If a member transfers points for a one time basis to another members account can they call the DVC and take them back. I am about to buy some points for a trip (I am a DVC member) I know reservations can be canceled but transfers?

I believe all transfers are a final transaction. Theoretically you could *maybe* transfer them back, but since you're only allowed 1 transfer per year, that probably wouldn't work anyway.

It's a final transaction. I've bought transfer points several times, used Paypal and it's been an easy transaction taking only minutes. I don't rent point, I prefer tansfer points that way I can make my own arrangements and changes.

Transfers, Banking, and Borrowing are final transactions.

And you are limited to one in or out a year.

I have a small contract at OKW with an Aug UY. If I purchased points for transfer from another member with a different resort and UY, do the transfer points retain their original home resort and UY or do they now become my home resort and UY? Are the transfer points bankable? If so, again, which home resort and UY? TIA for your help.

The transferred points maintain their home resort and UY. You can bank them, but you can't transfer banked or borrowed points.

Don't mind Saintstickets, he needs extra points so he can get a room for Superbowl weekend.

I assume this means that if you banked or borrowed your points, then you could only rent those points during the current UY and not transfer them to another member. Is this correct?

yes, banked/borrowed pts can be used to make a reservation that you rent out, but they cannot be transferred to another member.

Thanks chalee94. People are so helpful to us newbies trying to understand the intricacies of DVC. Therefore, I have another question.

Suppose I want to book a GV Dec 13-17, 2010. I don't have enough points on my contract even if I banked and borrowed so I find someone that would transfer me enough points to cover the trip. I would have to find someone who has a Feb UY or later where the points would be current during Dec, 2010. My 11 month window to book a Dec, 2010 reservation means I would have to wait to book until Jan 13, 2010. Since banked or borrowed points cannot be transferred, can this transfer be made? Can the other party transfer points prior to the UY for which they will be used? I must have the points in my account before my reservation would be accepted. However, if I have to wait until Feb 1st or later to receive the transfer points, then there is a slimmer chance that the dates would be available because the 11 month window has started to shrink.

Here's the other side of that question and would apply to other situations where someone "buys" transfer points. Suppose I complete the transaction to transfer points into my account and I call to make my reservations and nothing is available and I cannot change my trip dates. Am I now stuck with those transfer points I purchased? Would my only option besides going at a different time be to rent them to someone else? I can't transfer them because the transfer in to me used up my once a year option. Am I making this harder than it sounds? If the tranfer scenario above in the previous paragraph will not work or I don't want to take a chance on buying transfer points only to find out the dates are not available, then I see my only alternative is to use what points I have and make a cash reservation for the balance of the trip or to rent points for the balance of the trip.

Of course, I could always buy more points, right?! :rotfl:

Thanks all...it sure is nice to talk through the details before proceeding blind.

no. although banked/borrowed pts cannot be transferred, you may receive current year pts and then bank them. so if someone transferred you oct 2009 UY pts, you could bank them and use them in dec 2010.

yes. you would not be able to transfer them and would be "stuck" with them and have to use them or rent them. (but you would have access to the 11 month window if you buy the same home resort's pts, and you can get the pts now as stated above.)

Thanks again Charles. I didn't realize one could bank transfer points. That would make it much easier to make this reservation. I'll need to print this off and read it again to keep me straight as I'm sure I'll somehow confuse myself about all this after I've slept a night or two! :lmao: Thanks again. It sure is gracious of you veterans to walk us neophytes through the maze of DVC!!

I am trying to "purchase" points to transfer into my member account to make a May, 2010 reservation. (DVC says you can't pay for transfer points, right? wink...wink) Just when I thought I was understanding some of this, I received this email from another member that I have been discussing a point transfer with... "I called Disney earlier to confirm. No, you cannot bank points that are transferred to you". :confused3

WHAT?!?!? Someone help me...I feel like Vinnie Barbarino from "Welcome Back Kotter"...I'm so confused (I'm also showing my age! :lmao:)

Did this member get bad info from Mbr Svcs?

As far as I know, that is incorrect.

You can bank transferred points, but you can't transfer banked points.

Same here. I have no interest in renting to non owners. I will transfer to and from fellow members instead.

You CAN bank points that are transferred to you. I've done it.

One more question about a point transfer...I understand it can only be done once per year (transfer in or out)...is that a calendar year or use year?

Use Year :thumbsup2

Yes you can definitely bank points that are transferred to you but you cannot borrow them.

MS has the technical ability to reverse point transfers but the rules do not allow it (unless it was an error by MS).

Although there no “written rule” any points (which are in their original current use year) which can be used for a reservation (as original use year of by banking them by the transferee), are eligible to be transferred (as long as both parties are current with DVC) even if they are not your current use year, but you can not transfer points that are further into future use years (part of the reason they do not allow you to borrow transfer points since that would extend the transferable points another year into the future).

It is possible to do 3 transfers within 1 calendar year as long as they are all from different use years.

Hope that makes sense.
