Welcome!! I am excited to be calling myself a Disney bride :bride: The twist, hardly anyone knows I am!!!!

So a little information to get you started!!!!

About us :

Josh and I met our first year in college. I was introduced to him during the second semester of school. He was new, having just gotten out of basic training he didn't know many people at the school. I was dating someone else at the time, so we were simply acquaintances for about a year, when things in my life started to change. I became single, and one of my friends told me to pick any of her boyfriend's friends, and she would make a date happen. We went to dinner that night......and it is all history from there!!!!!

Josh and I at military ball a few weeks after we started dating

The proposal :

Josh and I had been talking about marriage for a while when he suddenly stopped! I was a little worried, and a little suspicious with he insisted we talk about it after dinner Sunday! I had a family readiness group meeting (kinda like a support/information group for family of soldiers) on Sunday, and when I got home he was waiting to talk to me. He got down on one knee, and gave me this

The Twist :

Well we are "considering" a 2011 wedding, at least that is what we are telling people! We are going to be eloping in Disney in January; but we plan to renew our vows with our friends and family, when he returns from his deployment sometime in 2011. We are young (will be 21 and 22 when we say I do) but know we have found our happily ever after...........

If you made it through all that and are still with me PLEASE SAY HELLO!!!! Nothing is worse than thinking you are writing something no one is reading!

How we decided on a Disney Wedding :

When we decided we wanted to get married before DF left, we had talked about having my grandfather do it here at home. However things were quickly getting out of hand, people wanted this, and other thought they should be there, you know how it goes. My sister and I had already had a trip planned long before we found out DF would be deploying. Josh and I talked and prayed about it, and decided that as long as our families were ok with it, running off to Disney would be our best choice.

How we chose Shades of Green :

We are in college, and Disney weddings are expensive!!! We wanted something very small and intimate, as we would be doing the big to do later with our families. Even my sister with her DVCing ways couldn't find anything for us, then as I was lurking around the weddings board I saw someone mention Shades of Green! We have since been in contact with Bonnie at SOG, and have decided to do a 8:00AM gazebo wedding.

Congratulations! I love how you arrived at the Disney and SoG ideas! What a wonderful way to celebrate your love for each other now, and plan on having more people share your joy later when you can do more planning and coordinating. It's going to be fun to read along with your plans, especially since I'm a SoG bride too. :bride:

So the next step was to buy a dress! I knew nothing was happening until I found the dress

I tried at a local bridal shop, here were a few that didn't really get considered

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/littlebeth12088/dresses/DSC01875.jpg

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/littlebeth12088/dresses/DSC01876-1.jpg

Then I found this one, but it wasn't what I wanted; however the issue was I didn't know how to express what it was that I wanted!!! This dress seemed to be it, but they only had the sample, and wouldn't really work with me too much on the price

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/littlebeth12088/dresses/DSC01878.jpg
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/littlebeth12088/dresses/DSC01880.jpg

So I figured every girl has to go to Davids Bridal. I took my mom, my mom's bestfriend who is like a mom, my soon to be mother in law, and one of my very best friends, I tried on 2 and the BAM. My consultant Helen go what I was trying to say, even though I couldn't say it. She also told me as she was putting me into gowns, that she had a very short engagement to a Navy man, so she really got what I am doing. Once I told her I thought this one was the one, she had me sit down, she pulled my hair up, and placed the veil and a tiara in my hair, plus put a necklace on me. She really made me feel like a bride.

So here are the "not the ones"

And the dress

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/littlebeth12088/dresses/DSC01886.jpg

The dress is Ivory, I love how soft the color is. Here it is on the model (http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?langId=-1&catalogId=10051&storeId=10052&catentryId=6096897), look like a whole different dress LOL It is exactly what I was picturing, but wasn't able to express..... I love how it is short, but sweet and has detail. My mum and her bestfriend got me the veil that matches, so the only thing I am missing at this point would be shoes and a tiara if I want one. I almost bought the shoes, but they just weren't comfortable.

I have really small feet, so if anyone knows where I could get shoes let me know!!

