Hi,
I"ve been a lurker on this board for a while. I've also been a lurker when it comes to my weight. I've been watching it (go up and down), but haven't been doing much about it. I've decided I need to get a hold on things and get serious about my weight loss and healthy lifestyle. I'm 37 years old and I've gained about 30 lbs. since I hit my 30s. I'm 5 ft. 5 in. and this morning I weighed 165.5 lbs. That's my heaviest, and bigger than I need to be by far. I'd like to lose 30 lbs. before I'm out of my 30s. I've got three years (and truthfully I'd like to lose it before I'm 38 which gives me 11 months).
I thought about writing a blog to make myself accountable for my weight loss journey. Then I decided that the safety of the Disboards was better. Afterall, anyone who loves Mickey Mouse surely won't be too critical of me, right? I've been getting up early to exercise before work, but I know I need to step it up a notch. I've been trying to watch what I eat, but I've got to do better. That's obvious after I binged on chocolate this week and spent the next day in bed with a migraine. When will I ever learn?
So, I am pledging to write in this W.I.S.H. journal every week and let the whole Disboard know how I'm doing - successes and failures included. Here goes nothing (or 30lbs.) :rotfl:

Ok, I've tried to watch what I eat this weekend and I think I've done a pretty good job. We even went out to eat last night and I got a salad. I wasn't even hungry when I was finished. I've lost 2lbs. in two days. It may be water weight, but I'll take anything at this point.
My plan is to get up and exercise in the morning. I've recorded some workout shows on the DVR and I'll do one of those. I'm going to set a goal to not eat anything past 8pm as well. Hopefully if I start with the little things they will add up to success. I know I won't lose a pound a day, but I don't want to go up at all.

Hello,
Best of luck! I've decided to start a WISH Journal myself and will be doing that in the next few minutes. I'm on Weight Watchers and have been doing really well. Congrads on ordering a salad. I know it can be hard when others are ordering fries, but you have to do what's best for you.

Thanks cclovesdis. Good luck on your journal as well.
My weight was up a little today. I'd like to blame it on the Sunday lunch that my mother-in-law cooked, but I should know my limitations.
Today I got up and did aerobics for 30 min. before getting ready for work. I had yogurt, milk, and an egg for breakfast. For lunch I had some leftovers from yesterday's lunch. I know I probably shouldn't have had the fried chicken and mashed potatoes again, but it was hard to resist and I didn't clean my plate. I brought an apple to have as a snack if I get hungry this afternoon. I haven't planned supper yet, but it may be soup.

I started this journal one week ago. I weighed this morning and was down to 164.4. That means I've lost 1.1lbs. :cool1: It's not a huge amount, but I will definitely take it!!! I'm concentrating on my food intake. That is the key for me. I like to snack and food is my friend. I'm learning to love water and eat smaller servings. It is paying off. I know that taking the weight off slowly is the way to do it and I'll have a better chance of keeping it off. I am encouraged that I had a loss this week and that will keep me going. Every success, even small ones, are an inspiration for me. I think this journal is going to be good for me as well. I know not many people are reading it, but at least it's a public forum and I feel like I am somewhat held accountable for my actions. Thanks!

It's Sunday and I my weight was down again today. I've spent the weekend keeping my two kids isolated and passing out Tamiflu. I've been too busy to have much of an appetite. I'm doing my best to keep from getting the flu myself while I try diligently to get them healthly again. No one has eaten much this weekend so af far as weight loss goes, it's been a decent weekend.

Sounds like you had a great week and are off to a great start for this week! One of my favorite things are the Crystal Light packets that you add to a 16.9 oz. water bottle. Some stores have a generic brand. I know Wal-Mart does. I also like Smart Water. It is expensive, but I do notice a taste difference.

Those flavor packets are good. I haven't bought any in a while, so thanks for the reminder. Have you started your journal yet? I'll have to go look for it.
I've started the week out pretty well. I was up at 5:30 this morning and did 30 minutes of aerobics on Wii Fit. It really felt good and was a good way to start my day.

I've been sick with a very bad sinus infection so I haven't done too much with my journal. I weighed in this morning and was down to 162.9! I can see the 150s in sight. I'm going out to eat tonight with my husband and some friends, but I've already decided not to eat the bread and pick a sensible meal. I am not going to go back to where I was!

