For those of you who visit often or bought into DVC, what is recommended. Do you pay by credit card and incurr the 2.5% surcharge, or do you buy from the bank and pay more than the actual dollar when you buy? Trying to figure out which would save more. Keep in mind if buying into DVC (which I am kicking myself now for not sending in my papers yet since the dollar tanked) we are looking at 17K or so. With credit card you can get points/airmiles etc, but does that even out in the long run?? Too many options = more confusion, lol.

We keep a US dollar credit card and bank account. This gives us flexibility and I think minimizes the surcharges.
There is a sticky above that has a lot of discussion on this.

We have always used our credit card. It does add to the rewards, but we do it for convenience. For our DVC purchase and Annual Fees, we use our credit card.

For our trips, it is also convenient to charge to the room and pay with the credit card at the end of the stay. However, I have brought traveller's cheques before and put that towards the bill. I find having an itemized list of our purchases is great. Also, you can always ask them to pay your account in the middle of your stay if you notice a good exchange rate. ;)

But yes, we do incur the surcharge for the convenience. I suppose that's the point of the surcharge.

We have DVC and we use a US account and US Visa. Typically, the actual value of rewards works out to about 1% or sometimes 2% of what you spend. But I get more savings from the conversion fees to US dollars versus the rewards.

But you need to evaluate the rewards against the product you have to see if it makes sense.
