So, I have been working away, since the end of August on my design for the National Gingerbread Competition at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville.
This year, my piece is titled " Pear Tree Village" and is a village based on the song " The 12 Days of Christmas"
The Partridge in a Pear Tree is a gazebo....with a pear on top
2 Turtledoves is a Wedding Chapel
3 French Hens is a bakery
4 Calling Birds is a phone booth
5 Golden Rings is a jewelry store, of course!
6 Geese a Laying is a poultry shop
7 Swans a Swimming is a lake in the center of town....with 7 swans in it.
8 Maids a Milking is a Dairy Barn/Ice Cream Store...with a silo shaped like a milk bottle.
9 Ladies dancing is a Ballet School
10 Lords A Leaping is a Fitness Center
11 Piper's piping is a Pipe/Cigar Shop
12 Drummer's Drumming is a music store, in the shape of a drum.
I am busily getting all the pieces baked and decorated inside and out before assembling. I did all my sugar gum paste people first as they will last the longest and began baking gingerbread 2 weeks ago. The interior and exterior decorating will take the next few weeks and approximately 2 weeks before the Nov 16th judging I will begin assembly and the final landscape decorating.
This design is so much more complex and colorful than last year, which was some of the feedback I received from the judges. I will begin posting pictures as soon as my partner can get them loaded up on to photobucket.
