View Full Version : Is American Express no longer the official card of Disney World???

I know Disney has a deal in the works with another card company, but does this mean American Express is no longer going to be the official card of Disney World. Any info on this would be appreciated?

I think that will be correct. I believe the deal with AMEX ends at the end of this year, that's why they've hooked up with VISA, and they will have a Disney Rewards VISA card available around the middle of next year.

I belong to American Express Member Rewards and I noticed they took the WDW Breakfast off their reward list. I'm mad because that's the reward I was working for, 3,500 points. Now the only WDW reward is golf for 22,000 points! They still have the Disneyland Breakfast for 4,000 points.

That stinks DebbieB.:( I got 6 breakfast certificates last month, and I was hoping to get more by our November trip. I hope they still honor them. The back has an expiration of May 2003.

laurenk,

I was going by the list on their site, maybe you should verify by phone when you have enough points. It was in their printed 2002 guide.

I just got six breakfast certificates with no problem this week. They are still listed on the Membership Rewards Website.

I just checked again and it is on there under travel certificates rather than Disney rewards. Glad it's still there! Thanks for the info!

I just went looking for these, and while they show up under Travel Certificates, the link just returns an error. I called American Express and they placed the order over the phone.

So, they are still available, and she said it was good until May 2003.

Question: Are these good for Character Breakfasts... (Stupid time to ask, right after I ordered them!)

lsyorke
07-14-2002, 07:30 PM
Yes they are good for Character Breakfasts. We just booked Ohana at the Polynesion for next week. Can't wait!!!! There is a listing on the back of the certificates of all breakfasts that are included. It's extensive.

Whew! Boy was I about to feel stupid! :jester: Thanks for the quick reply! 6 Breakfast certificates should be on the way!

Does anyone know if the AMEX breakfast certificates are good at CRT? Also, can they be used for both an adult and/or children's meal?

I was also saving for the breakfast certificate. Tell me, how long does it take to come after ordering, and is it just breakfast for 1?
Thanks

So what does this mean for the Canadian Traveller?
Last visit got great perks due to AMEX but if WDW
uses Visa specifically for Disney. Will they allow us
to get a Disney Visa 'cause right now it's not available
to the Great White North!

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a bunch.

Linda,
Mine only took 7 days to arrive. They told me it would take two weeks when I ordered them, but the Amex person assured me they would arrive sooner than that and they did.
Each certificate is good for one person.

They are good at CRT,Crystal Palace, and Main Street Bakery in the Magic Kingdom. There are a total of 33 locations throughout the parks and resorts.

Hope this helps.

My plan is to use them for the adults only, since those prices are higher at character meals, and we will just pay for the kids.

Isyorke,
Thanks for letting me know. I just recently signed up for the awards program, and when I got the brochure in the mail and noticed the breakfast, I called and charged my room on the card. That gives me just enough points for 1 certificate. Oh well, it's something. I'm leaving in 6 weeks and I just got the bill, so I need to pay it this week to get the points credited. So if it comes as quickly as you say, I should be okay to get one.
Thanks again for the information.

We put our DVC purchase on the Amex during a double points time period. This was advice from our DVC Guide. So needless to say we have quite a few points!! The only problem I have had is Continental Flights that I could use the $99.00 companion ticket have always been more expensive than Delta's regular fare. I still think its a decent program. By the way the points show up faster when you call the Amex Rewards line than they do on your statement, so don't wait for the statement, just call periodically.

As I understand it the relationship between WDW and AMEX will continue until the end of the calendar year. The Disney Visa card will be a rewards card (Disney goodies if you charge enough) but probably won't be available until January.

Hey, I just found this mini-article about the Disney Visa dated 6/7/02

http://www.cardweb.com/cardtrak/news/2002/june/7a.html

Sorry Scratch it sounds like it will only be offered in the US for a while.

So what about the old Disney Credit Card/ Is that thru Banc One?

Samsma
07-16-2002, 05:46 PM
I wonder what this means for people who have put deposits on AmEx for trips after May 2003. I put a cruise deposit on AmEx three months ago for June 2003. AmEx said for on board credit and perks you had to have deposit AND final payment on AmEx. Hope Visa overlooks the deposit requirement and just goes with final payment.

I wonder if there will be an annual fee? I always refuse to pay these and only have cards that are free.

Not sure if they will have an annual fee for the Disney VISA, but I have a Bank One VISA now and I do not pay an annual fee.

Question about the breakfast rewards through Amex, Is each 3500 certificate good for one person?

Thanks

Scratch42

Thanks Danicaw.

The only reason I got the Amex was 'cause of the perks for the parks.