Nitrostitch, do you have a PJ, I would love to hear more about what you are doing!!!

I haven't started a PJ...it seems like we're doing so little in the way of tradition and we aren't doing the full Disney Fairytale Wedding we just couldn't afford, so it seemed odd to do the traditional PJ.

Congratulations on finding such a beautiful dress! You look really lovely!

I spoke with Randy Chapman today...... I am really considering having him photograph our wedding, I feel like if our family can't be there we should really have great pictures to show them! Not to mention I LOVE his work that I have seen here!

Thoughts?

So I sent all my paper work into Randy Chapman yesterday! I love his work, and he seems like a really nice man, I am so excited to be working with him.
I had shown DF a few of his pictures before I sent anything in, but last night was showing him more, his comment : "you cant see their faces, whats the point of that" what I was showing him was a super pretty picture of two people kissing and the castle is between them, it was one of the brides on here, and I LOVE IT :lovestruc.

Next step is getting someone to marry us, or finding flowers.... Any thoughts?

How exciting! Everything you set up brings it so much closer don't you think?
:yay:Hooray for photography!

I've been reading PJ and it seems like both Rev. Knox and Jack Day(Dey?) have good reports.
We are using an officer from Johns squadron to be our officiant if all goes as planned. So I haven't investigated them too much, but it's a place to start.

So I really need to buckle down and hire someone to marry us :lmao: I just can't seem to do this for some reason. I think I am going to go with affordable Orlando weddings, has anyone worked with them??

Flowers: I am thinking just simple roses, but I am afraid white ones would look odd against my ivory dress? DF will be in uniform, same one as in the intro pic minus the cord (blue thing over his shoulder)

Cake: My sister really wants us to have a cake that day, I just have no idea what the heck I want to do with this, but it needs to be super small!!!

Photos: Got a bit scared this week after a thread I saw on Mr. Chapman's work, he didn't charge my card for over a week after I sent the contracts back in, but when I called his wife she said they had them and I was all set. The charges have since shown up, so I am no longer panicking about that. I hadn't planned on getting a photographer, and called him on a whim, and in the last week all the family has been saying how excited they are to see pictures, so I guess it is a good thing I did that!

Dinner that night: we got into California Grill, about an hour before Wishes. I am so excited for this to be our wedding dinner!!!

Well I did a lot of buying and paying all my vendors this weekend so the list is a lot shorter...but I still haven't decided on a veil for sure or anything with hair. I also need to send out my announcements for my reception in January...oh and I have yet to find a dress for my 2 yr old flower girl...and I think that is it but I am sure I am forgetting a few things.

Yay for another Maine bride!! :cool1: I'm assuming southern Maine, because no DISBride in her right mind would be stuck up here! lol

That dress is just gorgeous on you!! I love the look on your face when you tried it on - it was truly the one! :lovestrucBut I'm trying to picture white roses with it though, and I'm not sure about that. I think we have a floral inspiration thread hidden around here somewhere - maybe look through those and see what you come up with. :thumbsup2

I love your plans so far! Cali Grill is such a perfect place for a wedding dinner, and you'll love watching Wishes from there.

We're using Rev. Tim Herring to marry us, and it's just my fiance and I, with my best friend as our photographer (she's great!). We're currently scheduled to eat at Kona Cafe mid-afternoon (leaving time for pictures at SoG) but may change to Mangino's at SoG if it is scheduled to be open during the needed hours. For the evening, we'll be changing into park appropriate attire and heading to MVMCP, since that party was important in the start of our relationship.

My fiance is wearing his Air Force dress blues, and I made my own bouquet from pink silk roses with a few hidden Mickeys from Swarovski crystal beads from Michael's. I thought of doing a holiday-themed bouquet, but kept leaning toward the beautiful pink bouquets I saw in a lot of the inspiration photos. It seemed like I saw a lot of pink bouquets with the uniform combo, so I think that'll go together nicely (I hope).

