I'm in the Not Cool Kid Club! Anyone else? I don't have an iPhone and sadly can't justify the monthly cost of the iPhone plan, since it's twice as much as I'm paying now for my smart phone. I do have an old iTouch to listen to the Podcast with.

I couldn't go on the 1.0 Podcast cruise because I was pregnant. Can't go on Podcast 2.0 or DAP because of the baby and we're going on a Disney Cruise in March.

To be clear, I love the Dis. Love the Podcast. Love all of the stuff that the Podcast team organizes and works super hard at. I'm just not able to participate in the nifty stuff that has been offered in the past few years. Sooo...The NCKC is where I'm at! Woohoo! :woohoo:

Yeah, I am with you! :goodvibes

The iPhone plus contract is probably a gazillion times more than the hundred dollars a year I pay for my Tracfone.

I do really enjoy listening to the podcast on my iPod. And I like watching the videos that the DisUnplugged used to post on iTunes.

Time off from work, other responsibilites, and money keep me from participating in the in-person events.

I hope more people join us in the NCKC. :grouphug:

Children are not an option for me as they are biologically impossible.

I'm not legally allowed to adopt a child in the state in which I live because of who I am.

The NCKC has many chapters. Trust me.

My iPhone with a gazillion minutes, unlimited internet and 200 or 250 texts per month runs $115.00.

It is my iPod, my cell phone, my portable internet, my handheld video game, my portable DVD player, it tells me the weather and I can get it to do 1000s of other things with free apps.

I understand that you cant attend all of the things you'd like to attend.

I would love to be able to see the Broadway shows that I want to see.

I would love to see Disneyland Paris....and well...Paris.

I would love to have a house with a laundry room, a pantry and a two car garage.

All of these things are beyond my current reach because of time, responsibilities, money etc...

As I said the NCKC has many chapters.

I don't even have an iPod :scared1: - I got an MP3 player years ago when iPods (or so I was told) were not very user friendly with PC's :sad2: I can't even use the flipping software to upload CD's onto it anymore :sad2:

Yup. Totally agree with you. Please understand, I'm not picking on you guys in anyway shape or form. I admire and love all the stuff that you do. This is just a way for those of us not able to participate in the fun stuff ya all are organizing, to kinda bond in an amusing format.

Oh..and one of the main reasons my wife and I have decided not to move to Florida to be closer to Disney, is because we're gay and she wouldn't be able to legally adopt our baby. It's not easy to do in California, even though we are legally married here, but at least it's possible. So..ya..I hear ya about the NCKC having many chapters.

At the time I moved to FL, this wasnt a concern. I wasnt in a stable relationship and I havent ever wanted to raise a kid by myself. Please dont misunderstand me....I'm saying anything negative about single parents. It would just not be something I would actively pursue by myself.

That being said....things have changed and they havent. It's something John and I have discussed, but it would involve a move out of state. This would disrupt family, friends, jobs etc. At this point, it seems that it's not in the cards and by the time FL changes it's archaic laws....we'll be too old.

I just wanted to point out that we all want something that's just out of our reach and if thats the criteria for being a part of the NCKC.......count me in.

Again...that being said.......I will quote an Edith Piaf song (which is probably as close as I will get to Paris in the near future).....

Je ne regret rein..........I have no regrets.

Not to in any way ignore the very meaningful and IMPORTANT CONTENT of this thread, :goodvibes but...

Kevin, I would pay PLENTY to hear you sing an Edith Piaf torch song... in French, spotlight, on a barstool or similar... Just saying... ;)

I'll join the NCKC too. I don't have an iphone but that's mostly because I (and don't hit me here) don't like Apple stuff. When I hear that the thing breaks with one fall and it costs $900 to replace (at least in Austrailia) I'm thinking no thanks. I have this crappy old thing that can make and receive calls (there's a novel idea for a phone!) and I've dropped it a hundred times, my son put it in a glass of water once and I dropped it into a bowl of chinese chicken noodle soup and it just keeps sending and receiving those darn calls! Who'd a thunk it??

Kevin,
For what's it's worth...I think you would make an awesome dad and any kid would be lucky to have you, it's a shame that lame laws stand in the way of a child being placed with a loving home.

Count me in to the NCKC! No PC 1.0, 2.0, DAP  OK, I do have an iPhone, but I have worked at Apple for 20 years, what do you expect ? ;)

If only...I lived closer to Florida, had no children in school, didn't have to work...the list goes on and on.

I'll be happy to commiserate with you...I'm in the NCKC for so many aspects of my life, I'm used to it! You remember that Adam Ant song Goody Two Shoes...that's me :) Had to laugh a couple of days ago when my son said to me, 'Mom, I'm a nerd.' I really wouldn't classify him that way but asked why he thought so. He told me 'Its way better to be a nerd than a cool guy!' The 8 year old perspective.

All in all, life is good, no real complaints from me. But I do wish I could meet you folks in person at some great event in the future.

I am kind in the NCKC but mostly by choice. I was on PCC1.0 and won't be on 2.0 because I am hoping to get down to WDW for the marathon in Jan 2011 so the trips are too close.

I won't get an iPhone because I don't like how closed it is as a device. This isn't meant to spark an iPhone debate, it is just what I use as important criteria in a mobile OS. For those that don't that is 100% fine with me. I haven't listened to the show yet but is sounds like project X is iPhone/iPod Touch only so unless it is made a web app or OS agnostic I am out of that by choice.

If I were still living in Tampa I would make sure to make it over for all the events like DAP and the meets but I don't. I still enjoy listening about the events and am glad they are there for the people who are attending.

