It should be noted at this point that 50% of the reviews will be of vegetarian food, as I am veggie-inclined. For those of you who are wondering, this means no meat OR fish- you'd be surprised at how many times I was asked if I eat shellfish! If I was the naughty type of vegetarian who tried to sneak in a bit of meat every now and then, why would I go for the one with eyes and claws?
Andrew is a through-and-through meat-eater, so there will be plenty of steaks and whatnot to keep you carnivores interested.
One more thing- we'll be rating our experiences using a simple star system:
*****- outstanding
****- very good indeed
***- pretty good but nothing special
**- quite poor; disappointing
*- AWFUL! NEVER AGAIN!!!!
Now we have the necessities out of the way, onto the reviews (seriously!)...

After a long (9 hours! :scared1:) but surprisingly relaxed and enjoyable flight, we arrived at MCO around 2.30pm. We were amongst the first people off the plane so we got through security very quickly. Soon enough, we were on the ME heading to CSR! After a pleasant check-in, we had a quick goosey around the room and freshened up before making our way to Epcot, which was open until 12am. Our first port of call on our great dining adventure, as the title above suggests (!), was Sunshine Seasons.
I had heard many great things about the vegetarian dishes at SS, so I was more than willing to give it a whirl. There are various different types of cuisines available here, which is nice- variety is the spice of life and all that. Andrew and I went our separate ways: he towards the giant sandwiches, me towards the Asian counter. We made our selections and then had to face the huge dilemma of what dessert to get. Seriously, there is a lot of choice here, be prepared to make some tough decisions!
What we ate:
http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss274/disney_princess_85/WDW%20food/WDW004-1.jpg
First of all, please note that in my head it was about 2am and I had barely slept in the past 36 hours, hence why I failed you guys by not getting individual photos of our food at SS. Fear not though, this is a rare occurrence! Onto the food…
Andrew: Turkey and Monterey Jack cheese on foccacia with chipotle mayonnaise and potato salad; chocolate cake; refillable soda
I must say that I was incredibly jealous of this sandwich- it looked fantastic and, according to Andrew, it tasted great too. Generously filled and (more than) generously sized (!), he did his best but- alas- he couldn’t quite finish it. Now, this boy can eat; so let this be an indication to you just how giant this giant sandwich is! I tried a bit of the potato salad and it was very tasty.
Too full from his monster sandwich, Andrew felt unable to eat his cake and put it in his bag for later. Well, later never came because the cake unfortunately met an untimely end in the bottom of the bag. :sad2: It looked pretty good though, and he did feel a sense of regret that he never got to try it.
Rating:
****
Lauren: Tofu and vegetable noodle bowl; Butterfinger cheesecake; refillable soda
This was pretty good but not really what the doctor ordered, considering how tired and drained I was feeling. In hindsight, I probably would have been better off with a sandwich (you’re mine next time, Oak grilled vegetable flatbread sandwich!!). Anyway, this was fine, it tasted fresh and they put plenty of tofu in it. The broth was pretty tasty and the vegetables were crunchy, which is how I like them. The only downside was the inclusion of celery, which I can’t stand, so I had to pick it all out.
The cheesecake was good if not a little too sweet. Andrew tried a bit and concurred that yes, it was a bit on the sickly side. It was pleasant enough though and it wasn’t too heavy, as it had a light texture.

:rotfl: Thanks for making me laugh!! A '"goosey" is a shortened version of a "goosey gander", which means to have a look around somewhere. I wasn't sure where this saying came from so I looked it up and apparently it's from an old nursery rhyme (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goosey_Goosey_Gander).

Glad to see we're going to get a vegetarians perspective. I have to caveat that with the fact I'm not a vegetarian, but some of the veggie offerings I read on the menus sound delish - shame Sunshine Seasons didn't impress tho

