We were wondering if anyone could explain why Disney won't allow you to purchase the DDP (at full price) if you booked you room on an AP rate.
It doesn't make sense to us as this will certainly lead us to explore off site dining options resulting in a loss of profit to Disney. We have purchased the dinning plan during a stay on points as we are DVC members. This would lead one to believe Disney is making a profit on the plan even if you aren't paying full price for your lodging.

I thought you could get the DDP if you have an AP. You may have spoken to a CM who does not know.

I am going to call again but the info (Allears) as I understood it does not look promising.

We have stayed on an AP room rate and had DDP. Our was booked through Walt Disney Travel Company Inc, not sure if this is something different than just booking an AP rate. Try calling them at (407) 939-7675.
I don't think you can book an AP rate and then later add the DDP to it. They need to be booked at the same time. They could cancel just the AP room and rebook with the AP and DDP.

I have booked AP rate room and added DDP 4 days before trip
I Have booked DDP and AP rate same day as a package..
I Have had CM's say I can't get AP rate and DDP..
In my experience it all depends on who you talk to
of course things change daily and maybe they have changed things again :)

I answered you on wdwmagic, but I'll answer you here, too... ;)
You absolutely can do that. It is called a passholder + dine package. We always book the AP rate and then add the DDP, thus making a ticketless package. Not sure what you read on Allears, but this most definitely can b done. I've done it about 4-5 times.

Thank you all for your answers we called two more times and the third was a charm.
I wonder how much money Disney's own employees cost them by not knowing their job.

AP holders can purchase the DDP in a ticketless package, to which they can also apply an AP discount if one is available. Note that adding DDP to an AP reservation converts the reservation from room only to a package. Therefore, some booking agents might get confused if the guests ask to add DDP to a room-only reservation, which can't be done. You need to ask for the AP room-dining PACKAGE. The Allears wording appears to be confusing as we have had several questions here about it.