Like Kevin said, there are always things we want to do but can't for whatever reason....financial, geographical, legal, etc.

I'm not in the cool kids club either. :sad1: I have to wait till I can upgrade my phone. If I did it now the iphone 3GS would cost $600.00. I am going to DAP, cruise 2.0, and the ABD trip. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: So until I can upgrade I can't pay that much for the phone.

There are always things you want that you can't/don't have - I'd love to live on the right side of the Atlantic  but I've also got so much to be thankful for that I count my blessings.

You will get to Paris I'm sure, we'll all be here waiting for you guys :grouphug:

I don't have an iPhone by choice. I heart my Blackberry Tour :lovestruc. My BF has an iPhone. Sometimes when he's driving, I'll look something up on it for him. It takes all my strength not to throw it out the window. I have average-sized fingers - leaning towards slender, in fact - but I feel like I've got huge meathooks, trying to type on that damn thing!

I'm sad I can't have Project X, but... I'll stick with my beloved Blackberry, thanks! :cool1:

:thumbsup2 I would definitely come meet you in Disneyland Paris!

I didn't go on PCC 1 and i won't go on 2 or DAP ether, due to financial restrictions and getting time off uni (plus that darn Atlantic Ocean!!! :headache:)

I don't have an iphone because it costs at least £30 a month to have them here, and I just can't afford that kind of money right now. I have an old phone which has just kept on going!

Although I do have a Podcast Cruise badge and note book given to me by Becx and Gav (because they are so lovely! :goodvibes). Plus I met my first ever member of the podcast crew a few weeks ago at the Dolewhip meet (Teresa), which was kind of like meeting a celebrity! I didn't know what to say!

So yes, I may be member of 'Not a Cool Kid Club', but I am also in the 'Counting my Blessings' club. I still get to meet amazing people, even if it only is on line!

Although I'd love an Iphone, I am really happy not to be in the expensive yearly contract club. :rotfl2:

I'm halfway in the club. I have the iPhone and can get in on Project X, but the economy + 2 kids in a private high school ($$$ and all their activities) is not letting me attend any events.

I so wish these things had been going on a couple of years ago, we went to WDW 8 times from 2005-2008, knowing that we wouldn't be able to go back for quite a while.

Sometimes I feel a little left out because I'm a Disneylander on the west coast and I have never been to WDW and probably won't for at least 3 years because it is so much more expensive than DLR for us. I have an itouch instead of an iphone. But I don't think I'll go so far as to say I'm not cool...:cool1: :lmao: I just figure all this WDW info I'm learning in the meantime will help me all the more when I finally do get to go. :lovestruc

I'm in the not cool club, but I think it's a choice I've made. Would I like to have an iphone and other really cool gadgets...you betcha. Am I willing to give up our multiple trips to WDW and other trips to be in the cool club......nope!

For us it's a choice we've made, we don't have a flat screen TV, or an iPhone, or other cool things because that would cut into our budget for vacations, etc. BUT....one day I may make a different choice. :)

AND to add my two cents, I think you (Kevin) and John would be terrific parents.

If there are many chapters of the NCKC, can I be president of the NY chapter?
;)

For those in the club, I recommend joining chat while the "CK's" are on the PCC. It's a load of fun and not overrun by the regulars. It was great during PCC 1.0!

I could never justify the "use-it-or-lose-it" cell phone plans.

Imagine buying gasoline that way..

1. You have to sign up with a supplier, say, Shell, for a fee, for 2 years.
2. If you roam out of your supplier area, gallons from a Shell station hundreds of miles away will be 3 times the price.
3. If you don't use all of your gallons by, say, the end of a 7-day period, someone will come by and drain those unused gallons from your tank. He'll then turn around and sell you a "fresh" set of gallons right then and there, which you have to buy as you're under contract.
4. If you use more than your week's worth of gallons, you can buy more, but they'll now cost 3 times the price.
5. If you don't like Shell and want to switch to Chevron, Shell will charge you an early termination fee.

Would you put up with that? Why can't you just get a bill as with a land line?

That happens again in December 2010.

I would hope that if you were interested in joing chat, that you join us every Wednesday from approximately 8:00pm EST till about 10:30pm EST.

None of us were regulars at one time. We were all new.

You become a regular by joining the conversation and participating.

This is probably the friendliest and most giving place I've experienced ANYWHERE.

Dont wait 13 months to join us.

Ah, yes. I agree. I get so annoyed when I'm too late for chat.

Allow me to rephrase:

If you're a chatter - awesome.
If you aren't a chatter yet, do it asap.
If you are or will be a chatter, and you are a NCKC, and you want a special NCKC experience, make sure not to miss when all the cool kids are away.

Thanks, Kevin. Sorry I missed chat this week.

Count me in to the NCKC. I've been there my whole life so nothing's new.....:rotfl:

I've got a double whammy:

I'm a teacher which seriously puts a damper on my travel plans and prevents me from doing PCC 1.0 AND 2.0 AND DAP.

AND

I'm married to a Sprint employee and get cell phone service on my sweet Blackberry for $10/month. Can't beat that, even with a sweet iPhone.

I'm content to lurk in the shadows and live vicariously........

I guess it is all how you look at it.

I am not a teacher so I only get 2 weeks vacation a year and with two school age children I can only take vacation during the summer and pay top dollar. I also have to pay full price for my phone/data plan. So I am jealous of you.:thumbsup2

Count me in the club also. Even though I am going on PCC 2.0, it's a year and a half to save up for it. My cell phone isn't old, but it doesn't even take pictures......call and text is all I can do...and, it's by choice. I dread the next time I have to upgrade my phone....