The weight is coming off slowly, but it is coming off! I weighed this morning and was down to 161.4!!!!:cool1: For different reasons I have not been able to exercise lately, so I've been very conscious of what I eat. I was so proud of myself for getting through the weekend (eating out twice) and did not gain any weight. I'm learning how to make good decisions and changing my habits rather than being on a "diet". I used to snack all the time. I kept stashes of food in my office, at my kids' snacks. I ate because I was bored. I have trained myself not to do that anymore. I don't eat after 8pm anymore and I don't keep food at work. I have learned to LOVE frozen Yoplait Whips for a snack when I really need one. It's almost like eating ice cream. My official personal weigh-in for myself is Friday so I can't wait to see how I do. I am sooooo ready to be in the 150s and I can see it in my sights. I can do this!!

Thanks for asking! I started it a few days ago and think it's really helping make more accountable.

How do you like your Wii Fit? I've been going back and forth about asking my parents for it for Christmas. We don't have a Wii console, so I'd have to ask for that too. I mentioned the idea and they seem ok with it, but I want to know that it is worth it. Did you see the thread about the Biggest Loser Wii game? I'm tossing around that game as an option in addition to the Fit or instead of it. I'd love your opinion. Best of luck this week!

CC, I think the Wii Fit is great! There are many different exercises you can do and it makes it really fun. There are different categories - aerobics, yoga, strength, and balance. There is a new Wii Fit Plus out now that has even more. I don't have it yet, but I'd like to get it. Even if you just got a Wii console you can use the Wii Sports game that comes with it. The boxing and tennis can give you a good workout.

Thanks! I'm really thinking about asking for it for Christmas. I really want to lose these last 20 pounds. I'm also considering private training sessions at gym. The gym I belong to has really great rates for 4 1:1 sessions. Right now, I'm still in the thinking stages, but it's great to get an opinion. I didn't know that the Wii console came with a game, so that was great to hear. That might be a good starting point. Thanks again! And, good luck!

Ok, so Friday wasn't as good as today. I weighed in today at 159.3!!!!:banana::woohoo::woohoo:
My goal for this next week (Thanksgiving) is just to maintain or stay within a pound. I know I can do it!

I can't believe how well I've done through Thanksgiving! I weighed the day of and was down to 158.8! I was ecstatic! My goal was to stay within a pound of last Friday's weigh-in which was 159.3. I ate a small breakfast on Thanksgiving morning and didn't eat the rest of the day until we had our feast at 4:00. I stuffed myself with the most delicious food! When it was time for pumpkin pie I could only eat one bite. I didn't eat anything else the rest of the day. This morning I weighed in at 158.6. I actually lost .2 lb. on Thanksgiving!! But Thanksgiving is just one day. Now the hard part begins - the Christmas season. Unlike Thanksgiving where we overeat for just one meal, the Christmas season last all month and is full of parties and good food. I'm going to do my best to eat just enough and not overdo it. If I'm smart about it I know I can get to New Year's and weigh even less that I do now.

I know this isn't the most popular WISH Journal out there. I guess I'm not very exciting. However, it is helping me to stay on track because I know I have to post my weight each week and it makes me feel like I'm being held accountable, even if no one is reading.
It's Friday, my self-assigned official weigh-in day. It has been a difficult week. I've had a couple of migraines and that always makes me extremely hungry. I'm not sure why, but it does. I came in at 160.3 today. It's up a little bit, but not too much. I've just got to work a little harder, especially with the Christmas season.
Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping weight off during the holidays? How about some good recipes that won't put the weight on?

It has been a while since I posted, but I just wanted to say that I made it through Christmas without gaining weight!!!!!! I weighed in this morning at 159.8. I am just thrilled that I am not over 160. I do not ever want to see that number on the scale again. We have one more party this week and then the month of feasting is over. I will beat this!

Journals are definitely a good way to stay on track. Personally I feel more accountable when I have a public journal vs. writing something private. It looks like you're hanging in there on the journey...good for you! The holidays can be such a challenge.

I had to go to the doctor yesterday because of a sinus infection. I had been just before Christmas and the doctor could not believe that I had actually LOST 5 lbs. over Christmas. I was so proud. I still have a long way to go to get to my goal, but I know that I can do it. I'm at 157.8 and counting.
I need to get my physical activity back on track. I'm a teacher and we've been out of school for snow for 8 days straight. We had Christmas Break and then straight into snow days. It is so hard not to munch when I'm stuck in the house.
I have to keep reminding myself that "nothing tastes as good as thin feels".

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone! Yesterday was Friday and I'm down to 154.8:woohoo:
DH found a new diet he wanted to try so we started it the first of the year. He's lost 9 lbs. which is much more than I have in that amount of time. Why do men lose weight so easily? I'm thinking that it's because I was already eating well and cutting back on portion sizes. Even then, I never lose that much that fast. Oh, well, I'm still happy with my progress. :goodvibes