I wonder if you use any VISA card will they offer same sort of deal
as AMEX did?

Debating now whether to pay off my January 2003 land/cruise with
the AMEX or a VISA Card? Anyone out there know of any details.

Thanks for all your infomation and help.

Does anyone know if you can still get park passes from Mem Rewards. I am so bummed. I've been charging everything including groceries on my AMEX for the next trip. I guess I better get something ordered even if it is Breakfast Certificates.

I called the AMEX rewards 800# today and the guy told me that the only thing left under WDW was a golfing package (around 22000) points. He said the breakfast certs and the hopper passes had all expired. When did any of you order your breakfast certs?

adams66, I ordered last night

All of the Disney rewards are still showing on the website. I got my breakfast certificates last week. They are good for one year from the time I got them. Hope this helps, it sounds like there's some bad information out there.

Thanks!

Also, lsyorke-

What are they going to do with the Amex travel office at Epcot? I really like Amex more than visa, I hope they stay partners in some way.

07-18-2002, 04:32 PM
"I can't find them on the website. What are you looking under?"

Go to membership rewards, sign in if you have a login ID if not "explore the program" Then chose Disney. Its will list out all the rewards for Disney.

"What is the expiration date on your certificates? My trip is not until 7/5/03. Can they be used then? "

I was mistaken, Mine expire on May 31,2003 ( its a little less than a year from when I ordered them)

They are no longer listed on the web site. Although they are still available. I called last nite, Wed midnite. And ordered 5. So they are still available.

Good Luck

Guys, They ARE on the website. Go to the home page of AMEX, look under CARDS and pick "Membership Rewards". Then choose "Search All Exciting Rewards". Then put a check next to "Disney", with point range being "All". Then the rewards available for Disney will pop up.

Mine all have May 31, 2003 as the expiration.

:D

Isn't that too funny, but if u search only with a point option, they don't come up AND the AMEX operator told me they were no longer on the web site. Sounds like a Disney CRO to me. HA HA HA

Either way I got my 5 Yipee !!

OK thats it, Its official I am going crazy.....I swear the other day the reward would not pull the b'fast up. Now today if u choose 10,000 and under it lists 8 things. The only option the other day was Golf. Someone somewhere is reading these boards and trying to make us all crazy. And for me lately that is not a far drive, Next stop on the Monorail Crazy Town LOL

For those of you having problems, here's a link to the Disney awards from AMEX Membership Rewards: http://home3.americanexpress.com/rewards/explore/search_results.asp?page=1&search=category

You know, using 3,500 points for a breakfast certificate isn't the best use of your points. An adult character breakfast @ $17.99 comes to $21.77 with tax and tip. You're getting less than one cent per dollar when AMEX points are used that way. Much better, IMHO, to use your points for gift certificates that give you at least one cent on the dollar, and pay for Disney breakfasts and admission tickets with the money saved elsewhere.

Gillian

They are NOT the best use of points, but we decided to get some anyway. We used points for our plane tickets, we are paying for our disney hotel & cruise. We still had a zillion points (Well not quite that many!) and decided it would be a fun way to use them. We're not going to be travelling much in the next year & just decided to have 1 other thing paid for on this trip.

And they are on the website!!! :D

adams66
07-19-2002, 05:56 PM
OK- I can't get the link to work but I did speak to an AMEX operator yesterday, he told me that they are available but only for a 6 month expiration from issue. I'm with you I think they must be taking CRO's lead. LOL!;)

OK, my Breatfast certificates came today, (less than five days - Not bad!)

------------------------------------------------------------
Not necessarily the best use of points, but I think the best buy would be at the Grand Floridian:

Juice: 2.00
Main dish: Steak and eggs: $16.99
Hot Beverage: Flavoried Cappuccino: $4.00
Bakery item: Pastry Selection : $4.99

27.98 food total, and then with tax and tip: $35.59

or even better deal (if you like Japanese Breakfast)

30.98 food total, and then with tax and tip: $39.41

Those two breakfasts wouldn't be a bad deal! :)
--------------------------------------------------------

Details on certificate:

Valid through May 31, 2003.

Your breakfast feature is valid at a participating restaurant located within the WDW Resort and includes choice of:

one (1) Juice
one (1) main breakfast dish

Could be. There is nothing on them that says American Express.

This was a good use of my points for me. I've been looking for something I actually WANTED forever. We're looking forward to GF now. :)

I personally have no desire to join or send more money to connections.

They do sound like the same vouchers as connections. BUT, the amex ones are free, so even if it isn't the best use of points, it's better than paying $17.50 each ($70 for 4). 14,000 points that I won't miss vs. $70 that I will is a no brainer for us :D
