Low fares flying from Detroit Metro Airport to several destinations in this mornings paper. Orlando and Tampa are the lowest with $59 each way ($54 web fare).
I've never flown them before, but at that price I may try them. Does anyone have any recent experience flying Spirit? Didn't they used to be Valuejet? Do other airlines usually follow when another has a special?

Yes, they use to be Valujet years ago. I've flown with Spirit on several occasions. Never had a problem other than their lines at DTW are usually very long and their planes seems a little smaller (seating). We'll be using them to go to Fort Lauderdale next month.

I've never flown them but have heard good feedback from people who have. I don't think they are the same company as Valujet--I believe you are thinking of AirTran.

Northwest is matching fares on some routes. Got my tickets this morning for $109 plus taxes.

I didn't see that ad. What are the dates required for travel?

WE HAVE BOOKED W/ SPIRIT AIRLINES 3 YEARS IN A ROW!!! JUST GOT MY AIRLINE TICKETS FOR $59 EACH WAY FOR OCT. WE HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM W/ DELAYS BUT LAST YEAR (OCT) LINES AT CHECK IN AT DETROIT METRO WERE VERY LONG---JUST THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO SEPT 11 AS THE PREV YEAR, LINES WERE MANAGEABLE.

Spirit was NOT Valuejet!
We have flown Spirit a couple times and never had a bad experience. We have used NWA the last few times because I don't like Spirits flight times to MCO. 7am is just too early for our family and I don't want to leave at 4:30pm because then we waste an entire day. I know, we are picky! Anyway, give them a try. I think you will be satisfied!
