My lens just arrived today, and, so far, seems pretty sweet - seems to focus well and I did some successful low light hand held shooting around the house. One issue I did run into with my Rebel XTi is that my on camera flash will not open while this lens is on :confused3. I know there are quite a few shooters on this board using this lens, so I was wondering if anyone else had this happen? It's not a big issue as I do have a 580ex flash, but I just found it kinda wierd....

I have the Canon XSi and have used the flash with my Sigma 30mm before. Will it pop up if you hit the flash button on the side?

I haven't had a problem on my XSi. In Av, Tv and M it won't pop up automatically though (but that's the way the camera operates). Use the button on the side of the lens mount to pop it up.

A second thought: if you are shooting in an automatic mode, perhaps the camera doesn't think you need the flash since you are using a lens with a larger aperture. Were you using the kit lens before?

I shoot manual, so I always use the side button to pop the flash. When I hit the button, it makes a click sound and gives an error message. I notice you both have XSi rebels, I wonder if the body is that different on the XTi?
