booked the trip already. Will be staying
at the Cove. We pretty much plan on pool, water park,
dinners and casino. Will be careful on the PDA.
Will be sure to post on this when I return.

Joey - I think you will be fine as long as you stay on the resort. It will be mostly Americans and European's there most likely....
Go and Enjoy! ;)

Thanks Tony. We would be staying at/on the resort. Everything that we want is there. So I'm sure it will be okay. :)

One track mind Wally!
Hey it's out third time in the bahamas and sad but true it's not the gayest place on earth but it's afordable for the holidays and you make it what you want... just do not expect gay beaches and tea partys more expect the young sex crazed red neck population on there first vacation out side the trailer park in years in town and at the bars however at atlants if your cute and in good shape the bartenders will wait on you if your average to normal
looking you may need to be a bit " hey I paid to be here to" and they kind of all go OH YA thats rite and start being atentive kinda lol but you will be fine if its just about kickin back and doing some swimming and shopping...

Hey gang, I actually just returned from my 3rd trip to Atlantis this year. My partner and I didn't have any problems at all. Each time was much fun. It's a beautiful place. I spent a lot of time at the water park. Did the Dolphin and Sea Lion functions.
Thanks again for all of the feedback.

My partner and I will be at Atlantis Jan 16-20. Any chance you guys will be there on those dates? If you have already gone, any tips?
Thanks,
