Hello my Disney friends
I need your help. My 3 yr old niece is Celiac (cannot eat anything with Gluten) She is going to WDW in 2 weeks (1st time)
We are looking for ideas for food and restaurant survival in Orlando. Any tips and ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

On this week's Dis Podcast there was a nice piece about gluten-free dining in MK. It's a decent way in to the podcast. Good luck to you!

I guess it depends on where you are staying, but if you are staying offsite then I suppose you can just hit a grocery store/health food store and get groceries. If you are staying at disney, I would suggest ordering groceries in from gardengrocer.com and look at that podcast about dining suggestions.
Good luck.

I would ask your question over on the Disabilities board. I'm sure there are folks there who can give you first hand experiences.

Hi there - my daughter and husband both have Celiac's and Disney World has been the easy place for us to vacation and eat out yet! I was advised to contant Theresa Joiner for information about how to reserve/where etc, etc. She works for Disney in their food services. She was excellent - sent us a ton of info including lists of which counter service foods and treats were gluten free. theresa.joiner@disney.com
I can't say enough about how helpful everyone is - as long as you let your table staff know they tend to bend over backwards! The chefs will generally come right to your table and discuss your options - they have often made my daughter special gluten free desserts even!
ALso - I found more info from other celiac folk on the All Ears site under dietary needs - there are even pictures of some of the meals.
Good luck and have fun! :goodvibes
PS If you have a car, you can stop at Whole Foods and stock up on snacks etc.

I 2nd what mermaidmuse said. MY SIL has celiacs and dining was so easy for her. A couple of the times the chef came to the table and chatted w/ her. At BOMA the chef took her around the entire buffet & explained each dish to her, which she said was neat as she learned so much.
She also found some of the places like Teppan Edo to have the best gluten free buns she had ever tasted. Just make sure to mention the celiacs on each of your ADR's.
So no worries, Disney will look after your niece! :thumbsup2

My Mom has Celiac, and dining was a DREAM at Disney! Just tell your server at each restaurant (you'll hear differing things about telling at reservation time), and the chef will come out and help guide you through.
She was almost in tears over how easy it was, and how delicious the food was!

Check out the information over on the DisAbilities Board. There is a lot of information on Celiac.
You can also contact specialdiets@disneyworld.com by e-mail and they can tell you what CS places are the best to go to for food.
