Disney Cruises

I'm just curious about how many people are using the Disney cruises on DVC points. If you took (or have booked) a cruise in 2000 or 2001 please check off your circumstance. Only "took" is used in the questions to get them to fit.

Although I'm not yet a DVC member (waiting for BCV), I have a 7 day cruise booked for July '02. I think I'm going to cancel (postpone), the cruise, and use the money to buy into DVC @ BCV. I will then rebook my cruise with points.

I know the cruise isn't the most "bang for the buck" with points. But, neither is a one time, one use only expenditure that would pay for 25%-45% of my DVC cost.

We took a 4 day cruise last year, and love DCL. I'm just trying to preserve the value of my $$$. :rolleyes:

Used points for 2 adults (cat. 10) and paid cash for 2 kids.

Used points for Fall Fantasy last October - 7 day Magic and it was truely a "Magical" time! Trying BWV 12/15-21 prior to another "Magical" cruise for a family reunion.

It does seem as if people are using points to cruise. Of course, this means that the rooms at the home resort become available for DVC to rent. Maybe this is contributing to the difficulty of booking at BWV.

I broke down at my DW insistance, I have never been on a cruise so I don't know what I'm getting into, and booked a cruise but with the large number of points we choose to pay for a cruise only and use the points to extend our time at OKW. I will, of course, use the stove decoration on the trip. I don't know if this is the best use of points but I would rather stay a week or more in a 1 BdRm than use it for a short cruise.

We cruised on the 7 day Magic for Halloween in 2000 - CAT 6 on points. We are going again this Nov. CAT 5 for about same amount of points. When they run the DVC cruise fall specials, using points is a good value- keep in mind your meals are included.

Ihave BWV points too & if I don't use my 11 mo. window, I have trouble booking when I want there. I was told the since the older OKW members don't get the free park passes anymore, they are booking at BWV to try something new. MS told me this should settle out in the next year or so with WLV coming on line.