We plan on getting a mini cake from Publix, since even fairly small cakes feed a TON of people. The mini cake should just about be the right size and is inexpensive and pretty. They make mini cakes in many of the same designs as their regular wedding cakes. http://www.publix.com/food/catalog/Bakery/WeddingSpecialOccasion/Home.do I know DFTW brides can order mini cakes that are really adorable, but I'm not sure if they'll do a cake for a SoG bride. Since we found the Publix option, I haven't checked.

Nitrostitch, you are my HERO right now with those mini cakes. My sister had mentioned getting one there but I was afraid they would be too big (grocery store cakes tend to be HUGE!) Are you getting married in the garden gazebo or inside? It sounds like we are doing things alot alike. I would love to see pictures of your dress if you feel like it :)

Oh, yay! I'm so glad I was able to help with the mini cakes. We were shocked at how big most cakes were and didn't just want to do a plain 8" round cake that would look like a birthday cake. The mini cakes were perfect for look and size. Now we just have to settle on one design... :rotfl:

We're getting married in the garden gazebo, so we're hoping that weather is cooperative for that day!

Since my fiance occasionally visits this board, I've been reluctant to post a picture of my dress, but it's a David's Bridal dress and here's a link if you're curious... http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49995489&currentIdx=7&subCategory=-49999486%7c-49998998%7c-49995489&catentryId=6096947&sort= No gloves, but I am doing the tiara. :bride:

Your dress is AMAZING!!! I am so excited for you. How are you doing your ceremony, I just feel like it will be a little awkward where we won't have guest and all that.....

Awww, thank you! I still need to get my dress bustled, and that's one of those "running out of time" things. I'm even thinking of having it bustled the whole time, since the gazebo is a hike from the buildings and the satin train is rather heavy and longer than I wanted. Since it's also very plain, I don't feel like I'd miss any pretty train detail by having it down. It depends on what the tailor can do with it. To be continued...

It may be a little weird to get married with no guests, but as Rev. Tim pointed out, it really is about the two of you and the vows you're making to each other on that day. It would be wonderful to share the day with the supportive people that love you, and you'll have that big wedding to share with everyone later on, but for now, it's all about your union with the man you love.

It has been strange not doing invitations or goodie bags or centerpieces or other things everyone else is doing for their weddings, but I definitely wouldn't have time to add all that to the list of things to do, and it does help the budget considerably. (Keeping costs down was a major consideration for us in planning to have such a tiny wedding.)

So I had sent an email to Donnakay at affordable Orlando Weddings last week on the 4th, I hadn't heard back, so I resent it with a note saying I was hoping to hear from them. Not even an hour later Rev. Jimmy called me and we started talking about what I could do to put my ceremony together :cool1:. He seems very nice, I am excited to be working with him.

Did you hire someone to marry you yet? I got married in 2003 at the Swan hotel and Rev Jack Day was FANTASTIC! Such a wonderful man! He will send you options for the ceremony and he will also help with anything you would like to include. Well DF is so busy with Army training that we aren't able to get up to see Pastor this week. He is supposed to be mailing me a letter to send in with our check soon. I am stressed that we aren't going to get all the paperwork in in time to get our license by mail! When I called the first time they told me just to get a letter on letterhead saying we had had counseling. The second time I called they said people out of state couldn't get the discount. I explained that someone had already said they could, I just didn't know when to send it. So they called me back saying I needed to go look up the statute that allowed the discount and make sure that Pastor confirms that we covered everything the state class would have and that he has the proper credentials to be doing so:lmao: This is more work than $32 is worth. But I keep thinking about how many Mickeybars that is :mickeybar........

On another note a pretty good friend of mine figured it out today... She was shocked, and was impressed that we had managed to keep it so quiet.

Lots of new updates for you all!!

We bought my wedding ring after a little issue. My DF went into Zales and asked about getting a setting I had tried on and liked, reset with clearer diamond( he had special ordered my ring in an almost colorless range) and a girl about our age flat out told him she was too busy to deal with him! When he told me, he looked so upset!:scared1: So we went in that night, and I asked and they told me the same thing, just in a nicer way. So we went right across the way to JB Robinson, and the very nice woman there helped me as I tried on almost everything in their case! We ended up buying the lower quality diamonds, but they worked with us so much, and helped me find something great, so we didn't care. I kept coming back to this, even thought it is a setting for a solitaire, it sits a little funny, but I love it. So here is what I got!