We woke up feeling rested and refreshed after our late night at Epcot (we managed to stay until 11pm, which was 4am for our poor body clocks!). Saturday morning and part of the afternoon was spent at Walmart, where we stocked up on supplies for the next two weeks and had fun exploring an American supermarket.
We returned to CSR (with many, MANY bags!) and headed to MK, where we had scheduled an early dinner at Cosmic Ray’s. Now, this wasn’t my first choice (I ate here last year), but Andrew was intrigued about the topping bar.
What we ate:
http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss274/disney_princess_85/WDW%20food/WDW011.jpg
Again, this is another ‘all-in-one’ shot. I think I chose to do this when I wasn’t particularly impressed with the food! Rest assured, all of our TS meals have been photographed separately.
Andrew: Chilli cheese dog with fries; no-sugar-added brownie; soda
One bite and there was no love lost between Andrew and his chilli cheese dog: the chilli was cold! I don’t know if this is normal practice at Cosmic Ray’s, but the chilli has always been hot when he has ordered this dish elsewhere. This initial disappointment led to a disappointing meal overall, as he thought the ‘dog’ was too small, plus he didn’t care for the bun (which was wholegrain). We’re all for WDW embracing healthy eating but wholegrain buns don’t complement a hot dog with chilli and cheese all over it- it’s not like the bun will suddenly make it healthy! The fries, however, he did enjoy, and he liked the novelty of the topping bar.
As for the brownie, he said it was fine but nothing remarkable.
Rating:
**
Lauren: Vegetarian burger with fries; triple chocolate cake; soda
I liked this entrée when I ordered it last year, so I figured I’d get it again this time. Big mistake! What used to be a soy burger (like a Boca/Quorn burger) was now a garden burger, which I don’t really care for- I think they’re boring and uninspired. The bun was very dry too. As you can tell, the burger was by no means a hit! The fries were good and I enjoyed the offerings at the topping bar, so all was not lost.
The chocolate cake was very rich so I couldn’t eat it all, but it was fresh and I liked the Halloween sprinkles.
Rating:
**
Although we had quite a bad experience at Cosmic Ray’s, we’ll probably end up going back one day, as we both enjoyed the topping bar and it’s one of the few places that has one. We’ll just order something different next time!

Our first venture to Pepper Market was for breakfast, before visiting HS. We had heard many things about this place, good and bad, so we went with an open mind and hoped for the best. It’s a bit of a strange set-up really: you have to wait to be seated, then your drinks order is taken and then you have to go up and order the food yourself (the drinks are brought to your table). There are several themed stations which offer different types of food for lunch/dinner, but in the morning it’s just typical breakfast fare.
What we ate:
http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss274/disney_princess_85/WDW%20food/WDW030.jpg
Andrew: The ‘All-American’ breakfast (scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage and a muffin); orange juice; coffee
When we arrived they were getting ready to finish breakfast and begin serving lunch, so Andrew was lucky enough to be given extra food by the server- just look at that plate! Much has been said about WDW bacon but Andrew liked it, as he did the rest of the meal. The only part he wasn't too keen on was the potatoes, as he thought they were a little too salty. Overall, he thought it was a good, filling way to start the day.

Lauren: Vegetable frittata with potatoes and a biscuit; orange juice; coffee
As you can see, my frittata was rather on the large side! I liked this. It was hot, fresh and packed with chunky veggies (mainly peppers and onions), with a sprinkling of cheese on top. I didn’t find the potatoes too salty but then again I’m a bit of a salt fiend. The biscuit was a bit too dense and heavy for my liking so it was given to Andrew (yes, he’s a machine!).
I must point out that I was dreading the coffee after hearing it being slammed so many times on the Dis! However, it was actually very good. Pepper Market coffee may be an exception to the rule though- they have their own little coffee bar, so it may well be different to the stuff that’s brewed elsewhere in WDW.

Breakfast at Pepper Market was good and we’d be happy to return! What about lunch/dinner though? Stay tuned to find out…

Could Hollywood & Vine be one of the most hated WDW restaurants on the Dis? Quite possibly. I ate here on a whim last year, so I only read the bad reviews when I started to plan my next trip. I had a great meal, so I couldn’t understand why the reviews were so negative. Given all the bad reviews though, I assumed it had gone downhill, so it didn’t make the final cut.
Our choice of restaurants at HS was limited, as we were booking a Fantasmic! Package. As H&V was out of the picture and we didn’t fancy using two TS credits at Brown Derby, we chose Mama Melrose. I ate here last year too and had a pleasant meal, if not unremarkable. You know what comes next- MM wasn’t available! The only restaurant we could get in (with a Fantasmic! Package) was, of course, H&V. While slightly disappointed, we were just glad that we had managed to book the package, considering so many people were having problems in doing so. Anyway, I thought, how bad can H&V be?!
What we ate:
http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss274/disney_princess_85/WDW%20food/WDW048.jpg
http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss274/disney_princess_85/WDW%20food/WDW050.jpg
Andrew: Mixed leaves, pasta salad with chicken, pasta salad with vegetables (Plate 1); mashed potato, chicken with peppers, turkey, beef, mac and cheese (Plate 2); refillable soda
Plate 1: As far as salads go, Andrew really isn’t interested, so it’s a wonder he decided to not only try the pasta salads, but the MIXED LEAVES too! All were enjoyed and he particularly liked the dressing on the mixed leaves, which I believe was balsamic vinegar.
Plate 2: Mashed potato is a staple British dish that Andrew loves, but I think he preferred the American version with the skins in. It was smooth, creamy and very tasty. The beef, as you can see, was a little fatty, but it was cooked well, as was the turkey. Not much was said about the chicken, so I’m guessing it was edible but nothing special. The mac and cheese, however, he loved! It’s much cheesier than our version over here, but it is also quite heavy, so it fills you up very quickly.

