There is endless debate on these boards re: bar coding of the mugs. I wrote a letter to Disney and I just received a call from their offices from Kimberly. She told me that there have NEVER been any plans to bar code the mugs - WDW is wondering how that rumour was started, she said. They would never try to slow the guests down by trying to scan the mugs. She was clear in saying that they are tightening the policy of length-of -stay only. This was always the case (yes, I was one of the people told it was good forever - but, hey, NOTHING lasts forever, guys). The CM's have been asked to be more watchful and if someone is seen with an old mug, they are to be asked to purchase the current mug. She said that WDW is hoping that people will be honest and help them to maintain the policy. Thought I would let you all know what I was told...

In fact, aren't they in use already at Typhoon Lagoon? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

They are testing a bar code policy at the waterparks according to a newspaper article but I believe it is just rumor that Disney was going to try and expan this to the resorts.

They have had the barcode in place for quite a while at BB. We didn't go to BB on our last trip in April, so we must have been there using the barcoded mug in November. Not a new thing at all.

If they do they do, if they don't they don't! Rumor or not? Guess we will have to stay tuned for that one...

I take pretty much everything like bar codes and new princess meals at face value until I see proof.