Congrats on your wedding! We are getting married on the 16th of January and then honeymooning at wdw! Where did you order the older style ear hats from? I loved that style and want to order them so we can wear them on the plane. Lol

I like both number 1 and number 4.

I like the #4 tiara too! Very pretty, and I think it will look very nice with the way you're wearing your hair.

We wore the older style ears - the bridal headband with veil and the groom's top hat. We tried on both styles, and the new "beanie" style wasn't flattering on either of us. :rotfl:

I like #4 as well. I ordered the older wedding ears as well! I like them so much better

Number 4 is definitely the most "princessly" yet still elegant. I thought #3 looked more like dress up than bridal. Number 2 is more like a headband yet still pretty, and number 1 was already sold. Personally I'm more of a headband gal, but if you're looking for princess but classy, I'd definitely go with number 4!

I found them on ebay, I looked around alot and found them with shipping for $50. I am having them shipped to my sister, who is driving down, so I don't have to squish them into my suitcase!

OK, I kept looking and found this

It is like #4 before, but a little bit smaller!!! I think it might look better, but I wish they had a buy it now, I hate the whole bidding thing:lmao:

Edit to add, I found it on the buy it now section, it was hiding! I am going to order it, as it isn't very expensive.

Thank you all so much for your help, I really like #4 as well, but thought it might be just a bit too much. I am tempted to order both though.........

Thank you so much! I'm going to look for them today. As far as Tiaras go, #4 is my favorite. I think it would look great with your chosen hairstyle. Happy planning, it's coming up so fast! :bride:

We had a great time, and Shades of Green had all sorts of beautiful places for photos. I'll have to do a mini trip report or something maybe over the Christmas weekend. Things have been extra crazy around here lately, so I haven't gotten much done on catching up with the Web.

I'll also attach the sneek peek pictures we've gotten from David and Vicki Arndt, who did our photography. They were WONDERFUL!

Oooh, how exciting! I was lucky with a good hair day that cooperated with my tiara perfectly, since I don't have a clue how to get my hair to behave on a normal day.

Here's the thread with some of the pictures so far:

Congratulations Elizabeth and Joshua.

We are going to be staying at Shades of Green 1/11/2010 to 1/15/2010. It will be our 13th time staying at SOG. The gazebo will be a beautiful spot for a wedding. Maybe we will see you walking through the resort. Let us know if you want some wedding "guests".

Just checking to make sure your wedding is at 8am on the 13th. Maybe we'll get to see you from the balcony by the lobby. Originally we had planned on Wednesday being a casual day, but we have decided to go see my aunt on Monday instead of going to the parks. So that moves Monday's plans to Tuesday which moves Tuesday's plans to Wednesday. Wednesday in now Magic Kingdom day.

We watched your whole wedding from our balcony. We were all bundled up in coats and gloves and you were in your pretty dress. We took pictures.
I had noticed a nervous man in uniform earlier when I walked through the lobby to go get donuts. I almost stopped and asked him if he was the groom. We made a comment that you walked right past our brick on the way to the gazebo. We think we saw you in line at EPCOT but did not get to say hi. We hope you had a good visit to WDW.
Let us know if you want pictures.

Elizabeth and Joshua,

Here is a link to the pictures we took of your wedding.

http://s444.photobucket.com/albums/qq162/Redwood99/SOG%20Wedding/

We looked at the pictures you posted. In the background of you under the gazebo, you can see me in my red sweatshirt standing on our balcony.

It has been fun talking about going to your wedding during our vacation. We'll think about you every time we go to Shades of Green. We hope that you get to visit SOG many times and get to celebrate your special day.

Happy Anniversary. I cannot believe that it has been a year since we were at Shades of Green. I ran across your wedding pictures the other day when looking for another picture. We are gong to be at SOG for one day next week. We were supposed to go see my aunt in Florida but she is going to WDW that day. So we are meeting her at WDW instead. It did not take much to convince us to go to WDW again. We hope that you are happy.