Lauren: Tomato and mozzarella salad, artichoke, olives, feta cheese and red onion salad, shredded zucchini, pine nut and redcurrant salad, Caesar salad, mixed leaves (Plate 1); Caesar salad, cornbread, mashed potato, mixed bean salad, mac and cheese, polenta (Plate 2); refillable soda
Plate 1: I love salad and the variety here was fantastic. Everything was very fresh and tasty, in particular the Caesar salad. This was a very refreshing first plate, after being out in the sweltering heat all day.
Plate 2: I tried most of these dishes last year, and I’m pleased to report that they were just as good. Cornbread is a nice change as we don’t have it over here and the mashed potato is so much better than our version! The polenta had an interesting texture, almost egg-like, but I liked it. Again, the mac and cheese was great and the mixed bean salad was very good.

Shared dessert plate: Lemon tart, chocolate mousse, cheesecake, cookie/nut bars
We were very full so we shared. The mini desserts were wonderful: the tart was suitably tangy and the cheesecake was extremely creamy with a light base. We didn’t really care for the mousse, as it was quite bitter. The cookie/nut bars were my favourite part of H&V last year and they still are! They’re chewy, chocolatey and nutty. I took one along with me to Fantasmic!, as I did last year. A new tradition perhaps?

Thanks for the review of H&V - I put it off the list for our trip because of bad reveiws, but am rethinking because of your review. I know my kids would love the characters!

Just an FYI in case you didn't know...only breakfast and lunch have characters. The dinner does not.

I felt the same way about Hollywood and Vine. I was kind of scared to try it after all the negative reviews, but am so glad I did. It does seem to be one of the most hated restaurants, and I know everyone has their own opinion, which I totally respect, but that one really does get slammed.
I love the mashed potatoes there. :goodvibes

I've only had dinner at H&V and didn't really enjoy it but I think that was because we were there right before it closed. Some of the selections were almost empty and some were dried out. We felt rushed as they were cleaning up and not refilling anything, including our drinks. I'm not sure I would return again but I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. :goodvibes

I really enjoyed the selection at H&V, I thought that whilst the meat was rather fatty, it had a good flavour about it, the chicken I had was zesty and very tender, also the mash was fantastic!

I've only had breakfast at H&V for the Playhouse Disney characters, but we LOVED it! I've never understood the hate either. The character interaction was awesome and my DH loved the food so much he was talking about it all week! Glad you enjoyed your dinner. We might try it again for lunch or dinner next year.
Glad you enjoyed it too!
I can't understand why people don't like H&V! We went in 2007 and really loved it - we had a great waitress too, who was telling us some funny anecdotes and gave us all hot chocs to go (it was a cool December evening so these were really welcome!) :goodvibes
We're not going this year, but it's on my list for next time ;)
Great update, looking forward to reading more :thumbsup2
Following two great meals, I wouldn't hesitate to go back! Our server wasn't nearly as good as yours sounds but he was ok.
Glad you enjoyed H&V. We are one of those that hate it and will never return, but different strokes for different folks. That's why everyone should try a restaurant if they have an interest in it...because what one person hates another one loves (and vice versa).
Exactly! There are plenty of people who hate Le Cellier, for example.
I'm in! We booked H&V for Fantasmic package as well and is is so nice to read a review that doesn't terrify me!!! :cool1: Can't wait to read more since we have a lot of the same reservations as you and it is so cute to hear about all the new food/how different they are over here! :goodvibes
Thanks for reading! I hope your meal at H&V goes well. :goodvibes

The bad reviews really put me off too but I'm glad we ended up there. Give it a try!

The mashed potatoes are awesome! It's a shame it's so unpopular. :sad2:

Yeah, I've been to restaurants near closing time and have had a similar experience. We went right at the start of the dinner service (at 3pm- a late lunch for us) so that's obviously advantageous.

Yeah great report Lauren. Will you continue your trip report? I can't wait what you say abut the Grand Floridian Cafe (we have been there in October and loved it!) and of course your review about Cindys Royal Table.
