Hi!
We'll be going with a 17mo, 8yo, & 10yo. Will the 10yo be able to order off the kids menu on ddp? She's kind of a picky eater, and we're concerned, esp. at Epcot.
Thanks,

Thanks,
Counter service will not be a problem as I had ordered a kids meal with an adult credit in the past. Table service they may or may not let you.

Ask for an adult sized portion of the kids menu. Other posters have been able to get it.
Not sure what she likes but you can almost always substitute the side for another side she would like. ex. french fries instead of mashed potatoes.

We're considering going to a couple of restaurants in WS at Epcot, and don't know that she'll eat the ethnic food.

I have a very picky eater, who will be 12 when we go back to WDW. I was wondering what the probability of being able to order him a kid's meal would be. I like what the other posters said about ordering an adult portioned size of the kid's meal--I think that would work for him. I don't know when your trip is, but if you would please post your experience, it would sure help those of us who need this information as well! Thank you!!!

Another option is to pay for the kids meal OOP if nothing appeals to them.
You could then use those Adult credits towards a 2 credit signature meal.
Or a character breakfast etc...

Tony67, I really like that idea! I'd just like some confirmation that they would allow him to do this? Alot of restaurants don't allow anyone "over the age" to order from that menu because (I'm assuming) they want to get more money from you.

We're planning our trip for the week after Thanksgiving, 2010.

robinsegg: We're going after that, unless something wonderful happens and we get to go sooner. So, let's pinky promise to pass on our experience, whichever goes first! Or, hopefully, someone else will beat us to it and help us out!!

We're going in Dec and I'm hoping they'll allow me to order DD10 a kid's meal OOP. She's very picky and many times has a very small appetite. I'll try to remember to post my experiences.

We do this every time we go to WDW and have never had a problem. My dd was 14 this year and ordered off the kids menu at Narcoossee. There was nothing she wanted there and I wasn't going to spend 2 credits. We paid OOP off the kids menu. We also shared at Le Cellier and Sci Fi. At Turf Club she ordered an appetizer, which again we paid for OOP. :goodvibes

In September my DD13 ordered off of the kids menu at Coral Reef. Actually our waitress was the one who suggested that we do it. Our dining credits worked out just fine in the end.
P.S. My DD13's meal was the same size as my DD6's meal. We did not get (or ask for) a "larger portion" but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. HTH's

Good point. I have not heard of anyone having an issue doing this but YMMV.
I assume that this is more there to keep adults from ordering kids meals.
I know this sounds rediculous, but some of the kids meals are not bad.
My sons Mahi Mahi at Coral Reef was better then the meals the 4 adults got.
In looking at other posts it seems others have done this, but you may get a waiter that pushes the issue. Since they work on tips I would assume most would not.

Anyone of any age can order off the kid's menu at at WDW TS non-buffet restaurant (at buffet restaurants, you pay by your age, regardless of what you eat). If you are on the dining plan, you will get charged an adult credit for the kid's meal, but Disney generally does not prevent adults (e.g., anyone 10 or older) from ordering off the kid's menu.

Thanks everyone! I feel good about it now. (I had toyed with the idea of him just sitting there while we ate our meals and then getting him a CS meal somewhere when we left the TS restaurant!--Doesn't sound like we'll have to do that:banana:)
Thanks again everyone, and for robinsegg's original post!

I have a DS (6) and a DS (10) we are also on the dining plan. 10 year old is picky, 6 year old isn't. Can we switch?

rbramblett: I'm no expert, but from all the posts I've read, this should not be a problem. If there are four of you at the table, and four of you on the DDP, then you will order three adult meals and one kid meal, and they will deduct from your DDP card for three adult meals and one kid meal. They do not care who eats which meal, so giving DS6 the adult meal and DS10 the kid meal should be no big deal.:thumbsup2

I don't see why not. You are entitled to an adult meal for the 10 year old & a kids meal for the 6 year old. I wouldn't think you would even have to tell the waitress...just order what the kids want and switch the plates when it arrives.

I'm so glad everybody is talking about this. I'll be at WDW in January on the DDP with a 9yo and a very picky diabetic 10yo that HAS to eat so many carbs a meal. I've been really worried about what he's going to eat if he can't eat off the kids menu. I'm certainly game for paying OOP for kids meals if they let us go that route.
I guess the big question is, do they ask kids how old they are and for my ADR's that already have my 9 and 10 year olds specified, will they look at the ressies for their ages?

I was gest. diabetic earlier this year, and I found that animal crackers/teddy grahams worked wonderfully for extra carbs! Get some snack bags and pack 1 or 2 carb selections (15 or 30 grams of carb) in each one, knowing how much is in each . . . then use to supplement!

No one has ever asked me how old my kids are. Just make sure you tell the CM how many dining credits you are using and what you want to pay for OOP when you order.

Being that your son has a special diet it should not be a problem getting him something that he likes that meets his dietary requirements. My son can not have dairy and they have always accomodated him even when it was not on the kids menu. Just make sure it is noted on all your adrs and they will send a chef to your table to help you. Most have always asked what my son would like to eat and than they have made it special for him and brought it out. Don't see why it would be any different for your son to order from the kids menu versus the adult menu and getting what he needs in his diet so long as they allow ordering off the kids menu for adults. When I have made my adrs I have always been asked for my sons age and have always had it confirmed when we checked in at the restaurant. Even when he was under three they always provided him special meals. At buffets it was free but ordering off the menu we paid for a kids meal (always at no additional charge even if it was not on the kids menu)unless he shared with me or my husband. In that case we ordered a meal that he could eat and the chefs never had a problem with it.
